  • The aim of the present study is to analyze the present state and evolution of scientific research with regard to the scientific production generated on Facebook. Good analysis proves challenging due to the large number of publications about the topic. That is why we concentrate on Scopus as the information service with the highest coverage on this topic. We performed a bibliometric analysis on Facebook-related research from 2005 to 2016. We identified publication output, subject areas, journals, and countries in order to assess the publication trends and research hotspots in this field. Moreover, an author network graph and a geo map were applied to visualize some research trends. These results provide a basis for better understanding of the development of global Facebook research.

  • This paper deals with new realizations of research, scientific development, managerial and economic optimizations for prefabricated building systems. In the literature, all scientific fields are worked out based on the efficiencies, costs, benefits, choice of execution design, technical demands, aesthetical point of view, as well as the total economics. In the present example of a school-building for communities in the third world, the following criteria have been regarded: The optimal superstructure of prefabricated concrete building systems; the particularity of countries of the Third World (e.g. the climate, the political and the economic conditions); the time for construction and necessary innovative developments for an economically optimized superstructure. Added to this are alternative construction-methods and costs for a simple but variable system which can be adapted to changing functions, where variability should be the main point. For example, a school building that is to be adapted by varying number of rooms to cater for the growing number of pupils.

  • This study analyzes gender bias in children's informational books about science and science careers to determine how these early resources are affecting the disparity between males and females in science and engineering fields. The study focused on the number of male and female scientists both in pictures and text, and how much space was devoted to discussion of scientists of each gender. Overall, the findings of the study show that only 18% of the pictured scientists were female as well as only 16% of the scientists discussed in the text. These numbers are below current industry data that puts the number of females working in science and engineering fields at 26%.

  • We are at the initial performance-verification phase of our KMTNet Supernova Project (KSP) using the three wide-field telescopes of the KMTNet in the southern hemisphere. The primary science objectives of KSP, which take advantage of its unique 24-hour continuous sky coverage, are to study early (i.e., within a few hours from explosion) and rare/peculiar (e.g. fast decay) supernovae (SNe), SN progenitors, explosion mechanisms, as well as other exotic optical transients. We present the initial status/results of the program, along with the program strategy, science objectives, target fields, and future plan. While the target field selection will be made based on the performance of the system and consideration of various scientific merits, the initial target fields are focused on nearby galaxies with increased cadence and filter coverage.

  • Currently, in Korea, all lengths are written in "meter" unit, and the non-statutory measuring units are banned for use. However, in some fields, traditional measuring units are widely used with necessary modifications, and people in such fields raise varying arguments on conversion to "meter" unit. This research examines traditional measuring units from historical and cultural viewpoints, and provides suggestions on how to improve consistency and standardization for more accurate and effective exchangeof scientific opinions.

  • Based on classification systems of power and IT standard dictionaries, scientific and technological standard, SPARK, power IT fields of IEC and organization units of corporations, we propose a new classification system for the standardization of power of terminologies. The classification system consists of a hierarchical structure with general classification, application fields and specific technologies while keeping the conventional matrix-type classification system. Interpretation work of the power of terminologies confirms that the proposed classification system is efficient.

  • This paper is an inquiry into the patterns of technological innovation of bio - industry in Korea in comparison with the worldwide patterns. In another words, this study wants to check whether the patterns of technological innovation of bio - industry in Korea differ front those in advanced countries or not. The comparison is based on the theory of science - based industry asserted by Seol (2001) and Cho (2001). There are no specific difference in the patterns of technological innovation such as science - based innovation, capitalization of science, industries leading by scientific fields, the importance of venture firms for commercialization, high level of R&D expense to sales. Also the order of fields by size is similar to worldwide patterns. But the size of microbiology is bigger than that of worldwide patterns. The strength in microbiology may be the country specific features of Korea, like platform technology of Germany.

On Promotion of Wearing Hanbok for the Modernization of Traditional Costumes

  • This paper starts with the assumption that in order for hanbok to be made known to the world as a cultural code representing Korean beauty, it must first be made familiar among Koreans with opportunities for widespread use of hanbok in a way which forms an understanding with the fashion sense of young generations, and that wearing hanbok must be promoted. We observe the contents and problems of past hanbok festivals and provide methods to promote the wearing of hanbok among the population, creating an occasion for mingling with various cultures in hanbok events which may be experienced by the general population, and developing hanbok as a tourist item and promoting the hanbok industry through standardized hanbok festivals. Globalization of hanbok most occur through a combination of related academic fields, division of roles in fields of expertise, and a scientific understanding of hanbok. The re-creating of traditional hanbok will allow for affirmation of Korean image, a rediscovery of the value of Korean culture, and the establishment of cultural identity. The development of such global designs will form a foundation for hallyu wave culture within popular culture.

  • Few mathematical methods attracted theoretical and applied researches, both in the scientific and humanist fields, as the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) made throughout the last century. However, most of these fields often developed POD in autonomous ways and with different names, discovering more and more times what other scholars already knew in different sectors. This situation originated a broad band of methods and applications, whose collation requires working out a comprehensive viewpoint on the representation problem for random quantities. Based on these premises, this paper provides and discusses the theoretical foundations of POD in a homogeneous framework, emphasising the link between its general position and formulation and its prevalent use in wind engineering. Referring to this framework, some applications recently developed at the University of Genoa are shown and revised. General remarks and some prospects are finally drawn.
