An Efficient Spatial Query Processing in Wireless Networks (무선 네트워크 환경에서 효율적인 공간 질의 처리)

  • In recent mobile environments, query processing costs have been rapidly increasing as users request large amounts of queries. In addition, the server's performance is increasing for many users to handle high-capacity queries, but the workload is increasing continuously. To solve these problems, we use the wireless broadcasting environment. However, in a existing wireless broadcasting environment, servers have a problem sending all the objects they manage to their clients. Therefore, we propose a new R-Bcast combining the advantages of demand-based and wireless broadcasting. R-Bcast is a technique that protects query information and reduces query processing time. Experiments have proved that R-Bcast is superior to conventional techniques.

A Transmission Scheduling Algorithm for All-to-all Broadcast in Optical Passive Star Interconnections (Passive Star형 광상호연결망에서의 All-to-all 방송을 위한 송수신 스케쥴링 기법)

  • In optical passive star interconnections, all packets are transmitted between nodes ina broadcast and-select manner. It is assumed that each node has a innable transmitter and a fixed-savelength receiver, ad that all packet lengths are equal so that each transmission can be done in a unit time. The tuning delay, denoted by $\delta$, means the amount of time for transmitter to change its wavelength to another one. The problec is , given ay value of the mumber of nodes N and the number of wavelengths $\kappa$ according to WDM implementations, to find transmission schedules with minimum cycle length for all-to all brondcaxt where no one sends any packet to itself. In this paper, we prove that the cycle length of optimal transcission schedules should be at least $max[[{\frac{N}{k}](N-1)}]$,$k\delta$$+N-1$. A novel algorithm for optimal transmission schedules is then presented when N-1 is divisible by $\kappa$. This algorithm also can be used for any values of N and $\kappa$ if the tuning delay $\delta$ does not affect strictly the cycle length of transmission schedules, i,e, $[\frac{N}{k}](N-1)$ > $\kappa\delta$+N-1.

A Research on the Regulations and Perception of Interactive Game in Data Broadcasting: Special Emphasis on the TV-Betting Game (데이터방송 인터랙티브 게임 규제 및 이용자 인식에 관한 연구: 승부게임을 중심으로)

  • This study examines the regulatory issues and introduction problems of TV-betting data broadcasts in Korea by in-depth interview with a panel group. TV-betting data broadcast services of card games and horse racing games are widely in use in Europe and other parts of the world. In order to carry out the study, a demo program of TV-betting data broadcast in the OCAP(OpenCableTM Application Platform Specification) system environment, which is the data broadcasting standard for digital cable broadcasts in Korea was exposed to the panel group and then they were interviewed after watching and using the program. The results could be summarized as below. First of all, while TV-betting data broadcasts have many elements of entertainment, the respondents thought that it would be difficult to introduce TV-betting in data broadcasts as in overseas countries largely due to social factors. In addition, in order to introduce TV-betting data broadcasts, they suggested that excessive speculativeness must be suppressed through a series of regulatory system devices, such as by guaranteeing credibility of the media based on safe security systems for transactions, scheduling programs with effective time constraints to prevent the games from running too frequently, limiting the betting values, and by prohibiting access to games through set-top boxes of other data broadcast subscribers. The general consensus was that TV-betting could be considered for gradual introduction within the governmental laws and regulations that would minimize its ill effects. Therefore, the government should formulate long-term regulations and policies for data broadcasts. Once the groundwork is laid for safe introduction of TV-betting on data broadcasts within the boundary of laws and regulations, interactive TV games are expected to be introduced in Korea not only for added functionality of entertainment but also for far-ranging development of data broadcast and new media industries.

