The protection of frontal seat passengers in both driver and front seated occupant has been more focused from the auto industries as well as regulatory bodies more than 40 years. Recently, their interests have been extended to rear seat occupants especially children and female occupants. However, the current available safety devices for the rear seat occupants are seat belt only. According to the previous researchers, the injury level of the rear seat passengers tend to be higher than the injury level of the frontal seat passengers. In this study, the optimal location of seat belts anchorages to enhance rear passengers crashworthiness are studied. FEM models are designed in accordance with regulation of KMVSS102, UN R44, UN R16, and UN R14. and three point belts are fitted on the HybridIII 5th percentile dummy and HybridIII 50th percentile dummy. The combined injury value used HIC15, Nij, Chest deflection, Femur force are used to evaluate rear seat belt anchorage optimal locations.

According to the National Fire Agency, there were 61 traffic accidents of Fire engines in 2021. That is an increase of about 80% compared to the previous year. And the number of injuries and deaths increased by more than 300%. According to the survey of this study, less than 25% of firefighters wore seat belts of Fire engines during dispatch, contrary to the rapid increase in injuries and deaths. About the reasons for why firefighters do not wear seat belts, It can be found in aspects that are related to personal consciousness, organizational culture, and firefighting dispatch. The number of dispatches will increase in the future, this is considered to be a serious problem for the stability of the firefighting organization. In this study, a seat belt should be designed newly and proposed to improve the seat belt wearing policy.

Although it is mandatory to wear a seat belt that can minimize human injury when traffic accident occurs, the number of traffic accident casualties not wearing seat belts still accounts for a significant proportion. The seat belt wearing detection system for all seats is a system that identifies whether all seat passengers wear a seat belt and encourages their usage, also it can be a useful technical countermeasure. Firstly, this study established the viability of system implementation by assessing the factors influencing the severity of injuries in traffic accidents through the development of an ordered probit model. Analysis results showed that the use of seat belts has statistically significant effects on the severity of traffic accidents, reducing the probability of death or serious injury by 0.054 times in the event of a traffic accident. Secondly, a meta-analysis was conducted based on prior research related to seat belts and injuries in traffic accidents to estimate the expected reduction in accident severity upon the implementation of the system. The analysis of the effect of accident severity reduction revealed that wearing seat belts would lead to a 63.3% decrease in fatal accidents, with the front seats showing a reduction of 75.7% and the rear seats showing a reduction of 58.1% in fatal accidents. Lastly, Using the results of the meta-analysis and traffic accident statistics, the expected decrease in the number of traffic accident casualties with the implementation of the system was derived to analyze the traffic safety effects of the proposed detection system. The analysis demonstrated that with an increase in the adoption rate of the system, the number of casualties in accidents where seat belts were not worn decreased. Specifically, at a system adoption rate of 60%, it is anticipated that the number of fatalities would decrease by more than three times compared to the current scenario. Based on the analysis results, operational strategies for the system were proposed to increase seat belt usage rates and reduce accident severity.
In recent days, according as ergonomics and aesthetic engineering are important factors in the product market, there is a demand to develop automobile seat and interior designs which are focused on sensitive elements such as aesthetic and comfort features in order to satisfy the sensitive needs of consumers. To meet such demands, car seats are turning into functional and sensitive products that reflect elements of function and entertainment. According to such trends, this research is aimed to develop the illuminating car seat fabric that serve such functions as recognizing and reacting to car environments, which includes sensing over-speed, open doors, and unfastened safety belts through the illuminating car seat fabrics by optical fiber. For this purpose, basic physical properties of optical fiber are analyzed, appropriate weaving and etching technologies are applied, and the woven fabric of optical fiber for car seats are illuminating depend upon car environments. Moreover, the applicable woven fabric of optical fiber is deduced after evaluating the physical properties (such as tensile strength, heatproof, anti-fouling, washable and combustible traits) for the appropriateness of applying the woven fabric of optical fiber to car seats. For this purpose, the woven fabric of optical fiber is covered according to car seat processes; the optical fiber applied to seats is composed that it may be connected to one end of the connector linked to a LED so that it may perform functions like sensing over-speed, open doors, and unfastened safety belts; the sensed signals are transmitted to the control part, and luminescent signals are transmitted to LED.

A possible adverse effect on the likelihood of front-seat occupant fatalities from unbelted rear-seat occupants in frontal crashes is investigated using Fatal Accident Reporting System data. Passenger cars which sustained frontal damage and which did not roll over are included in this analysis. Of the frontally damaged cars, only cars containing a driver and a right-front passenger are selected. Then, from these cars, the following three cases are considered: a) left-rear occupant present, b) right-rear occupant present, and c) no one else in the car. Cars belonging to a) or b) contain only three occupants, and those belonging to the last case contain only two occupants. In addition, all occupants are unbelted. To estimate the influence of rear-seat occupants on front-seat occupant fatalities, relative risks of driver and right-front passenger fatalities are compared pairwise across these three cases. The adverse influence of unbelted rear-seat occupants on the likelihood of unbelted front-seat occupant fatalities in frontal crashes is estimated to be 7.9% ${\pm}$ 45%(the error limits indicate one standard error). In other words, front-seat occupant fatalities are increased 7.9% in frontal crashes due to the loadings from unbelted rear-seat occupants. This suggests that the usage of safety belts by rear-seat occupants not only may extend their own lives but also helps in reducing the fatalities of front-seat occupants seated in front of them.

