The carbon nanotube emitters for field emission displays were fabricated by using screen printing techniques. The pastes for screen printing are composed of organic binders, carbon nanotubes (multiwalled or singlewalled), and some additive materials. The pastes were printed on Cr-coated/Ag-printed soda-lime glass substrates. From the I-V characteristics, the turn-on field of SWNT was lower than that of MWNT. The decrease in the mesh size of screen masks (i.e. increase in the opening size of the screen mesh) resulted in decreasing the turn-on field and increasing the electron emission current. When the carbon nanotubes were mixed with silver pastes, silver powders appeared to contribute to the vertically aligning of carbon nanotubes on a glass.
Printing technologies were applied to fabricate a flexible organic thin-film transistor (OTFT) backplane for electrophoretic displays (EPDs). Various printing processes were adopted to maximize the figures of each layer of OTFT: screen printing combined with reverse offset printing for the gate electrodes and scan bus lines with Ag ink, inkjet for the source/drain electrodes with glycerol-doped Poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): Poly (styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), inkjet for the semiconductor layer with Triisopropylsilylethynyl (TIPS)-pentacene, and screen printing for the pixel electrodes with Ag paste. A mobility of $0.44cm^2/V$ s was obtained, with an average standard deviation of 20%, from the 36 OTFTs taken from different backplane locations, which indicates high uniformity. An EPD laminated on an OTFT backplane with $190{\times}152$ pixels on an 8-in panel was successfully operated by displaying some patterns.

Characteristics of piezoelectric thick films prepared by screen printing method were investigated. The piezoelectric thick films were printed using Pb(Mg,Nb)O$_3$-Pb(Zr,Ti)O$_3$system. The lower electrodes were coated with various thickness of Ag-Pd by screen printing to investigate the effect as a diffusion barrier and deposited with Pt by sputtering on Ag-Pd. The ceramic paste was prepared by mixing powder and binder with various ratios using three roll miller. The fabricated thick films were burned out at 650$^{\circ}C$ and sintered at 950$^{\circ}C$ in the O$_2$condition for each 20, 60min after printing with 350mesh screen. The thickness of piezoelectric thick film was 15∼20 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and the Ag-Pd electrode acted as a diffusion barrier above 3 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness. When the lower electrode Ag-Pd was 6 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and the piezoelectric thick films were sintered by 2nd step (650$^{\circ}C$/20min and 950$^{\circ}C$/1h) using paste mixed Pb(Mg,Nb)O$_3$-Pb(Zr,Ti)O$_3$$.$ MnO$_2$+ Bi$_2$O$_3$. V$_2$O$\_$5/ and binder in the ratio of 70:30, the remnant polarization of thick film was 9.1 ${\mu}$C /cm$^2$.

A development of disposable strip-type galactose sensor for point-of-care testing (POCT) was studied, which was constructed using screen-printed carbon electrodes. Galactose levels were determined by the redox reaction of galactose oxidase in the presence of potassium ferricyanide as an electron transfer mediator in a small sample volume (i.e., less than 1 µL). The optimal performance of biosensor was systematically designated by varying applied potential, operating pH, mediator concentration, and amount of enzyme on the electrode. The sensor system was identified as a highly active for the galactose measurement in terms of the sensitivity (slope = 4.76 ± 0.05 nA/µM) with high sensor-to-sensor reproducibility, the linearity (R2 = 0.9915 in galactose concentration range from 0 to 400 µM), and response time (t95% = <17 s). A lower applied potential (i.e., 0.25 V vs. Ag/AgCl) allowed to minimize interference from readily oxidizable metabolites such as ascorbic acid, acetaminophen, uric acid, and acetoacetic acid. The proposed galactose sensor represents a promising system with advantage for use in POCT.
An amperometric immunosensor for the determination of rabbit IgG is proposed. The immunoassay utilizes a screen-printed carbon electrode on which osmium redox polymer is electrodeposited. This immunoassay detects 0.1 ng/ml of rabbit IgG, which is ${\sim}10^2$ fold higher than the most sensitive enzyme amplified amperometric immunoassay. The assay utilizes a screen-printed carbon electrode which was pre-coated by a co-electrodeposited film of an electron conducting redox hydrogel and a rabbit IgG. The rabbit IgG in the electron conducting film conjugates captures, when present, the anti-rabbit IgG. The captured anti-rabbit-IgG is labeled with horseradish peroxidase (HRP) which catalyzes the two-electron reduction of $H_2O_2$ to water. Because the redox hydrogel electrically connects HRP reaction centers to the electrode, completion of the sandwich converts the film from non-electrocatalytic to electro-catalytic for the reduction of $H_2O_2$ to $H_2O$ when the electrode is poised at 200 mV vs. Ag/AgCl.
A disposable electrochemical immunosensor system has been developed for the detection of herbicide in aqueous samples. Disposable screen printed carbon electrodes(SPCE) were used as basic electrodes and an enzyme, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), and anti-herbicide antibodies was immobilised on to the working electrode of SPCE by using avidin-biotin coupling reactions. An herbicide-glucose oxidase conjugates have been used for the competitive immunoreaction with sample herbicides. The enzymatic reaction between the conjugated glucose oxidase and glucose added generates hydrogen peroxide, which was reduced by the peroxidase immobilised. The latter process caused an electrical current change, due to direct re-reduction of peroxidase by a direct electron transfer mechanism, which was measured to determine the herbicides in the sample. The optimal operational condition was found to be: $20\;{\mu}gl-1$ deglycosylated avidin loading to the working electrode and working potential +50 mV vs. Ag/AgCl. The total assay time was 15 min after sample addition. The detection limits for herbicides, atrazine and simazine, were found to be 3 ppb and 10 ppb, respectively.

