Global map of science, which is visualizing large scientific domains, can be used to visually analyze the structural relationships between major areas of science. This paper reviewed previous efforts on global science map, and then tried to making a science map of Korea with some new methods. There are several research groups on making global map of science including Dr. Small and Dr. Garfield of ISI (now Thompson Scientific), SCImago research group at the University of Granada, and Dr. Borner's InfoVis Lab at the Indiana University. They called their maps as science map or scientogram and called the activity of mapping science as scientography. Most of the previous works are based on citations between scientific articles. However citation database for Korean journal articles is still under construction. This research tried to make a Korean science map with the text in the proposals suggested for funding from Korean Research Foundation. Two kinds of method for generating networks of scientific fields are used. One is Pathfinder network (PFNet) alogorithm which has been used in several published bibliometric studies. The other is clustering-based network (CBnet) algorithm which was proposed recently as an alternative to PFNet. In order to take into account both views of the two algorithms, the resulting maps are combined to a final science map of Korea.
With the recent slowdown of R&D budget growth rate, efficient resource allocation, operation and management of national R&D is becoming more important. At this point, recognizing the necessity of systematic and scientific research on the national R&D itself, this study analyzed previous researches on national R&D of Korea. In this study, based on the previous researches and laws, national R&D was classified according to the major stages such as planning, selection, management, performance and so on. Secondly, by using the classification criteria forged, previous researches on the national R&D published in domestic journals for the last 5 years were divided into 12 categories, and the status of researches in each field was analyzed. Lastly, through network analysis, linking status and influence of each fields were identified by using co-classification information of research literatures. As a result of this research, the performance related fields were the most active ones in terms of the number of research literatures, and connections with other fields, while the fields such as selection and infrastructure were lacking in the number of research and linkage. This study can find its meaning in identifying research fields that need more studies and connections with other areas by systematic analysis of previous studies on Korean National R&D.

Purpose: With the increasing national interest in health, the number of health examination centers is growing rapidly, and it is growing as independent medical institutes separated from hospitals. With the growing functions and size of health examination institutes, considerations for testees, who are the most important users of the health examination centers, have taken the back seat. In particular, for health examination programs that take on a sequential traffic line, it is important to be aware of the space of each examination room, but the lack of a scientific evaluation method for this has resulted in great discomforts for testees using the health examination center. Method: Thus, this study proposes risk evaluation indices (RCF TCF, RC3, RR, ARR), and set a standard health examination program based on the national health examination program. This was applied to 11 different sized health examination centers to find their features, and together with identifying the trends of the indices, the following results were deduced. Result: 1) ARR showed a wide-range feature as the number of unit spaces increased, while RR were discovered regardless of the size, thus displaying local features. 2) The increase of ARR is affected more by internal factors in the health examination center than from outside factors. 3) By gender, when separating the basic health examination fields, the connective relation of the comprehensive health examination fields had a big effect on ARR. 4) By becoming larger, the fields of function become independent and the waiting space that results from it increases the number of total movement, so there is space for improvement in this.

A survey of weed occurrence was conducted to identify problematic weed species in a horticultural crop field to get basic information for effective weed control. Surveys of weed species occurring in horticultural crop fields (garlic, onion, red pepper and Chinese cabbage) were conducted in Chungnam province of Korea from April to October in 2014. A total of 516 sites of the 17 regions were identified as having 114 weed species belonging to 32 families. The most dominant weed species in the horticultural crop fields were Chenopodium album var. centrorubrum (8.83%), followed by Digitaria ciliaris (5.71%), Conyza canadensis (5.46%) and Capsella bursa-pastoris (4.67%). Specifically, as a result of this study, the occurrence of 35 species of exotic weeds, such as Chenopodium album and Taraxacum officinale, were confirmed. Almost 68% of the investigation sites was determined under dominance value 1 (range of cover < 10; numerous individuals) by Braun-Branquet cover-abundance scale, indicating a proper weed control in horticultural crop field. As a result of scientific and technological advances, an improved cultivation method is changing the weed occurrence in agricultural land. Additional research needs to be undertaken for the development of weed control methods through such periodic monitoring of occurrence of weeds.
We present a study of citizen science performed at Korean Minjok Leadership Academy (KMLA). The importance of citizen involvements in scientific studies has been increasing, with remarkable results and performances. For instance, the discovery of an impact scar near Jupiter's south polar region (A. Wesley, 2009) led to an international campaign of professional observations to understand the asteroidal collision responsible for the scar. Citizen science at KMLA has been and will be mainly conducted by members of the astronomical observation club 'Apple-Pie' through amateur telescopes. Members of 'Apple-Pie' are specialized in various fields related to astronomy, from planetary science to cosmology. The spectrum not only includes fields that are directly related to astronomy but also fields such as computer science and astrophotography. The scheduled construction of a new observatory will further enable students to participate in higher level projects such as planetary monitoring over long timescales and the observation and detection of solar system bodies and exoplanets. In addition, a new supervisor with expertise and research experience in galactic astronomy, planetary science, and meteorology has joined the school faculty. He will supplement students with fundamental theoretical backgrounds and essential research techniques to enhance astronomical research at KMLA. KMLA's ultimate goal is to deploy a remote-controlled observatory available to aspiring scientists around the world to create a network of citizen science system. The prime observational conditions of KMLA and the willingness of the students and faculty members will provide a competitive edge for KMLA over other similar institutes in Korea.

