In order to develop a safe seeding technology for low-density transplantation, we analyzed the changes in seeding growth according to different seeding rates and seeding days. We detected changes in leaf number and shoot diameter on the 10th seeding day, and in plant height on the 20th seeding day according to seeding rate. The increase in shoot and leaf number, and shoot diameter per seeding day decreased with anincrease in seeding rate. On seeding day 20, the reductions in shoot and root dry weights according to seeding rate was lower compared with those recorded at seeding day 10. Shoot dry weight was significantly related to root dry weight, plant height, and shoot diameter. With an increase in seeding rate, seeding health decreased and there was an increase in the rate of seeding health per seeding day decreased. For low-density transplantation, the optimal number of seeds required for transplanting 3-5 plants per hill is 11,000, which is estimated to be approximately 280-300 g of seeds for 22 g brown rice. Furthermore, the appropriate number of seeding days is estimated to be 13 to 16 days, which corresponds to a small reduction in seeding health.

This experiment was carried out to determine the effects of different seeding rates of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) and cutting frequency on the dry matter yield botanical composition of pasture mixtures in first harvest year. The experimental design was a split-plot design with three replication. The main plots were two seeding rates of Italian ryegrass at 0.3 and 1.0kg per 10a and the sub-plots were 3, 4, and 5 cutting frequency. The experiment was undertaken over a period 12 months from September 1981 to August 1982. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The different seeding rates of Italian ryegrass had no effect on total day matter yield. 2. Over the experimental period, the total dry matter yield of pasture mixtures was increased with increasing the cutting frequency, but there was no significant. 3. It was found that dry matter yield of weeds clearly decreased with the high seeding rate of Italian ryegrass over the experimental period. 4. The high seeding rate of Italian ryegrass showed the trend toward the high yield of Italian ryegrass, and the low yield of orchardgrass and ladino clover. 5. At the early stage of the experiment, the botanical compositions of orchardgrass and ladino clover were decreased with the high seeding rate of Italian ryegrass. But at the final stage they were not influenced by the seeding rates of Italian ryegrass. From the above results it is suggested that the high seeding rate of Italian ryegrass give a good effect on the early forage yield and weed control, and the high cutting frequency maintain desirable botancial composition of orchardgrass and ladino clover in the pasture mixtures with Italian ryegrass.
This study was carried out to develop a vacuum nozzle seeder for the automation of large seeds sowing of fruit vegetables and rootstocks. Moreover, the seeding efficiency was examined to find the optimum operating condition considering high precision seeding. The important operating factors for high seeding rate were typically nozzle diameter and absorbing vacuum pressure. The optimum nozzle diameters were found 1.5, 1.5 and 2.0 mm for Chambak, Tuktozwa and Hukjong while the optimum vacuum pressures were 8.0㎪, 10.6㎪ and 5.3㎪, respectively. Under the optimum operating condition, the results indicated that the maximum seeding rates were 97.6%, 98.8% and 97.6% respectively for Chambak Tuktozwa and Hukjong. The vibrating acceleration of the hopper did not make any significant effects on the seeding rate when the vacuum pressure reached 8.0㎪ and the sowing rate became higher with lighter seed. As the seed became heavier, the larger diameter of nozzle was recommended 1.5mm of the nozzle diameter was found to be applied for the experimental seeds. The vacuum pressure was also found 8.0㎪ - 13.3㎪ at that time.
Four introduced forage rape cultivars 'Akela', 'Ramon', 'Sparta', and 'Velox' and a leading rapeseed cultivar Hall-ayuchae were seeded on 1 October 1994 on 20-cm rows at seeding rates of 3, 5, 7, 10, 13, and IS kg/ha to select the best adapted forage rape cultivars and to determine the optimum seeding rate in the Cheju area. Days to flowering of each cultivar was not significantly affected by seeding rate. Average plant height increased from 151 to 164 cm as seeding rate increased from 3 to 10 kg/ha and then decreased to 156 cm at 15 kg/ha. Stem diameter linearly decreased with increasing seeding rate. The optimum seeding rate for the greatest dry matter and protein yields of five cultivars ranged from 10.7 to 11.8 and 10.8 to 14.4 kg/ha, respectively. Dry matter yields of five cultivars ranged from 7.72 and 22.01 Mg/ha. Sparta produced the greatest dry matter yield, followed by Akela, Ramon, Hallayuchae, and Velox. Crude protein yields of five cultivars ranged from 0.29 to 1.08 Mg/ha. Sparta produced the greatest crude protein yield, followed by Akela, Ramon, Velox, and Hallayuchae. As seeding rate increased, crude protein content linearly increased but crude fiber content linearly decreased. The forage cultivars had higher crude protein and lower crude fiber than the oilseed cultivar Hallayuchae. Our results demonstrate that Sparta was the best adapted cultivar to Cheju area and the optimum seeding rate for Sparta was about 10 kg/ha.

