This is a study on types and current status of school library in japan that are open to public. it aims to increase library access and further improvement of accessible information environment by opening the libraries within schools. In case of Japan, libraries' importance to school education enacted world's first School library act by 1953 and installation rate of school libraries is achieved up to 100%. These libraries opened to its local community is in the process of increasing library usage and now in total of 11.6% of lower, middle, and upper school are already opened to their local community. Considering decreasing usage of facilities in schools, teacher vacant time, expanding libraries, and other various alternatives should be considered together. It will lead to equal access to information environment and lifelong education. The study suggests ways of installing school libraries in appropriate sizes and forms within their local societies. It also propose possible ways to open school libraries to perform their own functions.

This study investigated factors and issues for law school library evaluation. Also, this study suggested the roles and guidelines for law school libraries to perform its own role and function. To carry out the research, surveys were conducted with the law librarians. Then surveys were conducted to investigate law school students' demands and behaviors. Especially this study evaluated law libraries which were not carried out independently and professionally until now and meaningful as it thoroughly investigated users' demands and behavior with law school libraries and function and roles of law librarians. To facilitate law school library services and functions, quality of the collections, librarians' role, and users' needs should be considered as well as buildings and physical facilities. Particularly, users' needs assessment and librarians' opinion survey will be imperative in implementing evaluation.

This study investigates the operation status of Special Schools' School Library and suggests policy implications after comparing with the School Library. As a result of the study, compared with general schools by region and school establishment, special schools are lacking in collection, budget, reading seats and usage. The number of collections per student in special schools is 57.9, the number of loans is 10.8, while the number of general schools is 96.7 and 29.6. The budget is about 30% of general schools, more than 90% of general schools have more than 20 seats, while Special Schools are only 75 (42.9%). There is not one volume of use compared to the collection. There are 47 schools (26.8%) with specialized staff, and only 20 schools have librarian licenses. Therefore, in order to revitalize the school library of special schools, it is necessary to cooperate with related organizations with disabilities in the local community, to expand collections, to have professional librarians and to improve the facilities environment.

A 3D modeling of urban area can be composed the terrain modeling that can express specific and shape of the terrain and the object modeling such as buildings, trees and facilities which are found in urban areas. Especially in a 3D modeling of building, it is very important to make a unit model by simplifying 3D structure and to take a texture mapping, which can help visualize surface information. In this study, the texture mapping technique, based on library for 3D urban modeling, was used for building modeling. This technique applies the texture map in the form of library which is constructed as building types, and then take mapping to the 3D building frame. For effectively apply, this technique, we classified buildings automatically using LiDAR data and made 3D frame using LiDAR and digital map. To express the realistic building texture, we made the texture library using real building photograph.

This study is for a small sized library to expand the functions of public libraries in the community. This study aims to encourage local residents utilizing information and public libraries by opening parted facilities to public and naming it a substitute. It is expected to contribute to richer welfare system. In detail, the study discusses progression of the small sized library as well as budgeting and hiring staffs in Committee on Library and Policy. However, there is limitations in terms of capabilities because school library is different from public library target users, space, unit plans. Therefore, this study investigates a small sized library as a function to find out type, plan, and space availability and size of ideal open school library.

The purpose of this paper is to forecast the future of library education in Korea. Toward this purpose, first, the historical events of library education in the United States of America and in the United Kingdom are introduced along with the IFLA Standards for Library Schools and the Unesco's General Information Programme. Secondly, the theoretical foundations of library education are extracted from the events. Thirdly, the factors influencing library education as well as library developments are identified, and, finally, the prospects of library education are forecasted in the light of the various factors in the Korean society and the theoretical foundations. The prospects are forecasted as follows: 1. The education for information science will be incorporated in library education. 2. The number of courses related to library services and uses will be increased. 3. The students should be provided with enough hands-on experiences to be familiar with new information technology. 4. The cooperation between library schools and libraries will be reinforced. 5. The departments of library science will cooperate with other departments in the universities in order to utilize the expertise and facilities. 6. The education of graduate schools will be specialized to produce subject specialist librarians and the undergraduate education will produce public and school librarians. 7. Opportunities for continuing education will be provided more and librarians encouraged to participate in those activities. 8. Library association should actively be involved in library education as a provider of continuing education or as a liaison between library schools and libraries. 9. The courses of foundations including library history, library research and preservation of culture will never be neglected.

This study is to suggest the revitalization plan of the medical school libraries in the future, on the basis of analysis for the overall operation situation of the medical school libraries among the medical libraries. So based on the website, it is divided into 1) whether independent homepage exists, 2) service target, 3) books, 4) classification system, 5) manpower, 6) facilities (area, number of seats available), 7) equipment (pc, printer, copy machine, etc.), 8) services, and then analyzed. Consequently, as the ways to revitalize the medical libraries, firstly, it is necessary to establish legal standards and develop guidelines for the medical school library's books, sizes, librarians, etc. Secondly, establishing a cooperative community network between medical school libraries is necessary. Thirdly, policies such as support at the national level, specialization education of librarians, development of operational guidelines, and activation of inter-library networks are needed to revitalize the medical school libraries. It is also expected that research on the actual situation of the medical libraries should be conducted at the national level or at the level of the association of medical libraries.

The problem of energy consumption is more serious in university buildings than primary, middle and high school buildings. Because university buildings have generally heating and cooling systems, and various incidental facilities. In university, the library is one of the building that many people use and the most energy is spent. So, investigation on energy saving is very important and urgent. This study aims finally to present the guideline for low-energy design of University library by aiding a designer to select best solution in the side of energy-saving. In this paper, composition of space, utilization schedule and performance of construction materials are grasped, some primary factors that effect to energy saving are analyzed by energy simulation. The result of this study is as follows; First, the subject library has more cooling load than heating load because of cooling load generated during middle season. Second, green roofs is the most effective to heating load saving, but not to cooling energy. Third, outdoor air cooling is the most effective to cooling energy saving among the investigated strategies included in this study.

Recently, as the number of closed schools continues to increase due to the super aging society, low fertility rate, declining school age population, There are cases in which a new facility or space is being reborn by utilizing idle facilities and sites of a closed school. The use of closed schools can be largely understood in the context of urban regeneration, the purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of the area where closed school occurred and to analyze the closure type using the evaluation standard of the decline area in urban regeneration projects. In this paper, we propose that the system and model of utilizing closed school in the library should be considered based on the characteristics, type, form, and implications of the are in which closed schools occurred which derived from research results.
