A Simplified Method to Estimate Travel Cost based on Traffic-Adaptable Heuristics for Accelerating Path Search

  • In the telematics system, a reasonable path search time should be guaranteed from a great number of user's queries, even though the optimal path with minimized travel time might be continuously changed by the traffic flows. Thus, the path search method should consider traffic flows of the roads and the search time as well. However, the existing path search methods are not able to cope efficiently with the change of the traffic flows and to search rapidly paths simultaneously. This paper proposes a new path search method for fast computation. It also reflects the traffic flows efficiently. Especially, in order to simplify the computation of variable heuristic values, it employs a simplification method for estimating values of traffic-adaptable heuristics. The experiments are carried out with the $A^*$ algorithm and the proposed method in terms of the execution time, the number of node accesses and the accuracy. The results obtained from the experiments show that the method achieves very fast execution time and the reasonable accuracy as well.

  • Purpose Recently, there has been an increase in attempts to analyze social phenomena, consumption trends, and consumption behavior through a vast amount of customer data such as web search traffic information and social buzz information in various fields such as flu prediction and real estate price prediction. Internet portal service providers such as google and naver are disclosing web search traffic information of online users as services such as google trends and naver trends. Academic and industry are paying attention to research on information search behavior and utilization of online users based on the web search traffic information. Although there are many studies predicting social phenomena, consumption trends, political polls, etc. based on web search traffic information, it is hard to find the research to explain and predict tourism demand and establish tourism policy using it. In this study, we try to use web search traffic information to explain the tourism demand for major cities in Gangwon-do, the representative tourist area in Korea, and to develop a nowcasting model for the demand. Design/methodology/approach In the first step, the literature review on travel demand and web search traffic was conducted in parallel in two directions. In the second stage, we conducted a qualitative research to confirm the information retrieval behavior of the traveler. In the next step, we extracted the representative tourist cities of Gangwon-do and confirmed which keywords were used for the search. In the fourth step, we collected tourist demand data to be used as a dependent variable and collected web search traffic information of each keyword to be used as an independent variable. In the fifth step, we set up a time series benchmark model, and added the web search traffic information to this model to confirm whether the prediction model improved. In the last stage, we analyze the prediction models that are finally selected as optimal and confirm whether the influence of the keywords on the prediction of travel demand. Findings This study has developed a tourism demand forecasting model of Gangwon-do, a representative tourist destination in Korea, by expanding and applying web search traffic information to tourism demand forecasting. We compared the existing time series model with the benchmarking model and confirmed the superiority of the proposed model. In addition, this study also confirms that web search traffic information has a positive correlation with travel demand and precedes it by one or two months, thereby asserting its suitability as a prediction model. Furthermore, by deriving search keywords that have a significant effect on tourism demand forecast for each city, representative characteristics of each region can be selected.

검색 트래픽 정보를 활용한 고속도로 교통지표 분석 연구 (Analysis of Highway Traffic Indices Using Internet Search Data)

  • 2000년대 중반부터 인터넷 검색 트래픽을 활용한 다양한 연구가 진행되었다. 대표적으로 구글은 미국의 독감 발병 상황을 인터넷 유저의 검색 패턴을 통해 예측하는 서비스를 만들기도 하였다. 교통지표 역시 인터넷 검색 패턴과 유사할 수 있다는 가설을 확인하기 위하여, 검색 트래픽 데이터를 활용하여 고속도로의 진입 교통량과 구간 속도를 추정하는 모형을 구축하고 적합도 등을 확인하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 그 결과, 첫째, 출퇴근의 상시적 통행이 이루어지는 지점의 TCS 진입 교통량 모형은 구글 검색 트래픽이 입력변수로 우수하였고, 검색 트래픽과는 음의 상관관계를 보였다. 둘째, 여가 통행이 집중적으로 나타났던 지점의 TCS 진입 교통량 모형은 네이버의 검색 트래픽이 입력변수로 선정되었으며, 검색 트래픽과는 양의 상관관계가 나타났다. 셋째, VDS 속도의 경우 시계열 도표상 검색 트래픽과 음의 상관관계를 보였다. 넷째, 검색 트래픽을 입력변수로 활용한 전이함수 잡음 시계열 모형은 그렇지 않은 시계열 모형에 비해 비교적 적합도가 우수하다는 결과를 도출하였다. 다만, VDS 속도 모형의 경우 다수의 입력변수가 포함되고 모형 계수의 부호가 상이함에 따른 한계가 존재하였다. 향후 검색 트래픽의 출처나 검색어, 혹은 시차 및 집계 단위에 대한 추가적 연구가 진행된다면, 교통 분야의 빅 데이터 연구시 활용 폭이 넓어질 것으로 판단된다.