Multi-View Video System using Single Encoder and Decoder (단일 엔코더 및 디코더를 이용하는 다시점 비디오 시스템)

  • The progress of data transmission technology through the Internet has spread a variety of realistic contents. One of such contents is multi-view video that is acquired from multiple camera sensors. In general, the multi-view video processing requires encoders and decoders as many as the number of cameras, and thus the processing complexity results in difficulties of practical implementation. To solve for this problem, this paper considers a simple multi-view system utilizing a single encoder and a single decoder. In the encoder side, input multi-view YUV sequences are combined on GOP units by a video mixer. Then, the mixed sequence is compressed by a single H.264/AVC encoder. The decoding is composed of a single decoder and a scheduler controling the decoding process. The goal of the scheduler is to assign approximately identical number of decoded frames to each view sequence by estimating the decoder utilization of a Gap and subsequently applying frame skip algorithms. Furthermore, in the frame skip, efficient frame selection algorithms are studied for H.264/AVC baseline and main profiles based upon a cost function that is related to perceived video quality. Our proposed method has been performed on various multi-view test sequences adopted by MPEG 3DAV. Experimental results show that approximately identical decoder utilization is achieved for each view sequence so that each view sequence is fairly displayed. As well, the performance of the proposed method is examined in terms of bit-rate and PSNR using a rate-distortion curve.

Transmission Method and Simulator Development with Channel bonding for a Mass Broadcasting Service in HFC Networks (HFC 망에서 대용량 방송서비스를 위한 채널 결합 기반 전송 방식 및 시뮬레이터 개발)

  • Massive broadcasting contents such as UHD(Ultra High Definition) TV which requires multi-channel capacity for transmission has been introduced in recent years. A transmission scheme with channel bonding has been considered for transmission of massive broadcasting contents. In HFC(Hybrid Fiber Coaxial) networks, DOCSIS 3.0(Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification 3.0) has already applied channel bonding schemes for up/downstream of data service. A method unlike DOCSIS 3.0 is required to introduce a channel bonding scheme in the broadcasting service having unidirectional transmission with a downstream. Since a massive broadcasting content requires several channels for transmission, VBR(Variable Bit Rate) transmission has been emerging for the bandwidth efficiency. In addition, research on channel allocation and resource scheduling is required to guarantee QoS(Quality of Service) for the broadcasting service based on VBR. In this paper, we propose a transmission method for mass broadcasting service in HFC network and show the UHD transmission simulator developed to evaluate the performance. In order to evaluate the performance, we define various scenarios. Using the simulator, we assess the possibility of channel bonding and VBR transmission for UHD broadcasting system to provide mass broadcasting service efficiently. The developed simulator is expected to contribute to the efficient transmission system development of mass broadcasting service.

Multiplexing of UHDTV Based on MPEG-2 TS (MPEG-2 TS 기반의 UHDTV 다중화)

  • In this paper, a method of MPEG-2 Transport Stream (TS) multiplexing for Ultra HDTV (UHDTV) and its design and implementation as a SW tool is described. In practice, UHD video may be divided into several HD videos and each video is encoded in parallel. Therefore, it is necessary to synchronize and multiplex multiple bitstreams encoding each HD video for transmitting and storing UHD video. In this paper, it is assumed that 4 HD videos partitioning a UHD spatially are encoded as H.264/AVC and two 5.0 channel audios are encoded by AC-3. Therefore, 4 H.264/AVC elementary streams (ESs) and 2 AC-3 ESs is mainly considered in the TS multiplexing of UHD. For the carriage of H.264/AVC and AC-3 over MPEG-2 TS, PES packetization and TS multiplexing are designed and implemented based on the extended specification of the MPEG-2 Systems and ATSC (Digital audio compressed standard), respectively. The implemented UHD TS multiplexing tool emulates real time HW operation in the time unit corresponding to the duration of one TS packet transmission in a given TS rate. In particular, in order to satisfy the timing model, the buffers defined in the TS System Target Decoder (T-STD) are monitored and their statuses are considered in the scheduling of TS multiplexing. For UHD multiplexing, two kinds of multiplexing structures, which are UHD re-multiplexing and UHD program multiplexing, are implemented and their strength and weakness are investigated. The developed UHD TS multiplexing tool is tested and verified in terms of the syntax and semantics conformance and functionalities by using a commercial analyzer and real-time presentation tools.

The Accomplishment and Evaluation of the Policy of Scheduling Outsourcing Broadcasting Programs (외주제작 방송 프로그램 편성 정책의 성과와 평가)

  • This study analyzed the accomplishment of the outsourcing production policy which forces broadcasting companies to schedule and broadcast more than a certain proportion of outsourcing production programs. According to the results from the examination of whether or not the policy increased the diversity of broadcasting programs, it is positive that a rise in the number of production companies resulting from the implementation of the outsourcing production policy increased the diversity of broadcasting program makers, but programs supplied were limited to certain genres, failing to be diverse. According to the results from the examination of whether or not the competitiveness of broadcasting and video contents increased, production conditions had not improved due to the controversy over the ownership of the right of production between terrestrial broadcasting companies and outsourcing production companies. In addition, though there was the positive effect of increasing export of broadcasting programs, the exports were limited to certain genres.

