탐색을 강조한 순환학습이 초등학생들의 과학학습 동기 및 과학적 태도에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Learning Cycle Emphasized Exploration on Elementary School Students' Science Learning Motivation and Scientific Attitude)

  • The purpose of this study was to see the influences of science class applying learning cycle emphasized exploration on science learning motivation and scientific attitude of elementary students. The results drawn from this analysis were as below. Firstly, positive relationship was found between science learning motivation and science class applying learning cycle emphasized exploration among the research group. This shows that science learning motivation was improved by science class applying learning cycle emphasized exploration. It indicates that science class applying learning cycle emphasized exploration is effective in improving science learning motivations. Secondly, positive relationship was found between scientific attitude and science class applying learning cycle emphasized exploration among the research group and this means that science class applying learning cycle that emphasizes exploration stimulates intellectual curiosity of elementary school students and improves their scientific attitude. Thirdly, students thought that science class applying learning cycle emphasized exploration was very effective to improve their satisfaction, interest, participation in their science classes. Above results show that science class applying learning cycle emphasized exploration is highly effective for elementary students. Thus, it is needed to utilize science class applying learning cycle emphasized exploration to current science class as it can promote wider scientific activities among elementary school students.

한국의 우주탐사 과학데이터 공개시스템 (The Public Release System for Scientific Data from Korean Space Explorations)

  • 우리나라 최초의 우주탐사 개발사업으로 시작된 달 탐사 개발사업은 다누리 달 궤도선뿐만 아니라 임무목적을 달성하기 위한 탑재체와 이를 운영하기 위한 심우주지상시스템도 함께 개발되었다. 다누리에 탑재된 국내 기관이 개발한 4기의 과학탑재체가 획득한 달 탐사 과학데이터는 2024년 1월부터 일반 대중에게 공개될 예정이다. 이를 위하여 우리나라 최초의 우주탐사 과학데이터 관리 및 공개시스템인 KPDS(KARI Planetary Data System)가 개발되었다. 본 논문에서는 구축된 KPDS 웹사이트의 구성과 기능에 대하여 기술하였다.

초등학생들과 초등예비교사들이 관찰활동에서 생성한 과학적 의문의 유형 (Types of Scientific Questions Generated in Observational Activity by Elementary Students and Preservice Teachers)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 과학적인 현상이 제시되었을 때 초등학생들과 초등예비교사들이 그 현상을 관찰하는 과정에서 생성하는 과학적 의문의 유형을 분석하여 분류하고, 초등학생들과 초등예비교사들이 생성한 의문의 유형과 수를 비교하고자 한다. 연구를 위하여 관찰활동 수행에 적합한 4가지의 과제 즉, 사이다에 담긴 건포도 관찰, 촛불 관찰, 잉크에 염색된 샐러리 관찰, 암석 관찰을 개발하고, 초등학교 6학년 학생 40명과 교원 양성 대학교에서 초등교육을 전공하는 초등예비교사 4학년 학생 20명을 대상으로 과학적 의문의 유형을 조사하였다. 연구 결과, 과학적 의문의 유형은 크게 추측적 의문, 인과적 의문, 예측적 의문, 방법적 의문, 적용적 의문으로 분류하였다. 그리고 이들의 하위 의문으로 각각 대상탐색 의문과 대상확인 의문, 설명자탐색 의문과 설명자확인 의문, 결과탐색 의문과 결과확인 의문, 실례탐색 의문과 실례확인 의문으로 분류하였는데, 방법적 의문에서는 하위 의문이 나타나지 않았다. 초등학생들과 초등예비교사들이 생성한 과학적 의문의 유형은 모두 동일하였으나, 그 빈도에 있어서는 차이가 나타났다.