This experiment was conducted to establish the cultural method of triticale(Triticum Secalotriticum Saratoviense Meister) as a whole crop silage by evaluating the effect of seeding date and nitrogen fertilization rate on forage yields and feeding value. Heading date, flowering date, and the dough stage of development came significantly earlier as triticale was seeded earlier. Soilage, dry matter yields and percent dry matter significantly varied with seeding dates and crude ash, NFE and TDN. However, TDN yield was significantly reduced by delayed seeding. Macromineral contents were not affected by seeding date. Soilage, dry matter yield, and percent dry matter significantly increased as nitrogen fertilization rate increased. The contents of crude protein, crude fat, crude ash, NFE, TDN and TDN yield also significantly increased. In contrast, crude fiber content of triticale decreased with increasing N fertilization rate.

The objective of this study was to select a model showing high-levels of interpretability which is high in R-squared value in terms of predicting the yield in the mixed pasture using the factors of fertilization, seeding rate and years after pasture establishment in steps, as well as the climate as a basic factor. The processes of constructing the yield prediction model for the mixed pasture were performed in the sequence of data collection (forage and climatic data), preparation, analysis, and model construction. Through this process, six models were constructed after considering climatic variables, fertilization management, seeding rates, and periods after pasture establishment years in steps, thereafter the optimum model was selected through considering the coincidence of the models to the forage production theories. As a result, Model VI (R squared = 53.8%) including climatic variables, fertilization amount, seeding rates, and periods after pasture establishment was considered as the optimum yield prediction model for mixed pastures in South Korea. The interpretability of independent variables in the model were decreased in the sequence of climatic variables(24.5%), fertilization amount(17.8%), seeding rates(10.7%), and periods after pasture establishment(0.8%). However, it is necessary to investigate the reasons of positive correlation between dry matter yield and days of summer depression (DSD) by considering cultivated locations and using other cumulative temperature related variables instead of DSD. Meanwhile the another research about the optimum levels of fertilization amounts and seeding rates is required using the quadratic term due to the certain value-centered distribution of these two variables.

