Objectives: This study aims to investigate degree of scaling fear (Fear when scaling: FWS, Fear from dental hygienist unbelief: FFDHU, and Fear after scaling: FAS) in college students. Methods: 113 students were recruited for the study in Daegu Health College between March and June of 2017. Frequency table of general characteristics was generated, and then the t-test and ANOVA (scheffes's post hoct) were used to analyze the differences between scaling fear and two or three groups of variables. Results: Mean scores of scaling fear in 113 students were 2.24 (FWS), 1.76 (FFDHU), and 1.76 (FAS). Score 2.48 of female's scaling fear (FWS) was significantly higher than men's 2.02 (p<0.05). Smokers who have smoked less than 3 years (2.56) (FWS) were lower than those who have smoked over 3 years (1.55) (p<0.01). Score of students want the explanation of scaling when scaling (1.94) (FWS) were significantly higher than those who does not (1.59) (p<0.05). Conclusions: The findings of this study showed that there were gender and smoking periods when scaling to effect a score of scaling fear.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the oral health statuses pre- and post-insurance using the $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data to confirm the effect of scaling insurance after a year. Methods: Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS ver. 21.0 (IBM Co., Armonk, NY, USA). The four years were integrated, and a composite sample analysis was performed. A total of 26,990 people were included in the study before applying for scaling insurance (14,343 persons) or after receiving scaling insurance (12,647 persons). A chi-squared test was performed to compare the demographic characteristics and oral health status of the subjects. The significance level of the statistical test was 0.05. Results: The proportion of patients without implants was high before the provision of scaling insurance once a year, however, the proportion of patients with one or more implants was high (p<0.05) after the provision of scaling insurance once a year. Hemorrhagic periodontal tissues and tartar formation in periodontal tissues were highly prevalent before the provision of scaling insurance once a year, however, healthy periodontal tissues and formation of periodontal pockets were highly prevalent (p<0.05) after the provision of scaling insurance once a year. The decay, missing, and filled teeth index scores were higher before the provision of scaling insurance once a year (p<0.05). Conclusions: The aforementioned results showed that scaling once a year helps prevent or treat periodontal disease. In addition, we confirmed the effect of prevention on periodontal disease and dental caries, therefore, we expect it to develop into a stable policy.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to establish the regular scaling checkup service and to improve oral health care on the basis of knowledge, attitude, and belief by Dental Prophylaxis Practice Lab in A university. Methods : Subjects were 324 patients who visited Dental Prophylaxis Practice Lab in A university for the preventive removal of tartar from April to June 8, 2012. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 18.0 through the frequency analysis, chi-test, and logistics regression analysis. Results : In relation to scaling experience by age, 65.3% had experienced scaling checkup and those between 20 to 29 (34.7%) did not receive the scaling therapy. Smokers tended to have received more scaling experience than nonsmokers. Second, the number of untreated dental caries and missing teeth due to dental caries were important because the variables of oral health condition affected the scaling experience. Conclusions : It is necessary to increase the scaling experience and regular dental checkup by providing the education to improve dental clinics visit based on the knowledge and belief towards the scaling.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors of oral health beliefs on scaling performance by national health insurance coverage in consumers. Methods: The subjects were 353 people living in Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi-do from September 25 to October 20, 2013. They filled out the self-reported questionnaire after receiving informed consents. The questionnaire included 6 questions of general characteristics, 6 questions of oral health behavior, 6 questions of health insurance coverage, and 1 question of subjective oral health recognition. The oral health belief consisted of 6 questions of seriousness, 6 questions of susceptibility, 8 questions of barriers, 5 questions of benefit, and 3 questions of self-efficacy measure by Likert 5 scale. Cronbach's alpha in the study was 0.759. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 for frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, post-hoc Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and binary logistic regression. Results: The influencing factors of oral health belief model were Seriousness(${\beta}=0.091$), Self efficacy(${\beta}=-0.471$) and age(${\beta}=0.855$)(p<0.05). Those who had highly perceived seriousness and younger age tended to have probability of scaling performance. Higher self-efficacy tended to take more chance to have scaling performance probability. Conclusions: In order to cover the scaling by national health insurance, it is very important to notice the benefit of health insurance coverage of scaling to the consumers. National health insurance coverage enables the scaling practice to be easily accessible to the people. Easy access to scaling by low cost strategy can improve the oral health behavior.

