고추씨를 첨가한 청경채 백김치의 저장 중 품질 특성 (Quality properties of Pak-choi Baikkimchi with Red Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) Seed during Storage)

  • To develop a variety of salted vegetables, this study investigated the quality properties and sensory characteristics of pak-choi Baikkimchi with 0, 1, 3, 5 and 7% (w/w) red pepper seed during 50 days at $10^{\circ}C$. The pH of pak-choi Baikkimchi decreased little for the first days but decreased significantly after day 20. The larger amount of the red pepper seed kept pH the less affected. The total acidity of pak-choi Baikkimchi increased within 20 days. Lactic acid bacteria count, pak-choi Baikkimchi with 0% red pepper seed decreased after 30 days' increase, while pak-choi Baikkimchi with 3% and 5% red pepper decreased significantly after 20 days' increase. Hunter's color L value increased during storage but a and b value decreased. Pak-choi Baikkimchi with 0%, 5% and 7% red pepper seed on day 10, pak-choi Baikkimchi with 1% 3% red pepper seed on day 20. Flavor preference was higher on day 20 of storage. In taste analysis, pak-choi Baikkimchi with 3% and 7% red pepper seed higher preference on day 10 and with 5% on day 30. Appearance preference was higher for pak-choi Baikkimchi with 0% and 3% red pepper seed on day 10 and with the others on day 20. Texture preference decreased as the storage time. Overall preference of pak-choi Baikkimchi with 0%, 1% and 7% were higher on day 10, pak-choi Baikkimchi with 3% and 5% red pepper seed were higher on day 20. In conclusion, the quality properties and sensory characteristics of pak-choi Baikkimchi were optimal on day 20 of storage and 3% red pepper seed.

유색벼의 품종별 종자 비중, 발아 특성 및 기계이앙 육묘시 적정 파종량 (Seed Gravity, Germination, and Optimum Seeding Rate for Machine Transplanting in Colored Rice Varieties)

  • 최근 소비자들의 건강에 대한 관심이 증가함에 따라 건강기능성 성분이 다량 함유 되어 있는 유색벼 품종의 안전 육묘를 위한 종자의 발아특성, 적정 침종기간 및 적정 파종량을 구명하기 위한 시험결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 현미색이 흑색인 조생흑찰 및 신명흑찰은 비중이 1.0이하의 물에 뜨는 종자가 85.7~86.3%로 대부분을 차지하였고, 비중이 1.06이상 충실한 종자 비율은 1.0~1.3%로 다른 흑미에 비해 상대적으로 낮았다. 한편 신토흑미, 흑진주, 흑설, 흑남, 흑광은 비중이 1.0이하가 15.3~43.7%, 1.0~1.06이 24.6~39.4%, 1.0이상이 25.5~55.7%로 다양한 무게의 종자가 분포해 있었다. 그러나 적미인 홍진주, 적진주, 건강홍미는 일반벼인 일미벼와 같이 충실한 종자인 1.06이상의 비율이 84.0~86.6%로 높았고, 반면 비중이 1.0~1.06은 2.5~4.1%, 비중이 1.0이하의 물에 뜨는 종자의 비율은 9.3~12.1%로 낮았다. 2. 흑미는 일반적으로 물온도에 관계없이 발아율이 적미보다 낮았고 발아속도가 느렸으며 평균발아일수도 길었고 수분흡수율도 낮았다. 그 결과 80%이상 발아하기 까지 침종기간이 적미나 일반벼 보다 2~4일 가량 더 결렸다. 이것은 흑미는 비중이 1.0이하의 가벼운 종자가 적미보다 훨씬 높았기 때문이다. 3. 상자육묘시 흑미의 출아율은 10일묘에서 75.2~82.2%, 30일묘에서 85.3~90.9%로 적미보다 10일묘에서는 4.5~8.0%, 30일묘에서는 0~3.3% 낮았는데 이것은 미출아율 종자가 많았기 때문이었다. 4. 기계이앙 육묘시 유색벼의 안전 육묘를 위한 적정 파종량은 관행 일미벼 어린모 및 중묘의 상자당 성묘개체수를 기준으로 흑미의 경우 어린모는 200~220g, 중묘는 110~130g이었고 적미는 일반벼와 같이 어린모 220g, 중묘 130g이었다.

남부지역에서의 양파 육묘실태 (Raising Seeding Status of Onion under Different District in Southern Part of Korea)

  • This study inverstigates growing seedling of onion for 91 farmhouses at Muan, Hampyeong and Sinan which are major areas of production from Jan. to Apr., 1994 to enhance the research effect of onion and then the following results are obtained. Over 60% of the farmhouses have cultured onion continuously over 11years. Early mature variety cultured is over 9 varieties and among them Kinkyu variety is cultured most frequently. Late mature variety is over 13 and Changyongdaego, Bonganwhang and Chunjudaego varieties are cultured most. Most of the farmhouses used seeds less than 6 dl at small area less than $40m^2$ and especially in the case of early variety ,they purchased it at seed stores with 15,000-20,000 won/dl and sowed them with broadcasting method. Amount of fertilizer level of onion seed is ranged from nonfertilizer level to $16.8g/m^ and most of the farmhouses employ molding after seeding with straw and compost and they did not use thinning. Irrigation is performed by 1-4 times before sprouting of onion seed and most of the farmhouses transplant long nursery plant over 46 days hand weeding is used.

