Dynamic Analysis of a Maglev Conveyor Using an EM-PM Hybrid Magnet

  • With the emergence of high-integration array and large area panel process, the need to minimize the generation of particles in the field of semiconductor, LCD and OLED has grown. As an alternative to the conventional roller system, a contactless magnetic conveyor has been proposed to reduce the generation of particles. An EM-PM hybrid which is one of magnetic levitation types is already proposed for the conveyor system. One of problems pointed out with this approach is the vibration caused by the dynamic interaction between conveyor and rail. To reduce the vibration, the introduction of a secondary suspension system which aims to decouple the levitation electromagnet from the main body is proposed. The objective of this study is to develop a dynamic model for the magnetically levitated conveyor, and to investigate the effect of the introduced suspension system. An integrated model of levitation system and rail based on 3D multibody dynamic model is proposed. With the proposed model, the dynamic characteristics of maglev conveyor system are analyzed, and the effect of the secondary suspension and the stiffness and damping are investigated.

  • In this work, the magnetite ($Fe_3O_4$)/multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) composites for lithium secondary battery were prepared. Nano-$Fe_3O_4$ was deposited by chemical coprecipitation of $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$ in the presence of MWNTs in alkaline solutions. Transmission electron spectroscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses indicated that nano-$Fe_3O_4$ particles had a good crystallinity of cubic specimens and many tiny particles attached on the surfaces of the MWNTs. The electrochemical properties of $Fe_3O_4$/MWNTs composites as anodes in lithium-secondary batteries were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge/discharge techniques. The as-prepared $Fe_3O_4$/MWNTs composites showed an initial lithium storage capacity of 1120 mAh/g and a reversible capacity of 394 mAh/g after 100 cycles, demonstrating better performance than that of the commercial graphite anode materials.

  • The natural graphite particles A and heat-treated graphite particles B at $1800\;^{\circ}C$ after pitch-coating were used as the anode base materials for lithium ion secondary battery. In order to improve the performance of anode materials, the base anode materials were treated with various acids. With the acid treatments of 62% $HNO_3$ and 95% $H_2SO_4$ aqueous solution, the specific surface area and electrical conductivity of base anode materials were increased, and the initial charge-discharge capacity and cycle performance were improved due to the elimination of structural defects.

Size Characteristics of Lead Particles Generated in Four Industries

  • Workers' exposure to lead particles with diverse characteristics was assessed using personal cascade impactors in four different industries. Correlation analyses found that total airborne lead (PbA) concentrations could not explain the variation on MMAD of lead particles. From regression analysis, the concentrations of lead particles smaller than 1 um in AD were found to rise very slowly with increases in total PbA. They rarely contributed more than 50 ㎍/㎥ of total PbA over the range of 5.6-7,740 ㎍/㎥ although there are a few high values greater than 100 ㎍/㎥ while respirable lead concentrations significantly increased with increasing total PbA concentrations. In the secondary smelting and radiator manufacturing industries requiring high temperatures, the average fraction of respirable concentration in total PbA was 43.3% and 48.9%, respectively, which indicated an important contribution to the total PbA. In lead powder and battery manufacturing, it was less than 27%. Our study results concluded that workers' exposure to lead particles with diverse characteristics might not be effectively monitored by the current total PbA sampling alone. To protect workers exposed to different sizes of lead particles generated in many operations, an occupational standard for respirable lead particles should be added to the current total lead standard.

  • ZrO$_2$ coated flake graphite powders were prepared by the controlled hydrolysis of zirconium oxichloride. The stirring process plays an important role in the coating process. There are two types of coated ZrO$_2$ particles: (a)primary particles with few nm size were obtained by the direct formation of the shell by precipitation of the surface of the graphite and (b) Secondary particles of ZrO$_2$ with ∼0.1$\mu\textrm{m}$ size were obtained by the independent formation of primary particles ZrO$_2$ and subsequent heterocoagulation at the graphites surface.

Characterization of Summertime Aerosol Particles Collected at Subway Stations in Seoul, Korea Using Low-Z Particle Electron Probe X-ray Microanalysis

  • A quantitative single particle analytical technique, denoted low-Z particle electron probe X-ray microanalysis (low-Z particle EPMA), was applied to characterize particulate matters collected at two underground subway stations, Jegidong and Yangje stations, in Seoul, Korea. To clearly identify the source of the indoor aerosols in the subway stations, four sets of samples were collected at four different locations within the subway stations: in the tunnel; at the platform; near the ticket office; nearby outdoors. Aerosol samples collected on stages 2 and 3 ($D_p$: $10-2.5\;{\mu}m$ and $2.5-1.0\;{\mu}m$, respectively) in a 3-stage Dekati $PM_{10}$ impactor were investigated. Samples were collected during summertime in 2009. The major chemical species observed in the subway particle samples were Fe-containing, carbonaceous, and soil-derived particles, and secondary aerosols such as nitrates and sulfates. Among them, Fe-containing particles were the most popular. The tunnel samples contained 85-88% of Fe-containing particles, with the abundance of Fe-containing particles decreasing as the distances of sampling locations from the tunnel increased. The Fe-containing subway particles were generated mainly from mechanical wear and friction processes at rail-wheel-brake interfaces. Carbonaceous, soil-derived, and secondary nitrate and/or sulfate particles observed in the underground subway particles likely flowed in from the outdoor environment by human activities and the air-exchange between the subway system and the outdoors. In addition, since the platform screen doors (PSDs) limit air-mixing between the tunnel and the platform, samples collected at the platform at the Yangjae station (with PSDs) showed a marked decrease in the relative abundances of Fe-containing particles compared to the Jegidong station (without PSDs).