Icing cloud generation system was developed to perform the in-flight icing simulation test for T-50 Supersonic Jet Trainer on the ground. The developed system successfully generated the almost natural icing cloud in the super-cooled state (liquid state) below freezing point and with the required LWC (Liquid Water Content). For full-scale aircraft icing test, an icing scaling method was adopted due to the limitation of wind generation speed with open-circuit type blower and its applicability was experimentally verified. Under the required in-flight icing condition based on the icing scaling method, T-50 aircraft subsystems were successfully operated and functionally checked.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of preventive treatment experience on scaling fear level. Methods: A total of 259 adults who had visited the dental clinic were analyzed. The results were summarized as follows. Statistical analysis of the collected data was performed using the SPSS WIN 20.0 statistical program. The general characteristics, scaling experience, and the characteristics of the subjects were analyzed. Frequency of scaling according to general characteristics was analyzed by independent sample t-test, Scaling fears according to treatment experience were tested by t-test. Correlation analysis was performed for scaling fears according to the reliability of dental hygienist. Regression analysis was carried out to investigate factors affecting scaling fear. Results: Level of fear during scaling was higher in females (3.03) than in males (2.54) and that after scaling was scored higher in females (2.68) than in males (2.34) by general characteristics (p<0.001). The adults who were not healthy in oral health showed the highest levels of fear during (3.29) and after (3.00) scaling by oral health status (p<0.001). Adults who had brushing education experience showed lower fear level than those who did not after scaling (p<0.01) according to the experiences of preventive treatments. With respect to the correlation of trust level to the dental hygienists with the scaling fears, it showed higher in the trust level (-0.688) as lower level of scaling fear (-0.642) in the scaling (p<0.01). Confidence level of dental hygienist (-0.661), brushing education experience (-0.121), and oral health status (-0.121) were influenced upon the regression analysis. Conclusions: Oral health education and dental hygiene education are increasing. It is thought that active efforts are needed to promote and maintain oral health.
Purpose : To evaluate the effect of global scaling analysis on brain activation for sensory and motor functional MR imaging study. Materials and methods : Four normal subjects without abnormal neurological history were included. Arm extension-flexion movement was used for motor function and 1KHz pure tone stimulation was used for auditory function. Functional magnetic resonance imaging was performed at 3T MRI (GE, Milwaukee, USA) using BOLD-EPI technique and SPM2 was employed for data analysis. On data analysis, the brain activation images were obtained with and without global scaling by fixing other parameters such as motion correction and realignment. Results : The difference in brain activation between no scaling and global scaling was not large in case of right upper extremity movement (p<0.000001). For auditory test, brain activation with global scaling showed larger activation than that of without global scaling (p<0.05). Conclusion : A caution must be taken into account when analyzing functional imaging data with global scaling especially for functional study of small local BOLD signal change.

While dental clinics still use the ultrasonic scaling/surgery tool for teeth scaling and cleaning the tool's use is expanding steadily to include treatment of damaged teeth and bone tissue. In this study, a handpiece moving system (HMS) was developed to evaluate bone scaling and cutting in the field of dentistry. The HMS, through a scaling test of bone using a scaler tip, it was able to identify surface damage. Additionally, a thermos-graphic camera was used to observe the temperature distribution that occurred during the bone scaling and cutting process. Consequently, we found that increasing the working load increased the amount of surface damage. Changes in temperature distribution occurred slowly and were maintained within safety bounds for 10 minutes. Going forward, we will compare the HMS performance on scaling and cutting with other devices.

This study focused on the investigation of durability of latex modified concrete in the points of surface scaling resistance as cement types variated and latex content variated such as 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. An increasing the amount of latex produced concrete with increased flexural strength, but with slightly lower compressive strength. The increase in flexural strength might be attributed to the latex films between the hydrated cement and aggregates, and the decrease in compressive strength to the flexibility of the latex component named by Butadiene. The surface scaling resistance test was used to evaluate the durability of latex-modified concretes and rapid setting latex-modified concretes. The surface scaling resistance of LMC was quite good comparing to conventional concrete. Further, surface scaling resistance of RSLMC was improved with increasing the latex content.

In-flight icing remains as one of the most persistent hazards for aircraft operations. The effect of icing on aircraft performance and safety has to be evaluated during the development and airworthiness certification process. The scaling method is a procedure to determine the scaled test conditions in icing wind tunnels in order to produce the same result as when the reference model is exposed to the desired cloud conditions. In this study, a scaling program is developed to provide an easy-to-use tool to the aero-icing community. The Olsen and Ruff 4th methods are employed for this purpose and the velocity is calculated by matching the dimensionless Weber number. To validate the program, the results are compared with the NASA scaling results. The scaling examples based on FAR (Federal Aviation Regulation) Part 25 Appendix C are also presented. Finally, a validation study using a state-of-the-art icing simulation code FENSAP-ICE is presented.
