  • Nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome is an ecto-mesodermal polydysplasia with numerous manifestations that affect multiple organs. The syndrome is an autosomal dominant inherited, with a high penetration and visible expression. The syndrome is characterized by a series of associated anomalies such as cutaneous, dentofacial, skeletal, ophthalmologic, neurological, and genital anomalies. Generally, the jaw cysts are multiple odontogenic keratocysts, affecting any area of maxilla and mandible. Multiple odontogenic keratocysts of this syndrome are more recurrent than the keratocysts of non-syndrome, thus they are treated aggressively for complete removal. We report a case of multiple jaw cysts associated with nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome. In clinical and radiological examinations, frontal bossing, hypertelorism, mild mental retardation and two odontogenic keratocysts in both the maxilla and mandible were observed. Two cysts were treated by marsupialization. For the management of eruption of unerupted teeth, periodic recall check and orthodontic treatment are required.

  • In mammalian ovary, major portion(>99%) of ovarian follicles undergo atresia. Recent studies have shown that this phenomenon is mediated via GC apoptosis. Ceramide, a product of sphingomyelin hydrolysis, has been proposed as a novel lipid second messenger with specific roles in mediating antiproliferative responses including apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. In the present study, we have examined the effect of ceramide on apoptotic cell death of GC in vitro. GCs were harvested by squeezing the antral follicles from the immature mice (3-4 weeks) and cultured in MEM medium with 10% fetal bovine serum. The cells were treated with various concentrations of ceramide (0 to 50 \mu M)and cultured up to 24 h.Cell death was determined by MTT cell viability assay and apoptosis was examined by acridine orange staining, in situ 3'-end labeling(TUNEL), and flow cytometry. Ceramid treatment induced apoptotic cell death of GC in a time- and a dose-dependent manner. Results of flow cytometric analysis showed that creamide-induced cell death was mostly confined to the $G_{0}$/$G_{1}$ cells. these results provide an evidence for ceramide as a lipid second messenger of apoptosis in mouse GC.

  • The mutational effects of pentachlorophenol (PCP) on the hypoxanthine phosphoribosyl transf erase (hprt) locus in human T-cell were analysed by T-cell clonal assay in vitro. Cells were exposed for 24 hours at primary culture to 0~100 ppm (W/V) PCP in dimethyl sulfoxide. Treated cells were allowed at the same time to stimulate by phytohemagglutinin (PHA) and T-cell growth factor (TCGF) and then seeded in medium containing 6-thioguanine to select for hprt-negative routants. We have also defined the optimal condition for the determination of mutant frequency. The parameters investigated include survival counting, first and second subculture for clonal efficiency plating and mutant plating. Under the optimal conditions, mutant frequencies of high dose-treated cells were significantly higher than those of non-treated or low dose cells. The results indicated a clear dose-effect relationship and showed that mutant frequency in 50 ppm PCP treated cell was 4.31$\times$$10^{-5}$ (background, 8.32$\times$$10^{-6}$). Above data strongly suggest that hprt mutation assay can be used as a biomarker for the environmental risk assessment.

  • Traffic performance in a microcellular system is much more affected by cell dwell time and channel holding time in each cell. Cell dwell time of a call is characterized by its mobility pattern, i.e., stochastic changes of moving speed and direction. Cell dwell time provides important information for other analyses on traffic performance such as channel holding time, handover rate, and the average number of handovers per call. In the next generation mobile communication system, the cell size is expected to be much smaller than that of current one to accommodate the increase of user demand and to achieve high bandwidth utilization. As the cell size gets small, traffic performance is much more affected by variable mobility of users, especially by that of pedestrians. In previous work, analytical models are based on simple probability models. They provide sufficient accuracy in a simple second-generation cellular system. However, the role of them is becoming invalid in a picocellular environment where there are rapid change of network traffic conditions and highly random mobility of pedestrians. Unlike in previous work, we propose an improved probability model evolved from so-called Random walk model in order to mathematically formulate variable mobility of pedestrians and analyze the traffic performance. With our model, we can figure out variable characteristics of pedestrian mobility with stochastic correlation. The above-mentioned traffic performance measures are analyzed using our model.

