  • $TiO_2$ hollow spheres were fabricated by using $SiO_2$ as an inorganic template. Spherical $SiO_2$ particles were coated by $TiO_2$ through the nucleation process, and then the core $SiO_2$ part was eliminated by using HF solution. Finally, $TiO_2$ hollow spheres were obtained. The size of the $TiO_2$ hollow spheres was about 300-400 nm and the thickness of the hollow wall was about 20-30 nm. The hollow has several holes whose diameters were within 100-200 nm. Dye-sensitized solar cells fabricated by using the $TiO_2$ hollow spheres were characterized. The solar conversion efficiency of the cell was 8.45% when $TiO_2$ hollow spheres were used as a scattering material, while it was 4.59% when $TiO_2$ hollow spheres were used as a normal electrode material.

  • The angular dispersion-type non-scanning Fabry-Perot was applied to an ethanol-water mixture in order to investigate its acoustic properties such as the sound velocity and the absorption coefficient. The scattered light from the mixture was analyzed by using the charge-coupled-device area detector, which made the measurement time much shorter than that obtained by using the conventional scanning tandem multi-pass Fabry-Perot interferometer. The sound velocity showed a deviation from ultrasonic sound velocities at low temperatures accompanied by the increase in the absorption coefficient, indicating acoustic dispersion due to the coupling between the acoustic waves and some relaxation process. Based on a simplified viscoelastic theory, the temperature dependence of the relaxation time was obtained. The addition of water molecules to ethanol reduced the relaxation time, consistent with dielectric measurements. The present study showed that the angular dispersion-type Fabry-Perot interferometer combined with an area detector could be a very powerful tool in the real-time monitoring of the acoustic properties of condensed matter.

  • In order to analyze the discharge-pumped KrF excimer laser, computer simulation code is developed. On the other hand, the electron velocity distribution in a discharge plasma, measured by the Thomson scattering method, showed the Maxwellian, while the code predicted non-Maxwellian. This disagreement was solved by introducing the electron-electron collision into the simulation code. We also developed a simulation code on the CO2 laser-heated plasma in high-pressure Ar gas, and estimated the formation process of Ar2 excimer. The code predicted the possibility of the Ar2 laser action at 126 nm.

  • A fine carbon fibers dispersion model is implemented to calculate the scattering range and ground level concentration of carbon fibers emitted at certain altitudes of atmospheric boundary layer. This carbon fibers dispersion model was composed by coupling a commonly used atmospheric dispersion model and an atmospheric boundary layer model. The atmospheric boundary layer model, applying the Monin-Obukov Similarity Rule obtained from measurement input data at ground level, was used to create the atmospheric boundary layer structure. In the atmospheric dispersion model, the Lagrangian Particle Model and the Markov Process were applied to calculate the trajectory of scattered carbon fibers relative to gravity and aerodynamic force, as well as carbon fibers specification.

  • Experimental measurements of flame structure and soot characteristics were performed for ethene inverse diffusion flames (IDF). IDF has been considered as the excellent flow field to study the incipient soot because soot particle do not experience the oxidation process. In this study, LIF image clarified the reaction zone of IDF with OH signal and PAH distribution. laser light scattering technique also identified the being of soot particle. To address the degree of soot maturing, C/H ratio and morphology of soot sample were investigated. From these measurements, the effect of flow residence time and temperature on soot inception could be suggested, and more details on soot characteristic in the IDF was determined according to fuel dilution and flame condition. The fuel dilution results in a decrease of temperature and enhancement of residence time, but the critical dilution mole fraction is existed for temperature not to effect on soot growth. Also, the soot inception evolved on the specific temperature and its morphology are independent of the fuel dilution ratio of fuel.

  • This paper is the first of 3 companion papers which investigate axial stratification process. In-cylinder fuel behavior has been investigated in the port injected SI engine by visualization for the purpose of understanding stratification. Planar laser light sheet from an Nd:YAG laser has been illuminated through the transparent quartz cylinder of the single cylinder optical engine and the Mie scattered light has been replaced with an air-ethanol mixture to utilize atomized fuel spray for the visualization purposes. This results have been compared with steady flow concentration measurement. For no swirl port, the axial penetration depends on the fuel injection timing. The fuel tends to remain in the upper region of the cylinder far from the spark plug and the distribution is not affected by the injection timing except 90 ATDC.

  • We present a model that rotating primordial blackholes(PBHs) produced at the end of inflation generate the random, non-oriented primordial magnetic field. PBHs are copiously produced as the Universe completes the cosmic phase transition via bubble nucleation and tunneling processes in the extended inflation hypothesis. The PBHs produced acquire angular momentum through the mutual tidal gravitational interaction. For PBHs of mass less than 1013g, one can show that the evaporation (photon) luminosity of PBHs exceeds the Eddington limit. Thus throughout the lifetime of the rotating PBH, radiation flow from the central blackhole along the Kerr-geodesic exerts torque to ambient plasma. In the process similar to the Bierman's battery mechanism electron current reaching up to the horizon scale is induced. For PBHs of Grand Unified Theories extended inflation with the symmetry breaking temperature of $T_{GUT}\;\~\;10^{10}$ GeV, which evaporate near decoupling, we find that they generate random, non-oriented magnetic fields of $\~10^{-11}G$ on the last-scattering surface on (the present comoving) scales of $\~O(10)Mpc$.

  • This paper suggests a novel method to efficiently calculate the spatial-domain Green's functions of 2D electromagnetic problems Briefly speaking, this method combines spectral and spatial domain calculation schemes and prevents the Green's functions from poor convergence due to the singularities that complicate the process of the Method of Moment(MoM) applications For the validation of this proposed method, fields will be evaluated along the spatial distance including zero distance for 2D free-space and periodic homogeneous geometry The numerical results show the validity of the prosed method and correspondng physics.

  • Constant volume combustion chamber has been designed to investigate diesel spray characteristics with Common-Rail injection system to realize high pressure injection. In this study, two methods of measurements, Schlieren shadowgraphy and Mie scattering imaging method ate applied experimentally to study spray form and liquid phase zone in high pressure, high temperature conditions. Diesel fuel is injected at the point which ignited mixture gas is completely burned. The effect of injection pressure, injector hole diameter, ambient gas temperature and density are investigated experimentally.

  • Ordered mesoporous materials with a hydrothermally-stable, protozeolitic framework were prepared by exploring the direct conversion of inorganic species based on co-surfactant templating systems. To confer hydrothermal stability on the mesoporous aterials, the organic-inorganic hybrids were heat-treated in strongly basic media. Co-surfactant templating systems of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide [$C_{16}H_{13}(CH_{3})_{3}$NBr, CTAB] with 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene (TMB) or a nonionic block copolymer of poly(ethylene oxide )-b-poly(propylene oxide )-b-poly(ethylene oxide) ($EO_{20}PO_{70}EO_{20}$) were employed to improve the hydrothermal stability of the organic-inorganic self-assembly during the solid rearrangement process of the inorganic species. The mesoscopic ordering of the pore structure and geometry was identified by X-ray diffraction, small angle neutron scattering and electron microscopy.