  • In this thesis, based on Genetic Algorithm, a new route search algorithm is presented to search an optimal route between the origin and the destination in intelligent route guidance systems in order to minimize the route traveling time. The proposed algorithm is effectively employed to complex road networks which have diverse turn constrains, time-delay constraints due to cross signals, and stochastic traffic volume. The algorithm is also shown to significantly promote search efficiency by changing the population size of path individuals that exist in each generation through the concept of age and lifetime to each path individual. A virtual road-traffic network with various turn constraints and traffic volume is simulated, where the suggested algorithm promptly produces not only an optimal route to minimize the route cost but also the estimated travel time for any pair of the origin and the destination, while effectively avoiding turn constraints and traffic jam.

Combined Traffic Signal Control and Traffic Assignment : Algorithms, Implementation and Numerical Results

  • Traffic signal setting policies and traffic assignment procedures are mutually dependent. The combined signal control and traffic assignment problem deals with this interaction. With the total travel time minimization objective, gradient based local search methods are implemented. Deterministic user equilibrium is the selected user route choice rule, Webster's delay curve is the link performance function, and green time per cycle ratios are decision variables. Three implemented solution codes resulting in six variations include intersections operating under multiphase operation with overlapping traffic movements. For reference, the iterative approach is also coded and all codes are tested in four example networks at five demand levels. The results show the numerical gradient estimation procedure performs best although the simplified local searches show reducing the large network computational burden. Demand level as well as network size affects the relative performance of the local and iterative approaches. As demand level becomes higher, (1) in the small network, the local search tends to outperform the iterative search and (2) in the large network, vice versa.

지리적 표시제에 대한 관심이 농산물 가격변화 예측에 미치는 영향 연구 : 사과를 사례로 (Influence of Interests in Geographical Indication on the Prediction of Price Change of Agricultural Product : Case of Apples)

  • Geographical Indication (GI) has been used with the expectation to influence customer buying behavior. In this research, we empirically investigate if such relationship exists using apple price changes in Korea along with web search traffic reflecting customers' interest in GI. The experimental results indicate that the apple price of the past, apple supply and web search traffic including GI name were significant on the prediction of price change of Chungju while web search traffic of regional name and that of product were significant for Cheongsong apples with GI. In Yeongcheon with no GI, the apple price of the past turns out to be significant only. The results indicated that interests in GI can help the price prediction but the regional name itself can play the same role, if the GI product is well known in association with the region.

웹 검색트래픽을 활용한 소비자의 기대주기 비교 연구: 네이버와 구글 검색을 중심으로 (A Comparative Study of Consumer's Hype Cycles Using Web Search Traffic of Naver and Google)

