Section design of vehicle structure has been developed by two methods. One is the section property method which uses section property as a design variable. This method shows the tendency of an optimum section approximately. The other method is the section shape method which utilizes geometric parameter of section as a design variable. Practical solutions are obtained by this method. However, it is very expensive for large-scale problems due to the large number of geometric parameters. These two methods are compared through several sample problems. The finite element method is used for the structural and sensitivity analyses. The results are analyzed based on the number of function evaluations, the quality of cost function, the complexity of programing, and etc. The applications of both methods are also discussed.
In this study, a numerical procedure based on the finite element method for materially and geometrically nonlinear analysis of reinforced and prestressed concrete slender columns with arbitrary section subjected to combined biaxial bending and axial load is developed. In order to overcome the low computer efficiency of the conventional section integration method in which the reinforced concrete section is divided into a large number of small areas, an efficient section integration method is used to determine the section tangent stiffness. In this method, the arbitrary shaped cross section is divided into several concrete trapezoids according to boundary vertices, and the contribution of each trapezoid to section stiffness is determined by integrating directly the trapezoid. The space frame flexural theory is utilized to derive the element tangent stiffness matrix. The nonlinear full-range member response is traced by an updated normal plane arc-length solution method. The analytical results agree well with the experimental ones.
In this paper, we propose a method for generating a global path for an unmanned vehicle using public data of road section information. First, the method of analyzing road section information of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is presented. Second, we propose a method of preprocessing the acquired road section information and processing it into meaningful data that can be used for global routes. Third, we present a method for generating a global path using the preprocessed road section information. The proposed method has proven its effectiveness through actual autonomous driving experiments of unmanned ground vehicles.
Curve-net interpolation surface is one of the most popular method in engineering design. Therefore it is supported with many commercial CAD/CAM system. However, construction algorithm of curve-net interpolation surfaces is rarely opened to the public because of its copy-right. In this paper we establish a construction algorithm of curve-net interpolation surface so called sweeping surface which especially concentrates on trajectory of cross-section curve. We also show the method which can construct sweeping surfaces as NURB or Bezier mathematical models. Surfaces having the form of standard mathematical models are very useful for the application of joining, trimming, blending etc. The proposed surface interpolation scheme consists of four steps; (1) preparation of guide curves and section curves, (2) remeshing guide curves and section curves, (3) blending section curves after deformation, and (4) determination of control points for sweeping surface using gordon method. The proposed method guarantee $G^1$-continuety, and construct the surface salifying given section curves and trajectory of section curves.
Semiconductor processes need measurement to confirm where there are problems in quality after progresses manufacturing process. This paper suggests equipment and automatic measure sampling method that control monitoring ratio according to change point occurrence availability of process that is not measure method by the existent simple ratio rate. This paper defines measure section as ailment section, metastable section and stability section by change point standard and create statistical model of each section and developed suitable measure rate model by section. As a result, we have accomplished maximum throughput and minimum sampling number that needs to maintain constant level of quality. Proposed method minimizes load of measure process by brings production quality sophistication and decrease of process badness and lowers measure rate in stable section making perception about problem occurrence quick heightening measure rate at change point occurrence.
The transmission control method of small forklift is classified into pilot control method and direct control method. In pilot control method, the hydraulic circuit which consists a lot of components is very complex so the production process is too costly and time consuming. The direct control method contains fewer components that can be configured to simple hydraulic circuit. It has more advantages because the shift sensitivity of transmission is changed easily via the input profile. In this paper, the controller design and the input profile for system are studied to apply to the direct control method. The input profile consists of Fill section, Hold section and Ramp section. The characteristic of each section is obtained through experiment. As the result, the shift sensitivity and starting performance are effected by Fill section and Hold section.
DAS(Distribution Automation System) is equipped with several software applications such as service restoration, loss minimization, and protective relay coordination. The software applications of DAS are very sensitive to the amount of section load being carried by a particular section of distribution lines. Moreover, each software application requires a different parameter of the section load according to its purpose. Therefore, This paper proposes a new section load management method using real-time measurement data of the distribution lines. In order to provide accurate data to DAS applications, this method considers section loads in terms of the relationship of power versus time. In order to establish that the proposed method is feasible, a performance-testing simulator was developed, and case studies were conducted for a modified real distribution network.
The direct strength method adopted by the AISI Standard and AS/NZS 4600 is an advanced design method meant to substitute the effective width method for the design of cold-formed steel structural members accounting for local instability of thin plate elements. It was proven that the design strength formula for the direct strength method could predict the ultimate strength of medium strength steel welded section compressive and flexural members with local buckling reasonably. This paper focuses on the modification of the direct strength formula for the application to high strength and high performance steel welded section columns which have the nominal yield stress higher than 460 MPa and undergo local buckling, overall buckling or their interaction. The resistance of high strength steel welded H and Box section columns calculated by the proposed direct strength formulae were validated by comparison with various compression test results, FE results, and predictions by existing specifications.
In Korea, many buildings are built with underground spaces and cast-in-place pile method is mostly applied in the temporary retaining walls for the underground space construction. A H-shaped steel section is generally embedded in the soldier pile in the C.I.P method. In this study, a new and economical section with high strength steel replacing the H-shaped section was proposed and its flexural capacity was evaluated experimentally. The new section is the concrete-filled composite section with pentagonal thin plate and thick flange plate. Test results showed that the proposed section has an excellent flexural strength and ductility.
PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to suggest the construction and quality control method for the re-repair of a deteriorated partial depth repair for sections of Portland cement concrete pavement. METHODS : An experimental construction was conducted to extend the repair width for removing an existing repair section. A removal method was used to ensure early performance for a deteriorated partial depth repair section. Bond strength and split tensile strength were measured at the near vertical interface layer between the existing pavement and repair material. The area was analyzed for various conditions such as the extended repair area and the removing method of the existing repair section. RESULTS : As a result of analysis of bond strength and split tensile strength, the bonding performance of a milling removed section was improved over a cutting and hand breaker removed section. The bond strength was analyzed to increase slightly as the extended repair width for removing the existing repair section increased. The split tensile strength did not show a clear relationship to an increased extended repair width of an existing removed repair section. CONCLUSIONS : The milling removal method should be applied in the removal of existing deteriorated partial depth repair sections. The extended repair width for a re-repair section should be wider than the existing partial depth repair with at least a 75-mm length and width for the bond strength and the split tensile strength.
