Machine-Learning based Smart Seat for Correction of Driver's Posture while Driving (기계학습 기반의 주행중 운전자 자세교정을 위한 지능형 시트)

  • This paper presents a smart seat for correction of driver posture while driving. We introduce good postures with seat height, seat angle, head height, back of knees, distances of foot pedals, tilt of seat, etc. There have been some studies on correction of good posture while driving, effects of driving environment on driver's posture, sitting strategies based on seating pressure distribution, estimation of driver's standard postures, and others. However, there are a few studies on guide of good postures while driving for problem of driver's posture using machine leaning. Therefore, we suggest a smart seat for correction of driver's posture based on machine leaning, 1) developed the system to get postures by 10 piezoelectric effect element, 2) collect piezoelectric values from 37 drivers and 28 types of cars, 3) suggest 4 types of good postures while driving, 4) analyze test postures by kNN. As the results, we can guide good postures for bad or problems of postures while driving.

Static Strength Analysis and Safety Evaluation for Developing a Round Recliner (라운드 리클라이너 개발을 위한 정적 강도 해석 및 안전성 평가)

  • Seat is one of the most important part of an automobile for passenger's safety especially when an accident happens. A recliner is a part of the seat assembly, having the function of adjusting the back-plate angle of a seat. Recently, many kinds of vehicles have adopted the round recliner module rather than the conventional types of recliners because of its broad compatibility and structural simplicity. In this study a two-dimensional finite element strength analysis has been performed using a commercial code ABAQUS/Standard for the purpose of developing a new round recliner model. The loading condition for the analysis is the same as the FMVSS 301 regulation. The finite element result for the round recliner has been compared with that for the conventional type.

Ride Quality Investigation of Passenger Cars on Different Road Conditions

  • Objective: The ride qualities of the six passenger cars were evaluated in 4 subjects on the highway and uneven road. The relation between vibration with driving velocity and driving posture were also investigated separately. Background: Ride comfort plays an important role in the vehicle design. Vibration is the one of the principal components associated with ride comfort. Method: The acceleration of the foot, hip and back were measured using B&K accelerometers in this study. The velocity of the passenger cars was maintained at a constant speed of 80km/h on the highway and 40km/h on the uneven road. For evaluating the effects of driving velocity and driving posture on vehicle's vibration level, separate experiments were performed on the highway with 5 different vehicle speeds and 5 different backrest angles, respectively. Results: The overall ride value of the luxury car showed the best result while the smaller car showed the worst value on the highway. On the uneven road the overall ride value level was increased 75~98%. All the vehicles had the SEAT value less than 1. Faster the velocity lowers the SEAT value. The ride quality in terms of vibration gets worst when the backrest angle increased. Conclusion: The smaller car had a first mode at the higher frequency and showed higher vibration level. SEAT value was mostly affected by the seat property not by vehicle. We ranked the luxury car seat had a best vibration reduction quality than others based on SEAT values. When the driving velocity increased, the overall ride values were increased proportionally and the SEAT values were somewhat decreased. A proposal of the Optimal Angle of Standing Assistant Chair for the Elderly by Comparing of Pressure Distribution on Hip (둔부의 압력분포 비교를 이용한 고령자용 기립보조의자의 기립 최적각도 제안)

  • One of the most performed action in daily life is standing up from sitting position. As the population of the world is aging at the high rates, people may face problems with reduced muscle strength as well as psychological changes. This can lead elderly people having difficulties with standing up from chair. Now, with the aging trend worldwide, products are being developed that can support the lives of the elderly. This study examines the distribution of hip pressure in relation to the seating positions of the standing assistance seats under development to prevent standing up accidents in older adults. The currently developing standing assistant chair designed to tilt to a maximum angle of 25 degrees. At over $25^{\circ}$, design considers that older people are at risk of thrown back out of that force and that the forces exerted on their arms and legs can be a significant burden to older people. By considering danger of higher than $25^{\circ}$ for older people which is experimented in the basis of static capturing approach in previous papers, it is experimented people with age group of 20~60 on $0^{\circ}$ to $25^{\circ}$ tilting angle on the basis of dynamic capturing method in order to pick convenient angle of inclination. Moreover, tried to find the optimum angle by comparing the hip pressure distribution when seated at the edge of the seat and at the center of the seat with the pressure distribution sensor.

Prediction of Postural Sagging Observed During Driving in Korean Male Drivers (한국인 남성 운전자의 운전 자세에서 발생하는 몸통 처짐 현상에 관한 예측 모델 연구)

  • In the vehicle design, the research on driving posture has stood out as one of the important issues. Recently, the research on 3D human modeling focused on more exact implementation of real driving posture. However, prediction of driving posture through the 3D human modeling fail to reflect on the model the phenomenon called sagging, which refers to the retraction or shrinking of the torso while driving. 30 male subjects participated in the experiment where total subjects were divided into four groups according to height percentile(under 50%ile, 51%ile to 75%ile, 76%ile to 95%ile, over 95%ile). The independent variables were seat back angle(4 levels) and seat pan angle(2 levels). The dependent variable was capacity or the degree of retraction of the torso. First this study measured the sagging capacity by using a paired T-test between erect and retracted posture. Secondly it was tried to find out significant anthropometric variables that were statistically correlated by the analysis of correlation. Finally, a prediction model was derived which explains the capacity of sagging.

