저출력레이저치료가 어깨통증에 미치는 임상적 효과 (The Clinical Effects of Low Level Laser Therapy on Shoulder Pain)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical effects of low level laser therapy on shoulder pain. Methods : From October 1, 2009 to November 14, 2009, we applied 15 participants who consented to an assignment had a shoulder pain to low level laser therapy(LLLT). We treated LLLT 8 times on both upper trapezius, levator scapular, pectoralis, suboccipital, rhomboid, rotator cuff tender point for 2 weeks. To evaluate the efficiency of low level laser therapy, we used questionnaire of shoulder pain symptom, questionnaire of a day living discomfort scale, shoulder pain and disability index(SPADI) and pressure pain threshold(PPT) at before treatment and after treatment 4 times and 8 times. Results : There was a significant difference in questionnaire of shoulder pain symptom, questionnaire of a day living discomfort scale, SPADI and PPT after 8th treatment. Conclusions : Low level laser therapy for shoulder pain is effective to improve patients' symptoms measured with questionnaire of pain and a day living discomfort score, SPADI and PPT significantly.

  • Background: There are insufficient objective or quantitative evidence for the better intervention to improve proprioception particularly for the application of external load. There are conflicting opinions whether the external load is effective for proprioception improvement or not. Objects: The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of external load on proprioception of shoulder joint quantitatively using 3D motion capture system. Methods: Nine healthy adults joined for this study. They were asked to perform scapular plane abduction motion with attaching reflective markers on the trunk and upper limb. The 3D positions of finger marker, while they performed the same task with and without external load, were recorded and analyzed. Results: All participants showed decreased variable errors in the vertical direction when the external load was applied (p<.02). Even though other directions (y, z) and absolute errors increased, they did not have statistical significances. Conclusion: Based on this study results, the external load application would be effective for shoulder joint position sense improvement.

칼슘 급원의 종류가 흰쥐의 체내 칼슘 및 골격대사에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Various Types of Calcium Sources on Calcium and Bone Metabolism in Rats)

  • This study was performed to investigate the effect of various types of calcium sources on calcium and bone metabolism. Sprague-Dawley male rats weighing approximately 89.3g were divided into 4 groups and fed experimental diets containing 0.5% calcium for 5 weeks. Four different calcium salts were used for the study : calcium phosphate, calcium lactate, calcium gluconate, and calcium carbonate. Food intake showed no significant difference n accordance with the type of calcium salt, but bo요 weight gain and food efficiency were lower in calcium gluconate and calcium carbonate groups. There was significant differences in liver, thymus and epididymal fat pad weight with the of calcium salt ; the calcium gluconate group showed lower values compared to the other groups. Femur and scapular length were higher in calcium lactate and calcium carbonate groups. Wet weight, dry weight, and density of the femur tended to be lower in the calcium gluconate group than the other groups, but this difference was not statistically significant. The calcium content of the other groups. The calcium gluconate group showed higher urinary calcium and lower calcium absorption and balance. In conclusion, calcium and bone metabolism were different according to the type of calcium sources consumed.

결합조직형성 섬유종 - 2례 보고 - (Desmoplastic Fibroma - 2 Cases Report -)

  • 결합조직형성 섬유종은 골에 발생하는 종양중 매우 드문 종양으로, 조직학적으로나 생물학적 성상이 연부조직에 발생하는 복강외 섬유종과 유사하다. 저자들은 22세 남자에 발생한 견갑골 병변과, 34세 남자에 발생한 치골병변을 보고하는 바이다. 방사선학적으로 종양은 골융해성 병변으로, 팽창성 성장을 하였다. 조직학적으로, 다량의 교원질 섬유를 함유하고 있는 방추형 세포로 구성되어 있다. 광범위 절제술을 시행하였으며, 재발은 없었다. 골에 원발성으로 발생하는 결합조직형성 섬유종은 매우 드문 골 종양으로 참고문헌과 함께 보고하는 바이다.

  • Hemangiopericytoma is a rare tumor of blood vessels, first described and named by Stout and Murray in 1942, arising from the contractile, elongated cells which surround capillaries originated from the pericytes of Zimmermann. It can develop anywhere there are capillaries and mostly in the connective tissue of the human body. It can also develop at any age from 12 to 90 years old, and the rate of metastasis and prognosis vary with its histologic finding, We report three cases of hemangiopericytoma - one recurred in the right forearm where a tumor was excised 15 years ago, another occurred in the left pubis which metastasized to lung and head, the other metastasized from the lung to the right scapular area - treated at the department of orthopaedic surgery, Hanyang University Hospital from 1989 to 1995.

