This study was designed to identify the relation between Self-care Agency and mental health in vocational high school students of a rural area. The subjects for this study were 210 students living in Chonnam province: the breakdown of first, second and third grade students were 74, 78 and 58 respectively. The data were collected from April 1 to 4, 1997. The instruments used in this study were the Self-Care Agency Questionnaire developed by Deneys (1981) and the simplified SCL-90 developed by Lee, H. K. (1986) for measuring Mental Health. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation using the SAS $PC^+$ Program. The results were as follows: 1. The mean score of the Self-care Agency was 2.43. 2. The mean score of Mental Health was 2.11. 3. There were significant differences in sex (t=6.13, p= .014), religion (t=4.65, p= .032), the educational level of the father (F=3.62, p= .032), economic status (F=5.90, p= .003), and school performance (F=5.94, p= .003) with respect to selfeare agenecy. 4. There were significant differences in dwelling place (t=3.18, p= .025), economic status (F=4.55, p= .012), school performance (F=6.72, p= .002) and health problems (t= 5.41, p= .021) with respect to mental health. 5. The relationship between self care agency and mental health revealed a significant correlation (r=- .24, p= .005). The results showed that a low level of self care agency has an effect on mental health. We need an effective health education program to promote mental health.
The aim of this study was to examine differences in the level of satisfaction with medical care at a public health center between patients receiving free-care compared to those paying out-of-pocket. SERVQUAL(Comprehensive Service Quality Measurement Scale), a pyschometrically valid measure for evaluating hospital service quality, was used to assess patient satisfaction. The study sample consisted of 279 patients who received medical care at a public health center. The interview was conducted between April 23 and May 7, 1998. The results was as follow: 1. There were more elderly people among free-care patients than out-of-pocket patients. Education and income levels were lower amongs those receiving free-care. There were, however, no differences in the distribution of gender and religion between the two groups. Patients receiving free-care tended to visit the public health center more frequently compared to those self-paying patients. 2. Overall, free-care patients showed higher satisfaction level than that of self-paying patients. except for the dimension on sympathy and shape.

Purpose: This study was conducted in order to analyze the job of school health teacher in Korea. Methods: School health teachers' roles were analyzed by DACUM job analysis. Guide of DACUM methods and workshop were directed by a DACUM job analyst. The DACUM committee identified tasks associated with each duty and completed the DACUM chart. Results: Through DACUM job analysis, the roles of school health teachers were defined; one who manages health of students and staff, and conducts health education; 11 duties and 95 tasks were identified. The committee listed required knowledge and skills, working attitude, and future trends. Emergency and common disease care were the best critical duties, followed by health education, counseling, and self-development. Conclusion: School health teacher plays the roles of nurse and health care manager, and teacher. According to the expansion of health care needs and health education, school health teachers are placed in more essential and critical areas. Their duties and tasks are various and have changed significantly, thus the School Health Act should be changed practically. The results of this study can be used in development of training programs or evaluation of the job performance of school health teachers.
Government has extended the benefit coverage and reduced out-of-pocket (OOP) payment for cancer patients in 2005. This paper intends to examine the impact of the above policy on the equity in health care utilization. This paper analyzed the national health insurance data and compared the health care utilization of cancer patients before and after the policy change for people with 10 different income levels. For the equity in health care utilization, we examined the change in concentration index (CI) for visit days, inpatient days, and health expenditure. In the case of outpatient care, CI of visit days and health expenditure were positive(favoring the rich) in both regional and employee health insurance members and both 'before' and 'after' the policy change. CI values rarely changed after the policy change, and the policy change seems to have little impact on the equity of outpatient care utilization except expenditure of regional subscriber. In the case of inpatient care, CI of inpatient days was negative and CI of health expenditure was positive in both regional and work subscriber and both 'before' and 'after' the policy change. After the policy change, CI of inpatient expenditure in both groups of members decreased. CI of inpatient days changed in the direction favoring the poor in regional insurance members, but it rarely changed in employee insurance members. These results suggest that the policy of reducing OOP payment has a positive impact and reduced the inequity particularly in the utilization of inpatient care of cancer patients.