  • A Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) is a vehicular specific type of a mobile ad-hoc network, to provide temporary communications among nearby vehicles. Mobile node of VANET consumes energy and resource with participating in the member of network. In a VANET, data replication and cooperative caching have been used as promising solutions to improve system performance. Existing cooperative caching scheme in a VANET mostly focuses on weak consistency is not always satisfactory. In this paper, we propose an efficient cache management scheme to maintain strong data consistency in a VANET. We make an adaptive scheduling scheme to broadcast Invalidation Report (IR) in order to reduce query delay and communication overhead to maintain strong data consistency. The simulation result shows that our proposed method has a strength in terms of query delay and communication overhead.

Optimal Transmission Scheduling with Optical/Electronic Conversion Delay in Optical Passive Star Interconnections (Passive Star형 광상호연결망에서 광/전 변환을 고려한 최적의 전송 스케쥴링)

  • 본 논문은 N개의 노드로 구성된 파장분할다중화(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) 방식의 Passive Star형 광상호연결망에서 K개의 파장이 사용가능 할 때 패킷 전송 스케쥴링 문제를 다루고 있다. 모든 노드는 파장조율이 가능한 송신기와 특정 파장에 고정된 수신기를 각각 한 개씩 가지고 있으며, 하나의 패킷이 송신기로부터 수신기까지 전송되는 데에 걸리는 시간은 항상 일정하다고 가정한다. 최적의 패킷 전송 스케쥴이란 송신노드 입장에서 임의의 파장에서 다른 파장으로 송신기를 조율하는 데에 따른 지연시간(turning delay)을 고려하여 같은 시간에 최대한 많은 서로 다른 파장을 사용하도록 함과 동시에, 수신노드의 입장에서 수신된 패킷들의 광/전 변환에 따른 지연시간(conversion delay)을 고려하여 패킷의 수신간격을 일정하게 유지함으로써 모든 패킷이 최소시간 내에 전송될 수 있도록 언제 어떤 파장을 사용하여 패킷들을 전송할 것인지 결정하는 것을 말한다. 본 논문에서는 파장조율에 따른 지연시간을 $\delta$로 나타낼 때 모든 노드가 자기 자신을 제외한 다른 모든 노드에 주기적으로 전방송(all-to-all broadcast)을 반복하는 경우에 임의로 주어진 N, K, $\delta$의 값에 대하여 최적의 패킷 전송 스케쥴을 구할 수 있는 알고리즘을 제안하고 있다. 또한, N이 K로 나누어 떨어지면 최적의 전방송 주기는 [NK($\delta$+1)/{$N_2$-N-NK+K$^2$+K}](N-1)임을 증명하였다.

Analysis of Influence Factors on the Satisfaction of Viewers on China's CCTV-9 Channel (중국 CCTV-9 채널 시청자의 프로그램 관람 만족도 결정요인 분석)

  • In recent years, the research on audience satisfaction after watching programs has been carried out in various fields. However, there is no precedent for the study of simply analyzing the influencing factors of audience satisfaction with the newly established CCTV-9 channel. For CCTV-9, how to explore the strategy of industrial development based on the needs of the audience in the era of big data is a very important part. This article exploratively focuses on the influencing factors related to CCTV-9 audience satisfaction. Using questionnaires, 101 samples of the satisfaction with the channel of men and women of different ages, education backgrounds, majors, and incomes were collected to test, and 9 hypotheses were tentatively proposed as relevant influencing factors of channel satisfaction. Through empirical analysis, this research searches for the determinants. The reliability and validity of the measurement were properly analyzed, and all hypotheses were statistically tested. The empirical results show that: subject matter, program format, program scheduling, program broadcast time, channel advertising, simulcast series of documentaries, diversified communication platforms, brand image packaging and audience satisfaction are significantly positively correlated.
