Objective: To investigate the appropriate position for abdominal drawing-in maneuver (ADIM) exercise by rehabilitative ultrasound image. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Twenty-eight young adults with no history of low back pain participated in the study. Three positions compared were crook lying position with hip $60^{\circ}$ flexion, standing position with the feet hip width apart and knees straight, and saddle standing positionunsupported with the knees $20^{\circ}$ flexed. Once in the appropriate position, the subjects were verbally cued to draw in their abdominal wall, with the intention of pulling their navel inward toward their lower back. The thickness of each transversus abdominis (TrA), internal oblique (IO), and external oblique (EO) muscles were measured via ultrasound and recorded at the end of inspiration. Results: When compared to the TrA thickness of rest, the TrA thickness was significantly increased in all three positions (crook lying, standing, and saddle standing) during the ADIM (p<0.05). IO thickness was significantly greater in standing and saddle standing than in crook lying (p<0.05). EO thickness was constant in all the three positions. Conclusions: The present study suggests that standing and saddle standing positions could be recommended for the ADIM to maximize recruitment of the TrA and IO activation. Specifically, the saddle standing position with knees flexed to $20^{\circ}$ was observed to increase the TrA activation more than the standing position. These findings should be considered when core stability exercises such as the ADIM are conducted.
We report a method for optical monitoring of tumors in an animal model using optical coherence tomography (OCT). In a spectral domain OCT system, a superluminescent diode light source with a full width of 66 nm at half maximum and peak wavelength of 950 nm was used to take images having an axial resolution of 6.8 ${\mu}m$. Cancer cells of PC-3 were cultured and inoculated into the hypodermis of auricle tissues in BALB/c nude mice. We observed tumor formation and growth at the injection region of cancer cells in vivo and obtained the images of tumor mass center and sparse circumferences. On the $5^{th}$ day from an inoculation of cancer cells, histological images of the tumor region using cross-sectional slicing and dye staining of specimens were taken in order to confirm the correlation with the high resolution OCT images. The OCT image of tumor mass compared with normal tissues was analyzed using its A-scan data so as to obtain a tissue attenuation rate which increases according to tumor growth.
Purpose: Growing evidence indicates that adolescents from multicultural families are more vulnerable to drug use than those from non-multicultural families. This study aimed to compare the factors associated with the habitual drug use among adolescents from multicultural and non-multicultural families. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design was employed. Data were obtained from the 14~15th (2018~2019) Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey. Overall, 91,443 multicultural (n=1,725) and non-multicultural adolescents (n=89,718) were included. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, univariate analysis, and logistic regression analysis. Results: The multicultural adolescents engaged in more habitual drug use than did non-multicultural adolescents. In both groups, those who currently drank, experienced violent victimization, had sexual experiences, and did not live with their family were at greater risk of engaging in habitual drug use. The odds ratios of these factors were higher in multicultural adolescents than in non-multicultural adolescents. In non-multicultural adolescents, those who were boys, had experienced depression and suicidal ideation, perceived their body image as normal, overweight, or obese, and had poor subjective health status were at greater risk of engaging in habitual drug use. Conclusion: These results highlight the need to develop customized strategies for adolescents from both multicultural and non-multicultural families to reduce and prevent their habitual drug use.

In this paper, we propose a micro vibro tomography(MVT) method, that can be used to visualize two-dimensional cross-sectional images and micro-vibration tomographic images in real time in a non-contact and non-destructive manner. The proposed method is based on the optical coherence tomography(OCT) technique, with an additionally customized image processing algorithm. The proposed method can detect the micro-motions or vibrations in sample structures by measuring the phase shift variations in the sample structures. In this study, we show the potential capabilities of the proposed MVT system for measuring the micro-vibrations generated when sound waves in a frequency range of 2~5 kHz are applied to an $80-{\mu}m$ thick latex phantom, which mimics the changes in physical structure of the human tympanic membrane while hearing. Additionally, three-dimensional volumetric images of the MVT method were recorded to observe the surface morphological changes in the surface of the phantom sample which mimics the human tympanic membrane while hearing.
In this study, forming of carbon composite parts was performed using an injection/compression molding process. An impregnation of matrix is determined by ability of wet and flow rate between the matrix and reinforcement. The flow rate of matrix passing through the reinforcements is a function of permeability of reinforcement, a viscosity of matrix and pressure gradient on molding, and the viscosity of the matrix depends on the mold temperature, molding pressure and shear strain of matrix. Therefore, compression molding experiment was conducted using a heating mold in order to confirm the possibility of matrix impregnation. The impregnation of the matrix through the porosities between the woven yarns was confirmed by the cross-sectional SEM image of compression molded parts. An injection molding process was also performed at a short cycle time, high molding pressure and low mold temperature than those of compression experiment conditions. Deterioration of impregnation on the surface of molded parts were caused by these injection conditions and it could be the reason of decreasing the maximum tensile strength. In order to improve impregnation of matrix on the surface, injection/compression molding and insert-over molding were applied. As a result of applying injection/compression molding and insert-over molding, it was shown that the improvement of impregnation on the surface and the maximum tensile strength was increased about 2.8 times than the virgin matrix.
Objective: Mirror therapy is one of the promising methods suggested for the upper limb rehabilitation of stroke patients. While mirror therapy was presented to be effective in improving motor function of stroke patients, problems were raised as preceding studies had various methods in applying mirror therapy. Some studies even reported no effect in mirror therapy. Our supposition for the reason of such problems was a decrease of attention on the illusive image during mirror therapy of stroke patients, and we aimed to observe this. Design: A cross-sectional preliminary study. Methods: Three hemiplegic acute patients were recruited for the traditional mirror therapy. It lasted for 30 minutes, and 12 different tasks were asked to perform. All procedures were video-recorded, and Observer XT was used to analyse mirror-gazing time, gaze-distracted time, preparation time, frequency of mirror gazing, frequency of distraction, frequency of preparation for treatment. Results: Subjects spent an average of 4-5 minutes having instructions about the mirror therapy intervention (preparation duration), an average of 11 minutes watching the mirror during therapy (mirror-gazing duration), and the rest of 14-15 minutes looking around the environment (gaze-distracted duration). During the mirror therapy, the number of distracted moments (frequency of distraction) was eight times more than focusing on the mirror (frequency of mirror gazing). Conclusions: Once the patient looks at the mirror, it only lasts about 5 seconds on average. Thus, we confirmed that patients could not concentrate on the illusion during the session and therefore it may have affected the effectiveness of the therapy.

