  • According to the fire statistics of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the fire ratio in factories, work places and warehouses shows 21.5% among total fire of buildings except the fire on cars or other fires. Especially, the buildings like factories and warehouses, which have a lot of ignitable sources and thus always have a strong possibility of fire, are needed to have well planned strategy in terms of life safety and property protection. In this respect, the present paper analyses the existing fire cases in factories, finds out the fire properties of factory buildings, and evaluates the codes concerning fire resistance and fire severity.

  • The use of Engineered Wood Systems (EWS), especially mass-timber, as a structural alternative or complement to steel and concrete is gaining interest and acceptance across different sectors of architecture, engineering, and construction, including in high-rise buildings. Focussing on the Australian context, this study examines the levels of adoption and barriers to using timber as a primary structural material in multi-storey buildings. Data collected from semi-structured interviews with stakeholders at the forefront of adoption in structural design, construction, and property development indicates that timber in multi-storey projects in Australia still faces industry-wide challenges. Designers' awareness and attitudes towards timber adoption are generally positive and suitable for flagship projects, including tall buildings, but for enduring and widespread impact, long-term investment in education within and outside the range of stakeholders already committed to promoting timber adoption is needed.

  • With the recent trend to construct high-rise and large buildings, the steel structure system is widely used, but there are not enough studies on the vibration characteristics of the iFLASH system on the buildings. Therefore, in this study, we performed a vibration measurement of the natural frequency and damping ratio in the stage of iFLASH panel, composit, frame completion and cladding completion. The result findings suggest that the damping ratio after the cladding completion has a greater effect on the reduction of the damping ratio, than the stage after the frame completion.

  • GPS(Global Positioning System) data has a high accuracy at outdoor positioning generally, but its accuracy decreases in the urban areas with dense buildings. Moreover insufficient number of satelllites prevent us GPS positioning at inside of buildings. To complement these shortcomings of GPS, RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) has been studied on indoor positioning parts. In Ubiquitous environment, LBS(Location Based Service) which can be used anytime and anywhere is an essential component. We use kalman filter to estimate the real location in GPS and RFID handover area. This study's purpose is to make a continuous positioning system using interlocking RFID and GPS.

  • With rapid economic growth, numerous deep excavation projects for high-rise buildings and subway transportation networks have been constructed in the past two decades. Deep excavations particularly in thick deposits of soft clay may cause excessive ground movements and thus result in potential damage to adjacent buildings and supporting utilities. Extensive plane strain finite element analyses considering small strain effect have been carried out to examine the wall deflections for excavations in soft clay deposits supported by diaphragm walls and bracings. The excavation geometrical parameters, soil strength and stiffness properties, soil unit weight, the strut stiffness and wall stiffness were varied to study the wall deflection behaviour. Based on these results, a multivariate adaptive regression splines model was developed for estimating the maximum wall deflection. Parametric analyses were also performed to investigate the influence of the various design variables on wall deflections.

  • Green Standard for Energy and Environmental Design(G-SEED) has been implemented for the realization of sustainable development and resource-saving and eco-friendly buildings from 2002. Studies about the green buildings are made actively and is being developed through constant revision. However, study results of green building have not been fully reflected in the standard. Therefore, this study analyzes the previous studies about G-SEED for school facilities and check the degree of to reflect the problems and improvements suggested in previous studies. This study will be a reference of future revision Substantial problems and requirements are not reflected in revision standard. Proposed improvement requirements are classed as to improve the items(establish specific standards, supplementation), strengthen standards(designate the prerequisite items), propose a new evaluation method, add new items. delete exist items and adjust the score. Therefore, future revision of G-SEED for school facilities should reflect the results of previous studies.

  • School Design in the future will be more important on exterior space plan. However, there is no specific definition or boundary regarding exterior space, and related regulations and guides define the essential factors only. The purpose of this study is to have a guideline for the concept of exterior space in elementary school buildings, and deducted strong and weak points by evaluating exterior space based on each business methods. A result of this study can be suggest what improvements should be made on exterior space design of elementary school buildings by comparative analysis of positive and weak points for each evaluation factors.

  • Currently, according to the climate change, serious damage by Typhoon has been occurred in the world. In this respect, the research on the damage prediction model to minimize the damage from various natural disaster has been conducted in several developed countries. In the case of U.S, various damage prediction models of buildings from natural disasters have been used widely in many organizations such as insurance companies and governments. In South Korea, although studies regarding damage prediction model of hurricane have been conducted, the scope has been only limited to consider the property of hurricane. However, it is necessary to consider various factors such as socio-economic, physical, geographical, and built environmental factors to predict the damages. Therefore, to address this issue, correlation analysis is conducted between various variables based on the data of hurricane from 2003 to 2012. The findings of this study can be utilized to develop for predicting the damage of hurricane on buildings.

  • This paper is focused on the economical efficiency of the geothermal heat pump system in school. As the importance of problems of environment and energy becomes larger, the development and distribution of energy-saving technology in the whole nation has become influential. This paper is intended, targeting on school buildings scattered all over the country, to evaluate the introduction and possibility of a terrestrial heat system which is in the first stage of introduction in the country, through energy consumption and efficiency in case where a terrestrial heat system is introduced. To do that, the author performed a qualitative analysis of the heat pump system using various terrestrial heat energy and the system introduced to existing school buildings and, through the analysis, made tentative evaluation on the most environment-friendly and energy saving type system. Also, the author performed simulation analysis using a currently typical school building standard and, on the basis of this result, conducted efficiency analysis of various heat pump systems. The conclusion according to synthetical analysis & evaluation can be summarized as follows. In case a heat pump system is introduced to a school building, it was deemed the investment in the early stage would increase, but the investment could be collected within 5~6 years through reduction of large operation expenses. Also, it was analyzed in case of terrestrial heat contracted heat mode using midnight electric power among heat pump systems, not only early investment but also operation expenses could be reduced to a great extent. Accordingly in case the system using terrestrial heat energy is applied to the school buildings that are to be newly built or repaired in the future, it will provide an object-lesson to students as well as contributing to energy saving.

  • Nowadays, reduction of energy use in buildings is a big issue, especially in public buildings like schools. The building structure is very simple in that, the room size, schedule and user number is similar across different schools. There are many policies which are suitable for this kind of buildings. Investigation of energy consumption pattern in primary school, middle school and high school in different cities of Korea has been done in this paper using statistical data from national organization and the data from IBM and Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, aimed at providing the basic data for the development of energy efficiency improvement policies of educational facilities. The study was divided according to climate, energy source type and public or private school, as different cities have different climates and accordingly different amount of energy sources are used. It was observed that, the average energy consumption in primary school is $36.9kWh/m^2$, in middle school is $20.5kWh/m^2$ and in high school $27.4kWh/m^2$. As further analysis, monthly energy consumption pattern has been analyzed for one city.
