A study on research trends for pregnancy in adolescence: Focusing on text network analysis and topic modeling (청소년 임신에 대한 연구 동향 분석: 텍스트 네트워크 분석과 토픽 모델링)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify core keywords and topic groups in the "adolescent pregnancy" field of research for a better understanding of research trends in the past 10 years. Methods: Topics related to adolescent pregnancy were extracted from 3,819 articles that were published in journals between January 2013 and July 2023. Abstracts were retrieved from five databases (MEDLINE, CINAHL, Embase, RISS, and KISS). Keywords were extracted from the abstracts and cleaned using semantic morphemes. Text network analysis and topic modeling were performed using NetMiner 4.3.3. Results: The most important keywords were "health," "woman," "risk," "group," "girl," "school," "service," "family," "program," and "contraception." Five topic groups were identified through topic modeling. Through the topic modeling analysis, five themes were derived: "health service," "community program for school girls," "risks for adult women," "relationship risks," and "sexual contraceptive knowledge." Conclusion: This study utilized text network analysis and topic modeling to analyze keywords from abstracts of research conducted over the past decade on adolescent pregnancy. Given that adolescent pregnancy leads to physical, mental, social, and economic issues, it is imperative to provide integrated intervention programs, including prenatal/postnatal care, psychological services, proper contraception methods, and sex education, through school and community partnerships, as well as related research studies. Nurses can play a vital role by actively engaging in prevention efforts and directly supporting and educating socially disadvantaged adolescent mothers, which could significantly contribute to improving their quality of life.

New Nurse Turnover Intention and Influencing Factors (신규간호사의 이직의도와 영향요인)

  • Purpose: The study was done to identify turnover intention in new nurses according to characteristics of the nurses and other factors affecting turnover and to provide data to set up a strategy to reduce the turnover. Methods: Data were collected from 1,077 new nurses who had less than 12 months employment experience and worked in one of 188 hospitals. Eight research instruments were used. Data analysis was done using SPSS WIN 15.0 program. Results: Several factors influence new nurse turnover intention. The average score for turnover intention was 2.12. The scores for subscales were self efficacy, 3.76, nursing performance, 3.90, job satisfaction, 2.09, organization commitment, 1.28, stress, 1.32, burnout, 2.82 and nursing organizational culture, 3.29. Turnover intention was related to self efficacy, nursing performance, job satisfaction, organization commitment, stress, burnout, nursing organizational culture, duration of in-class training, duration of on the job training, number of hospital beds, length of employment and duration of employment in current workplace. The predicting factors for turnover intention were burnout, stress, duration of employment in the current workplace, self efficacy and nursing performance. Those factors explained 51.6% of turnover intention. Conclusion: New nurse turnover intention can be reduced by mitigating the factors affecting this intention.

Concept Analysis of Cancer Rehabilitation for Cancer Survivors (암 생존자의 암 재활에 대한 개념분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify and define the concept of cancer rehabilitation in the lives of cancer survivors. Methods: A hybrid model of concept development was used to interface theoretical analaysis and empirical observation with a focus on definition. A comprehensive literature review and semi-structured interviews with five cancer survivors were completed. Results: The concept of cancer rehabilitation was found to be a route toward a positive experience having meaning in two dimensions: recovery of the activities of daily living and intrapersonal growth. Four attributes and ten indicators were defined. Conclusion: Cancer rehabilitation was defined as a positive process of change through recovery of the activities of daily living and intrapersonal growth. Therefore, oncology nurses can be encouraged to design, implement, and evaluate cancer rehabilitation nursing interventions with the results of this study. Further research needs to develop cancer rehabilitation measurements.

Predictors of subjectives happiness for male nursing students (남자 간호대학생의 주관적 행복감에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • The aim of this study was to identify the significant predictors of subjective happiness for male nursing students. Collecting data from 171 male nursing students, we carried out t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression on SPSS Win 20.0. The significant predictors of subjective happiness for male nursing students were self-esteem, gratitude disposition, perceived relationship of peer, and flow. These factors explained 56.1% of subjective happiness. The results suggest that an effective approach to happiness promotion program for male nursing students should consider self-esteem, gratitude disposition, perceived relationship of peer, and flow.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the papers on nursing in the KJHSM (Korean Journal of Health Service Management) (2007-2018), to identify the research trends and to help the future development of nursing research. Methods: The data collection was carried out from September 1, 2019 to September 30, 2019. The 78 copies of the original text were provided by the KSHSM website, DBpia, and NDSL (National Digital Science Library) electronic database. Results: Forty-seven studies had a non-experimental design, with most having a descriptive research design (89.3%). The most common participants were nurses (55.7%) and nursing college students (26.1%). A questionnaire was the most commonly used research tools (96.2%) and data collection methods (95.0%). The major keywords were the terms included in the environmental domain among the meta-paradigms of nursing (43.6%). Conclusions: In order to expand the quantity and quality of nursing science in the KSHSM, efforts are needed to improve the quality of research participants, research tools, and sampling methods.