The object of this experiment was to suggest the optimum utilization upon rye and hairy vetch crops in Daejeon area. The field trials were conducted from 2002 to 2004 at Chungnam National University in order to evaluate the dry matter yield and quality of rye, hairy vetch, and rye+hairy vetch mixtures. The experiment was designed with split plots (main plot : seeding rate as rye mono culture, hairy vetch monoculture, rye 80%+hairy vetch 20%, rye 60%+hairy vetch 40%, and sub plot : 4 cutting stages as boot, heading, anthesis, milk). The average DM yield for 2 years had a difference on seeding rate and harvesting stages. The DM yield of rye monoculture was higher than those of the other seeding rates. There were significant increases in advanced stages in all treatments. In chemical composition, they also had a difference on seeding rates and growth stages. Hairy vetch monoculture was higher in crude protein (CP) and dry matter digestibility (DMD), but lower in fibrous compound than those of the other seeding rates (p<0.01). The crude protein dry matter (CPDM) and digestible dry matter yield was higher in rye 80%+hairy vetch 20% mixture when it was harvested at anthesis to milk stages. The results of this experiment indicated that when it was harvested at anthesis to the milk stages, rye 80%+hairy vetch 20% mixture was more effective in enhancing the DM yield and forage quality in Daejeon area.
The effects of seeding method and optimum time for freezing embryos according to the developmental stages on embryo survival rates after rapid freezing were determined using the FDA-test. The summarized results are as follows : 1. In the rapid freezing of embryos, the sucrose added medium together with Co-seeding or non-seeding showed the FDA scores of 4.67 and 4.20, respectively, but, raffinose addition obtained FDA scores of 4.27 and 3.97. 2. The developmental stage of embryos at freezing was most critical on the survival of embryos after thawing. Higher FDA scores were obtained in the order of blastocyst stage(4.94), morula stage(3.82) and ealy stage(2.65) in sucrose added medium. The same trend was observed in the raffinose added medium with an order or 4.91, 4.47 and 2.32. 3. Microscopic study of embryo before freezing and post-thawing indicated that the embryo showed shrinkage within 5 minutes after the embryo was transfer to the freezing medium. When thawed embryo was tranfered to the dilution medium, swelling of the embryo was observed and there after it reshrank indicating the removal of cryoprotectant from the embryo. The size of the embryo recovered to the original state when it was moved into a PBS-solution.
Purpose: Peritoneal seeding of gastric cancer is known to have a poor prognosis. With the diagnosis of peritoneal seeding, there is no effective treatment modality. Gastrectomy with chemotherapy or primary chemotherapy is basically one of major options for this condition. This study was conducted to compare the clinical outcomes of these treatments and to identify the better way to improve the prognosis of patients with peritoneal seeding. Materials and Methods: Between 2001 and 2007, gastric cancer patients with peritoneal seeding by preoperative or intraoperative diagnosis were reviewed retrospectively. The enrolled patients were divided as primary gastrectomy and primary chemotherapy group. Clinicopathologic characteristics and clinical outcomes of groups were analyzed and compared. Results: Fifty-four patients were enrolled. 21 patients belonged to the group of primary gastrectomy and 33 patients were to the primary chemotherapy group. Among 33 patients of the primary chemotherapy group, 17 patients were received only chemotherapy and 16 patients were received gastrectomy due to the good responses of primary chemotherapy. The 3 years survival rates were 14% in primary gastrectomy group, 55% in patients who received gastrectomy after primary chemotherapy, and 0% in patients with primary chemotherapy only. Conclusions: Although this study had many limitations, some valuable information was produced. In terms of survival benefits for the gastric cancer patients with peritoneal seeding, primary gastrectomy and additional gastrectomy after primary chemotherapy revealed the better clinical outcomes. But, prospective randomized clinical study and multi-center study should be performed to decide proper treatment for gastric cancer patients with peritoneal seeding.

The objective of this study is to obtain the basic data for investigating the effects of organic reserves on winter survival or regrowth yield. Forage rape (Brassica napus L.) was sown by three seeding densities of 5, 15 and 25cm interval among plants on Sep. 1, 1994. Field-grown plants were sampled on the before wintering (Dec. 4) and on the wintering period (Jan. 16) to analyze the nitrogen and non-structural cahohydrate reserves. The rate of winter survival and regrowth yield were also measured in the spring of next year. The dry matter yields from the plots of 5, 15 and 25cm seeding interval were 1,270, 1.01 9 and 1,062 kg/lOa respectively, on the before wintering. The similar pattern wa5 observed in the crude protein yields affected by seeding density. On the before wintering, both of nitrogen and starch contents per plant significantly increased as the seeding density was lowered. Starch content was relatively higher than that of nitrogen in all plots. On the wintering period, the contents of nitrogen reserves were 6.5, 41.2 and 121.7 mglplant, those of starch reserves were 1.0, 5.4 and 185.1 mg/plant, respectively, in the plots of 5, 15 and 25cm seeding interval. Nitrogen reserves on the wintering period increased while starch reserves highly decreased in all plots comparing to the before wintering. 'lhe rates of winter survival were 10.2, 20.6 and 37.1%, and regrowth yields were 76, 96 and 178 kgD.M/ IOa, respectively, in the plots of 5, 15 and 25cm seeding interval. These results cleariy showed that seeding density have a close influence on the level of nitrogen and non-structurd cahohydrate reserves, and that the rate of winter survival and regrowth yield were controlled by reserves level on the wintering period.