Estimation of Plant Seed Dispersal through Artificial Soil Movement in Incheon Urban Area

  • In this study, soil seed and bud bank analysis were performed to abbess the mass of potential vegetation in soils less than 1 year old after covered and estimate the amount of seed bank transport through construction in urban area. The ratio of exotic species number to total species number in study sites and the landfill control site was 0.29 and 0.39, respectively. All plots pooled, mean species number and total mean seedling density per $\m^2$ in the top 10 cm of soil was 11$\pm$0 (average$\pm$S.E.) and 8037$\pm$221.Total plant seeds by artificial soil trasnsfer were estimated to be 53 thousand million $m^{-2}yr^{-1}$ in 10 cm soil depth. It reveals that soil transfer accelerates seeds and vegetation movement and makes urban vegetation mixed and common.

연초 버어리종의 자연교잡율과 종자생산에 관련된 몇가지 요인 (Some Management Practices Affecting Outcrossing and Seed Production in Burley Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.))

  • In this study effects of isolation distance, transplanting time of maternal plants, and bagging of flower head with the gauze-cloth bag on the outcrossing of burley tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) were investigated. Also the effect of fertilizer level and control of the number of capsules per plant on seed production and quality were examined. A male sterile line. produced 0.3 to 3.8 capsules Per plant when it was Planted with normally flowering tobacco with the average outcrossing of 7.2 plants, ranging from 2 to 18 out of 20 plants. With the farther the isolation distance between maternal plants and pollen donor plant, the lower the outcrossing occurred. Outcrossing occurred even at the isolation distance of 312 m. When the maternal plants were transplanted 35 days after transplanting the pollen donor ones, the outcrossed plants were not decreased significantly. The bagging of the flower head with the gauze-cloth bas (#0.9∼ 1.0 mm) decreased the outcrossed plants significantly, but couldn't prevent the outcrossing completely. The seed amount per plant was higher in the highly fertilized cultivation. The number of seed capsules per plant affected significantly on seed yield and quality. When the seed capsules was controlled by 30 or 50 capsules per plant, the weight of 1,000 seeds and germination rate were higher than those with 70 or 90 capsules per plant. 삼씨유와 달맞이유의 급여가 계란 내 감마지방산 축적에 미치는 영향 (Effects of feeding evening primrose oil and hemp seed oil on the deposition of gamma fatty acid in eggs)

  • Hemp seed oil and evening primrose oil were incorporated into the diets of laying hens for 5 weeks and the level of gamma fatty acid in the eggs that the treated hens laid was then evaluated. Hens were fed corn-soybean based diets that contained 5% tallow, 5% corn oil (CO), 5% hemp seed oil (HSO), or 5% evening primrose oil (EPO). The hemp seed oil and evening primrose oil influenced the amount of gamma linolenic acid found in the eggs through blood. The level of gamma linolenic acid in the plasma was significantly higher in hens that received the HSO and EPO diets than in those that received the tallow and CO diets. The HSO and EPO diets led to a 1.09% and 4.87% increase in egg gamma linolenic acids, respectively, when compared with eggs produced by hens treated with tallow and CO. Taken together, these data demonstrate that healthy eggs with increased gamma linolenic acids can be generated by minor diet modifications when hemp seed oil or evening primrose oil is included in the hen diet.

Pseudomonas sp. EP-3 rhamnolipid 에 의한 진딧물 살충성 생산을 위한 유자씨앗 부산물의 재활용 (Reuse of Yuza Seed By-product for Production of Aphicidal Rhamnolipid by Pseudomonas sp. EP-3)

  • BACKGROUND: Yuza seed by-product has been produced in a large amount from the agricultural farms in the southern area of Korea. It has been mostly abandoned after commercial process for the production of juice, jam and tea. The study on the reuse of the yuza seed by-product has received much attention as a bio-resource material for the production of active compound in agriculture. METHODS AND RESULTS: Insecticidal rhamnolipid-producing Pseudomonas sp. EP-3 was grown in mineral salt media with the yuza seed by-product at 2, 20, 50 and 100 g/L. The growth of EP-3 was accompanied by a increase in insecticidal activity against green peach aphid. The highest insecticidal activity was observed when EP-3 was grown in the medium containing 50 g/L of the seed sample, producing approximately 996 mg/L of rhamnolipid at 96 h. Palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid and linoleic acid were determined as the major fatty acids of the seed sample. The EP-3 cultures grown on the fatty acid mixture extracted from the seed sample showed a aphid mortality similar to that of cultures grown on the seed sample. The EP-3 cultures grown on 50 g/L of the seed sample showed aphid mortality more than 90% under greenhouse conditions. CONCLUSION: This study suggested that the yuza seed by-product may be used as a renewable material for microbial production of rhamnolipid against green peach aphid.

