  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to assess the reducing effect of workload on developed electro-motion scissors. Methods: To achieve this, we measured the pressure distribution, Joint angle of fingers and JSI(Job Strain Index) for electro-motion scissors and hand-operated scissor in objective assessment and surveyed the uncomfortable degree in subjective assessment. Results: As a result, The peak of pressure in the electro-motion scissors was generally lower than the hand-operated scissors. JSI and overall joint angle of fingers for the electro-motion scissors were remarkably lower than the hand-operated scissors. Also, the subjective uncomfortable degree showed that the uncomfortable point of electro-motion scissors were generally lower than the hand operated scissors. Conclusion: The impact of reducing the work load as well as distributing the pressure around the hand by using electro-motion scissors during grapes pinching was confirmed.

  • A scissors bite in the posterior teeth occurs when the upper teeth are positioned totally or unilaterally buccal to the lower teeth in centric occlusion. This malocclusion can result from either excessive width of maxilla, deficient width mandible, or combination of both. The malocclusion can lead to hindered growth of jaws or to asymmetry between the jaws, Besides, the severe lingual inclination of the mandibular posterior teeth prevents adequate mastication. Thus, the scissors bite is in need of immediate interceptive orthodontic intervention. The common treatments of the scissors bite is to expand the mandibular arch: fixed or removable appliances. In our clinic, we made a success in treatment of the scissors bite using the Schwarz appliance. We treated the scissors bite using the lower Schwarz appliance for a mean observation period of 21 months. The subjects were 2 boys, aged 4 years.

  • Recently, the interest in the smart buildings is increasing in the architecture field. Among them, a research of facade design using a transformable system that can adjust the effect of the external environment is in progress. One of a typical example of the deployable system is a Scissors system that can change shape by using the geometric conditions of a unit member. Scissors system is a high-tech structural system which can construct the deployable plan and curved space by using the SLE (Scissors-Like Element) consisted of two Bar and Pivot. If the facade is designed by applying Scissors system, it is possible to maximize the performance and aesthetic effect of the structure by using a shape change of the line member. This paper presents a study of deployable facade design applying hybrid-typed Scissors system. A new deployable pattern of facade design is developed by combining Angulated Scissors system and tessellation pattern. Applying the deployable pattern a double skin construction method which is to add an outer wall for design, it raises three dimensional effects and can maximize the artistic essence of the change in shape upon deployment.

  • A scissors bite in the posterior teeth occurs when the upper teeth are positioned totally buccal to the lower teeth in centric occlusion, either unilaterally or bilaterally. This malocclusion can result from either excessive width of the maxilla or deficient width of the mandible, or sometimes combination of the both. Scissors bite, when left untreated without a proper dental intervention, interferes with the normal mandibular growth leading to a state where consequent disharmony in dental arch width evokes occlusal disturbances. Therefore, early preventive orthodontic treatment is necessary in patients with scissors bite. Scissors bite rarely involves anterior and posterior sites concuttently across the dental arch but usually affect single tooth. Even in the single tooth scissors bite cases, more likely to be met in the clinical fields, immediate dental intervention is indicated because continuous occlusal forces that exacerbate the already adverse axis of the posterior teeth. In this case study, patients with single tooth scissors bite, each 7, 14, 12, and 16 years old, were each treated with criss-cross elastic, fixed appliance, removable appliance, and miniscrews. With the proper selection of appliances appropriate to each specific cases, good treatment outcome can be achieved without resulting any side effects.

  • In many sports games, we would use a coin or the game of scissors-paper-stone to decide which side will begin first. We consider the game of scissors-paper-stone when two teams are composed of N respectively. We continue the game of scissors-paper-stone until the winner of the two team is decided. Using sample spaces and enumerating the elements we calculated the mean number of the game when N = 1, N = 2 and N = 3. In case of N = 1 and N = 2, we simulate the game and find the mean and variance when the repetition number n = 20; 30; 50; 100; 150; 200.

  • This clinical report describes an orthodontic-prosthodontic interdisciplinary treatment for a patient with multiple missing teeth and unilateral scissors bite. A 47-year-old female presented with multiple missing posterior teeth, anterior large overjet, deep bite, and posterior scissors bite on the right premolar area. Periodontal therapy was performed and followed by orthodontic treatment. The maxillary anterior teeth were initially aligned, then two implants were placed for the left mandibular molars to increase occlusal vertical dimension. The scissors bite between the right maxillary and mandibular premolars were corrected using the miniscrews as an anchorage. Other implants were placed for the right maxillary and mandibular molars after the occlusal planes and occlusal relationship were harmonized. The patient adapted well to altered vertical dimension without any specific problems including peri-implant marginal bone loss. Interdisciplinary approach resolve the complex orthodontic-prosthodontic problems and concluded in successful results.

  • A segmented scissors type switch has been developed for the urban transit maglev demonstration line to be commercialized near Incheon International Airport in 2013. Based on the design of the previous segmented 3-way switch, the scissors switch is composed of four segmented 2-way switches up/down and left/right and a turn table in the mid point. The main function of the scissors switch is to change the running direction of the train at end terminals. The developed scissors switch is planned to be installed in front of the 102 station, which has a side platform, of the demonstration line. The total length of the switch is 65m and the distance between the up and down track centerlines is 6m. The 2-way switches and turn table are made of steel box type beams, and have their own driving unit, locking unit, control unit, levitation and propulsion rails, and so on. Installed in the factory, a 100,000-cycle continuous operation test was carried out after manual and automatic test operations. The applicapability of the developed switch was verified through the measurements of the linearity of the track after repetitive operations, the mechanical operation noise, the load of the main driving motor, the safety of the control panel, the natural frequency of the girder, the deformation of the girder, and so on.

  • In scissors deployable structure which could be easily removed by folding it, a method of curvature variation in the profile and the structural characteristics were examined. At first, the relation between the profile curvature and a eccentricity of joint in scissors members is presented by a formula and a graph. And then, the structural characters of scissors members with the curvature variation are presented by analysing a several models based on this relation. Also, a real modeling study is achieved in accordance with this composition method and the possibilities to be developed with the expected profile shape was examined.

  • We would use a coin or a game of Rock-Paper Scissors before the a main game to determine which team will begin first. We can use the game of Rock-Paper Scissors to choose one of two or one of many. There can be many rules in a game of Rock-Paper Scissors between two teams and two teams may consist of a different number of players. In this paper, we find the means and variances of the total number of games till the winning team is decided according to different game rules.

  • The program for the development of linkage system was made and the scissors-type linkage system was designed. The piston temperature distribution under steady state was measured by the linkage system and thermocouple. The effects of engine speed, coolant outlet temperature, and torque on the piston temperature were investigated.
