  • In order to increase the practical usability of the virtual reality(VR)-based BIM object in the construction site, the difference between the virtual image and the real image should be resolved, and when it is applied to the construction schedule management function, it is necessary to reduce the image gap between the virtual completion and the actual completion. In this study, in order to solve this problem, a prototype of 4D model is developed in which augmented reality (AR) and 3D printing technologies are linked, and the practical usability of a 4D model linked with two technologies is verified. When a schedule simulation is implemented by combining a three-dimensional output and an AR object, it is possible to provide more intuitive information as a tangible image-based schedule information when compared to a simple VR-based 4D model. In this study, a methodology and system development of an AR implementation system in which subsequent activities are simulated in 4D model using markers on 3D printing outputs are attempted.

  • In Korea, BIM technology is applied mainly to building construction projects, but is expected to be applied rapidly to civil engineering projects because the government is currently considering the mandatory application of BIM for infrastructure facilities. Because the infrastructure project is processed in a horizontal work area, the application of BIM technology is more useful in the schedule management of the construction phase than the interference management of the design phase. The 4D CAD system is a typical BIM technology applied to the schedule management in the construction phase, but the application to the actual project is limited due to the lack of practical functions. This study examined the functions of four representative 4D CAD systems commercialized so that the selection criterion can be provided according to the characteristics of the project, and suggests that the functions that should be improved to have practicability. As a result of functional analysis, the application characteristics of each system were analyzed and the user convenience was suggested. In addition, a linear 4D simulation methodology was developed to improve the functions applicable to civil engineering projects, and ways to improve the utilization of the infrastructure projects as the construction phase BIM were suggested. In railway and road construction projects, most activities, such as earthwork, bridges, and tunnels proceed along the distance axis in a horizontal space. Therefore, a linear 4D simulation method, in which an activity is expressed along a distance axis, can be more practically useful rather than a simple 4D simulation method with a Gantt chart.

  • The ground source heat pump (GSHP) system has attracted much of attention, because of its stability of heat production and the high efficiency of the system. Performance of the heat exchanger is dependent on the soil temperature, the ground thermal conductivity, the operation schedule, the pipe placement and the design temperature. However, in spite of the many variables of these systems, there have been few research on the effect of the systems on system performance. In this study, analysis of the heat exchange rate according to soil temperature and grout material was conducted by numerical simulation. Furthermore, the heat distribution around the ground heat exchanger was presented on the different conditions of grout and underground temperature by the simulation.

  • Both simulation and expert systems are popular ways to solve complex and hard problems. However, the results of the simulation, which include a large amount of valuable information as a good knowledge source, are not used efficiently. Furthermore, the development of the expert systems can fail because there is no expert or an expert is not available. A new Simulation-Based Expert System(SIMBES) paradigm has been constructed to overcome these problems. It consists of simulator, feature extractor, machine learning system, performance evaluator and Knowledge-Based Expert System(KBES). A SIMBES was implemented for an existing schedule-based MRP system in Smalltalk/V to show how this paradigm works and experimented for a large number of jobs. The KBES and the existing system produced better schedules for 72 percent and 28 percent of the jobs, respectively.

  • Current construction simulation approaches mostly focus on operation aspects of construction projects, ignoring managerial aspects which can radically change operational profiles (e.g., number of resources, expected productivity level, or daily working hours) during the course of construction. As a result, these approaches may mislead construction managers into unrealistic execution plans as well as make them difficult to find potential performance improvement areas. As an effort to address this issue, this paper establishes a comprehensive construction modeling framework which integrates operational and managerial aspects of construction projects. The proposed modeling framework will provide construction managers with more accurate, more reliable, and more realistic simulation results thus reducing the likelihoods of schedule delays and cost overruns.