The necessity of school health promoting projects is well known to many researchers, however, there is a lack of research on the development of strategies for school health programs and the evaluation of the effectiveness of the programs. The results of our previous study in 1996 identified poor eyesight as one of the several health problems among elementary school children in urban areas. The main objective of this study is to develop, implement, and evaluate vision care for elementary school children. The research method utilized a quasi experimental design using non-equivalent group, pre-post comparison. The sample consisted of all second grade children in two elementary schools in Kyung-giProvince. In order to prevent a contamination effect of the vision care program, one school was selected as a control and the other school was selected as a treatment group. The experimental school had 467 children and the control school had 402 children. The visual acuity of children in both group was measured and a survey questionnaire was sent out to parents on the knowledge, attitude, and behavior related to vision care before the program was implemented. The children of the experimental school received the following programs; separate education on proper nutrition and care of eyesight for children and parents, daily eye exercises using video tape, and an essay and poster contest on healthy eyesight. The eye exercise program lasted from March, 1997 to November, 1997. On November, 1997, visual acuity was measured again from children in both schools. The data was analyzed by using SAS statistical package. The results indicate that the children in the experimental group had significantly (p〈0.001) better eyesight than the children in the control group. Also, some of the behavior highly related to the poor eyesight are poor maternal eyesight and watching TV from a short distance. In conclusion, one of the significance of this project is that the vision care program was developed after the need assessment. It will be encouraged in the future that more school health program should be developed after a need assessment. Also, inclusion of family members was important in health promoting projects within a school setting since healthy behavior needs to be reinforced at horne as well as at school.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate oral health status according to use of oral care products in the adult population and determine methods for improving oral health status. Methods: The date of 'The fifth korean national health and nutrition examination survey 2011' was analyzed for this study. The questionnaire was measured regarding oral care products, Oral health status and socio-economic characteristics. For statistical analysis, the Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 19.0 for Windows was used. We determined frequencies, percentage and determining statistical significance using multiple regression analysis. Results: General characteristics and oral care products showed differences in DMFT associated with residence, gender, age, education, dental floss, etc(waterpic, hi-tech toothbrush, denture care products), in FS-T associated with residence, gender, age, income level, education, health insurance, dental floss, Interdental brush, etc, in T-health associated with residence, age, education, health insurance, Interdental brush, etc. Conclusion: In conclusion, in order to promote oral health status of the adult have to suitable selection and accurate usage of oral care products. Education and program in oral care products for the adult should be needed.
Background: This study was conducted to analyze the impact of having a usual source of care on health behaviors of the middle aged and the elderly, in order to investigate the potential effect of enhancing primary health care in a Korean context. Methods: This study constructed a balanced panel of middle-aged and elderly samples using the Korea Health Panel 2016-2018, and fixed-effect models were used to analyze the data. Results: Among three sets of dependent variables (physical activity, smoking, drinking), statistically significant results were found only in physical activity. Subgroup analysis showed that this effect was not observed in the late elderly (aged 75 and older) and those without chronic diseases. Conclusion: Results of the study implied that enhancing primary health care among middle age and the elderly may have an effect on improving health behaviors. Moving forward to person-centered primary health care from disease-focused primary health care should be considered in high-risk groups such as the middle aged and the elderly with chronic diseases.
Objectives: We examined health care disparities in Korean urban homeless people and individual characteristics associated with the utilization of health care. Methods: We selected a sample of 203 homeless individuals at streets, shelters, and drop-in centers in Seoul and Daejeon by a quota sampling method. We surveyed demographic information, information related to using health care, and health status with a questionnaire. Logistic regression analysis was adopted to identify factors associated with using health care and to reveal health care disparities within the Korean urban homeless population. Results: Among 203 respondents, 89 reported that they had visited health care providers at least once in the past 6 months. Twenty persons (22.5%) in the group that used health care (n = 89) reported feeling discriminated against. After adjustment for age, sex, marital status, educational level, monthly income, perceived health status, Beck Depression Inventory score, homeless period, and other covariates, three factors were significantly associated with medical utilization: female sex (adjusted odds ratio [aOR, 15.95; 95% CI, 3.97 to 64.04], having three or more diseases (aOR, 24.58; 95% CI, 4.23 to 142.78), and non-street residency (aOR, 11.39; 95% CI, 3.58 to 36.24). Conclusions: Health care disparities in Seoul and Daejeon homeless exist in terms of the main place to stay, physical illnesses, and gender. Under the current homeless support system in South Korea, street homeless have poorer accessibility to health care versus non-street homeless. To provide equitable medical aid for homeless people, strategies to overcome barriers against health care for the street homeless are needed.

Objectives: This study aimed identify of the level and effect of the e-health literacy and health behavior in health science majors Methods: The data was collected from March 5 to March 15, 2018 for student majoring in health science at a university in the C city. The data were analyzed with the SPSS 21.0. Results: First, the e-health literacy were statistically significant in grades (F=5.769, p=0.001), health interest (F=10.553, p<0.001) and health care time (F=3.841, p=0.023), and health behavior were statistically significant in subjective health condition (F=5.476, p=0.05), health interest (F=16.716, p<0.001), and health care time (F=28.479, p<0.001). Second, the e-health literacy were correlated with grades, health care time, economic level and health interest, and health behavior were related to health care time, e-health literacy, subjective health condition and health interest. Third, health behavior related factors were health care time, e-health literacy, grades, subjective health condition, and health interest. Conclusion: The related knowledge and skills should be applied to basic classes in order to ensure that health science majors care can accurately utilize the information on the e-health.
