  • By employing the vinylite and neoprene latex corrosion technique, the ramification and arrangement of A. renalis were observed in fifty adult dogs (100 kidneys). Obtained results were as follows: 1. In the dog a single renal artery arosed on each side from abdominal aorta in 99% and double renal arteries in 1%, a single bifurcated into the ramus dorsalis and ramps ventralis from which 2-6 segmental arteries originated. 2. The dorsal ventral planes of the kidney were divided separately into 3-6 vascular segments by the segmental artery into the parenchyma. Of them four segments were mostly frequent (in 73% of right kidney and 72% of left). 3. The ramifying method of the segmental artery from the ramus dorsalis et ventralis was divided 3 types and 12 kinds. 4. In 30 of 100 kidneys, either dorsal or ventral plane of a kidney was supplied from interlobar or segmental arteries belonging to the opposite ramps. In 29 of them, the dorsal plane was supplied from the ventral ramus. 5. Six right and 11 left kidneys had a common segment in the Extremitas cranialis of the kidney.

  • This paper presents a design of a 2-phase segmental stator type 4/3 switched reluctance motor (SRM) for air-blower application. The air-blower requires only one direction rotation, high rotor speed without torque dead-zone. In order to satisfy the requirements of the load, the rotor of the 4/3 proposed SRM is designed with wider rotor pole arc and non-uniform air-gap is applied on the rotor shape. With a special rotor structure, the motor generates a wider positive torque region and has no torque dead-zone. The stator of the proposed SRM is constructed with two segmental C-cores, and there are no magnetic connections between 2 C-cores. The flux follows in a short closed loop in each C-core and has no reversal flux in the stator. The static and dynamic characteristics of the proposed motor are analyzed by the finite element method (FEA) and Matlab-Simulink, respectively. In order to verify the design, a prototype of the proposed motor has manufactured for laboratory test. The performance of the proposed motor is verified by the simulation and experimental results.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the seismic behavior of precast concrete segmental bridge piers with shear resistance connecting structure. A model of precast concrete segmental bridge columns with shear resistance connecting structure was tested under a constant axial load and a cyclically reversed horizontal load. A computer program, RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. The proposed numerical method for the seismic behavior of precast concrete segmental bridge piers with shear resistance connecting structure is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the performance of hollow precast segmental PSC bridge columns. The proposed system can reduce work at a construction site and makes construction periods shorter. Shortened construction times, in turn, lead to important safety and economic advantages when traffic disruption or rerouting is necessary. Two hollow precast segmental PSC bridge columns were tested under a constant axial load and a quasistatic, cyclically reversed horizontal load. A computer program, RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures, was used. The proposed numerical method gives a realistic prediction of performance throughout the loading cycles for several test specimens investigated.

  • In this paper, a novel 12/8 segmental rotor type switched reluctance motor (SRM) is proposed. Different from conventional structures, the proposed rotor consists of a series of discrete segments, and the stator is constructed from two types of stator poles: exciting and auxiliary poles. Moreover, in this structure short flux paths are taken and no flux reverse exists in the stator. While the auxiliary poles are not wound by the windings, which only provide the flux return path. Compared with conventional 12/8 SRM, the proposed structure increases the electrical utilization of the machine and decreases the core losses, which may lead to high efficiency. To verify the proposed structure, finite element method (FEM) is employed to get static and dynamic characteristics. Finally, a prototype of the proposed motor is tested for characteristics comparisons.

  • Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the midterm clinical outcomes after modified high ligation and segmental stripping of small saphenous vein (SSV) varicosities. Methods: Between January 2010 and March 2013, 62 patients (69 legs) with isolated primary small saphenous varicose veins were enrolled in this study. The outcomes measured were reflux in the remaining distal SSV, the recurrence of varicose veins, the improvement of preoperative symptoms, and the rate of postoperative complications. Results: No major complications occurred. No instances of the recurrence of varicose veins at previous stripping sites were noted. Three legs (4.3%) showed reflux in the remaining distal small saphenous veins. The preoperative symptoms were found to have improved in 96.4% of the cases. Conclusion: In the absence of flush ligation of the saphenopopliteal junction, modified high ligation and segmental stripping of small saphenous vein varicosities with preoperative duplex marking is an effective treatment method for reducing postoperative complications and the recurrence of SSV incompetence.

  • The medical bed developed in this study is an electrically driven segmental keyboard. First describe the instrument of the segmental bed specially designed for pressure ulcer prevention, then the motor control system and pressure ulcer prevention operation of the bed. The main factor of pressure ulcer generation is displayed as body pressure x time, and when the keyboard falls, the body pressure becomes zero, and the pressure becomes higher than the threshold even if the body pressure is above the threshold, the pressure control algorithm has been developed. Therefore, using the proposed pressure control method, it has no particular ulcer occurred theoretically.

  • Two patients with chronic Budd-Chiari syndrome resulting from segmental obstruction of the inferior vena cava underwent operation. There were 1 man and 1 woman. The obstructed segment was directly visualized by a transthoracic, transdiaphragmatic, retroperitoneal approach. In these two cases, severe segmental obstruction of the inferior vena cava was observed just above the right hepatic vein. These patients underwent successful retrohepatic cavoatrial bypass with a polytetrafloroethylene [PTFE] graft [ 16mm plain and 16mm ringed graft ]. There were no operative mortality and postoperative complication. These patients have been followed up for 6months and 36months without evidence of re-obstruction. When there is a severe stricture of the IVC with hepatic veins draining freely into the obstructed segment of the IVC, a dorsal cavoatrial bypass with a PTFE graft, preferably ringed, is the method of choice.

  • The newly proposed Precast Segmental Mettled (PSM), which makes use of precast elements for election, is relatively new, efficient and fast mettled for the construction of prestressed box girder bridges. A precast segment of 25m long pretensioned in the fabrication yard is transported by a special trailer and a launching truss to its final position. The segments are then connected in the site by post-tensioning to make a continuous prestressed concrete box girder bridges. The purpose of this parer is to analyze and evaluate the design of precast prestressed concrete box girder bridges. The detailed analyses including time-dependent behavior of PSM bridges are conducted. The major results and findings, which have been obtained from finite element analysis of PSM bridge, are discussed in this paper and these results will be a good base for the design and analysis of a new precast bridges.

  • This paper presents the results of stability analyses on soil-reinforced segmental retaining walls in a tiered arrangement. As-built design sections of four different walls were analyzed within the context of the limit equilibrium-based current design guidelines. The appropriateness of the original designs were then evaluated. Slope stability analyses against the compound failure mode, which Is frequently Ignored during design, were additionally peformed based on the method recommended by FHWA design guideline. The results indicate that the as-built designs of most of the walls examined do not meet the minimum factors of safety for the external and internal stabilities, and for the compound failure mode. The implications of the findings from this study are discussed.
