  • The purpose of this study is to suggest improvement plans of school green building certification system in the concept of the Green Building Index by comparing items of domestic system with those of foreign system. School is a public facility for students. So Green Building Certification System for School must have educational point of view adding to energy saving, reduction of greenhouse gas emission, etc. Also school is forming a large part with the apartment house in the green building certification system. So we need to manage the green building certification system for school to meet carbon reduction policy.

  • This paper considered the situation of the school building facilities in the university classified by the campus characteristics. Data were collected from 224 universities campus of 180 4 year colleges. The results are as follows: 1) The floor area of school building facilities increases continuously in 2001-2003 in the campuses studied. The floor area of school building facilities per 1 student increase $15.85m^2$ in 2001, $17.62m^2$ in 2002, and $17.79m^2$ in 2003. 2) The floor area of school building facilities is distributed widely, also the floor area of school building facilities is below $130,000m^2$ and the floor area per 1 student is below $23m^2$ in 75% of the campuses studied. 3) The floor area of school building facilities per 1 student increases $16.07m^2$ in 2001, $17.41m^2$ in 2002 and $17.62m^2$ in 2003. 4) The floor area of school building facilities per 1 student is large but tends to decrease every year in the university of education. Medical, arts and physical type campus has the large floor area per 1 student and the distribution of area is wide owing to the campus having a hospital. The floor area per 1 student is large and the distribution of area is wide in the sub campus.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest improvement plans of School Green Building Certification System by comparing items of domestic system with those of foreign system. Especially, we focused on school use classification. Use classification of Green Building Certification System must be based on Building Codes and reflect the nature of building use and size. Schools are divided into three groups ; preschool, school(elementary, junior high school, high school), university and ect. Also they must be set up assessment method reflecting the nature of school use and size.

  • This paper considered 1) the relation between the number of student and the floor area of the school building facility, 2) the situation and the distribution of the school building facilities area, 3) the position between the district office of education by the school building facilities composition. Data were collected from 529 elementary school in seoul. 1) The number of student is have not an influence on the floor area of the school building facility in the middle school. 2) The floor area of the school building facilities per 1 student of the jungbu district office of education is larger than other the district office of education and distribution of area is wide. 3) As the position between the district office of education by the school building facilities composition is considered by principal component analysis, the maintenance of the need space is late in the gangdong gangseo district office of education, maintenance of support space is late in the gangdong dongbu district office of education, the maintenance of management space is late in the seobu bukbu district office of education.

  • The idea that a school could take a role of educating each community personnel as well as students and the school building could be a center in a community is discussed in this paper. Also, as rental housings being included in the community and placed near school buildings, school facilities can be shared and cover the shortage of social welfare facilities. Thus urban social facilities including schools, social and cultural facilities, and rental housings should be planned as a bundled scheme. The objective of this Paper is to find the suitability of building a complex of school, gymnasium, cultural facilities, welfare facilities in school sites, and building rental housing in public building sites, such as cultural facilities and welfare facilities, gymnasium sites in the City of Pyeong Teak. It is found that this assumption can be proved when building a public school of 6 to 7 story or a rental apartment with a floor area ratio of 150% - 200%.

  • Building-integrated photovoltaic(BIPV) systems can operate as a multi-functional building components, which generates electricity and serves as part of building envelope. It can be regarded as a new architectural elements, adding to the building's aesthetics. Besides of these benefits, the application of PV systems into school buildings tends to play an important role in energy education to students. In this context, this study aims to analyse the applicability of PV systems into school buildings. For an existing school building, four types of BIPV designs were developed; rooftops, wall-attached, wall-mounted with angle, and sunshading device. Based on energy modeling of those BIPV systems, the whole 60.1kWp rated PV installation is expected to yield about 65.6MWh of electricity, that is about 50% more than the annual electricity consumption of the school, 44MWh. It was also found that the applicability of the PV systems into the school building was very high, and the rooftop systems with the optimized angle was the most efficient in energy production, followed by sunshading, wall-mounted with angle and wall-attached. It concludes that school buildings have a reasonable potential to apply PV systems in the aspects of building elements and electricity production.

  • This study examines the risk of overheating of a school building, under extreme hot weather conditions, in 14 locations in the United Kingdom using the overheating criteria defined in Building Bulletin 101 (BB101). The building was modelled as naturally ventilated, mechanically ventilated and in mixed mode and was simulated both for the current and the projected weather conditions of the 2050s. Under the current weather conditions, results of the simulations show that when naturally ventilated, the school building fulfils the BB101 criteria only in the areas of Edinburgh and Glasgow. In the simulations of the building as mechanically ventilated and in mixed mode, mechanical cooling was provided in order for the building to comply with the overheating criteria. A comparison of the required cooling loads between the two scenarios shows that application of mixed mode ventilation results in less cooling loads.

  • Purpose: A lot of active researches have addressed the impact of a building on global environment, but most of the researches focus on a residential building and a large office building. Hereupon, this study assessed the impact on environment quantitatively through the analysis of input materials targeting a school building. Method:This study calculated embodied energy of input materials suggested in a construction statement on a school building using the input-output analysis. This study finally carried out environmental impact assessment by applying LCIA DB shown in the preceding researches to the calculated embodied energy. Result: The analysis result revealed that the environmental impact per unit area(/$m^2$) at a school building was $4.11E-02PE{\cdot}yr$, among which Construction was found to be $3.59E-02PE{\cdot}yr$, being analyzed to account for about 87% of the total environmental impact. Also, as a result of detailed environmental impact, the impact on global warming among the total environmental impact was analyzed to be high, accounting for about 76%.

  • This study aims to choose installation location of wind power system and analyze influence factors of wind power system by shape of super high-raise building by using CFD simulation. As a result of this study, wind power system is more applicable to streamlined building than normal building. Round openings are seemed to be the most efficient shape for building integrated wind power system in types applying venturi effect. Safety and vibration should be considered in the case of application of wind power system between the buildings.

  • The accuracy of cost estimation at an early stage in school building project is one of the critical factors for successful completion. So many method and techniques have developed that can estimate construction cost using limited information available in the early stage. Among the techniques, Support Vector Machine(SVM) has received attention in various field due to its excellent capacity for self-learning and generalization performance. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to verify the applicability of cost prediction model based on SVM in school building project at the early stage. Data used in this study are 139 school building cost constructed from 2004 to 2007 in Gyeonggi-Do. And prediction error rate of 7.48% in support vector machine is obtained. So the results showed applicability of using SVM model for predicting construction cost of school building projects.
