  • In this paper, we design a GA-fuzzy precompensator for enhancement of power system stability. Here, a fuzzy prerompensator is designed as a fuzzy logic-based precompensation approach for Power System Stabilizer(PSS). This scheme is easily implemented simply by adding a fuzzy precompensator to an existing PSS. And we optimize the fuzzy precompensator with a genetic algorithm for complements the demerit such as the difficulty of the component selection of fuzzy controller, namely, scaling factor, membership function and control rules. Simulation results show that the proposed control technique is superior to a conventional PSS in dynamic responses over the wide range of operating conditions and is convinced robustness and reliableness in view of structure.

  • This paper examines the contribution of three sources of uncertainties to probabilistic seismic behaviour of wood frame buildings, including ground motions, intensity and seismic mass. This sensitivity analysis is performed using three methods, including the traditional method based on the conditional distributions of ground motions at given intensity measures, a method using the summation of conditional distributions at given ground motion records, and the Monte Carlo simulation. FEMA P-695 ground motions and its scaling methods are used in the analysis. Two archetype buildings are used in the sensitivity analysis, including a two-storey building and a four-storey building. The results of these analyses indicate that using data-fitting techniques to obtain probability distributions may cause some errors. Linear interpolation combined with data-fitting technique may be employed to improve the accuracy of the calculated exceeding probability. The procedures can be used to quantify the risk of wood frame buildings in seismic events and to calibrate seismic design provisions towards design code improvement.

  • A dynamically scaled model of the catenary with a nominal scaling factor of 18.5:1 is designed and constructed. The motivation for developing such a model is the great difficulty of making accurate measurements on the full-scale catenary and the difficulty of making experimental modifications to it. The scaled model is designed to be dynamically equivalent to the full scale catenary with respect to the mass and elastic strength. The scaled model is partially verified by comparing linear vibration and wave characteristics with those predicted by the simulation study.

  • A soft error rate neutrons is a growing problem for integrated circuits with technology scaling. In the acceleration test with high-density neutron beam, a latch-up prohibits accurate estimations of the soft error rate (SER). This paper presents results of analysis for the latch-up characteristics in the circumstance corresponding to the acceleration SER test for SRAM. Simulation results, using a two-dimensional device simulator, show that the deep p-well structure has better latch-up Immunity compared to normal twin and triple well structures. In addition, it is more effective to minimize the distance to ground power compared with controlling a path to the $V_{DD}$ power.

  • The tone reservation method is one of the most effective pre-distortion methods for peak-to-average power ratio reduction in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Its direct application to OFDM systems with offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OQAM) is, however, not effective. In this paper, two novel TR-based methods are proposed, specifically designed for OFDM/OQAM systems by taking into consideration the overlapping nature of OQAM signals. These two methods have different approaches to the generation of the peak-cancelling signal. The first one (overlapped scaling tone reservation) generates the peak-cancelling signal using a least squares approximation algorithm with possible adjacent symbol overlap; the second one (multi-kernel tone reservation) generates the peak-cancelling signal by using multiple impulse-like time domain kernels. It is shown by simulation that, when used in OFDM/OQAM systems, the proposed methods can provide better performance than the direct application of the existing controlled clipping tone reservation method, and even outperform the multi-block tone reservation method.

  • A simple and analytical design approach for input power matched CMOS RF LNA circuits and their scaling for lower power consumption, is introduced. In spite of the simplicity of our expressions, it gives excellent agreement with numerical simulation results using commercial CAD tools for several circuit examples performed at 2.4GHz using $0.18\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology. These simple and analytical results are extremely useful in that they can provide enough insights not only for designing any CMOS LNA circuits, but also for characterizing and diagnosing them whether being prototyped or manufactured.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive SLM scheme based on peak observation for PAPR reduction of OFDM signals. The proposed scheme is composed of three steps: peak scaling, sequence selection, and SLM procedures. In the first step, the peak signal samples in the IFFT outputs of the original input sequence are scaled down. In the second step, the sub-carrier positions where power difference between the original input sequence and the FFT outputs of the scaled signal is large, are identified. Then, the phase sequences which have the maximum number of phase-reversed sequence words only for these positions, are selected. Finally, only using the selected phase sequences, the generic SLM procedure is performed for the original input sequence. Simulation results reveal that the proposed adaptive SLM remarkably reduces the complexity in terms of IFFT and PAPR calculations than the conventional SLM, while maintaining the PAPR reduction performance.

  • In this paper, we re-analyzed the fuzzy controller as conventional PID controller structure, and proposed a self tuning fuzzy PID controller whose input output scaling factors were tuned automatically. At first stage, the tuning parameters of fuzzy controller were determined by Ziegler-Nichols tuning method and then they were adjusted as the delay time and process environment were changed. Proposed controller was simple in its structrue and computational burden was small so that on line adaptation was easy to apply to. The result of computer simulation and practical experiment showed the proposed controller's excellent performance

  • A new multi-planar interpolation technique for three dimensional medical image rendering is proposed. In medical imaging. resolution in the slice direction is usually much lower than those in the transverse planes. The proposed method is based on the solution of the Laplace's equation used in the electrostatics. In this approach. two contours in the source and destination planes for a given object is assumed to have equi-potentials. Some preprocessing and post-processing including scaling. displacement. rotation from the centers of mass are involved in the algorithm. The interpolation solution assumes mostly smoothing changes in between the source and destination planes. Simultaneous multiple interpolation planes are inherently obtained in the proposed method. Some experimental and simulation results are shown.