Soybean Seeds Damaged by Riptortus Clavatus (Thunberg) Reduce Seed Vigor and Quality of Bean Sprout Produce

  • Riptortus clavatus, one of the many insects in major crops, damages pods and seeds, which reduces seed vigor and viability in soybeans. This study was conducted to examine the effect of diversely damaged seeds by R. clavatus on seed germination and seedling emergence and to determine the association of damaged seed with quality and yield of soybean sprouts. All seeds damaged by R. clavatus significantly (P<0.05) reduced seed vigor as measured by the rates of seed germination, germination speed, and seedling emergence. Mean seed germination rate of non-damaged seeds in sprout-soybean varieties was 97.8%, whereas the rates of seeds damaged at different levels, 31-50% and 51-80%, were 23.0 and 5.4%, respectively. The rates of seedling rot and abnormal, incomplete germination significantly (P<0.05) increased as the amount of seeds damaged by R. clavatus increased to 5, 10 and 15% against the total seeds for sprout production. Yield of soybean sprouts from seeds damaged at different levels decreased up to 13% as compared to that in normal seeds. In customer preferences on soybean sprout produce, 84% of customers participated in survey preferred to purchase sprouts from seeds with 5% of damaged seeds, but sprouts produced from seeds with 15% of damaged seeds were intended to purchase only by 22% of the customers. Areas of the seed damaged by R. clavatus were readily infected by pathogens as the seed germinated, resulted in deteriorated quality and reduced yield of sprout produce.

참깨의 품질평가 현황과 전망 (Current Status and Prospects of Quality Evaluation in Sesame)

  • Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is probably the most ancient oilseed crop known in the world. Sesame seed is known for its high nutritional value and for having oil (51%) and protein (20%) content. The fatty acid composition of sesame oil is palmitic acid (7.8%), stearic acid (3.6%), oleic acid (45.3%), and linoleic acid (37.7%). Sesame oil is characterized by a very high oxidative stability compared with other vegetable oils. Two lignan-type compounds, sesamin and sesamolin, are the major constituents of sesame oil unsaponifiables. Sesamol (a sesamolin derivative) can be present in sesame seeds and oils in very small amount. Other lignans and sesamol are also present in sesame seeds and oils in very small amount as aglycones. Lipid oxidation activity was significantly lower in the sesamolin-fed rats, which suggests that sesamolin and its metabolites contribute to the antioxidative properties of sesame seeds and oil and support that sesame lignans reduce susceptibility to oxidative stress. Sesaminols strongly inhibit lipid peroxidation related to their ability to scavenge free radical. The sesame seed lignan act synergistically with vitamin I in rats fed a low $\alpha$-tocopherol diet and cause a marked increase in a u-tocopherol concentration in the blood and tissue of rats fed an $\alpha$-tocopherol containing diet with sesame seed or its lignan. The authors are reviewed and discussed for present status and prospects of quality evaluation and researched in sesame seeds to provide and refers the condensed informations on their quality.

대추씨(Zizyphus jujuba Seed)의 무기질, 구성 총 아미노산, 유리 아미노산 및 지질 구성 지방산조성에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Compositions of Mineral Components, Total Amino Acid, Free Amino Acid and Fatty Acid of Zizyphus jujuba Seed)

  • Chemical components of the physiological activity substance in Zizyphus jujuba seed were analyzed for the use as an functional processed products. The proximate compositions of Zizyphus jujuba seed were carbohydrate 89.40%, moisture 8.23%, crude protein 1.22%, crude fat 0.65% and crude ash 0.50%, respectively. the richest mineral contained in Zizyphus jujuba seed was Mg(198.3mg/100g), followed by Mn(113.0mg/100g), K(100.2mg/100g), Ca(25.3mg/100g), P(25.6mg/100g_, Fe(23.5mg/100g), Zn(18.7mg/100g), Cu(7.4mg/100g) and Na(5.3mg/100g). Total amino acid contents of Zizyphys jujuba seed were 1103.12mg/100g, and the major amino acids were proline(235.17mg%), aspartic acid(175.941mg%), gltamic acid(101.46mg%), leucine(50.27mg%), serine(47.71mg%), aspartic acid(47.27mg%), glycine(41.60mg%) and lysine (33.78mg%), respectively. The amount of free amino acids in the protein of Zizyphus jujuba seed were 178.62 mg/100g, and the major free amino acids were proline(121.30mg%), alanine(6.01mg%), valine(2.63mg%) and arginine(2.04mg%), respectively. The compositions of major total fatty acid in the lipid Zizyphus jujuba seed were C18:2(n5c) 28.72%, C18:1(n9t) 23.76%, C18:1(n9c) 13.45%, C16:0 13.45% and C20:5(n3) 1.77% in order, respectively.