과학 현상에 대한 초등학생들의 의문 유형과 초등교사들의 설명 유형과의 관계 (The Relationships between the Patterns of Elementary School Teachers' Explanations and the Patterns of Elementary School Students' Questions on Scientific Phenomena)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationships between the patterns of elementary school teachers' explanations and the patterns of students' questions types on scientific phenomena. for the purposes of this study, we collected questions related to scientific phenomena from 255 $3rd{\sim}6th$ students in 2 elementary schools. Classifying the students' questions collected, 20 representative questions for each type were selected. Data regarding teachers' scientific explanation from 62 teachers of 3 elementary schools were also collected. The results of the analysis of the questions for each science field show that the students in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades have the most questions regarding biology, and those in the 6th grade have more questions regarding earth science. Regarding question types, object exploration questions and explican exploration questions formed the majority. Moreover, the higher the students' grades, a decrease in the number of conjectural questions and an increase in the number of causal questions were observed. As a result of the analysis of the teachers' explanation, the following explanation types could be discerned; conjecture, hypothesis, prediction, teleological explanation, information given to feed exploration questions, as well as verification and information supply fer verification purposes. There were 4 kinds of relationships between question types and explanation types. One was the explanation fitting to each question type, a second was the explanation with additional content than the question required, a third was where the explanation was inappropriate to the question, and a forth was where the teacher responded that they "don't know." This study, investigating the relationships between questioning as a scientific inquiry process and explanation, will help to promote discussion regarding science classes in elementary school.

NIE 수업이 고등학생들의 과학과 관련된 태도에 미치는 영향 (The Effect on Science-Related Attitudes of High School Students for Newspaper in Education(NIE))

  • Through the systematic analysis on articles about the environment in newspapers, the news reports were considered as effective materials, so after being reconstructed, they were used as learning materials in a lesson on environment contamination which is newly introduced in Earth Science I from the 2009 curriculum revision. To examine students' attitude toward science, before and after NIE application to the students, Test of Science Related Attitudes(TOSRA) as a test tool was carried out which was composed of 7 categories - four optional questionnaires for each category, 28 in total were used. The result was as follows: in a pretest, based upon the average scores by factors the factors ranked from the highest to the lowest as follows: the social meaning of science, the acceptance of the scientific attitude, the commonness of a scientist, the attitude to scientific exploration, the pleasure in science class, the vocational interest in science, the concern over science as a hobby, and in posttest, their ranking as follows: the acceptance of the scientific attitude, the pleasure in science class, the commonness of a scientist, the social meaning of science, the attitude to scientific exploration, the vocational interest in science, the concern over science as a hobby. Also they were all statistically significant at a significant level p<0.05. However, the test revealed that there were some negative effects on the social meaning of science and the attitude to scientific exploration and therefore it is judged that in order to overcome those influences, some bright articles about solving the environment contamination should be applied to the lessons and be complemented effectively by experiments and various media: NIE as well as science magazines, data from Internet search and treatises on science.

A Case Study in the Mars Landing Site Selection for Science Objects

  • It is a crucial matter to select a landing site for landers or rovers in planning the Mars exploration. The landing site must have not only a scientific value as a landing site, but also geographical features to lead a safe landing for Mars probes. In this regard, this study analyzed landing site of Mars probes and rovers in previous studies and discussed the adequacy of the landing site to scientific missions. Moreover, this study also examined domestic studies on the Mars. The frameworks of these studies will guide the selection of exploration sites and a landing site when sending Mars probe to the Mars through our own efforts. Additionally, this paper will be used as the preliminary data for selection of exploration site and a landing site.

SEOUL NATIONAL UNIVERSITY 4K×4K CAMERA (SNUCAM) FOR MAIDANAK OBSERVATORY

  • We present the characteristics of the Seoul National University 4k Camera (SNUCAM) and report its performance on the 1.5m telescope at the Maidanak observatory in Uzbekistan. SNUCAM is a CCD camera with a pixel scale of 0.266" in $4096{\times}4096$ format, covering $18.1'{\times}18.1'$ field of view on the 1.5m. The camera is currently equipped with Bessell UBVRI, $H{\alpha}$, SDSS ugriz, and Y-band filters, allowing us to carry out a variety of scientific programs ranging from exoplanet studies to survey of quasars at high redshift. We examine properties of SNUCAM such as the bias level and its temporal variation, the dark current, the readout noise, the gain, the linearity, the fringe patterns, the amplifier bias, and the bad pixels. From our observations, we also constructed the master fringe frames in I-, z-, and Y-band. We outline some of the current scientific programs being carried out with SNUCAM, and demonstrate that SNUCAM on the 1.5m can deliver excellent images that reach to the $5-{\sigma}$ detection limits of R~25.5 mag and z~22.7 mag in 1 hour total integration.

