  • The reliability of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) particularly depends on the high quality of solid oxide electrolytes. The application of thinner electrolytes and multi electrolyte layers requires a more reliable characterization method. Most of the investigations on thin film solid electrolytes have been made for the parallel transport along the interface, which is not however directly related to the fuel cell performance of those electrolytes. In this work an array of ion-blocking metallic Ti/Au microelectrodes with about a $160{\mu}m$ diameter was applied on top of an ultrathin ($1{\mu}m$) yttria-stabilized-zirconia/gadolinium-doped-ceria (YSZ/GDC) heterolayer solid electrolyte in a micro-SOFC prepared by PLD as well as an 8-${\mu}m$ thick YSZ layer by screen printing, to study the transport characteristics in the perpendicular direction relevant for fuel cell operation. While the capacitance variation in the electrode area supported the working principle of the measurement technique, other local variations could be related to the quality of the electrolyte layers and deposited electrode points. While the small electrode size and low temperature measurements increaseed the electrolyte resistances enough for the reliable estimation, the impedance spectra appeared to consist of only a large electrode polarization. Modulus representation distinguished two high frequency responses with resistance magnitude differing by orders of magnitude, which can be ascribed to the gadolinium-doped ceria buffer electrolyte layer with a 200 nm thickness and yttria-stabilized zirconia layer of about $1{\mu}m$. The major impedance response was attributed to the resistance due to electron hole conduction in GDC due to the ion-blocking top electrodes with activation energy of 0.7 eV. The respective conductivity values were obtained by model analysis using empirical Havriliak-Negami elements and by temperature adjustments with respect to the conductivity of the YSZ layers.

  • It has reported that a median bus-stop island on an exclusive median bus lane (EMBL) has shortened a crossing distance unit, encouraged a pedestrian's illegal crossing, and increased the number of accidents in the area. This study presents (1) the analysis of inappropriate pedestrian crossing patterns collected on exclusive median bus corridors and (2) the estimated performance of safety barriers restraining the occurrence of those. Total 19,649 pedestrian crossing data collected at the 'Sookmyung-university' median bus-stop, and the inappropriate pedestrian crossing patterns among those were grouped in terms of time and space violations. Physical safety barriers restraining illegal pedestrian crossings were considered as an alternative, and its performance in safety was quantified through microscopic simulation with conflict analyses by using surrogate safety assessment model. The findings suggest the number of conflicts reduced be 24.9 percentages compared to the one of the present condition when the physical safety barriers are placed at each of the eight ends of the EMBL pedestrian crossing.

  • It is known that the incorporation of genes into transgenic mice is generally stable and is p passed on to succeeding generations in a Mendelian fashion. In this report, transgenic mice were set as a model to evaluate whether the transgenes are transmitted in a Mendelian principle in a successive generations and how they are tran s smitted into their offspring. A 3.0 kb linear DNA fragment, containing the MMTV LTR, bovine aSI casein cDNA and SV 40 splicing and polyadenylation site; was microinjected into fertilized mouse embryos. The tail DNAs of the resulting pups were subjected to dot and Southern hybridizations to screen transgenic founders. The DNAs of their offspring were anlyzed by PCR to confirm the transmission of the transgene from F0. Out of 72 live pups four pups (5.6%), 3 males and 1 female, were positive for the transgene. The rates of transmission from F0 into F1 were 33.3, 7.7, 0, and 62.5%. Those from F1 into F2 were 63.6, 5.9, and 68.8% and those from F2 into F3 were 85.7, and 88.2%. In this report, the transmission pattern of transgenes in transgenic mice into their offspring was demonstrated. It either follows or does not follow in a Mendelian fashion. Deletion or loss of the transgenes from F0 in some lines became apparant to the succeeding generations.