Purpose: This cross-sectional study evaluated and categorized the tomographic sagittal root position (SRP) of the maxillary anterior teeth in a Brazilian population. Materials and Methods: Cone-beam computed tomographic scans of 420 maxillary anterior teeth of 70 patients (35 men and 35 women, mean age 25.2±5.9 years) were evaluated. The SRP was classified as class I, II, III, or IV. In class I, the root is positioned against the buccal cortical plate; in class II, the root is centered in the middle of the alveolar housing; in class III, the root is positioned against the palatal cortical plate; and in class IV, at least two-thirds of the root engage both the buccal and palatal cortical plates. Results: In total, 274 teeth (65.2%) were class I, 39 (9.3%) were class II, 3 (0.7%) were class III, and 104 (24.8%) were class IV. The frequency distribution over the teeth groups was different from the overall analysis. Important differences were found in the frequencies of classes I, II, and IV compared to other populations. Sex was not associated with the SRP classes (P=0.307). Age distribution was significantly different over the classes (P=0.004). Conclusion: The findings of this study on the distribution of SRP classes among the Brazilian population compared to other populations demonstrate that the SRP should be analyzed on a case-by-case basis for an accurate treatment plan in the maxillary anterior area.

Purpose: This study evaluated the distance from the posterior root apices to the maxillary sinus floor (MSF) and the frequency of roots touching or protruding through the MSF using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: This study included 100 subjects divided into different vertical and anteroposterior skeletal growth patterns. On CBCT images, the distance from the posterior root apices to MSF was measured and the frequency of roots touching or protruding through the MSF was evaluated using NNT software (version 5.3.0.0; ImageWorks, Elmsford, NY, USA). Results: No statistically significant differences were found in the distance from the posterior root apices to the MSF among vertical skeletal groups (P>0.05). The palatal roots of the first molar and the palatal, mesio-buccal and disto-buccal roots of the second molars had significantly less distance from MSF in skeletal class II than in class III (P<0.05). The high-angle group had the highest frequencies of roots touching or protruding into the maxillary sinus (49.8%); the lowest proportion of these roots was found in skeletal class III (28.3%) and the highest proportion in class II (50.3%). Males had shorter distances from the posterior root apices to the MSF and higher frequencies of roots protruding through or touching the MSF than females. Conclusion: Anteroposterior skeletal growth patterns and sex affected the distances from the maxillary posterior roots to the MSF. The frequency of roots protruding into or touching the sinus was affected by both vertical and anteroposterior skeletal groups and sex. These findings have implications for dental practice.
Ultrafast ultrasound imaging has been applied to various imaging approaches, including shear wave elastography, ultrafast Doppler, and super-resolution imaging. However, these methods are still challenging in real-time implementation for three Dimension (3D) or portable applications because of their massive data rate required. In this paper, we proposed an adaptive quantization method that effectively reduces the data rate of large Radio Frequency (RF) data. In soft tissue, ultrasound backscatter signals require a high dynamic range, and thus typical quantization used in the current systems uses the quantization level of 10 bits to 14 bits. To alleviate the quantization level to expand the application of ultrafast ultrasound imaging, this study proposed a depth-sectional quantization approach that reduces the quantization errors. For quantitative evaluation, Field II simulations, phantom experiments, and in vivo imaging were conducted and CNR, spatial resolution, and SSIM values were compared with the proposed method and fixed quantization method. We demonstrated that our proposed method is capable of effectively reducing the quantization level down to 3-bit while minimizing the image quality degradation.
Laboratory-scale hydraulic fracturing experiments were conducted on granite specimens at various viscosities and injection rates of the fracturing fluid. A series of cross-sectional computed tomography (CT) images of fractured specimens was obtained via a three-dimensional X-ray CT imaging method. Pixel-level fracture segmentation of the CT images was conducted using a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based Nested U-Net model structure. Compared with traditional image processing methods, the CNN-based model showed a better performance in the extraction of thin and complex fractures. These extracted fractures extracted were reconstructed in three dimensions and morphologically analyzed based on their fracture volume, aperture, tortuosity, and surface roughness. The fracture volume and aperture increased with the increase in viscosity of the fracturing fluid, while the tortuosity and roughness of the fracture surface decreased. The findings also confirmed the anisotropic tortuosity and roughness of the fracture surface. In this study, a CNN-based model was used to perform accurate fracture segmentation, and quantitative analysis of hydraulic stimulated fractures was conducted successfully.
