Since the interaction between the second-phase particle and grain boundary was theoretically explained by Zener and Smith in the late 1940s, the interaction of the second-phase particle and grain boundary on the microstructure is commonly referred to as Zener pinning. It is known as one of the main mechanisms that can retard grain growth during heat treatment of metallic and ceramic polycrystalline systems. Computer simulation techniques have been applied to the study of microstructure changes since the 1980s, and accordingly, the second-phase particle-grain boundary interaction has been simulated by various simulation techniques, and further diverse developments have been made for more realistic and accurate simulations. In this study, we explore the existing development patterns and discuss future possible development directions.
Using SOHO particle and EUV detection and radio spectrograms from both ground-based and spaceborne instruments, we have studied the first phase of major solar energetic particle (SEP) events associated with wide and fast coronal mass ejections (CMEs) centered at different solar longitudes. Observations support the idea that acceleration of SEPs starts in the helium-rich plasma of the eruption's core well behind the CME leading edge, in association with coronal shocks and magnetic reconnection caused by the CME liftoff; and those "coronal" components dominate during the first ~1.5 hour of the SEP event, not yet being hidden by the CME-bow shock in solar wind. At magnetic connection to the eruption's periphery, onset of SEP emission is delayed for a time of the lateral expansion that is visualized by global coronal (EIT) wave. The first, "coronal" phase of SEP acceleration is followed by a second phase associated with CME-driven shock wave in solar wind, which accelerates high-energy ions from a helium-poor particle population until the interplanetary shock slows down to below 1000 km/s. Based on these and other SOHO observations, we discuss what findings can be expected from STEREO in the SOHO era perspective.
Fuzzy logic, neural network, fuzzy-neural network play an important as the key technology of linguistic modeling for intelligent control and decision making in complex systems. The fuzzy-neural network (FNN) learning represents one of the most effective algorithms to build such linguistic models. This paper proposes particle swarm optimization algorithm based optimal learning fuzzy-neural network (PSOA-FNN). The proposed learning scheme is the fuzzy-neural network structure which can handle linguistic knowledge as tuning membership function of fuzzy logic by particle swarm optimization algorithm. The learning algorithm of the PSOA-FNN is composed of two phases. The first phase is to find the initial membership functions of the fuzzy neural network model. In the second phase, particle swarm optimization algorithm is used for tuning of membership functions of the proposed model.
In multiphase flne the bubble size and velocity. To achieve this, one of approaches is to utilize laser phase-Doppler anemometry. However, it was found that the second order refraction has great impact on PDA sizing method when the relative refractive index of media is less than one. In this paper, the problem of second order refraction is investigated and a model of phase-size correlation to eliminate the measurement errors is introduced for bubble sizing. As a result, the model relates the assumption of single scattering mechanism in conventional phase-Doppler anemometry. The results of simulations based on this new model by using Generalized Lorenz Mie Theory (GLMT) are compared with those based on the conventional method. An optimization method for accurately sizing air-bubble in water has been suggested.
This paper presents the quantification and location damage detection of plane and space truss structures in a two-phase method to reduce the computations efforts significantly. In the first phase, a proposed damage indicator based on the residual force vector concept is used to get the suspected damaged members. In the second phase, using damage quantification as a variable, a teaching-learning based optimization algorithm (TLBO) is used to obtain the damage quantification value of the suspected members obtained in the first phase. TLBO is a relatively modern algorithm that has proved distinguished in solving optimization problems. For more verification of TLBO effeciency, the classical particle swarm optimization (PSO) is used in the second phase to make a comparison between TLBO and PSO algorithms. As it is clear, the first phase reduces the search space in the second phase, leading to considerable reduction in computations efforts. The method is applied on three examples, including plane and space trusses. Results have proved the capability of the proposed method to precisely detect the quantification and location of damage easily with low computational efforts, and the efficiency of TLBO in comparison to the classical PSO.

When an alloy such as Ni-W is liquid phase sintered, heavy solid W particles sedimentate to the bottom of the container, provided that their volume fraction is less than a critical value. The sintering process evolves typically in two stages, diffusiondriven macrosegregation sedimentation followed by true sedimentation. During macrosegregation sedimentation, the overall solid volume fraction decreases concurrently with elimination of liquid concentration gradient. However, in the second stage of true sedimentation, the average solid volume fraction in the mushy zone increases with time. It is proposed that the true sedimentation results from particle rearrangement for higher packing efficiency.