  • Biogenic amines are produced primarily by microorganisms found in fermented foods and are often implicated in poisoning incidents in humans. In this study, 620 strains of microorganisms were isolated from traditional Korean fermented food in Sunchang in order to screen for non-biogenicamine-producing microorganisms present in these foods. One strain was identified and named Bacillus subtilis SCJ1, by using 16S rRNA sequencing and biochemical characterization. We investigated the cell growth of this organism in order to understand its potential for industrial application. To this end, we optimized the culture medium constituents by using the response surface methodology. The Plackett-Burman experimental design was used for screening of the medium constituents, such as molasses, yeast extract and peptone, for improving cell growth. In order to determine the optimal concentration of each constituent, we used a central composite design. Consequently, the optimized concentrations of molasses, yeast extract and peptone were predicted to be 27.5 g/l, 7.5 g/l and 17.5 g/l, respectively. By model verification, we confirmed that a 1.49-fold increase in dry cell weight compared to the basal medium-from 1.32 g/l, to 1.9722 g/l-was achieved.

  • This study is aimed to investigate the association between web-based visual stress and MBTI personality types. The stressor deriving visual stress is built by 14 vowels out of Korean alphabet as a content and parallel striples as a background on the screen, which is given to each subject during 5min. The dependent variable indicating how much human takes visual stress is the reduction rate of flicker fusion frequency, which is evaluated with visual flicker fusion frequency tester. The independent variables are gender and 8 MBTI personality types(E-I, S-N, T-F, and J-P), and hypotheses are based on human information processing model and previous studies. The results address that the reduction rate is not significantly affected by gender, S-N, and J-P, but E-I and T-F have significant influences on it. The reduction rate in I-type is almost 2 times as much as that in E-type and T-type has the rate 2.2 times more than F-type. This study can be applicable to determine the adequate personnel for jobs requiring less sensibility to visual stressors in areas that human error may lead to critical damages to an overall system.

  • In a time when product development cycles are getting shorter and shorter, many companies are making efforts to develop products with high reliability in a short period of time, accelerated life test is widely used as a method to quickly evaluate reliability. Accelerated life test reduces the test life or the life of the product from the observed data by shortening the lifetime of the product or abruptly lowering the performance under the worse condition than the actual condition in order to shorten the test cost or the test time. In this paper, BL3640A-06P+RB35, DC12V model, which is used in the support device of an automatic rotation type digital signage, which display various information such as textures and images on a display screen in a public place or a commercial space, BLDC motors were subjected to a constant stress test and at the rotational speed of 1rpm, $180^{\circ}$ rotation and reverse rotation under actual use conditions, the stress was imposed on the rotating speed of 2rpm and the weight of the actual installed product from 22.2kgf to 10kgf were installed. The lifetime of the actual use environment condition is 23,545 hours and the rotation speed is accelerated. The life time of the acceleration condition with the additional weight is 1,380 hours. The acceleration factor is calculated as 17.06, the one year guarantee test day is 235 days to 14 days, of the period from 470 days to 28 days, and the third year from 704 days to 42 days. The test date of the BLDC motor was tested on the shortened test date, and the rotational speed and the current value were measured. It is found that there is no defect even if it operates as the test date corresponding to the specified one year warranty period and the 3 year accelerated life test which is experimented. Using the statistical technique of the regression analysis the expected time for the motor to defect to #4 samples was 20 years.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the home care needs in a rural county as a basic study to develop a Korean home care model. A stratified cluster sampling method was used to select 1, 352 household which accounted for 8.8% of Youn Cheon County population. A Standard criterias for home care subject were delineated by five nursing professors representing five different areas of nursing specialty. The developed criteria for home care subjects were as below, 1) Patients who had been discharged from hospital during the previous week. 2) Patients with special medical devices 3) Newborns and the mothers. 4) The chronically ill with poor recovery or control of disease. 5) Subjects with poor health care behavior or ability 6) Subjects with poor social support and / or family resources. 7) Subjects with health related educational needs. Three types of questionnaires were developed to screen home care subjects, one for adults, one for infants and one for the elderly. Also different questionnaire items were developed to evaluate the control and self care ability of chronically ill subjects. After training in interview methods for 2 days, 39 interviewers visited individual households for interviews. As the results of the study showed that 14.1% of adult subjects and 76.5% of infants and child were judged as having at least one criterion related to home care need, 15.69% of adults and 53% of elderly had at least one chronic illness. The most prevalent chronic illnesses were hypertension, skeletal-neurological disease and diabetes. The prevalence of subjects with home care needs were, those with poor health care behavior(8.89%), with health-re-lated educational needs(8.71%), with poor recovery or control of disease (3.52%), and with poor social support and inadequate family resources(3.19%). There were only 0.3%, 0.37%, 0.11% who were discharged patients, patients with medical devices, or newborns respectively. Thus, the largest home care client group were those who need direct health care and health education. Seventy five percent of the subjects responded that they were willing to use and pay for home care service if it is offered in the future. It is suggested that recently discharged patients and patients with special medical devices can be cared for by hospital based home care nurses, but other home care clients can be cared for by com-munity based home care nurses.