  • Objectives : This study aimed to identify factors of adolescents' cell-phone dependency using Agnew's General Strain Theory (GST) and the perspective of adolescents' micro-systems. A second aim was to verify the moderating effect of self-esteem. Methods : In total, 2,046 students who participated in a study on KCTPS mid. 1 panel 3 Wave by the National Youth Policy Institute were examined in this research. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, factor analysis, reliability tests, and hierarchical linear regression using SPSS Ver. 22.0. Results : The strain factors had a positive effect on adolescents' depression, and depression had a positive effect on cell-phone dependency. In addition, self-esteem had a negative moderating effect between depression and cell-phone dependency. Conclusions : Factors of cell-phone dependency were identified. The findings of the study indicate that an intervention is required to lower strain and depression and to enhance self-esteem among adolescents.

  • Phosphatidylinositol (3,4,5)-triphosphate ($PIP_3$) is a lipid second messenger that employs a wide range of downstream effector proteins for the regulation of cellular processes, including cell survival, polarization and proliferation. One of the most well characterized cytoplasmic targets of $PIP_3$, serine/threonine protein kinase B (PKB)/Akt, promotes cell survival by directly interacting with nucleophosmin (NPM)/B23, the nuclear target of $PIP_3$. Here, we report that nuclear $PIP_3$ competes with Akt to preferentially bind B23 in the nucleoplasm. Mutation of Arg23 and Arg25 in the PH domain of Akt prevents binding to $PIP_3$, but does not disrupt the Akt/B23 interaction. However, treatment with phosphatases PTEN or SHIP abrogates the association between Akt and B23, indicating that nuclear $PIP_3$ regulates the Akt/B23 interaction by controlling the concentration and subcellular dynamics of these two proteins.

  • Basal cell adenocarcinoma is a extremely rare low grade malignancy of the salivary gland. It is composed of basaloid cells with dark cell, light cells and pale cytoplasm which shows infiltrative growth pattern into adjacent glandular parenchyme. The pathophysiology of basal cell adenocarcinoma is not well known. First hypothesis is a malignant transformation of the monomorphic adenoma and second one is a de novo origin. Metastasis to the regional lymph nodes is rare. Recently, we have experienced a case of basal cell adenocarcinoma with neck metastasis after previous superficial parotidectomy. For this reason we report this rare case discussed with references.

  • Background: This analysis was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of crizotinib based regimens in treating Chinese patients with EML4-ALK positive non-small-cell lung cancer. Materials and Methods: Clinical studies evaluating the efficacy and safety of crizotinib based regimens on response and safety for Chinese patients with EML4-ALK positive non-small-cell lung cancer were identified by using a predefined search strategy. Pooled response rate (RR) of treatment were calculated. Results: In crizotinib based regimens, 3 clinical studies which including 128 Chinese patients with EML4-ALK positive non-small-cell lung cancer and treated with crizotinib based regimen were considered eligible for inclusion. Pooled analysis suggested that, in all patients, the pooled RR was 59.3% (76/128) in crizotinib based regimens. ALT/AST mild visual disturbances, nausea, and vomiting were the main side effects. No treatment related death occurred in these crizotinib based treatments. Conclusions: This pooled analysis suggests that crizotinib based regimens are associated with good response rate and accepted toxicities in treating Chinese patients with EML4-ALK positive non-small-cell lung cancer.

  • Since the inception of nuclear power as a commercial energy source, safety has been recognized as a prime consideration in the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of nuclear power plants. The release of radioactivity to the environment requires the failure of multiple safety systems and the breach of three physical barriers: fuel cladding, the reactor cooling system, and containment. In this study, nuclear reactor containment pressurization has been modeled in a large break-loss of coolant accident (LB-LOCA) by programming single-cell and multicell models in MATLAB. First, containment has been considered as a control volume (single-cell model). In addition, spray operation has been added to this model. In the second step, the single-cell model has been developed into a multicell model to consider the effects of the nodalization and spatial location of cells in the containment pressurization in comparison with the single-cell model. In the third step, the accident has been simulated using the CONTAIN 2.0 code. Finally, Bushehr nuclear power plant (BNPP) containment has been considered as a case study. The results of BNPP containment pressurization due to LB-LOCA have been compared between models, final safety analysis report, and CONTAIN code's results.