In this paper, a method of modeling seat belts on crew seat during dynamic seat testing was studied. The body segments of the occupant were modeled with joints. The joints consisted with various stiffnesses, dampings, and frictions. Three types of seat belt restraint systems were investigated. The analysis for on the injury assessment of helicopter's crew under drop impact was conducted. The effectiveness of the seat belt system for crashworthiness and safety was evaluated. As the results of impact analysis, head, neck and spine of the crew can be easily damaged in the vertical direction more than the longitudinal direction. Based on the verified model, behavior of human body was studied with three-point restraint systems. The displacement and injury level of the 12-point restraint system was the smallest.

The role of a seat belt in a vehicle is to protect the driver from injury when a crash occurs. However when a large crash occurs, the driver slips forward and receives a strong impact. To prevent this situation, improvement of seat belts is essential. In this study, the new concept of a dynamic locking tongue (DLT) for seat belts is developed. The DLT device is used to reduce the impact to the driver's chest by tightening the webbing, so the driver is protected from severe injury in a large crash. First, a finite element model of the DLT device is created using SAMCEF and structural analysis is conducted with boundary conditions similar to those found in experiments. Then, the stress in the DLT device can be calculated. Second, the shape of the DLT device is optimized using the response surface analysis method in order to minimize the stress and weight. The validity of the optimization of the DLT device is verified using structural analysis.
Belt Integrated Seat(BIS) has many advantages compared to the existing seats. Due to the development of materials and manufacturing technology, BIS, which has been used restrictely in the past, has gone through a rapid growth. As a result, its advantages have gained attention and the possibility of replacing the existing seats has grown. The need to develop BIS has risen and presently joint development with associated industries is in progress. For its first goal, the development and research of Recliner sensor has been selected. Recliner sensor is an essential part of the BIS in which the belt is incorporated onto the seat. In seat-belts, there is an inclination sensor which locks the belt according to the angle of a car. Because the inclination sensor can change frequently depending on the back of seat, a device which can enhance the inclination sensor according to the angle of the back of seat. It is the Recliner sensor that play's this role. Studies on Recliner sensor within and outside Korea has not yet made a salient progress, and due to this fact, the joint development has made a start by benchmarking other company's products. Currently, in other to set the course of the development, a research in patents and various other information is being done. In addition, for the purpose of developing a product which will be compatible with the existing products, a prototype will be made and tested before a new product makes its launching on the market.

Occupant simulation models have been used to study trends or specific design changes in several typical crash situations. The ATB, Articulated Total Body, was developed and used to predict gross human body responses to vehicle crashes and pilot ejections. Since the ATB source code is open to public, the user can add their own defined modules and functions. The introduction of seat belts into cars significantly decreased the injury risk of passengers in frontal impacts. In this paper, a new seat belt model was developed and implemented into the ATB. For this purpose, a subroutine of the new seat belt was constructed. A force-deflection function was added to replace an existing function to consider energy absorption. The function includes hysteresis effects of the experiment data of the loading and unloading parts of the seat belt load-extension curve. Moreover, this belt model considers a slip between ellipsoid and belt segments. This paper attempted to validate the ATB program which includes the subroutine of new belt models comparing with the real car frontal crash experiments and MADYMO frontal models. The analysis focusses on the human movement and body accelerations.

Blunt breast trauma occurs in 2% of blunt chest injuries. This study aimed to evaluate the evidence on breast reconstruction after blunt trauma associated with the use of a seat belt. Also, we describe the first case of breast reconstruction using the Ribeiro technique. In November 2022, a systematic search of MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Google Scholar databases was conducted. The literature was screened independently by two reviewers, and the data was extracted. Our search terms included breast, mammoplasty, blunt injury, and seat belts. In addition, we present the case of a woman with a left breast deformity and her reconstruction using the inferior Ribeiro flap technique. Six articles were included. All included studies were published between 2010 and 2021. The studies recruited seven patients. According to the Teo and Song classification, seven class 2b cases were reported. In five cases a breast reduction was performed in the deformed breast with different types of pedicles (three superomedial flaps, one lower flap, one superior flap). Only one case presented complications. The case here presented was a type 2b breast deformity in which the lower Ribeiro pedicle was used successfully without complications during follow-up. Until now there has been no consensus on reconstructive treatment due to the rarity of this entity. However, we must consider surgical treatment individually for each patient. We believe that the Ribeiro technique is a feasible and safe alternative in the treatment of posttraumatic breast deformities, offering very good long-term results.
