  • On the basis of marginal likelihood of the residual vector which is free of nuisance mean parameters, we propose new Lagrange Multiplier seasonal unit root tests in seasonal autoregressive process. The limiting null distribution of the tests is the standardized ${\chi}^2-distribution$. A Monte-Carlo simulation shows the new tests are more powerful than the tests based on the ordinary least squares (OLS) estimator, especially for large number of seasons and short time spans.

  • Measurements of the seasonal variations of concentration and size distribution of TSP, $SO_4^{2-}, NO_3^-, Cl^-, NH_4^+, Na^+, K^+, Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ were made by Andersen air sampler from May 1995 to April 1996 in Seoul. The size distribution of these ions was divided into four patterns. 1) Distribution was concentrated on fine particles over a year such as $NO_3^-$ component, 2) Distribution was predominated in coarse particles fraction over a year such as $Mg^{2+}$ and $Ca^{2+}$ components, 3) Distribution was differerent from various seasons such as $NH_4^+, SO_4^{2-}, Cl^-$ and $K^+$ components, 4) Distribution was bi-modal such as $Na^+$.

  • The seasonal distribution and abundance of larval fishes in the central and southern surface waters of the East Sea were investigated seasonally during 2011 and 2012. During the study period, the larvae of 39 species belonging to 26 families were collected. The most abundant species were Engraulisjaponicus, which accounted for 97.5% of the total number of individuals collected. Scomber japonicus, Clupea pallasii, Chromis notatus, Cottidae sp., and Coryphaena hippurus accounted for 1.7% of the total. The number of species, number of individuals, and species diversity indices fluctuated with the season. The peak number of species and individuals occurred in September and May, respectively. The larvae of the main species displayed a distinct spatial distribution and seasonal occurrence patterns. E. japonicus and C. notatus widely distributed throughout the study area. During summer and autumn, S. japonicus and C. hippurus were abundant in southern and offshore regions. C. pallasii occurred only in the southern region during winter. The seasonal occurrence and patterns of distribution of the larvae of main species seems were correlated with surface water temperature.

  • Occurence, seasonal changes and vertical distribution of the silica-scaled chrysophytes in a small fish-free pond were studied using electron microscopy (EM) and light microscopy (LM) from October 1998 to July 1999. The phytoplankton community was characterized by Chrysophyta and Cryptophyta. Ten species of the silica-scaled chrysophytes of genera Mallomonas, Synura, Chrysosphaerella and Spiniferomonas were identified by EM, and the most abundant species were Mallomonas akrokomos and M. portae-ferreae. The maximum population density of M. akrokomos was observed in December and several peaks appeared periodically at about one to two month intervals, whereas M. portae-ferreae developed the maximum density in March. The diurnal vertical distribution of M. akrokomos exhibited clear downward migration at night and slightly upward migration in the morning. A complex interaction among physico-chemical and biological factors seemed to affect the vertical distribution of M. akrokomos. However, the seasonal changes of M. akrokomos did not show significant corre1ations with the physico-chemical and some biologica1 factors. Although M. akrokomos was evenly distributed throughout the water column during some experimental periods, the diurnal patterns found in the two diurnal cycles showed consistency in that it clearly avoided the surface water during the day. This suggested that M. akrokomos may be a shade plankton with maximum densities below surface layer.

  • In this study, the distribution characteristics of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were investigated on the seasonal basis across spring, summer, and fall during the year of 1998. According to this analysis, most VOC species investigated exhibited strong temporal trends. Over diurnal scale, there distribution characteristics were affected by seasonal factors strongly. While they showed high day/night ratio pattern during spring, the pattern was reversed during fall. When the seasonal mean values were compared between the two seasons, the spring values were systematically higher than their counterparts in most cases. In addition when our VOC measurement date were compared with those reported from elsewhere, we were able to conclude that the VOC levels in the study area are comparable to the level weakly impacted by the regional emissions of VOCs. Although our data are not sufficient enough to systematically explain the atmospheric distribution and behavior of VOCs, the findings of strong correlations among some of VOC species suggests strong need for investigating their interactions in the earth\`s atmosphere.

  • This study focuses on the fauna, seasonal prevalence and altitudinal distribution of the flies from March to November, 2008 in Mt. Hallasan, Jejudo Island, Korea. The fauna of flies was 39 species belonging to 5 Families which consist of 12 Calliphoridae, 19 Muscidae, 5 Sarcophagidae, 1 Dryomyzidae 1, Scathophagidae and 1 Anthomyiidae. The total number of flies collected was 21,605 with sex ratio of 57.98% in Mt. Halla. The ratio is higher than that of the residential area and other mountain survey sites. The average number of per trap individuals collected on the trapping day is 267, which is similar with the average of Mts. Jiryong, Juwang, Palgong and Gumo. The five dominant species showed a distinctive seasonal prevalence of 92.6% of the total flies: Chrysomyia pinguis (34.2%), Calliphora lata (25.3%), Hydrotaea dentipes(23.1%), Fannia scalaris (5.1%), and Lucilia caesar (4.9%). The seasonal prevalence of the flies was from the beginning of March to the end of November, and the highest peak time of the whole flies, males and females were different respectively. In the similarity index of the flies collected in different altitude, that of between 1,000 meters and 1,500 meters was the highest among the indices of 500 meters and above 1,000 meters. The index at each altitude was above 80% because of the same area. The diversity index of fly species was between 0.00 and 0.88 through altitudinal traps monthly. The highest index in Trap 1 was 0.88 in October, in Trap 2, 0.82 in July and in Trap 3, 0.63 in July. The diversity above 1,000 meters was most various in July. The five dominant species of C. pinguis, C. lata, H dentipes, F. scalaris, and L. caesar showed distinctive seasonal prevalence, relative abundance and altitudinal distribution respectively.

  • The CTD data observed in the sea northwest of Cheju Island have been analyzed to figure out the seasonal circulation around Cheju Island. Warm and saline waters flow into the Yellow Sea through the middle region of the Yellow Sea in winter and along the west coast of Korean Peninsula in summer. On the other hand, cold and less saline waters flow out of the Yellow Sea through the middle region in summer and along the west coast of Korean Peninsula in winter. These flows make the seasonal circulation around Cheju Island. As dynamics, the monsoon wind and the variation of Kuroshio transport have been suggested. Comparing the observational result, the circulation driven by the variation of Kuroshio transport is strengthened by monsoon winds in the numerical model.

  • A study on the distribution and seasonal changes of the benthic macroinvertebrate community was performed on the 4 intertidal rocky shores of Biyang-do in Chehu Island throughout four seasons from January 1992 to january 1993. The macroinvertebrates composed of 8 phyla, 15 classes, 31 orders, 71 families, 168 species. The seasonal appearing species were 135 species in summer, 127 species in spring, 124 species in winter and 121 species in autumn, respectively. The dominant species of the upper zones were Nodilittorina exigua, Nerita japonica, Pollicipes mitella, the middle zones were Turbo coronata coreensis, Monodonta neritoides, petrolisthes japonicus and the lower zones were Pagurus samuelis, Chthamalus pilsbryi, Chlorostoma argyrostoma lischkei. The community dominance indices of the upper zones were much higher than the middle and lower zones. The seasonal appearnace in species in the lower zones were remarkable, but individual numbes were not. Species diversity and evenness in all investigated zones were highest in spring and lowest in winter. But species richness was highest in summer, lowest in autumm.
