The effect of carbon nanotube surface treatment on the interface and thermal conductivity of carbon nanotube-based poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) composites was investigated. Coagulation and atomic-transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) was applied to modify the surface of multi-wall carbon nano-tube. The composite of ATRP method used carbon nanotube showed the higher transparency and thermal conductivities than that of the coagulation method used. In comparison to the thermal conductivity of pure PMMA, 0.21 W/mK, the ATRP carbon nanotube used PMMA/MWNT composite showed a thermal conductivity of 0.38 W/mK. The interface between carbon nanotube and PMMA was observed by scanning electron microscope and uniform dispersion of carbon nanotube was observed without any void in the PMMA matrix. It may be beneficial to transport the phonon without any scattering and it may result in a higher thermal conductivity.

The IPO(Iterative Physical Optics) method repeatedly applies the well-known PO(Physical Optics) approximation to calculate the scattered field by a large object. Thus, the IPO method can consider the multiple scattering in the object, which is ignored for the PO approximation. This kind of iteration can improve the final accuracy of the induced current on the scatterer, which can result in the enhancement of the accuracy of the RCS(Radar Cross Section) of the scatterer. Since the IPO method can not exactly but approximately solve the required integral equation, however, the convergence of the IPO solution can not be guaranteed. Hence, we apply the famous techniques used in the inversion of a matrix to the IPO method, which include Jacobi, Gauss-Seidel, SOR(Successive Over Relaxation) and Richardson methods. The proposed IPO methods can efficiently calculate the RCS of a large scatterer, and are numerically verified.

Infrared transmission images from GaAs semi insulating wafers were considered for years as directly related to the quantum absorption by electrons on fundamental states of deep centers, especially EL2. The satisfying correspondence of these images with the dislocations revealed by etching or X ray topography or infrared tomography led to the opinion that a strong concentration of EL2 centers was to be expected in the immediate vicinity of the dislocations. More recent work indicates that contrary to the expected behavior the photoqu$\acute{e}$nching of transmission images at T=80K does not appreciably change the image structure itself but more largely the uniform background level of absorption. Such investigations show that the transmission images of isolated dislocations (Indium doped materials) or cell structures of tangled dislocations (undoped materials) can be partly attributed to scattered light; similar operation at T=10K removes the dark features associated to EL2 but still preserves the skeleton of the pattern which is due to scattering. A result of the measurements is that dislocations must not be considered any longer as inexhaustive EL2 reservoirs. The lifetime of the photoqu$\acute{e}$nching mechanism is shown to vary differently for EL2 centers located close to the dislocations or in the matrix. In this paper we will develop the details of infrared image photoqu$\acute{e}$nching experiments in the vicinity of dislocations; undoped and In doped GaAs materials will be shown. These results will be discussed in the light of surface etching experiments.

The method of moments(MoM) is one of the most popular integral-equation-based full-wave simulation methods, and the multi-level fast multipole method(MLFMM) algorithm can be used for its efficient calculation. When calculating the surface current on the large scatterer in the MoM or MLFMM, iterative methods for the final matrix inversion are used. Among them, BiCGstab(l) has been widely adopted due to its good convergence rate. The number of iterations can be reduced when l becomes larger, but the number of operations per iteration is increased. Herein, we analyze the computational complexity of BiCGstab(l) in the MLFMM method and propose an optimum choice of l.