  • 마그네슘염과 알칼리를 출발물질로 하는 수산화마그네슘 제조에서 공정 변수가 생성되는 입자의 크기, 형상 및 응집도에 미치는 영향에 대해 완전 요인배치(full factorial) 실험계획법(Design of experiment)으로 연구하였다. 수열합성에서는 알칼리/$MgCl_2$ 몰 비가 낮을수록, $MgCl_2$ 농도와 수열처리 온도가 높을수록 평균입경은 커지고 1차 입자 크기와 2차 입자 크기가 유사하지만, 침전법으로 제조한 수산화마그네슘은 1차 입자의 응집현상으로 2차 입경은 커지며, 응집성은 알칼리원의 종류와 $MgCl_2$의 농도에 따라 달라졌다. 알칼리원의 종류에 따른 차이는 $NH_4OH$를 사용한 경우 NaOH를 사용한 것보다 입자의 크기가 커지고 분산성이 우수하였다. 크기 및 표면 상태가 다른 샘플을 선정하여 LDPE와 EVA 혼합수지에 혼합하여 난연 특성을 비교하였을 때, 50, 55% 함량에서는 일반적으로 2차 입경 크기가 감소함에 따라 LOI값은 상승하지만, UL-94에서는 1차 입자가 작은 경우에 더 우수한 등급을 받는 경우가 있었다. 60%의 높은 함량에서 입자의 제조경로와 무관하게 UL-94는 V0 등급이지만, 미립이더라도 응집성있는 경우 한계산소지수가 상대적으로 낮다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

순찰차량 시트에서 유리조각의 분포 연구 (A study of the distribution of glass particles on patrol car seats)

  • 충남지역에서 운행되는 10대의 순찰차량에서 유리조각의 분포를 연구하였다. 각 차량의 앞좌석(운전석, 조수석)과 뒷좌석에서 유리조각을 채취하였다. 채취영역은 각 좌석에서 등이 접촉하는 부분(이하 등받이로 표기), 엉덩이가 접촉하는 부분(이하 아랫면으로 표기) 및 엉덩이와 등받이의 사이 공간(이하 모서리로 표기)으로 설정하여 채취하였다. 채취영역에서 접착테이프를 사용하여 전사한 뒤 입체현미경을 사용하여 접착테이프에 있는 유리조각을 찾았다. 발견된 유리조각의 총 개수는 679 개였다. 그 중에서 경찰들이 주로 사용하는 앞좌석에서 발견된 유리조각의 수는 471 개(운전석 293, 조수석 178)였다. 유리조각 대부분의 크기는 0.49 mm 이하였다. 이러한 결과는 유리조각의 대부분이 뒷좌석보다 앞좌석에서 주로 발견된다는 것을 보여준다. 이를 통해 앞좌석에 있던 유리조각이 차량을 사용하는 경찰에게 전이되고, 경찰관이 범죄자와 접촉할 경우 이 유리조각이 범죄자에게 2차전이 될 가능성이 높다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서 2차전이로 인해 유리조각 증거가 오염되어 증거가치가 훼손될 수 있다. 그러므로 경찰은 순찰차량에서 발생할 수 있는 교차오염에 대한 방지대책을 강구해야 한다.

Controlling the secondary phase of BSCCO 2223 tapes by thermal slide heat treatment(TSHT)

  • The phase transformation, variation of secondary phase, and critical current density $(J_c) for (Bi,Pb)_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_10 (2223)$ tapes have been studied through the thermal slide heat treatment (TSHT) process. This process consists of a multiple variations of oxygen partial pressures and temperatures at the initial heat treatment During the initial heat treatment some secondary phase such as $(Ca,Sr)_2CuO_3(2/1 AEC), (Ca,Sr)_{14}Cu_{24}O_{41} (14/24 AEC), and (Bi,Pb)_2Sr_2CuO_y$(2201, amorphous phase) farm in Bi-2223 tapes, especially at the 2223 grain boundaries. These secondary phases are detrimental to the phase transformation and final properties. In order to control the secondary phase in Bi-2223 tapes the amount and size of secondary phases among the TSHT process were observed. The results indicate that the amount and particle size of AEC particles were smaller when the TSHT process was used than when the normal process at the initial heat treatment was used which results in the improved $J_c$ properties after the final process.

Preparation and Characterizations of C60/Polystyrene Composite Particle Containing Pristine C60 Clusters

  • Fullerene/polystyrene ($C_{60}$/PS) nano particle was prepared by using emulsion polymerization. Styrene and fullerene were emulsified in aqueous media in the presence of poly(N-vinyl pyridine) as an emulsion stabilizer, and polymerization was initiated by water soluble radical initiator, potassium persulfate. The obtained nano particles have an average diameter in the range of 400-500 nm. The fullerene contents in the nano particle can be controlled up to 15 wt % by varying the feed ratio, which was confirmed by themogravimetric analysis (TGA) and elemental analysis (EA). The structure and morphologies of the $C_{60}$/PS nano particles were examined by various analytical techniques such as dynamic light scattering (DLS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), electron diffraction (ED) pattern, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and UV spectroscopy. Unlike conventional $C_{60}$/PS particles initiated by organic free radical initiators, in which the fullerene is copolymerized forming a covalent bond with styrene monomer, the prepared $C_{60}$/PS nano particles contain pristine fullerene as secondary particles homogeneously distributed in the polystyrene matrix.