  • In this study, model-based $NH_4-N$ predictive control algorithm by using influent pattern was developed and evaluated for effective control application in $A^2/O$ process. A pilot-scale $A^2/O$process at S wastewater treatment plant in B city was selected. The behaviors of organic, nitrogen and phosphorous in the biological reactors were described by using the modified ASM3+Bio-P model. A one-dimensional double exponential function model was selected for modeling of the secondary settlers. The effluent $NH_4-N$ concentration on the next day was predicted according to model-based simulation by using influent pattern. After the objective effluent quality and simulation result were compared, the optimal operational condition which able to meet the objective effluent quality was deduced through repetitive simulation. Next the effluent $NH_4-N$ control schedule was generated by using the optimal operational condition and this control schedule on the next day was applied in pilot-scale $A^2/O$ process. DO concentration in aerobic reactor in predictive control algorithm was selected as the manipulated variable. Without control case and with control case were compared to confirm the control applicability and the study of the applied $NH_4-N$control schedule in summer and winter was performed to confirm the seasonal effect. In this result, the effluent $NH_4-N$concentration without control case was exceeded the objective effluent quality. However the effluent $NH_4-N$ concentration with control case was not exceeded the objective effluent quality both summer and winter season. As compared in case of without predictive control algorithm, in case of application of predictive control algorithm, the RPM of air blower was increased about 9.1%, however the effluent $NH_4-N$ concentration was decreased about 45.2%. Therefore it was concluded that the developed predictive control algorithm to the effluent $NH_4-N$ in this study was properly applied in a full-scale wastewater treatment process and was more efficient in aspect to stable effluent.

  • In shipbuilding, the scheduling system is susceptible to sudden changes and thus it turns to be difficult to predict the differences between schedule and production records in advance. A computer-based simulation is commonly utilized to overcome the discrepancies occurred in estimating workloads and resulting processing times. The main drawback of this simulation-based solution is its limited applicability because, in most cases, each shipyard requires specific and customized simulation environment. By standardizing the planning data of the midterm scheduling system, as proposed in this paper, the efficiency of the current simulation model can be enhanced. To present an alternative approach, this paper begins with the analysis of the complex planning data structure of several shipyards and then proceeds to construct a standard data structure based on the neutral format. An interface application is developed for the data transaction and simulation in on-line environment. As a result, a simulation-based production management of shipyards can be achieved by the efficient prediction of planning and scheduling.

  • A data allocation technique is essential to improve the performance of data broadcast systems. This paper explores the issues for allocating data items on broadcast channels to process multiple-data queries in the environment where query profiles and query request rates are given, and proposes a new data allocation scheme named QBDA. The proposed scheme allows the query with higher request rate to have higher priority to schedule its data items and introduces the concept of marking to reduce data conflicts. Simulation is performed to evaluate the performance of QBDA. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms other schemes in terms of the average response time since it can process queries with high request rate fast and show a very desirable characteristics in the aspects of query data adjacency and data conflict probability.

  • A capacity calculation and process analysis is a very important part for the entire ship production planning. Ship's production plan is set up with a concept that the product is produced based on the capacity achievable by the processes while general manufacturing sets up the production plan based on product lead-time. Therefore, in case the calculation of capacity for each process of shipbuilding yard is different from actual conditions, a series of production plan - ship table composition, dual schedule plan and execution schedule plan, etc - may accumulate errors, lose reliability of planning information and cause heavy cost deficit in this course. In particular, in case of new shipbuilding yard, stocks between processes are built up and half blocks are not supplied in timely manner, and that is sometimes due to the clumsiness of the operator but it is more often because of the capacity to execute each process is not logically calculated. Therefore, this paper presents the process to calculate the assembly leadtime and assembly process capacity for shipbuilding yard assembly factory. This paper calculated the block type for calculation of assembly lead time based on block DAP(detailed assembly procedure), and introduced cases that calculate production capacities by assembly surface plate by considering the surface plate occupied area of the blocks that change depending on assembly field area and assembly processes through assembly simulation.