Recently, supercomputer has been increasingly adopted as a computing environment for scientific simulation as well as education, healthcare and national defence. Especially, supercomputing system with heterogeneous computing resources is gaining resurgence of interest as a next-generation problem solving environment, allowing theoretical and/or experimental research in various fields to be free of time and spatial limits. However, traditional supercomputing services have only been handled through a simple form of command-line based console, which leads to the critical limit of accessibility and usability of heterogeneous computing resources. To address this problem, in this paper, we provide the design and implementation of web-based HPC (High Performance Computing) job management framework for computational scientific simulation. The proposed framework has highly extensible design principles, providing the abstraction interfaces of job scheduler (as well as bundle scheduler plug-ins for LoadLeveler, Sun Grid Engine, OpenPBS scheduler) in order to easily incorporate the broad spectrum of heterogeneous computing resources such as cluster, computing cloud and grid. We also present the detailed specification of HTTP standard based RESTful endpoints, which manage simulation job's life-cycles such as job creation, submission, control and status monitoring, etc., enabling various 3rd-party applications to be newly created on top of the proposed framework.
This study begins with a question about research methods in humanities. It is grounded in the humanities, focusing on the changes that have brought light and darkness to the humanities, and focusing on discourse regarding research methods that explore those changes. If the role of the humanities is to prevent the proverbial "gray rhino," unlike the sciences, and if the humanities have a role to play in moderating the uncontrollable development of the sciences, what kind of research methods should humanities pursue. Furthermore, what kind of research methods should be pursued in the humanities, in line with the development of the sciences and the changing environment? This study discusses research methods in the humanities as follows: first, in Section 2, I advocate for the collaboration between humanities and scientific methods, utilizing accumulated assets produced by humanities and continuously introducing scientific methods. Prediction of change is highly precise and far-reaching in engineering and the natural sciences. However, it is difficult to approach change in these fields in a macro or integrated manner. Because they are not precise, they are not welcome in disciplines that deal with the real world. This is primarily the responsibility of humanities. Where science focuses on precision, humanities focuses on questions of essence. This is because while the ends of change have varied throughout history, the nature of change has not varied that much. Section 3 then discusses the changing environment, proposals for changes to humanistic research methods, reviews and proposals inductive change research methods, and makes some suggestions for humanistic change research. The data produced by the field of humanities accumulated by humankind in the past is abundant and has a wide range of applications. In the future, we should not only actively accept the results of scientific advances but also actively seek systematic humanistic approaches and utilize them across disciplinary boundaries to find solutions at the intersection of scientific methods and humanistic assets.

Polymer blending constitutes a most useful method for the improvement or modification of the physicochemical properties of polymeric materials. So polymer blends have gained an increasing interest in both industrial and scientific fields. Some of the polymer blends exhibit unusual properties, unexpected from homopolymers. An important property of a polymer blend is the miscibility of its component, because it affects the mechanical properties, the morphology, its permeability and dogradation [1,2]. (omitted)
Microbes and their toxins can be bioweapons that bioterrorists use them to commit bioterrorism and biocrime. Due to the potential and relative ease of the bioattack, life-threat pathogenic agents (bacteria, viruses, and toxins) as bioweapon revealed the need for a new field of microbial forensics. Microbial forensics is a new scientific discipline combining microbiology and forensic science, which is focused on characterization of evidence from a bioterrorism, biocrime, and an inadvertent release of biothreat agents. The sophisticated analytical tool and knowledge of microbial forensics can provide investigative leads and help determine who was responsible for the biocrime, the source of the bioweapon, and how and where the bioweapon was produced. Among the fields of microbial forensics, this paper will briefly describe evidence collection, handling, packaging, transportation, storage, analytical methods of evidence, and review microbial forensics as a response to bioterrorism and biocrime.