Mechanochemical effects that occurred in the fine grinding process of quartz particles using planetary ball mill was investigated. Quartz particles have been frequently utilized for optical materials, semiconductor molding materials. We determined that grinding for a long time can be create amorphous structures from the crystalline quartz by Mechanochemical effects. But, to be produced nano-composite particles that the critical grinding time reached for composite materials in a short time. Henceforth, a qualitative estimation must be conducted on the filler for EMC(Epoxy molding compound) materials. It can be produced mechanochemically treated composite materials and also an integrated grinding efficiency considering of the nano-composite amorphous structured particles. The mechanochemical characteristics were evaluated based on particle morphology, size distribution, specific surface area, density and the amount of amorphous phase materials into the particle surface. The grinding operation in the planetary ball mill can be classified into three stages. During the first stage, initial particle size was reduced for the increase of specific surface area. In the second stage, the specific surface areas increased in spite of the increase in particle size. The final stage as a critical grinding stage, the ground quartz was considered mechanochemically treated particles as a nano- composite amorphous structured particles. The development of amorphous phase on the particle surface was evaluated by X-ray diffractometry, thermal gravity analysis and IR spectrometer. The amount of amorphous phase of particles ground for 2048 minutes was 85.3% and 88.2% by X-ray analysis and thermal gravity analysis, respectively.
Acicular $\alpha-FeOOH\; and\; Ba(OH)_2\cdot8H_2O$ are starting materials in this study. This paper presents the characteristics of the contents of citric acid and heating condition for preparing acicular barium ferrite powder. They control particle shape, crystalline phase, magnetic properties of acicular barium ferrite powder So the effects of the contents of citric acid and heating condition are studied. The experimental condition for starting materials were 800~1000$\circ C$ in firing and 0~40 wt% citric acid, respectively, Ba-ferrite particles fired at the range of 800 $\circ C$to 900 $\circ C$ were maintained as acicular particle shape, but there were mixed particles of acicular and round shape after fired at 950 $\circ C$. Ba-ferrite powder of the single phase was obtained in firing at 900~1000$\circ C$ and with 20 wt.% citric acid. There were unreacted phase of $\alpha-Fe_2O_3 \;and \; BaFe_2O_4$ phases as a second phase in case of sintering at below 850 $\circ C$. Acicular barium ferrite powder of single phase was also produced in firing at 900 $\circ C$ with 20 wt.% citric acid. The saturation magnetization of single phase of acicular $BaFe_12O_19$powder was about 51 emu/g and coercivity was about 4200 Oe.
Parameter estimations were made for the reversed-phase adsorption of perillyl alcohol (POH), a potent anti-cancer agent, on octadecylsilyl-silica gel (ODS). The average particle diameter of ODS was about $15\;{\mu}m$, and the particles were packed in the column $(3.9\;\times\;300mm)$. The mobile phase used was a mixture of acetonitrile and water, in which the acetonitrile ranged between 50 and $70\;(v/v\;\%)$. The first absolute moment and the second central moment were determined from the chromatographic elution curves by moment analysis. Experiments were carried out using POH solutions within the linear adsorption range. The fluid-to-particle mass transfer coefficient was estimated using the Wilson-Geankoplis equation. The axial dispersion coefficient and the intra particle diffusivity were determined from the slope and intercept of a plot of H vs $1/u_0$, respectively. The contributions of each mass-transfer step were axial dispersion, fluid-to-particle mass transfer, and intraparticle diffusion.

Fabrication of $Fe_3AlC$ matrix in-situ composite, reinforced by a FeAl phase, was studied by using the powder metallurgical processing route. Especially, in order to disperse the second phase more finely, we chose the mechanical alloying process. We investigated the microstructural and mechanical properties of the consolidated material. After consolidation by vacuum hot pressing, the compact showed almost full density and consisted of a $Fe_3AlC$ matrix and FeAl second phase (average particle size was less than 1m). The compact showed HV746, which was higher than that of the arc melted $Fe_3AlC$ monolithic material, HV603.