Crystalline silicon solar cell is a semiconductor device that converts light into electrical energy. Screen printing is commonly used to form the front/back electrodes in silicon solar cell. Screen printing method is convenient but usually shows high resistance and low aspect ratio, which cause the efficiency decrease in crystalline silicon solar cell. Recently the plating method is applied in c-Si solar cell to reduce the resistance and improve the aspect ratio. In this paper, we investigated the effect of additional electroless Ag plating into screen-printed c-Si solar cell and compared their electrical properties. All wafers used in this experiment were textured, doped, and anti-reflection coated. The electrode formation was performed with screen-printing, followed by the firing step. Aften then we carried out electroless Ag plating by changing the plating time in the range of 20 sec~5 min and light intensity. The light I-V curve and optical microscope were measured with the completed solar cell. As a result, the conversion efficiency of solar cells was increased mainly due to the decreased series resistance.
We investigated the characteristics of electroless plated Cu films on screen printed Ag/Anodized Al substrate. Cu plating was attempted using neutral electroless plating processes to minimize damage of the anodized Al substrate; this method used sodium hypophosphite instead of formaldehyde as a reducing agent. The basic electroless solution consisted of $CuSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O$ as the main metal source, $NaH_2PO_2{\cdot}H_2O$ as the reducing agent, $C_6H_5Na_3O_7{\cdot}2H_2O$ and $NH_4Cl$ as the complex agents, and $NiSO_4{\cdot}6H_2O$ as the catalyser for the oxidation of the reducing agent, dissolved in deionized water. The pH of the Cu plating solutions was adjusted using $NH_4OH$. According to the variation of pH in the range of 6.5~8, the electroless plated Cu films were coated on screen printed Ag pattern/anodized Al/Al at $70^{\circ}C$. We investigated the surface morphology change of the Cu films using FE-SEM (Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy). The chemical composition of the Cu film was determined using XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy). The crystal structures of the Cu films were investigated using XRD (X-ray Diffraction). Using electroless plating at pH 7, the structures of the plated Cu-rich films were typical fcc-Cu; however, a slight Ni component was co-deposited. Finally, we found that the formation of Cu film plated selectively on PCB without any lithography is possible using a neutral electroless plating process.

Screen printing is commonly used to form the front/back electrodes in silicon solar cell. But it has caused high resistance and low aspect ratio, resulting in decreased conversion efficiency in solar cell. Recently the plating method has been combined with screen-printed c-Si solar cell to reduce the resistance and improve the aspect ratio. In this paper, we investigated the effect of light induced silver plating with screen-printed c-Si solar cells and compared their electrical properties. All wafers were textured, doped, and coated with anti-reflection layer. The metallization process was carried out with screen-printing, followed by co-fired. Then we performed light induced Ag plating by changing the plating time in the range of 20 sec~5min with/without external light. For comparison, we measured the light I-V characteristics and electrode width by optical microscope. During plating, silver ions fill the porous structure established in rapid silver particle sintering during co-firing step, which results in resistance decrease and efficiency improvement. The plating rate was increased in presence of light lamp, resulting in widening the electrode with and reducing the short-circuit current by shadowing loss. With the optimized plating condition, the conversion efficiency of solar cells was increased by 0.4% due to decreased series resistance. Finally we obtained the short-circuit current of 8.66 A, open-circuit voltage of 0.632 V, fill factor of 78.2%, and efficiency of 17.8% on a silicon solar cell.
