  • We report QLA (Quenching-rate controlled Laser Annealing) system as new concept using pulsed DPSSL and CW lasers. This process can control temperature quenching-rate of poly-Si crystallization by additional CW laser and fabricate high quality poly-Si with faster scanning speed than conventional processes. In this paper, QLA system, the experimental results and theoretical discussion will be introduced.

  • A large scale programmable controller is developed which adopts a multiprocessor structure. The developed programmable controller consists of the programmer, the system controller, and the input-output unit. The structure and characteristics of the system controller will be described. The PC has a special hardware scheme to solve the Boolean logic instructions of the sequence control programs. The multiprocessor structure and the special hardware enables, the real time operation and the high speed scanning which is prerequisite to the large scale, programmable controller even for many I/O points.

  • InSb thin films were fabricated by zone melting recrystallization of In/Sb multilayered thin films prepared by sequential evaporation. Unreacted metal phase or dispersed metal precipitates lowered the electron mobility and the electron mobility increased with development of (111) prefered orientation. Properties of the film could be controlled by changing mzximum temperature and scanning speed, and the electron mobility as high as 12, 000 cm $^2$/Vsec could be obtained under the optimized conditions.

Effect of Melt-mixing Conditions on Fracture Properties of Bioabsorbable HA/PLLA Composite Materials (생체흡수성 HA/PLLA 복합재료의 용융혼련조건이 파괴특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Effects of melt-mixing conditions on fracture properties of hydroxyapatite filled bioabsorbable poly(L-lactic acid)(HA/PLLA) composites was investigated by measuring the firacture toughness value of HA/PLLA composites prepared under different mixing time and rotor speed. The fracture surface morphology was also examined by profile measurement and scanning electron microscopies. It was found that the fracture toughness of HA/PLLA composites decreases due to decrease of ductile deformation of PLLA matrix and debonding of interfaces with increase of the rotor speed and mixing time. Effect of mixing process on neat PLLA was also assessed, and it was found that the fracture toughness of PLLA decreases due to disappearance of multiple craze formation and increase of defects. Such thermal and shear-stress degradation were found to be the primary mechanisms of the degradation of HA/PLLA composites during melt-mixing process.

  • When cutting 2.0cm-thick red oak and hard maple with an air-jet-assisted carbon-dioxide laser of 2kW output power, maximum feed speed at the point of full penetration of the beam decreased with increasing the angle between grain and cutting direction. Feed speed averaged 3.75 and 3.38 meters per minute for red oak and hard maple, respectively. Gray-level of laser-cut surfaces were analyzed by image analysis system. The highest gray level of laser-cut surface was obtained when red oak was cut parallel to grain by laser. Surface profiler was used to scan the sawn and laser-cut surfaces. Center line average roughnesses of laser-cut surfaces were higher than those of sawn surfaces. Scanning electron micrographs showed the cell walls which were melted by laser.

  • Five institutions, which are very active in data utilization of environmental satellites NOAA and GMS, are connected via high speed networks to construct the databases based on the observations of A AVHRR (Advanced very High Resolution Radiometer) of NOAA satellite and VISSR (Visible and Infrared Scanning Radiometer) of GMS (Geostationary Meteorological Satellite) and to create scientific data sets for land, ocean and ,atmosphere. And vegetation index, sea surface temperature, cloud distribution maps and so on are generated by high speed and huge volume data Processing for studies on long term variations of land, ocean and atmosphere in Asia.   • A CCD camera with a laser stripe was applied to realize the automatic weld seam tracking in GMAW. It takes relatively long time to process image on-line control using the basic Hough transformation, but it has a tendency of robustness over the noises such as spatter and arc tight. For this reason, it was complemented with adaptive Hough transformation to have an on-line processing ability for scanning specific weld points. The adaptive Hough transformation was used to extract laser stripes and to obtain specific weld points. The 3-dimensional information obtained from the vision system made it possible to generate the weld torch path and to obtain the information such as width and depth of weld line. In this study, a neural network based on the generalized delta rule algorithm was adapted for the process control of GMA, such as welding speed, arc voltage and wire feeding speed.

  • A light guide panel is an element of the LCD backlight module that is often used for the display of compact electronic devices. In this study, a laser marking system is proposed to fabricate light guide panel, which can replace other manufacturing methods such as silk printing, stamping, or v-cutting methods. The objective of this research is to evaluate the process parameters of the laser marking system. Light guide patterns were marked with a 50W $CO_2$ laser (CW) to understand the effects of average power and scanning speed on the geometry and quality of groove pattern. The width of the fabricated grooves increases with increasing laser power and decreasing scan speed. In order to analyze surface characteristics and optical properties (luminance, uniformity), SEM photography and BM7 (luminance measuring system) were used. As a result, the optimal conditions of the process parameters were determined.

A Study on individual Diesel Particles by SEM/EDX (SEM/EDX를 이용한 디젤 분진의 입자별 분석)

  • Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) has played an important role in receptor modeling area because it is a powerful tool for characterizing individual particles. The purpose of the study was to classify individual diesel particles base on statistical analysis and image analysis by SEM/EDX (energy dispersive x-ray analyser). The diesel particles were sampled by both a modified CVS 75 mode and a high speed mode with a chassis dynamometer. The SEM/EDX system provides various physical parameters including particle's particle diameter and chemical information. Thus density and mass of the diesel particle were estimated cased on its chemical composition and further fractal dimensions of the diesel particle were obtained by the Hurst exponent method. The fractal dimension in the sample of modified CVS 75 mode was higher than the high speed mode. Finally, mass fractions for a diesel vehicle as a source profile were estimated cased on a particle class concept.