  • This paper presents the user needs analysis and information visualization for the development of a semantic-based national R&D information navigation service in information service planning phase, which converges and fuses NDSL databases and NTIS databases. To investigate and analyze the user needs for improving usability, we make an improvement plan for R&D information services via a survey targeted at 30 persons, and on-site interviews targeted at 12 persons, almost of who are researchers in industries, universities and government-funded institutes. To design new information visualization service, we propose an interactive national R&D information visualization service, which is provided in navigation type, and prescribe persona and screen prototyping according to the user needs analysis. We design the national R&D information convergence/fusion architecture based on the NDSL databases, including 345,411 academic articles, 620,555 co-authors and 49,958 reports and NTIS databases including 187,466 national R&D projects. We expect that the national R&D information convergence/fusion architecture contributes to R&D information convergence/fusion as a leading model/standard and the interactive navigation-typed information visualization service strengthens usability continuously.

  • In this study, for the safe use of a portable ultrasonic skin-beauty device, an android app was developed to show the irradiation locations of focused ultrasound to a user through augmented reality (AR) and enable stable self-surgery. The utility of the app was assessed through testing. While the user is making a facial treatment with the beauty device, the user's face and the ultrasonic irradiation location on the face are detected in real-time with a smart-phone camera. The irradiation location is then indicated on the face image and shown to the user so that excessive ultrasound is not irradiated to the same area during treatment. To this end, ML-Kit is used to detect the user's face landmarks in real-time, and they are compared with a reference face model to estimate the pose of the face, such as rotation and movement. After mounting a LED on the ultrasonic irradiation part of the device and operating the LED during irradiation, the LED light was searched to find the position of the ultrasonic irradiation on the smart-phone screen, and the irradiation position was registered and displayed on the face image based on the estimated face pose. Each task performed in the app was implemented through the thread and the timer, and all tasks were executed within 75 ms. The test results showed that the time taken to register and display 120 ultrasound irradiation positions was less than 25ms, and the display accuracy was within 20mm when the face did not rotate significantly.

  • This choice experiments study values the non-market benefits of water quality improvements in Paldang Reservoir and Han River, located in Korea. A fractional factorial orthogonal design was used to produce four different choice sets per respondent, before employing choice examples to screen out irrational responses. The panel mixed logit model (with normal distributions for the attributes) fit the data best, indicating that allowing for both heterogeneous preferences across households and correlation between repeated choices may represent actual choice behaviors best of all the estimated models. The significant standard deviations of the random attributes suggest that the taste for each attribute may vary considerably in the population. The annual benefits to the Seoul Metropolitan area for a small (large) enhancement of the clarity of water, a gradual removal of unpleasant waters, and a gradual improvement in biodiversity, were estimated to be some 1.5 trillion (1.7 trillion) Won, 2 trillion Won, and 1.7 trillion Won, respectively, with 1.8~2.6 trillion Won for at least two of them occurring together. The study also discusses potential biases germane to choice experiments studies of this type.