유착성 관절낭염 환자에 대한 테이프 적용이 관절가동범위와 통증감소에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Taping Therapy on the ROM and VAS in Adhesive Capsulitis)

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of taping therapy for adhesive capsulitis patients. The subjects were consisted of 40, male 18, female 22, average age was 59 years old. To find out the effectiveness of taping therapy, we sampled 20 patients treated with H/P, electrical therapy and scapular pattern & hold-relax technique of PNF(control group), and 20 patients treated same as control group with taping therapy(experimental group). The results were as follow : 1. There was a statistical significance of shoulder flexion, abduction, external rotation and VAS in both group(P<0.05). 2. There was not statistical significance of shoulder flexion and external rotation(P>0.05), but abduction had a statistical significance between taping group and non-taping group(P<0.05). 3. VAS was observed a statistical significance between 3rd and 4th post treatment(P<0.05). These results are imply that taping therapy has a effectiveness of shoulder motion and VAS for adhesive capsulitis.

Comparison of the Muscle Activities of Upper Trapezius and Middle Deltoid between Subjects with and without Elevation of Shoulder Girdle during Arm Elevation

  • Purpose: Muscle imbalance between upper trapezius (UT) and serratus anterior (SA) during arm elevation is a factor causing shoulder dysfunction. However, there is no study to compare the muscle activities of the UT and middle deltoid (MD). The purpose of this study was to compare the muscle activities of the UT and MD between with and without elevation of shoulder girdle (ESG) during shoulder abduction. Methods: The subjects without (control group=9) or with (ESG group=8) participated in this study. The muscle activities of the UT and MD were measured using a electromyography during $90^{\circ}$ shoulder abducted position in both group. The data in middle of 3-second of the 5-second periods were used. The mean value of three trials was used in the data analysis. For each muscle, independent t-tests were performed to compare for group differences. Results: The muscle activity of UT was significantly greater in ESG group, compared to that of the control group (p<0.05). The muscle activity of MD was significantly smaller in ESG group, compared to that of the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings showed that low muscle activation of MD as well as SA may contribute to hyperactivity of UT during arm elevation.

운전석 체압분포 기반의 착좌전략 분류 (A Classification of Sitting Strategies Based on Seating Pressure Distribution)

  • Drivers' sitting strategies are considered in car seat design. Existing research has identified representative sitting strategies by visual inspection of seating pressure measurements collected from a small sample size of drivers. The present study recruited 20 female and 20 male participants, measured seating pressure, and classified sitting strategies by cluster analysis. The participants' sitting postures were classified based on seating pressure distribution into mid-back and scapular, mid-back and lumbar, and lumbar sitting strategies for the upper body and hip concentrated, hip and mid-thigh concentrated, and hip and mid-thigh distributed sitting strategies for the lower body. The effects of gender and occupant package layout (OPL) on sitting strategy were nout found significant. The identified sitting strategies would be of use for the design and evaluation of an OPL and a seat.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of dietray carbohydrate level on the lipid and Ca metabolism, and on immune response in the process of aging. Sprag\ulcornerue - Dawley male rats of 12 months of age were fed either high carbohydrate or low carbohydrate diet for 9 months. With increasing age from 12 months to 21 months, there was no significant increase in body weight, however, the epididymal fat pat weight and total serum lipid tend to become higher, and the inorganic/organic matterratio in bone tends to become lower. This suggests that body fat accumulation increase and bone mass decrease with age. Rats fed low carbohydrate diet showed the higher epididymal fat pat weight, and the lower Ca content in femur and scapular compared to high carbohydrate diet fed rats. The immune response was also lower in low carbohydrate diet group judged by the lower thymus and spleen index and by the lower response to PHA and ConA stimulation. The results of this study suggests that the dietary level of carbohydrate and fat may play an important role in the process of aging. It could be recommended to practice high carbohydrate -low fat diet for the elderly to reduce the risk of degenerative diseases.

이소플라본과 포도종실유의 보충이 난소절제 흰쥐의 혈중지질 패턴 및 골격강도에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Isoflavone and/or Grape Seed Oil Supplementation on Blood Lipid Profiles and Bone Strength in Ovariectomized Female Rats)

  • The study was performed to investigate the effects of isoflavone and/or grape seed oil supplementation on serum and liver lipid profiles and bone strength in ovariectomized female rats. Female Spraque-Dawley rats were assigned into 4 groups of ovariectomized (O), isoflavone (0.085 mg/100 g b.w/day) in ovariectomized rats, grape seed oil in ovariectomized rats and isoflavone and/or grape seed oil in ovariectomized rats. After 8 weeks, biochemical profiles of serum, liver and bone were analyzed. Total food intakes, body weight gains and FER (food efficiency ratio) were not statistically significantly different among groups. Total cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL-cholesterol levels in serum were decreased by fed of isoflavone and/or grape seed oils. However, crude lipid and total cholesterol contents in liver were not affect of isoflavone and/or grape seed oil. The hepatic glutathione contents were increased by isoflavone and/or grape seed oil fed. The hepatic glutathione-S-transferase activity in isoflavone and/or grape seed oil supplemented groups were higher than that O group. Bone (scapular and femur bone) dry weight, femur of max weight and bending strength were no significant difference among groups. Our finding suggest that isoflavone/grape seed oils might have potential role for serum lipid profiles improvement and bone strength in vivo.
