This study aims to provide divers with improved safe diving practices by analyzing reports on scuba diving casualties that recently occured in Korea, Japan and USA. The result of this study should be notified to all the divers in Korea for the purpose of preventing the diving accident. All the data were collected through the diving accident reports of various sourses, which include KUA(Korea Underwater Association) technical committee, the accident statistical data of National Maritime Police Agency, articles of domestic and foreign scuba diving magazine, accident reports of various newspaper, annual report on decompression illness and diving fatalities by DAN(Diver Alert Network), various type of data on diving accident from local as well as national seminars, and medical treatment data of diving accident.

This study aims to analyze and compare the activating factors of domestic and overseas scuba diving resorts. Our delphi survey was conducted three times in 30 experts who involved in operation and management including scuba diving resort management representative and training team leader. As a result of comparing the activating factors at domestic versus overseas, it was found that common important activating factors included expansion of convenient facilities at public diving places, installation of safety and medical facilities for divers, development of first aid system including AED and oxygen ventilator, requirement of convenient facilities such as water lift and toilet in diving boat, installation of diving boat screw safety system, local boat operation guideline, regular course training program for scuba diving, employment of professional scuba diving instructor and guide, communication and promotion through various SNS portals, promotion by divers' word of mouth, involvement in regional Diving Resort Association, involvement in Korean Diving Association, communication and mutual benefit with local fishing villages, and linkage policy with local tourism industry.

The purpose of this study was to develop the pattern of scuba diving suits for local men in their thirties by using 3D body-scanned data. It is widely acknowledged that draping method is more suitable than flat pattern for body shape as most scuba diving suits in the market are designed to fit the body tightly in a single piece with sleeves and legs. A dummy for this study was made based on men's standard clothing sizes in 30's which was derived from data of 2004 Size Korea. Accordingly, the basic body block was built upon through draping method. Next, a scuba diving suit was made from neoprene, followed by fit and the clothing pressure tests in order to evaluate the diving suit's functionality and comfort. The results of the fit test had high points of 4.33 in majority parts except armhole and crotch ones. In comparison of clothing pressure between wearer and dummy, the clothing pressure of wearer was indicated relatively low in most parts other than armhole and knee, resulting from cushion function of skin and muscle and high stretch of fabric.

The data were collected through the diving accident reports of various sources, which include reports of the KUA (Korea Underwater Association) technical committee, the accident statistical data of Korea Coast Guard, articles of domestic and foreign scuba diving magazines, accident reports of various newspapers, annual reports on decompression illness and diving fatalities by DAN (Diver Alert Network), diving accident data reported to local and national seminars, and medical treatment data of diving accident. The analysis focused on the diving casualties and the result showed that the casualty rate in Korea was 2.8 and 2.2 times higher than those in Japan and USA, respectively.

This study is about the status and comparison of recreational scuba diving certification system in Southeast Asia countries. For the collection of the information, the contents of the numerous corresponding Internet sites were utilized, related documents were surveyed. And to supplement the information extensive interviews were held with the representatives of tourism department of many countries as well as staffs of diving associations, resort operators and diving instructors during various 2007 Dive Expos held in Southeast countries. In this paper, the relation between scuba certification and international standards were introduced for better understanding of the certification system. The research result shows that the scuba diving industry plays an important role in their country's tourism and the certification market of the Southeast Asia has grown to be greater than 30% of the world total market. However due to the facts that the scuba activity is originated from the western world and the controlling headquarters of the most certification agency are also located there, Southeast countries cannot take any leading roles in the scuba diving policies and systematic issues. Accordingly any modifications or improvements are expected to be very difficult. Also while Europeans and Americans have launched the programs and organizations for the quality assurance by cooperating with the international standards, but no such activity has yet appeared on the surface in Southeast Asia. According to the investigation the necessity will become bigger in near future.

As people have gained leisure time and become more interested in sports, various industries catering to these sports, including aquatic and underwater activities are growing. Many people are getting into scuba diving, where people can explore the sea at depths of more than 40-meters. Despite the increasing demand, there are limited studies on the sport. This study aims to provide basic research on materials suitable for developing technical scuba diving suits by analyzing several areas, such as design, material, sewing patterns, etc. The following trends were observed in all wetsuits: closure designs, ergonomic patterns, practical and functional details. Neoprene was the primary material of diving suits, and various functional materials were attached to the outer fabric or lining. The seam technique which minimized water contact and improved durability was sewing. Various techniques were also applied, such as flatlock stitching, GBS, LFS, etc. Subsequent studies shall investigate consumer preference etc. and other aspects, and continue to allow for the research and development of technical diving suits.

A new species of the genus Jaspis (Demospongiae: Astrophorida: Ancorinidae), Jaspis coreana n. sp., is described on the specimen collected from Geomundo Island, Korea during September 1995 to March 2002 by SCUBA diving. This new species is characterized by two sponges association which is completely covered with Poecilastra wondoensis except for oscules. This new species is similar to J. wondoensis in its spicules type, but different in their spicules size, form of oscules and sponge colour. J. coreana has a large oxyasters and longer megascleres than J. wondoensis, oscule cluster and golden yellow colour in life.

개인의 여가시간과 소득수준이 높아짐에 따라 해양 레저스포츠 활동이 활발히 진행되고 있으며, 그중 스쿠버 다이빙에 대한 관심과 참여도 계속 늘어나고 있는 추세이다. 하지만 스쿠버 다이빙은 물속에서 이루어지는 운동이므로 움직임에 제약이 크고 생명의 위험성이 높다. 이런 문제점을 해결하기 위해 가상으로 스쿠버 다이빙을 체험해 볼 수 있는 시뮬레이터가 필요하지만 이를 위한 체감형 수중 인터페이스에 대한 연구는 많이 부족한 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 스쿠버 다이빙 시뮬레이터를 제작하기 위해 해저 가상공간과 스쿠버 다이빙을 하드웨어 장비의 상호작용 인터페이스를 설계하였다. 제안방법은 스쿠버 다이빙에 사용되는 실제장비를 가상현실 시스템에 연동시킴으로서 체감형 스쿠버 다이빙 시뮬레이터의 현실감을 높일 수 있을 것이다.

The subtidal benthic algal communities of Dolsan-island in the southern coast of Korea were surveyed by means of SCUBA diving. The vertical zonation is recognized into three groups; upper, middle and lower subtidal zones. The representative species in each group throughout the year are Ulva pertusa, Codium fragile, Chondria crassicaulis and Gigartina tenera in the upper, Myagropsis myagroides and Sargassum tortile in the middle, and Plocamium telfairiae, Callophyllis japonica and Symphyocladia linearis in the lower zone. According to the normal association analysis by $2{\times}2$ contingency table and chi-square calculation among 29 quadrats, the algal communities are divided into 9 groups which are dominated by Sargassum tortile, Myagropsis myagroides, Chondria crassicaulis, Codium fragile, Pterocladia tenuis, Gigartina tenera, Gracilaria textorii. The thallus length and standing crops of Myagropsis myagroides show the highest value in spring and the lowest in summer.