The program for dielectric ceramic waveguide filter was developed based on the direct coupled filter of ${\lambda}/2$ step impedance prototype. This developed program was called DWFD(Direct coupled Waveguide Filter Design). The filter was designed by 3-dimensional laminated type to reduce the size at the 1 GHz. S scattering matrix for this filter was calculated using the DWFD program. The width of inductive irises for laminated filter was computed by HFSS simulation tool. This waveguide filter was designed by 8 poles with bandwidth 25 MHz at the center frequency 881.5 MHz. By using a dielectric constant 35.4 and laminated type, the size of filter was reduced with width 50 mm and height 48 mm rapidly. We can see that the measured results agree well with the HFSS simulation result. Finally, this paper is shown that the design and implementation of waveguide filters can be presented by using DWFD program simply.
Pure Pt, Co and their alloy thin films with three different compositions (Pt66-Co34, Pt40-Co60 and Pt18-Co82) were deposited on Si(100) wafers and proposed as a set of certified reference materials (CRM) for the quantification and standardization of surface compositional analysis. The compositions of the binary alloy thin films were controlled by in-situ XPS analyses and the certified compositions of the films have been determined by ICP-AES and RBS analyses after thin film growth. Through comparison of the compositions determined by in-situ XPS with those by ICP, relatively accurate compositions could be obtained with a matrix effect correction. Standard deviations of XPS and AES round robin tests with the Pt-Co alloy thin films were large up to about 4%. On the other hand, the average compositions of the Pt-Co alloy thin films by two methods were in a good agreement within 1%. The formation of a Pt rich surface layer by ion beam sputtering indicates that the surface modification by preferential sputtering must be understood for a better compositional analysis.
A sudden step change is observed in the vertical position readings from beam position monitors (BPMs) mounted at the several sector vacuum chambers of Pohang Light Source. To study the source of this sudden step change, we measured the RF transmission scattering matrix (S21) through the pickup electrodes of BPMs mounted at the both ends of the sector vacuum chamber. The measured $S_{21}$ graph of the sector vacuum chambers suffering sudden step change has a peak in the BPM operation frequency bandwidth. Otherwise that of the other sector vacuum chambers doesn't have a peak. It is shown by the numerical simulation that the peak found in the BPM operation frequency bandwidth corresponds to the longitudinal harmonic of transverse electric resonance mode.
Spectroscopic investigation of Si quantum dots (Si-QDs) embedded in silicon nitride was performed over a broad stoichiometry range to optimize light emission. Plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition was used to grow the $SiN_x$ films on Si (001) substrates. The film composition was controlled via the flow ratio of silane ($SiH_4$) and ammonia ($NH_3$) in the range of R = 0.45-1.0 allowed to vary the Si excess in the range of 21-62 at.%. The films were submitted to annealing at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 30 min in nitrogen to form the Si-QDs. The properties of as-deposited and annealed films were investigated using spectroscopic ellipsometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman scattering and photoluminescence (PL) methods. Si-QDs were detected in $SiN_x$ films demonstrating the increase of sizes with Si excess. The residual amorphous Si clusters were found to be present in the films grown with Si excess higher than 50 at.%. Multi-component PL spectra at 300 K in the range of 1.5-3.5 eV were detected and nonmonotonous varying total PL peak versus Si excess was revealed. To identify the different PL components, the temperature dependence of PL spectra was investigated in the range of 20-300 K. The analysis allowed concluding that the "blue-orange" emission is due to the radiative defects in a $SiN_x$ matrix, whereas the "red" and "infrared" PL bands are caused by the exciton recombination in crystalline Si-QDs and amorphous Si clusters. The nature of radiative and no radiative defects in $SiN_x$ films is discussed. The ways to control the dominant PL emission mechanisms are proposed.
The effect of heat treatment on mechanical properties of 0.4C-2.3Si(wt%) steel with bainitic ferrite matrix were investigated. This steel has been synthesized intergrating concepts from TRIP(Transformation Induced Plasticity) steel & Austempered Ductile Cast Iron(ADI) technology. The low alloy medium carbon (0.4 %C) steel with high silicon (2.3 %Si) was initially annealed for 60 min at $800^{\circ}C$, $820^{\circ}C$ and $840^{\circ}C$ respectively in the intercritical region and then subsequently austempered at various temperatures at $260^{\circ}C$, $320^{\circ}C$ and $380^{\circ}C$ for 30 min in a salt bath. The mechanical properties were measured by using a tensile test. A detailed study of the microstructure of this steel after heat treatment was carried out by means of electron back scattering diffraction (EBSD) technic. In this study, a new low alloy steel with high strength (780~1,050MPa) and exceptionally high ductility (20~40%) was obtained.
This steel has been synthesized integrating concepts from Austempering Ductile Cast Iron (ADI) technology. While ADI has excellent mechanical and physical properties, the Young's modules of ADI is approximately 20% lower than steel. In addition, the presence of graphite nodules in ADI can be sites of crack initiation, where fracture takes place at graphite matrix interface. Because of this limitations of ADI, there has been a growing interest in austempered steels as structural materials in resent years. In this investigation, a new steel with microstructure composed of ferrite and austenite and with simultaneous high tensile strength (1,150 MPa) and high ductility (33%) was developed. The goal of this investigation is to obtain a better understanding of deformation and transformation behaviour in high carbon retained austenite(${\gamma}_{HC}$) and over-saturated ferrite(${\alpha}$) during the plastic deformation. A detailed study of the microstructure of this steel was carried out by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electron back scattering diffraction (EBSD) technic. In this way it was shown that BCC phase (BCC) took up the larger part of the nominal strain whereas the a part of retained austenite responded to the mechanincal load by partial martensite transformation, and misorientation change in the retained austenite after plastic strain could be attributed to the large elongation.
