Discrete Optimal Design of Composite Rotor Blade Cross-Section (복합재 로터 블레이드 단면 이산최적설계)

  • In this paper, the optimal design of composite rotor blade cross-section is performed using a genetic algorithm. Skin thickness, torsion box thickness and skin lay-up angle are adopted as discrete design variables. The position and width of a torsion box are considered as continuous variables. An object function of optimal design is to minimize the mass of a rotor blade, and constraints are failure index, center mass, natural frequency and blade minimum mass per unit length. Finally, design variables such as the thickness and lay-up angles of a skin, and the thickness, position and width of a torsion box are determined by using an in-house program developed for the optimal design of rotor blade cross-section.

  • This paper describes the collapse characteristics of the rectangular tube under eccentric compressive load. Local buckling stress and maximum crippling load are investigated. A thin-walled tube under load is controlled by local buckling or yielding of material according to the ratio of thickness to width (t/b) of the cross section, and subsequent collapse of the section. The relationship can be divided into three regions : elastic , post-buckling and crippling . the load-displacement relationship is theoretically presented in each region by introducing the stress distribution of the cross section in the loading process. And the maximum load carrying capacity is derived in the closed form as a function of normal stress on the flange and web.

  • This paper considers the optimum design of flexbeam cross-sections for a full-scale bearingless helicopter rotor, using an efficient hybrid optimization algorithm based on particle swarm optimization, and an improved genetic algorithm, with an effective constraint handling scheme for constrained nonlinear optimization. The basic operators of the genetic algorithm, of crossover and mutation, are revisited, and a new rank-based multi-parent crossover operator is utilized. The rank-based crossover operator simultaneously enhances both the local, and the global exploration. The benchmark results demonstrate remarkable improvements, in terms of efficiency and robustness, as compared to other state-of-the-art algorithms. The developed algorithm is adopted for two baseline flexbeam section designs, and optimum cross-section configurations are obtained with less function evaluations, and less computation time.

  • The neutron induced nuclear data for Mo-95, Tc-99, Ru-101 and Rh-103 was calculated and evaluated in the fast energy region. The energy dependent optical model potential parameters were extracted based on the recent experimental data and applied up to 20 MeV. The s-wave strength function was calculated from the parameters. Spherical optical model, statistical model in equilibrium energy, multistep direct and multistep compound model in pre-equilibrium energy and direct capture model were used in the calculation. The theoretically calculated cross sections were compared with the experimental data and the evaluated files The model- calculated total and capture cross sections were in good agreement with the reference experimental data. The direct capture contribution improved the capture cross sections in pre- equilibrium region. The evaluated cross section results were compiled to ENDF-6 format and will improve the ENDF/B-Vl.

  • In this paper, optimal design of composite rotor blade cross-section to consider manufacturability was performed. Skin thickness, torsion box thickness and skin lay-up angle were adopted as discrete design variables and The position and width of a torsion box were considered as continuous variables. An object function of optimal design is to minimize the mass of a rotor blade, and various constraints such as failure index, center mass, shear center, natural frequency and blade minimum mass per unit length were adopted. Finally, design variables such as the thickness and lay-up angles of a skin, and the thickness, position and width of a torsion box were determined by using an in-house program developed for the optimal design of rotor blade cross-section.

  • Urban construction has numerous difficulties due to ground weakness and various complaints from third party, so it is not economically efficient and constructability is not favorable. Therefore, underground, which has good ground conditions, was used for construction field and facilities such as stations, and they are scaled up to enhance accommodation of facility limitation and function of stations. Large section tunnel station construction has numerous risk factors such as work boundary of excavation equipment, a relaxation of stress concentration, a safety plan of tunnel stability, and so on. Therefore, by using large section tunnel station stability analysis considering construction step, we expect to analyze the latent problem during construction, and to stabilize a future project plan of a large section structure design by using an auxiliary method and a support design.

Flowering Process and Pollination Mechanism of Genus Tilia in Korea (한국산 피나무속 식물의 개화와정과 수분기작)

  • An anthecological study of Tilia in Korea was undertaken for six native and one introduced species. Flowers are protoandrous with anther and stigma opening during the day-time in section(sect) Anastraea and the night-time in sect Astrophilyra. Nectar production was coincided with anther and stigma opening. It is revealed that the primary role of floral bracts was attracting pollinators especially in sect Astrophilyra. The peak of stamen and stigma function, and the production of nectar and odor were closely related with pollinator attraction. Forthy-three species of insects in 30 families were identified for the pollination studies; bees were the most commonly observed visitors in sect Anastraea, while moths were the primary visitors in sect Astrophilyra. Pollination study indicate that it is section specific. But within a section, pollination is not species specific thus interspecific hybridization occurs.

New N-way Hybrid Power Combiner to Improve the Graceful Degradation Performance

  • In this paper, a new N-way hybrid power combiner for improving the graceful degradation performance has been proposed. The proposed combiner has been configured with two dummy transmission lines per each section, where each dummy transmission line has a different characteristic impedance, of the standard combiner. Under this proposed configuration, a detailed theoretical analysis has been performed to show the general function of a power combiner. When any M amplifiers among N identical amplifiers are suffering the failure mode in a power combining circuit or system, the graceful degradation performance has been improved due to the separation of a transmission line and an internal resistor in every failed section from the proposed combiner by simultaneously operating two shorting devices. Simulation results for all the items which can be measured from all the items which can be measured from the proposed combiner with an eight-way configuration have been presented.

Simple equations for the calculation of the temperature within the cross-section of slim floor beams under ISO Fire

  • The calculation of fire resistance for a composite structural element comprises the calculation of the temperature within its cross-section and of the load bearing capacity, considering the evolution of the steel and concrete mechanical properties, function of the temperature. The paper proposes a method to calculate the bending capacity under ISO fire, for Slim Floor systems using asymmetric steel beams, with a wider lower flange or a narrow upper flange welded onto a half hot-rolled profile. The temperatures in the cross-section are evaluated by means of empirical formulas determined through a parametrical analysis, performed with the special purpose non-linear finite element program SAFIR. Considering these formulas, the bending capacity may be calculated, using an analytical approach to determine the plastic bending moment, for different fire resistance demands. The results obtained with this simplified method are validated through numerical analysis.

  • Natural frequencies of immersed square sections decrease due to a contribution of added mass to the movement of square sections. In this study, natural frequencies of square sections are obtained as a function of gap size between the square section and a rigid square wall using the finite element method. Additionally, they are used to extract the added mass effect on translational and rotation motions. Published information and studies on the translational and torsional vibration of square beams are also examined for practical use. D coupling of a square section is also investigated for multiple square sections. The suggested added mass estimation can be applicable to the spent fuel storage design of a pressurized light water modulated nuclear power plant.
