  • It is said that the verification effort occupies about 50-70 percent of the total effort of a System-On-A-Chip. This paper aims to develop a test bench automation tool based on the abstraction of the interface protocols. This tool will allow designers to describe their test benches in a high level language such as C rather than VHDL or Verilog. It helps designers to save their verification time and effort.

  • This study is an attempt to deduct environmental uncertainties facing next-generation convergence services, in four areas including customer, technology, service provider and regulation. We assess the level of residual uncertainty with regard to key environmental uncertainty factors, and conduct a scenario planning analysis. Based on the results of this analysis, we provide suggestions on market entry strategy for providers of this next-generation convergence service. The strategic assessment of six scenarios developed in this study, each with two levels of residual uncertainty (alternate futures and a range of futures) resulted in two key success factors (KSF), namely, customer demand trends and easing of advertising restrictions. Four types of strategic scenarios were then discerned, for each of which we present response capabilities that may be required of service providers, along with strategic suggestions. The results of this study are rich in implications for both policy-makers and regulators seeking ways to create and stimulate a convergence service market and prospective providers of next-generation convergence services, as they provide concrete tips related to market entry strategy, including efficient resource allocation, types of market entry and time-frames for entry.

Study of fuel cell CHP-technology on electricity generation sector using LEAP-model (LEAP 모형을 이용한 연료전지 열병합발전설비 도입에 따른 온실가스배출저감 잠재량 분석)

  • We study about small gas engine and fuel cell CHP (Combined Heat and Power) as the technologies for energy conservation and $CO_2$ emissions reduction. Korea government plans to use them in near future. This study quantitatively analyzed energy consumption and $CO_2$ emissions reduction potential of small CHP instead of existing electric power plant (coal steam, combined cycle and oil steam) using LEAP (Long-range Energy Alternative Planning system) as energy-economic model. Three future scenarios are discussed. In every scenario similar condition for each CHP is used. Alternative scenario I: about 6.34% reduction in $CO_2$ emissions is observed in 2019 due to increase in amount of gas engine CHP and fuel cell CHP while coal use in thermoelectric power plant is almost stagnant. In alternative scenario II: a small 0.8% increase in $CO_2$ emission is observed in 2019 keeping conditions similar to alternative scenario I but using natural gas in combined cycle power plant instead of coal. During alternative scenario II overall $CO_2$ emission reduction is observed in 2019 due to added heat production from CHP. Alternative scenario III: about 0.8% reduction in $CO_2$ emissions is observed in 2019 using similar CHP as AS I and AS II. Here coal and oil are used in thermoelectric power plant but the quantity of oil and coal is almost constant for next decade.

Assessing Alternative Renewable Energy Policies in Korea's Electricity Market

  • This paper, focusing on the renewable portfolio standard (RPS), evaluates alternative renewable energy policies. We propose a tractable equilibrium model which provides a structural representation of Korea's electricity market, including its energy settlement system and renewable energy certificate (REC) transactions. Arbitrage conditions are used to define the core value of REC prices to identify relevant competitive equilibrium conditions. The model considers R&D investments and learning effects that may affect the development of renewable energy technologies. The model is parameterized to represent the baseline scenario under the currently scheduled RPS reinforcement for a 20% share of renewable generation, and then simulated for alternative scenarios. The result shows that the reinforcement of the RPS leads to higher welfare compared to weakening it as well as repealing it, though there remains room to enhance welfare. It turns out that subsidies are welfare-inferior to the RPS due to financial burdens and that reducing nuclear power generation from the baseline yields lower welfare by worsening environmental externalities.

  • 본 논문에서는 차세대 EMS(Next Generation Energy Management System : NG-EMS) 급전원 훈련 시뮬레이터(Dispatcher Training Simulator : DTS)의 이벤트 시나리오 기능 개발 및 모의에 대해 기술한다. DTS는 EMS 급전원의 훈련을 위한 시스템으로서 EMS와 동일한 동적인 환경에서 시스템 조작, 사고모의 및 사고복구 기능을 제공한다. 이벤트 시나리오 기능은 급전원 훈련교관의 훈련 진행을 위해 필요한 기능으로 이벤트, 이벤트그룹, 요청이벤트, 조건이벤트, 시간이벤트, 시나리오로 구성한다.

  • The next generation Internet protocol(IPv6: Internet Protocol version 6) has been introduced to overcome the limitations of IPv4 and will be essential element for our industry environment. Transition to IPv6 is not simply replacing a protocol but complex work which affects the whole network. So, the accomplishment of appropriate plans and the systematic transition activities are required. In this paper, we examined the necessity of IPv6 transition and suggested the transition strategy in major parts of transition, such as networks, applications, and address management system.

  • Forecasting long-term mobile service demand is inevitable to establish an effective frequency management policy despite the lack of reliability of forecast results. The statistical forecasting method has limitations in analyzing how the forecasting result changes when the scenario for various drivers such as consumer usage pattern or market structure for mobile communication service is changed. In this study, we propose a dynamic model of the mobile communication service market using system dynamics technique and forecast the future demand for long-term mobile communication subscriber based on the dynamic model, and also experiment on the change pattern of subscriber demand under various scenarios.

  • As facing the rapid advance of information technologies, the postal service is required to have capabilities of real-time logistics characterized by collaboration, ubiquity and intelligence which are necessary to the organizational management. In this study we discuss the design of the next generation information system based on real-time enterprise strategy to achieve real-time integrity and upgrade of postal information system. After briefly addressing the issues on developing information system and current situation, we provide the design direction and the framework of the to-be system. We develop detailed specification of each subsystem and provide an operational scenario. We believe when this framework is put into use, it can contribute to competitive performance by giving the integrity and consistency in implementing information systems of the Korea Postal Service.

  • Islanded operation of a microgrid can ensure the reliable operation of the system when a large accident occurs in the main grid. However, because the generation capability of a microgrid is typically limited, a microgrid operator should take islanded operation risk into account in scheduling its generation resources. To address this problem, in this paper we have proposed two unit commitment formulations based on the islanding scenario that reflect the expected and worst-case values of the islanded operation risk. An optimal resource scheduling strategy is obtained for the microgrid operator by solving these optimization problem, and the effectiveness of the proposed method is investigated by numerical simulations.

GNSS Error Generation Simulator for Signal Quality Monitoring of KASS

  • In this paper, a GNSS error generation simulator for Signal Quality Monitoring (SQM) is implemented by using Matlab based on mathematical models derived from the effect of GNSS signal and measurement errors. The GNSS signal measurement errors of interest in this paper include three cases such as Evil Wave Form (EWF), Multipath (MP) and Radio Frequency Interference (RFI). In order to verify the validity of the generated measurement errors, a simple form of metrics for detecting and monitoring GNSS errors is included in the simulator. The GNSS errors generated by the simulator are added to the GNSS measurement data from commercial GNSS receiver in real time, and then, the SQM is tested for various scenarios of each case configured by scenario setting of the user.