  • 신기술을 발견하고, 사회적 변화를 예측 설명하기 위해 여러 가지 형태의 기술 수명주기 모델이 개발되어 활용되어 왔는데, 그 중에서 가트너(Gartner)사가 소개한 기술 기대주기(hype cycle) 이론은 현장에서 자주 활용되고 있으며 그 효과를 인정받고 있다. 그러나 널리 통용되는 인기에 비해서 현재 연구 문헌에서는 이론적 프레임과 관계 및 실증에 대한 고려가 부족했다. 본 연구에서는 이런 기대주기모델의 새로운 실증적 측정 방법으로 제시된 웹 검색트래픽을 활용해 국내와 해외의 기대주기를 비교했다. 기존 연구에서 특정 제품이나 특정 국가에만 한정되었던 기대주기 분석을 검색트래픽을 활용해 비교 분석을 시도했다. 먼저 동일 제품에 대한 국가간 기대주기의 차이를 확인하기 위하여 검색트래픽과 신차판매점유율을 비교했는데, 국가간 기대주기의 유사성을 확인했으며, 통계적인 유의미성도 확인했다. 다음으로 동일 국간에서 제품간 기대주기의 차이를 확인하기 위하여 검색트래픽과 보급률을 비교해 보았는데, 역시 버블기의 정점 시기라는 측면에서 제품간 기대주기의 유사성도 확인했다. 본 연구는 검색트래픽을 활용한 사회현상 설명이나 기대주기 모델의 객관성과 설명력을 높이는데 크게 기여할 수 있으며, 나아가 마케팅 전략 수립과 같은 실질적인 기업전략 수립에까지 기여할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Implementation of Search Engine to Minimize Traffic Using Blockchain-Based Web Usage History Management System

  • With the recent increase in the types of services provided by Internet companies, collection of various types of data has become a necessity. Data collectors corresponding to web services profit by collecting users' data indiscriminately and providing it to the associated services. However, the data provider remains unaware of the manner in which the data are collected and used. Furthermore, the data collector of a web service consumes web resources by generating a large amount of web traffic. This traffic can damage servers by causing service outages. In this study, we propose a website search engine that employs a system that controls user information using blockchains and builds its database based on the recorded information. The system is divided into three parts: a collection section that uses proxy, a management section that uses blockchains, and a search engine that uses a built-in database. This structure allows data sovereigns to manage their data more transparently. Search engines that use blockchains do not use internet bots, and instead use the data generated by user behavior. This avoids generation of traffic from internet bots and can, thereby, contribute to creating a better web ecosystem.

A Quantitative Study on How Internet Search Ads Generate Consumer Traffic to Advertisers' Website

  • This study aims to measure the impact of these two variables on consumers' 'click-through' rates (the number of users that click on the ad compared to the number of times the ad is delivered). The result is as follows. First, search ads play a critical role in drawing consumers to advertisers' websites. Once search ads are placed, the number of visitors increased tenfold. Secondly, when search ads are keyed to highly-involved words such as 'IDC', 'hosting' and 'co-location', click-through rates significantly fluctuate according to the type of advertising message. In this case, consumers respond much more positively to ads highlighting credibility and product quality than to ads with emphasis on sales and events. Thirdly, the placement of search ads also matters. The ad placed first in the search list overpowers ads in the third or fifth place in terms of click-through rates. However, there was no significant difference of click-through rates between ads in the third place and ads in fifth. Lastly, when estimating which variable plays the bigger role in bringing traffic to advertisers' websites, consumers are more receptive to the substance of the advertising message than to its placement, under the circumstances of high involvement.

가변 휴리스틱 기반 추정치 간소화를 통한 경로탐색 기법의 설계 및 성능 평가 (A Design and Performance Evaluation of Path Search by Simplification of Estimated Values based on Variable Heuristic)

  • 텔레매틱스 시스템에서의 경로 탐색 기법은 교통흐름의 변화에 따라 최단 운행 시간을 갖는 최적 경로가 변하기 때문에 최단 시간 뿐 만 아니라 도로의 교통 흐름까지 고려해야 한다. 기존의 경로 탐색 기법들은 이러한 교통 흐름의 변화에 능동적으로 대처 할 수 없다. 또한 교통 정보를 이용하는 탐색 기법은 기존의 최단 경로 탐색 기법보다 연산 수행시간이 길다. 이 논문에서는 추정치 계산의 단순화를 통한 최적 경로 탐색 기법을 구현하고 성능을 평가한다. 제안한 기법은 교통흐름에 적응적인 휴리스틱을 위해 고정 그리드를 도입한다. 또한 추정치 계산을 간소화하기 위해 출발지와 목적지 사이의 기울기를 고려하여 실수의 곱셈 연산 대신 단계화 된 정수의 덧셈 연산을 한다. 제안한 알고리즘은 최적 경로 정확도 향상뿐만 아니라 탐색 시간을 줄어듦을 실험으로 입증한다.
