  • This study is aimed to investigate the structure of world pollack markets and the position/competitiveness or Korea for WTO/NAMA Negotiation. First or all, it is clearly pointed out that many limitations and problems are inherent in FAO statistics that is widely utilized to investigate the structure of international seafood markets. Especially, it is impossible to find not only the data for Russia that is the top production and export country of pollack, but also the data for importing/exporting countries for pollack. In order to make up for these problems, the data for export and import of major countries are collected and analyzed. The results of analysis show the followings. First, it is clearly investigated that classification of fish products are different for countries. Second, it is understood the structure of international pollack market in actuality. The pollack market is segmented by frozen, fresh, dried, fillet, roe, surimi, etc. In addition, the pollack market has grown as much as 600,000 tons in amount and $1.2billion in value. Third, competitiveness of Korea in international pollack markets is measured quantitatively. It shows that Korea has low RAC index and TSI index, but high RMI index. Thus, it is identified that Korea becomes the largest pollack importing country. Fourth, the partial equilibrium analysis on pollack import market of Korea indicates that the frozen pollack has both price elasticity and substitution elasticity, while the fresh pollack has income elasticity.

  • The purpose of this study is to segment the mobile phone users based on the flow types and to understand the differences in mobile phone usage behavior between the segmented groups. The 'flow' construct, which was introduced first in marketing by Hoffman and Novak[44], has been used as an important keyword for understanding consumer behavior on the World Wide Web. In this paper, we will try to use the flow aspect for the mobile market segmentation, which is one of the most fundamental tools for developing a successful marketing strategy on the mobile phone service market. We collected survey data from consumers and analyzed the data with the SPSS 12.0 package where we did ${\chi}^2$-test, factor analysis, one-way ANOVA and cluster analysis. Main results of this study are as follow. First, the flow types of the mobile phone users were classified into five types, which are named as the 'Flow' type, 'Apathy' type, 'Anxiety' type, 'Boredom' type, 'Control' type. Second, most of the results related to the usage of mobile phone service showed statistically significant differences between flow types. These findings suggest that the mobile phone service marketers should consider the various flow types of users and work out effective market segmentation strategies based on these consumer flow types.

  • Internet users' desire to share shopping experiences has resulted in the appearance of the paradigm shift called social commerce, which combines social media with commerce. However, while foreign market realizes social commerce in a various way, current domestic social commerce market still seems to be highly filled with social shopping sites offering 50 percent discount, thus causing concerns about market distortion from a cutthroat competition. In order to overcome the limitations of social commerce remaining in the early stage, and to enhance the communication among consumers, this study conducted an empirical study on the social-commerce business models design based on context. The results of the study brought the imaginary, optimal combination model by conjoint analysis, using the segmented group through cluster analysis. To overcome the uniformity of social commerce and to enhance communication among consumers, the context-based optimal combination model should be proposed as the alternative social commerce business model in the domestic market which remains as a simple group-purchase function. Furthermore, this study will be used as an informative reference designing customer oriented service model for social commerce business.

  • This study aims to provide basic data for developing home meal replacement (HMR) products and establishing marketing strategies in Thailand. A survey was conducted targeting Thai consumers who have experience using HMR regularly. The food consumption values were used to segment the Thai consumer market, and the differences in HMR purchase behavior were analyzed according to segment. Thai consumers were divided into three types: high, medium, and low interest in food habits. The main reasons for using HMR among Thai consumers were time-saving, convenience, and cost-effectiveness, with a strong preference for products with high convenience. Among the HMR selection attributes, items such as quality, expiration date, hygiene, safety, taste, nutrition, and freshness are generally important factors for consumers. Among the HMR selection attributes, the items that require improvement first were identified most frequently in the high-interest food lifestyle group and include quality, quantity, additives, ingredients, expiration date, and nutrients. This study is significant because it was conducted targeting the Thai HMR market, where research has been limited, and it revealed the characteristics of segmented markets by reflecting the food consumption value characteristics of Thai consumers. The characteristics of each market segment can be used to develop HMR and marketing strategies that fit the market.

  • The optional market segmentation pricing policy for rooms of hotels are investigated under the assumption of a linear demand function, and for four different situations: (1) single price market, (2) optimal segmentation of the unused capacity of a single-price-maeket, (3) optimal segmantation for all rooms, and (4) opimal segmentation for infiltration from higher priced to adjacent lower priced segments. The purpose of tis study is th show that with proper pricing policy, it would be possible to increase profits considerably. Such a profit increase might be achived by market segmentation coupled with product differentiation, where the different market segments are identified, sperated, and in each segment a different price per room is called for. The different prices are determined based on the specific price elasticity typical for each market segment and the relavant costs. The pricing model implied in this study is based on basic economic pricing theory and optimization techniques. While somewhat complex in its mathmatical solution, it can be easily programmed for use by practitioners, avoiding the need to cope with the technical aspects of the solution. In section II-1, the optimal single-market Single-price policy is evaluated. The optimal strategy under the constraint that only the previously unutilized rooms are segmented is analysed in section II-2, while the optimal strategy without this constraint is determined in section II-3. In section II-4, the optimal market-segmentation pricing policy is derived for the case in which market seperation is allowed for all the rooms under the assumption of custtomer infiltration from each market segment to the adjacent lower priced segment Finally, some considerations relating to the practicality of the model as a decision support tool and the requirements for its implementation are discussed in section III.

  • The definition of the product market in a supplier's point of view can cause various problems in the market activities of companies because specific situations are excluded and the consideration for discontinuity is lacking by identifying segmented markets with processes, raw materials, the similarity of product functions and so forth. Furthermore, as this definition is static and general, it is difficult to express and predict the dynamic market changes. Meanwhile, customer-oriented market segment can be obtained by grouping substitutable products and related customers in the situation pursuing specific benefits. This definition of the product market enables us to find threats and opportunities emerging in markets and promotes effective performance assessments and resource allocation. The purpose of this paper is suggesting a framework to select data mining techniques proper for the customer data characteristics to identify customer oriented product market.

  • Much of the dual labor markets literature is devoted to exploring the reasons as th why the markets are segmented along the lines where the observed wage differentials are not a result of underlying skill differentials . ; and why otherwise comparable workers different the duration of their job tenure and incidence of unemployment. the logic of competitive economics denies the possibility of equally skilled workers being treated differently in labor markets. The model presented in this paper shows that workers could be segregated quite simply due to the structure of information and job-match quality, even though they are the same in terms of productivity. In general, the model predicts that observability of a worker's productivity and the extent of match specificity are key features of labor market segmentation. An important implication is that the negative from the past labor market experienes, sometimes called as hysteresis effect, helps to restrict mobility of workers among different sectors and results in perpetuation of unemployment in the secondary sector. The model also provides an explanation of the efficient wage scheme in the primary sector.
