상악 구개부 치은에 발생한 편평상피세포암의 증례보고 (Squamous Cell Carcinoma In Palatal Gingiva. A Case Report)

  • Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common malignant tumor of the gingiva. Oral cancer accounts for 5 percent of all malignant tumors in the body, and 6 percent of these occur in the gingiva. We present one case of squamous cell carcinoma of the gingiva in 23-year-old female. She complained of gingival swelling and pain during mastication between left maxillary first molar and second molar. Since she had received scaling 2 years ago, food impaction occurred frequently in this site and an ulcerative lesion recurred several times. When she was referred from local clinic, she had a large, irregularly ulcerated lesion of palatal gingiva between left maxillary first molar and second molar, accompanying induration in center and slight elevation around ulcerative margin. The etiology could not be defined but we could diagnose by careful history taking and excisional biopsy of the recurrent ulcerative lesion. In addition, computed tomography and nuclear medicine imaging were undertaken. As a result, we finally diagnosed as moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma without metastases. It is concluded that if ulcerations do not respond to therapy in the usual manner, it should be biopsed and histologically evaluated for the definitive diagnosis and treatment.

Analysis of temperature-dependent abnormal bursting patterns of neurons in Aplysia

  • Temperature affects the firing pattern and electrical activity of neurons in animals, eliciting diverse responses depending on neuronal cell type. However, the mechanisms underlying such diverse responses are not well understood. In the present study, we performed in vitro recording of abdominal ganglia cells of Aplysia juliana, and analyzed their burst firing patterns. We identified atypical bursting patterns dependent on temperature that were totally different from classical bursting patterns observed in R15 neurons of A. juliana. We classified these abnormal bursting patterns into type 1 and type 2; type 1 abnormal single bursts are composed of two kinds of spikes with a long interspike interval (ISI) followed by short ISI regular firing, while type 2 abnormal single bursts are composed of complex multiplets. To investigate the mechanism underlying the temperature dependence of abnormal bursting, we employed simulations using a modified Plant model and determined that the temperature dependence of type 2 abnormal bursting is related to temperature-dependent scaling factors and activation or inactivation of potassium or sodium channels.

전산 열.구조해석에 의한 알루미늄 6061 마찰교반용접 특성 연구 (A Study on Numerical Thermo-Mechanical Analysis for Aluminum 6061 Friction Stir Welding)

  • A fully coupled thermo-mechanical model is adopted to study the temperature distribution and the material deformation in friction stir welding(FSW) process. Rotational speed is most important parameters in this research. Three dimension results under different process parameters were presented. Result indicate that the maximum temperature is lower than the melting point of the welding material. The higher temperature gradient occurs in the leading side of the workpiece. The maximum temperature can be increased with increasing the tool angular velocity, rpm in the current numerical modeling. In this research ABAQUS Ver.6.7 is to analyze a fully coupled thermo-mechanical model. ALE(Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian) finite element formulation is used for the large deformation in FSW process and using the Mass scaling for the analysis time efficiency.

잉크젯 잉크의 수명예측을 위한 광열화 가속시험법에 관한 연구 (A Study on Accelerated Photo-Degradation Test for Lifetime Estimation of Ink-jet Ink)

  • We have performed accelerated photo-degradation test using a 10-Sun level high irradiance $Weather-Ometer^{(R)}$ (10-Sun Ci5000) in an attempt to study acceleration and correlation between accelerated and service conditions for ink-jet ink. The accelerated test was used to predict lifetimes of ink-jet ink through the calculation of scaling factor for intensity of irradiance and duration of usage combined with estimation of lifetime distribution and inverse power model as a life-stress model. The lifetimes and acceleration factors for foreign and domestic inks were compared with each other. The results showed that the failure mechanisms and life-stress models for ink-jet ink were different among the color of ink which means that we might be in need of further study by color of inks.

On the Design of Simple-structured Adaptive Fuzzy Logic Controllers

  • One of the methods to simplify the design process for a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is to reduce the number of variables representing the rule antecedent. This in turn decreases the number of control rules, membership functions, and scaling factors. For this purpose, we designed a single-input FLC that uses a sole fuzzy input variable. However, it is still deficient in the capability of adapting some varying operating conditions although it provides a simple method for the design of FLC's. We here design two simple-structured adaptive fuzzy logic controllers (SAFLC's) using the concept of the single-input FLC. Linguistic fuzzy control rules are directly incorporated into the controller by a fuzzy basis function. Thus some parameters of the membership functions characterizing the linguistic terms of the fuzzy control rules can be adjusted by an adaptive law. In our controllers, center values of fuzzy sets are directly adjusted by an adaptive law. Two SAFLC's are designed. One of them uses a Hurwitz error dynamics and the other a switching function of the sliding mode control (SMC). We also prove that 1) their closed-loop systems are globally stable in the sense that all signals involved are bounded and 2) their tracking errors converge to zero asymptotically. We perform computer simulations using a nonlinear plant.

