To study the level of change in food and nutrient intake among different age groups, a dietary survey using the 24-hour recall method was conducted among 80 female elementary school children, 84 high school students, 100 adults from 25 to 35 years old and 120 elderly people over 60 years of age. The results of the study showed that plant food and total food intake were higher in adults and animal food intake was significantly higher in children. The percentage of plant food to total food intake was highest in the elderly and that of animal food to total food intake was highest in the children. The elderly consumed significantly less meat and poultry and more fish than the other groups. However, the children consumed significantly higher amounts of milk and dairy products. The elderly had the lowest Ca intake. Carbohydrate energy intake in the elderly was 70.3%, significantly higher than that for the other age groups. All of the age groups consumed a quantity of Ca below the Korean RDA and 77.5% of the elderly consumed an amount below 75% of the RDA. Nutrient adequacy ratio (NAR) of most nutrients was lowest in the elderly. Mean adequacy ratio (MAR), an index of overall dietary quality, was 0.88 for the children, 0.84 for the adolescents, 0.80 for the adults, and 0.70 for the elderly. Therefore, the results show that food and nutrient intake changes with advancing age, and the overall quality of the diet of elderly people is lower than that for the other age groups.
The subjects of this study on the relationships of locus of control, loneliness, and coping in the peer-alienation situation were 464 sixth grade children attending 4 elementary schools in Seoul. Analysis was by t-test, ANOVA, and Multiple Regression. Loneliness was higher in girls than in boys and in children with external locus of control. Passive coping in the peer-alienation situation was associated with higher levels of loneliness. Aggressive coping behavior in the peer-alienation situation was associated with higher levels of loneliness in boys. While both locus of control and passive coping behavior in the peer-alienation situation were predictive of loneliness in school age children, passive coping behavior was a stronger predictor of loneliness than locus of control.
This study investigated the adaptability of 3rd grade children in Taejon who had started first grade at 5 years of age. Subjects were 64 third grade children, half of whom had started first grade at 5 years and half at 6 years of age. Thirty-four parents and 36 elementary school teachers were also sampled. The General Intelligence Test, the Learning and Thinking Ability Test, and the Socio-Emotional Development Checklist were administered to the children. Parents and Teachers responded to the Questionnaire on the Adaptability of Early Entrance Children. Purpose: This study aimed to identify the safety perception and behaviors of mothers with school age children. Method: The subjects were 265 mothers of third graders in one elementary school located in metropolitan Seoul area. Framingham safety survey were used to guide the development of a self administered questionnaire for mothers. The questionnaire were sent home at school and the children returned them to their class teachers. Results: Among 265 mothers, 62 mothers (23.4%) had experience of visiting hospitals because of accidents and 201 mothers (75.8%) had no opportunities on safety education. Mothers with education higher than high school graduation showed more safety behaviors. Also, mothers having the experience of safety education showed higher scores on safety behaviors and mothers with the experience of hospital visits related to accidents showed low scores on safety behaviors. In the practice of safety behaviors, it showed high score to the traffic safety, followed by the home safety, child supervision, the safety from fire and explosion, the safety from electric devices, the safety from burn, and the safety from medicines. Conclusion: Mothers' overall practice on safety were poor. Based on these results, it is necessary to provide more safety education for mothers with school age children.
Purpose: This study is an integrative review to analyze articles about sex education for school age children in Korean journals. This study explored the year, methods, major variables and key findings of previous studies. Methods: Five electronic databases and eleven journals of nursing in Korean language were searched to find studies done until 2017. 75 papers published from 1995 to 2017 were selected (43 were survey studies and 32 were intervention studies). Results: Among the intervention studies, there was no Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) study. Most intervention studies were conducted to change sexual knowledge and sexual attitudes. Among the survey studies, Q methodology and content analysis were used. The subjects' sexual knowledge and sexual consciousness were measured low in some studies. The sex education for school age children was composed of elementary school students' perception, understanding and needs related to sex. In addition, sex education was carried out to improve students' informational aspects such as sexual knowledge, prevention of sexual violence and secondary sexual character as well as emotional aspects such as sexual attitude. However, research on sexual consciousness, sexual values and sexual identity was insufficient. Conclusion: In order to develop an effective sex education program for school age children, it is necessary to consider the degree of their perception, understanding and needs and reflect both the social and cultural aspects as well as the informational and emotional aspects.
The purpose of this study was the development of a scale to assess the daily hassles of school age children. The subjects were 398 third and sixth grade children selected from elementary schools in Seoul, Inchon, Taejon, Kwangju and Pusan. Instruments included a questionnaire composed of a 96-item Daily Hassles Coping Scale, demographic questions, a 27-item Children's Depression Inventory, the 42-item Han & Yoo Daily Hassles Scale for Children, and a 30-item Children's Behavior Check List for mothers. Mean, %, ${\chi}^2$, Cramer's V, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, factor analysis and Pearson's r were used for data analysis. 82 items from the 96-item Daily Hassles Coping Scale were selected through the item discriminant method. (Cramer's V discriminant coefficients ranged from .36 to .79). Five factors were extracted from the lst and 2nd factor analyses. Subscales were "parent-related," "friend-related I," "study-related," "friend-related II," and "teacher-related" stress. Criterion validity of the 82-item scale was confirmed through significant correlations with the Children's Depression Inventory (r=.55) and the Han & Yoo Daily Hassles Scale for Children (r=.22). Internal consistency of this scale was high, including internal reliability of subscales. These results confirm this scale as a valid and reliable measure of daily hassles of school age children.

As a result of the analysis, There were significant relationship between score each item of question naire and score of sorted statement. Therefore, school-age children was able to Q-sorting(forced normal distribution). Also, the four types of coping were named as follows : Type I (n=35) : To search for the dynamic behaviors Type II (n=12) : To search for the intellectual behaviors Type III (n=22) : To search for emotional-spiritual behaviors Type IV (n=7) : To search for the self-abuse behaviors Throught the study, the implication for teachers, parents and school nurses is that there is needed to guide and to support adaptive coping behaviors.