탐구실험 수업에 자기조절학습 전략을 적용: 학업성취도 및 과학적 태도에 대한 효과 (Applications for Self-Regulating Learning Strategy to Quantitative Relationships in Chemical Reaction)

  • 4차 산업혁명 시대에 필요한 창의적 및 비판적 사고를 함양할 수 있는 자기조절학습 전략을 이용하여, 고등학교 화학I '화학반응에서의 양적관계' 단원의 탐구실험 수업에 응용하였으며, 학업성취도 및 과학적 태도에 대한 효과를 연구하였다. 학업성취도의 경우, 사전검사에서 두 집단 간에 의미 있는 차이가 없었으나, 사후검사에서 실험집단의 평균값이 유의미하게 높았다. 실험집단 학생들은 모둠별 토의, 메타인지 활동 등으로 부피비, 몰비, 입자수 비 및 계수 비, 등의 양적관계를 더 잘 이해하였다. 학업성취도는 메타인지와의 상관성이 가장 높게 나타났다. 과학적 태도의 경우, 준비성, 호기심, 등에서 두 집단 간의 평균점 차이가 크게 나타났으며, 과학적 태도는 행동조절과의 상관성이 가장 높게 나타났다. 따라서 메타인지와 과학적 태도에 대한 효과를 고려할 때, 자기조절학습 전략이 이 시대에 필요한 창의성 및 인성교육에 가장 적합한 교수-학습 형태인 것으로 나타났다.

우주탐사용 질량분석기들의 과학적 성과와 기술 동향 (Scientific Achievements and Technology Trends of Mass Spectrometers for Space Exploration)

  • 우리나라의 첫 달 탐사선 다누리호가 달 궤도에 진입을 성공하면서 이후 화성 탐사와 같은 우리나라의 새로운 우주탐사 계획을 기대할 수 있게 되었다. 우리나라의 우주탐사 탑재체는 한정적인 분야에서만 개발되어 새로운 우주탐사 탑재체를 개발할 필요성이 있다. 국외에서는 우주탐사에 거의 기본적으로 탑재되는 장비로 질량분석기가 있으며, 탐사 대상의 대기와 휘발성 물질 관측과 더불어 유기물 분석을 통한 생명체 탐사까지 아우르는 매우 유용한 탑재체이다. 하지만 우리나라에선 우주탐사용으로 질량분석기 탑재체를 개발한 전적이 없으므로 앞으로의 우주탐사를 대비해 기술을 확보해야 할 필요가 있다. 그에 앞서 국외의 우주탐사용 질량분석기 탑재체의 과학적 성과를 살펴보고 동향을 파악해본다.

과학 문제 풀이 과정에서 나타난 초등 과학 영재들의 사고 특성 탐색 (The Exploration of Thinking Characteristics of Elementary Science Gifted Children within Scientific Problem Solving)

  • While most previous studies have developed educational programs for science gifted children and have analyzed the differences between science gifted children and ordinary children using quantitative research methods, few have investigated the differences among the science gifted, especially in terms of the scientific thinking process. The present study was conducted to explore the thinking characteristics of the elementary science gifted according to the three scientific thinking process types during the scientific problem solving process. The study resulted in the collected of quantitative and qualitative data through tests and an interview with questions and scientific problems which required the use of one of the three scientific thinking processes. Ten elementary science gifted children served as interviewees. Two types as an opistemological basis for solving the problems are revealed on inductive thinking problems. Three types are on abductive thinking, and Three or Four types are on deductive. The results are expected to have an influence on the teaching and the evaluation of the elementary science gifted.