Prevalence Rate for Low Back Pain and Related Factors in Senior High School Teachers (일부지역 고등학교 교사들의 요통 유병률 및 관련요인)

  • Objectives: The objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence rate and factors related with low back pain(LBP) in senior high school teachers. Methods: Questionnaires were completed by 405 teachers at 13 high school in Andong city in July 2-14, 2001. The information was used to estimate odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence intervals(CI) for factors relation to LBP prevalence. A cross-section study design was used in this study. Results: The pointprevalence rate for LBP was 26.4%, prevalence rate for 6 months was 36.0%, prevalence rate for 1 year was 36.5%, and experience rate during life time was 55.1%, The factors associated with LBP by Chi-square test were marital status(p=0.014), An angle for back rest of car seat(p=0.014), and vibration of seat (p=0.003), 12.2% for patients with LBP was a higher than 6.0% for without in singles, Patients(29.0%) were higher than no patients(17.8%) in above $100^{\circ}$. 14% for patients who exposed to a high vibration. Vibration significantly associated with point prevalence rate for LBP were marital status and lecture time in logistic analysis. The married teachers had a higher LBP experience than singles(OR=2.6, 95% CI 1.13-6.03). The teachers who have a lot of lecture time in a day had a higher experience than those for less time(OR=1.6, 95% CI 1.42-2.51). Conclusions: Results from this study indicate that a statistical significant factors relation to LBP were marital status and lecture time in a day.

Structure Analysis on Automotive Seat Recliner Housing with High Tension Steel Plate (고장력 강판으로 된 자동차 시트 리크라이너 하우징에 대한 구조 해석)

  • Automotive seat recliner has the function to control the angle at the back of chair and has the relation close to the safety of seat. Therefore each of parts constituting the recliner is important and the recliner housing to protect these parts from various dynamic loads is also important. In this study, the recliner housing with t=3mm which is made of high tension steel plate(SPFC 980) is applied to actual automotive seat. The deformation is investigated through the durability tester. Deformation and equivalent stress are also analyzed by simulation analysis under the same condition with experiment. After recliners with thicknesses of 1mm and 2mm are modeled by bases of experimental and analysis values, deformation and equivalent stress are investigated through structural analysis.

Development of Turtle Neck Posture Correction Chair Through Posture Recognition (자세인지를 통한 거북목자세 교정의자 개발)

  • Many people do not realize that they have poor neck posture. Incorrect forward head posture can lead to turtle neck. This aim to development of specific chair to reduce tension and other symptoms of turtle neck posture. This turtle neck syndrome adjusting chair is a chair that supports the hip and shin of a person to help them correct their posture. It is consisted of the shin support that supports the shin in an angle and the hip support that supports one's hip while the shin is supported at an angle, the main frame that has the two of them connected and the fluid seat that is joined at the top of the hip support and reacts accordingly to the shape of the hip. This is a posture correction chair which has the fluid seat that provides unstable hip support so that it can allow a person to realize their posture from the constant stimulation about the posture. When one seats on the posture correction chair, their hip and shin are supported at an angle that straitens their back, and as their back is straightened, their shoulders and chest are opened, and the neck is positioned at the middle to help them correct their posture. An unbalanced posture causes discomfort to the person seated at the chair, and the person sitting on the posture correction chair will continuously adjust his/her posture to balance the hips to keep the correct posture. Through this process, the person shall adjust his/her left and right posture, ultimately increasing the effectiveness of posture correction. A future collective study on the continuous posture correction of people having turtle neck syndrome using this posture correction chair is required.

The relationship analysis in VDT of work hours (VDT 작업시간의 관련성 분석)

  • Objectives : This study was to investigate the relationship analysis in VDT(visual display terminal) of work hours. Methods : Questionnaires were completed by 41 women in VDT operations. The information was used to estimate multiple regression for the VDT of work hours related factors association. Results : The prevalence of the VDT of work hours was significantly higher in the shoulder which followed by the neck, the hand and fingers, the arms, the lowback, the back. The VDT of work hours decreased with aging. The VDT of work hours increased with work duration, single, lower among habitual exercise. The desk height, the seat pan height, the posture on the sitting, the elbow angle all did not meet the recommended criteria. Conclusions : Data from this study support a statistically significant association with satisfaction for occupation.

A Development of an Occupant Packaging Tool Using 3-Dimensional Coordinates in Passenger Vehicle's Driver Space (3차원 좌표를 이용한 승용차 운전공간의 설계기법 개발)

  • This research suggested a method by which the driver space can be designed to best accommodate the driver's anthropometric characteristics. Three-dimensional manikins and a variable seating buck were developed and used for this study. Manikins were designed with 18 links comprising the 95th percentile male and 5th percentile female data. The seating buck was built to create various driving environments using the distance and the height between the H-point(hip pivot) of the seat and the AHP(accelerator heel point), the angle of the back rest, the angle of the steering wheel, the vertical distance of the steering wheel, and the location of the T.G.S.(transmission gear shift) knob. Measurements of each variable were collected with a coordinate measuring machine by positioning the 3-D manikin under various combinations of the design factors of the seating buck, which was constructed based on mid-size domestic passenger cars. The data were then converted to the joint angles of the driver. The combination of the measurements for an optimal driving environment is suggested by applying sets of the joint angles at which the driver feels comfortable.
