  • Is introducing ship automation system for the safety of ship and work environment mend recently. Is endeavoring for sea safety and fire at sea prevention solidifying control of standard technology and safety supervision aspect in IMO but sea accident and ship fire are happening continuously. Because using Robot in artistic talent of ship in this treatise, studied that correspond to Risk and manage.   • Marine accidents caused by ships are very diverse, such as collision, sinking, stranding, grounding and fire. In particular, persons on passenger ship are unspecified and not trained, so it makes evacuation harder. For this reason, an evacuation plan that considers diverse situation in ship is needed. Effective evacuation planning requires training in consideration of various evacuation situations. In this paper, we investigated the time elapsed on evacuation in various situations from "HANMIR," the fishery training ship of the Korean Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology, using a Ship Evacuation Analysis Program (SEA-Pro) which is introduced to the society. We assumed a situation that has not only inconveniences for real training but also the possibilities of happening. Not all trainees are resting in their cabin, so we assumed positions such as they are in the bridge or engine room and applied fire and flooding situations. We assumed that the time for alerting the situation would be short, so we applied only elapsed time of movement. Those analyses could be helpful in three ways. The first is predicting the consequence of possible accidents. There are some conditions that can be appliable to this model, such as the decreased area of sight in those situations. The second is concluding the optimal limit of carriage and placement of safety instruments on building a new ship. The third is to be a base data for ships to make a new effective evacuation plan based on these analyses.

A study on prediction of whipping effect of very large container ship considering multiple sea states

  • In the design stage of the very large container ships, some methodologies for the whipping effects have been developed, but most of them are based on single sea state. We developed a methodology that considers multiple sea states. Fluid-structure Interaction (FSI) analyses with one dimensional structural model were carried out to capture slamming-induced transient whipping behaviors. Because of the nature of random phases of the applied wave spectra, the required period for entire FSI analyses was determined from the convergence study where the whipping effect became stable. Low pass filtering was applied to the transient whipping responses to obtain the hull girder bending moment processes. Peak counting method for the filtered whipping responses was used to obtain collection of the vertical bending moment peaks. The whipping effect from this new method is compared with that from based on single sea state approach. The efficiency and advantage of the new methodology are presented.

  • This article summarizes the results of sea transportation load measurements, which will be used as the reference to the sea transportation environment condition for the launch vehicle of KSLV-I. KSLV-I will be transported by Sea from Pusan to the NARO space center in Gohung, Chunnam province. Since the vibration load condition during sea transportation is considered as one of the important design parameters of KSLV-I and its transportation means, it is necessary to directly measure the environmental condition of sea transportation loads prior to establish the sea transportation plan in detail. This material includes the measured data of 3-axis linear accelerations and 3-axis angular rates on the board of a barge-ship, which is towed by a tug boat during shipping operation. This barge-ship is same class with one which will actually carry KSLV-I. The results show that the measured load condition during sea transportation is not severer than the reference data of MIL-STD-810F and Zenit-3SL launch system.

Effects of Operational Condition and Sea States on Wave-Induced Bending Moments of Large Merchant Vessels (운항조건 및 해상상태가 대형 화물선의 파랑 중 굽힘모멘트에 미치는 영향)

  • For risk or reliability assessment of ship structures against particular hazardous situations such as total loss or sinking due to hull girder collapse, the short-term based response analysis rather than the long-term response analysis is required to determine wave-induced bending moments when the ship encounters a storm of specific duration and with a specified small encounter probability. In the present study, the effects of operational condition and sea states on wave-induced bending moments of large merchant vessels are investigated. A series of the short-term response analyses for a hypothetical VLCC and a Capesize bulk carrier (CSBC) are carried out with varying operational condition and sea states which include ship speed, significant wave height and wave persistence time, using the linear-strip theory based program ABS/SHIPMOTION and the MIT sea-keeping tables. The computed results are also compared with the IACS design formula predictions. The results and insights developed from the present study are summarized.

  • RIB(Rigid Inflatable Boat) is widely used for coastal transportation in the commercial use and for ISR(Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) in the military use. Since RIB is around 10 meters in length and over 30 knots in speed, its motion characteristics in waves is quite different from a large scale ship. When it turns, large roll occurs and heeling direction is opposite to the large ship's case. Currently, many countries are developing USV(Unmanned Surface Vehicle) of which type is RIB. In order to develop high performance autopilot and way point controller, it is very important to identify RIB's motion characteristics. In this paper, sea trial test results of a 7-meter RIB such as speed, turning, zig-zag, and way point control tests were represented and its resistance and propulsion model was identified by using sea trial data and Savitsky's formula. In addition, the state space model which will be used in the identification of the four-degree-of-freedom dynamics in the next step was formulated and the identification procedure was proposed.

  • In this paper, experiences obtained during the development of MASS(Noise Analysis of Ship-board using SEA) are described. The results are summarized as follows. (1) The modelling techniques for ship structure and cabins are suggested. (2) Structureborne and airborne noise for a real ship were measured at sea trial and predicted by NASS. The differences between the two values are acceptably small for the cabins located on higher decks, although problems related with modelling of lower decks and evaluation of radiation efficiency were found.

  • The first Korean-made icebreaking research vessel "ARAON" had her second sea ice trial in the Arctic Ocean in Aug. 2010 after her first voyage to Antarctic Ocean in Jan. 2010 to gather various material and strength characteristics of sea ice. This is a detail report of ARAON 2010 summer Arctic voyage and this paper describes a standard test procedure to obtain proper sea ice data which provide basic information to estimate ice loads and icebreaking performance of the ship. The data gathered from sea ice in the Chukchi Sea and Beaufort Sea during the Arctic voyage of the ARAON includes ice temperature/salinity and the compressive/flexural strength of sea ice. This paper analyses the gathered sea ice data in comparison with data from the first voyage of the ARAON during her Antarctic Sea ice trial.

  • Sea operation monitoring system is a system for the automatic ship operation that is used on the variety sea operations such as laying optical cables on the sea between the countries, laying cables on the seabed for a remote island, laying pipelines for the natural gas, and so forth. This system processes data which obtained through setting up environment and input from several sensors, and display GPS information with ENC data. And this system processes not only data of route file about sea operation, but also realtime information from PDA of client wirelessly connected with AP on wireless LAN. In addition, this system can improve efficiency of the operation as a result of enabling free movement within valid range. This paper design and implementation monitoring system from above appropriate to the embedded system, and improve competitive power of ship through prevention of a ship accident, to keep minimizing operation loads and support both the automatic ship operation and the safety voyage.

  • The wheelhouse front glass of a Fore-Bridge-Ship (Ro-Ro Ship) was broken by the shipping of water in rough seas, and then the flooding of seawater into the wheelhouse caused the uncontrollable condition of the ship. The hull which was entered into the floating condition rolled severely, and the heavy rolling caused secondary damage such as the collapse of a lot of cargo. It was an incredible accident because the height of bow freeboard was about 2.5 times higher than the standard height of minimum bow freeboard regulated by the International Load Line Convention(1966). And it would be also difficult for navigators to imagine a great deal of seawater flooding into the wheelhouse because the front glass was positioned at about 20m height above the sea surface. In this paper, we carried out the evaluation for the safety navigation of the Fore-Bridge-Ship numerically against ship's speed and encountering angle to the wave in each sea state of rough sea, by using the integrated seakeeping performance index (ISPI) which is able to evaluate synthetically the safety operation of ships. And then the problem on the application of the past criteria proposed as the safety navigation of a merchant ship was clarified by inquiring the dangerousness of the shipping of water at her bow deck, which caused the breakage of the wheelhouse front glass.