Implementation of Excitatory CMOS Neuron Oscillator for Robot Motion Control Unit

  • This paper presents an excitatory CMOS neuron oscillator circuit design, which can synchronize two neuron-bursting patterns. The excitatory CMOS neuron oscillator is composed of CMOS neurons and CMOS excitatory synapses. And the neurons and synapses are connected into a close loop. The CMOS neuron is based on the Hindmarsh-Rose (HR) neuron model and excitatory synapse is based on the chemical synapse model. In order to fabricate using a 0.18 um CMOS standard process technology with 1.8V compatible transistors, both time and amplitude scaling of HR neuron model is adopted. This full-chip integration minimizes the power consumption and circuit size, which is ideal for motion control unit of the proposed bio-mimetic micro-robot. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed excitatory CMOS neuron oscillator performs the expected waveforms with scaled time and amplitude. The active silicon area of the fabricated chip is $1.1mm^2$ including I/O pads.

GALAXY LUMINOSITY FUNCTION OF THE ABELL 119 CLUSTER

  • We present the galaxy luminosity function (LF) of the Abell 119 cluster. Deep images in u, g, r bands were taken using MOSAIC 2 CCD on a Blanco 4-m telescope at CTIO. Based on scaling relations at faint magnitudes and spectroscopy at bright magnitudes, accurate membership of galaxies is determined. The LF is fitted by a single Schechter function and a two components (Gauss + Schechter) function. Blue galaxies are well fitted by a single Schechter function with steep slope ${\alpha}$ ~ -1.55). Red galaxies in the inner, high density region are fitted by single Schechter function with shallow slope (${\alpha}$ ~ -1.30), while red galaxies in the outer, low density region are well fitted by a two components function. The different slope of LFs between the inner and outer seems to stem from the luminosity segregation of A119 indicating larger number ratio of luminous to faint ratio towards the cluster center. The different shape of LFs seems to be resulted from the different composition of luminous and faint galaxies among main-cluster, sub-cluster, and infall region.

KINGS: A Preliminary Result of the Fornax cluster

  • We present a preliminary result of the Fornax cluster survey as a part of the KMTNet Intensive Nearby Southern Galaxy Group Survey (KINGS). We discovered about 200 new dwarf galaxy candidates from the survey of the $8^{\circ}{\times}6^{\circ}$ area around the Fornax cluster. They have magnitudes ranging from V=17.5 to 22 mag (Mv = -13.8 to -9.3), and they are almost complete to V = 20 mag. Surface brightness profiles of most of these galaxies are fit well by a Sersic law with n ~ 1.0. Structural parameters of these galaxies follow well the scaling relations of dwarf galaxies in the fundamental plane. The color-magnitude diagram of these galaxies shows that they are mostly located at the faint end of the red sequence, indicating that they are the probable member of the Fornax cluster. We also derive a luminosity function of the Fornax cluster by combining the new galaxies with the known galaxies in the previous catalogs. We will discuss the future of the KINGS-Fornax.

푸리에 서술자를 이용한 물체 인식 (Object Recognition by Fourier Descriptor)

  • 푸리에 서술자는 물체의 경계를 표현하는 일반적인 방법이다. 본 논문에서는 이 푸리에 서술자를 이용하여 물체를 인식할 수 있는 알고리즘을 구축하고 실제로 8가지 의 도구들을 구분 인식할 수 있는지를 직접 적용하여 알고리즘의 타당성 검토와 여러 분야에 응용될 수 있음을 추론하였다. 이 알고리즘 구축은 이미지 형성과정과 물체 인식 과정으로 분리하여 생각한다. 이미지 형성 과정은 가능한 인식을 용이하도록 적 절한 조도, 투영시각, 배경과 물체간에 선명한 대비를 이루는 것이 중요하다. 물체 인식과정은 푸리에 서술자와 경계선 매칭을 사용하여 여러 물체 가운데 최소 거리를 산출한 것을 인식한다. 또한 물체가 회전, 위치 변위, 확대 축소 변형에도 인식이 가 가능한지를 시험한다. 인식 과정을 신속히 수행하기 위해 푸리에 서술자 1024개중에 1/4 만을 사용하여 이를 달성한다.

초기값을 갖는 비동질무한영역의 해석을 위한 비례경계무한요소법 (Infinite Element for the Scaled Boundary Analysis of Initial Valued on-Homogeneous Elastic Half Space)

  • 본 논문에서는 초기값을 갖는 비동질 반무한 평면문제를 비례경계유한요소법으로 해석하기 위하여 무한요소를 이 해석법에 도입하였다. 초기값을 갖는 반무한 평면의 자유면은 비례경계좌표계의 원주방향의 좌표를 이용하여 모델링하였고 무한요소는 이 자유면이 나타내는 무한한 영역을 모사하기 위해 사용되었다. 반무한 평면의 물성치(탄성계수)에 대한 초기값은 비례중심의 위치와 비례경계좌표계에서의 반지름 멱함수를 이용하여 나타내었다. 사상형 무한요소를 사용하여 일관된 정식화가 가능하였고, 제안된 해석법에 대한 적용성과 성능을 두 수치예제를 통하여 보였다.