Trends in Nursing Research in Korea: Research Trends for Studies Published from the Inaugural Issue to 2010 in the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing and the Journals Published by Member Societies under Korean Academy of Nursing Science (한국간호연구의 동향: 대한간호학회지 및 회원 학회지(창간호부터 2010년까지)에 게재된 논문의 연구동향 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify trends for studies published in the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing and journals published by member societies from inaugural issues to 2010. Methods: A total of 6890 studies were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Quantitative studies accounted for 83.6% while qualitative studies accounted for 14.4%. Most frequently used research designs were quasi-experimental (91.1%) for experimental research and survey (85.2%) for non-experimental research. Most frequent study participants were healthy people (35.8%), most frequent nursing interventions, nursing skills (53.5%), and 39.8% used knowledge, attitude and behavior outcomes for dependent variables. Most frequently used keyword was elderly. Survey studies decreased from 1991 to 2010 by approximately 50%, while qualitative studies increased by about 20%. True experimental research (1.2%) showed no significant changes. Studies focusing on healthy populations increased from 2001-2005 (37.5%) to 2006-2010 (41.0%). From 1970 to 2010, studies using questionnaire accounted for over 50% whereas physiological measurement, approximately 5% only. Experimental studies using nursing skill interventions increased from 1970-1980 (30.4%) to 2006-2010 (64.0%). No significant changes were noted in studies using knowledge, attitude and behavior (39.9%) as dependent variables. Conclusion: The results suggest that further expansion of true experimental, qualitative studies and physiological measurements are needed.

Relationships of Self-esteem, Family Function, and Self-efficacy in Jilin Chinese- Korean Nursing Students (연변조선족 간호대학생이 지각한 자아존중감, 가족기능, 자아효능감과의 관계)

  • Purpose: To survey and examine the relationships of self-esteem, family function, and self-efficacy in Chinese-Korean university students, and to provide supplemental data useful in counseling of university students during their adjustment to university life. Methods: A self-administered questionnaire with cross-sectional design was used. Participants were 103 Chinese undergraduate students in one university in Jilin, China. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA with Duncan's test and Pearson's correlation coefficients were used to analyze the data. Results: Mean scores were 3.40 for self-esteem, 2.32 for family function, and 2.93 for self-efficacy. The score for self-esteem differed significantly according to gender, body mass index (BMI), family number, education level of mother, and course of study. The mean score for family function differed significantly according to nursing satisfaction. The mean score for self-efficacy differed significantly according to BMI and nursing satisfaction. Positive correlations were evident between self-esteem and self-efficacy. Conclusions: To promote self-esteem and self-efficacy, development of nursing interventions to support family function is prudent.

A Review of Research on Evaluation Indexes and Determinants of Organizational Effectiveness of Hospital Nursing Organizations (병원 간호조직의 조직유효성 평가지표 및 결정요인에 관한 문헌 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to review journal articles, master's theses, and doctoral dissertations on organizational effectiveness in hospital nursing organizations in order to identify evaluation indexes, determinants, and overall trends and to suggest strategies for improvements. Methods: A total of forty-one papers on organizational effectiveness in hospital nursing organizations were reviewed. Results: These papers were journal articles, master's theses and doctoral dissertations regarding nurses who worked in general hospitals and university hospitals, excluding special hospitals (ie. armed forces hospitals, mental hospitals). The review of literature identified 18 operational definitions (evaluation indexes) and 36 significant determinants of organizational effectiveness in hospital nursing organizations. The operational definitions were measured by using 46 instruments. Conclusion: The study findings provide data on recent trends in organizational effectiveness; it also serves as basic evidence for the need to improve organizational effectiveness in hospital nursing organizations as well as indicates directions for future research.

The influence of e-learning digital literacy on cognitive flexibility and learning flow in nursing students (간호대학생의 인지적 유연성과 이러닝 디지털 리터러시가 학습몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of cognitive flexibility and e-learning digital literacy on the learning flow of nursing students who had experienced e-learning. Methods: The research design for this study was a descriptive survey using convenience sampling. Data were collected using online questionnaires completed by 134 nursing students in Andong city and Pocheon city. The data were analyzed using percentages, mean values, standard deviations, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression with SPSS for Windows version 22.0. Results: Positive correlations were found between learning flow and e-learning digital literacy (r = .43, p < .001), between learning flow and cognitive flexibility (r = .52, p < .001), and between e-learning digital literacy and cognitive flexibility (r = .65, p < .001). In the multiple regression analysis, cognitive flexibility (β = .42, p < .001) was a significant predictor that explained 27.8% of variance in learning flow. Conclusion: The results of this study show that cognitive flexibility is a factor influencing learning flow in nursing students. Based on the results of the study, educational programs aiming to improve learning flow should include methods that improve cognitive flexibility.

Achievements of Nursing Students among Simulation and Traditional Education of Bleeding Patients (출혈환자 간호 시뮬레이션 실습에 따른 간호학생의 학업성취)

  • Purpose: This study was performed to identify in nursing students the effects of simulation practice for hemorrhagic patients. Methods: Subjects were sophomore nursing students in Daegu (n=133). A self describing performance questionnaire which included knowledge, skill and attitude towards bleeding patients was given. Consent was received from students. The data was analyzed by ANOVA with Scheffe's test and Mann-Whitney U test using the SPSS 12.0 Program. Result: Subjective and objective knowledge and skill showed significant improvement in the control group, especially in assessment, correct medication administration, explaination of NPO and preparing the crash cart for a cardiac arrest. Objective knowledge and skill was significantly higher in the control group although attitude was not. Conclusion: Simulation practice was an effective education method for improving knowledge, skill and attitude in nursing students.
