  • Full-scale and 1:15 scale fluid model experiments of roof ballast pavers are employed to optimize paver geometry and study wind loading and performance of roof ballast pavers. Wind pressures above and beneath pavers are conducted for buildings of different heights and in different flow conditions. The effects of the side hole size and the underneath rib height under the wind loading on pavers and the effects of roof parapet height as well as flow conditions on the performance of pavers are studied. Incorporation of wind tunnel experimental results into code statements is also provided.

  • The heat flux on a chip is rapidly increasing with decreasing the size of one. It is necessary to properly cool the high heat flux chip. One of the promising cooling methods is to apply CPL heat pipes with porous materials, for example PVA, polyethylene, and powder sintered metal plate and with microchannels in the evaporator. A small scale CPL heat pipe with PVA as wick was designed and manufactured. Since the height difference between the evaporator and the condenser is a crucial parameter in the CPL heat pipes, the performance of the heat pipes depending on the parameter was investigated. The parameter is higher the performance is better. However, the improvement rate of the performance does not increase the increase rate of the height. In addition to, the parameter effect depending on heat input was investigated.

  • Combustion phenomenon in scale-downed combustor is investigated. As the combustor volume decreases surface to volume ratio increases. for increased surface to volume ratio means increased heat loss and this increased heat loss affects reaction in combustion chamber. Plastic mini combustor is made. Stoichiometricaly premixed Hydrogen I air gas is used as fuel. Initial chamber pressure and chamber size are varied and the effects are evaluated. Peak pressure decreases with the decrease in chamber height. As initial chamber pressure decreases peak pressure decreases. And this change is more important than scale down effect till the chamber height of 1mm. With this result and further information following the experiments design parameter for micro engine can be established.

  • In this study, reduced-scale experiments were conducted to analyze smoke movement in tunnel fire with roof vent. The 1/20 scale experiments were carried out under the Froude scaling using gasoline pool fire ranging from 7.3 to 15.4 cm in diameter with total heat release rate from 1.0 to 8.46kw. In case of 1 m high vent, smoke front reached to the tunnel exit at about 16 sec delayed with ventilation. The delay time grew longer with the vent height. The temperature after the vent was lower than that without the vent. The exit temperature declined maximum of $20^{\circ}C$ after passing the vent. It was confirmed that the thickness of smoke layer was maintained uniformly under the 25% height of the tunnel through the visualized smoke now by a laser sheet and the digital camcorder.

  • When high waves and storm surge strike simultaneously, the characteristics of the fluid field change drastically from overtopping according to the wave runup height to overflow through a transition state that combines overtopping and overflows. However, an estimation model or evaluation method has not yet been established because there is not enough engineering data. This study developed a wave overtopping-overflow transition model based on a full-scale experiment involving wave overtopping and overflow transition, which appropriately reproduced the effect of waves or the temporal change in inundation flow. Using this model to perform a calculation for the wave overtopping and overflow transition process under typical circumstances, this study determined the wave runup height and features of the inundation flow under time series changes as an example.

  • This study aimed to find out the suitable design of footwear cabinet. The questionnaire data from 1969 persons of 400 families about footwear cabinet showed following results. 1) The number of shoes was related with sex, age, occupation, family income, the number of family members and educational level of housewives. 2) The size of shoes in the range of 80% of the investigated shoes was 30cm of height, 30cm of length, and 10cm of width. 3) The satisfaction with footwear cabints was mainly decided by the size and space of the cabinet. 4) Umbrella, tools and shoe polish and brush were usually kept in the footwear cabinet as well as shoes. On the basic of the results above. The size of 108cm of length (20cm for umbrella), 35cm of width and 105cm of height is sugested as the desirable footwear cabinet for the General public housing scale apartment for 5 family members and this cabinet should have 5 divider and one flexible divider by 30cm which may be adjusted by 20cm.

  • In Japan, deodorizing airflesheners are very popular to make air flesh by deodorizing odor in rooms, toilet as well as inside a car. There are in different features in deodorizing material of Gel and Liquid, in a shape of bottle from tall to low height, in bottle color and so on. These different features will influence the customer's feeling to the products of deodorizing airfleshener. This paper deals with the psychological evaluation of the features of deodorizing airfleshener on the SD scale with kansei words. The evaluated data were analyzed by Quantification Theory Type I that leads to the relational rules between the product feature and the kansei words. The beautiful and graceful kansei consists of low height, middle width deformed round shape, but easy operational feature is based on tall shape design. These results are helpful to develop a new product of deodorizing airfleshener.

  • Characteristics of methane turbulent non-premixed flame have been studied experimentally in coflow jets with initial temperature variation. The results showed that the premixed flame model and the large-scale mixing model for turbulent flame stabilization were effective for methane fuel considered initial temperature variation. Especially, the premixed flame model has been improved by considering nitrogen dilution for the liftoff height of turbulent lifted flame. In estimating blowout velocity and the liftoff height at blowout with the premixed flame model and the large-scale mixing model, the two turbulent models were excellently correlated by considering the effect of physical properties and buoyancy for the initial temperature variation.

  • Barometers can provide height information steady but its accuracy becomes poor as the air data varies due to the vehicles's moving or time's elapsing. In order to keep the accuracy in spite of the air data changes, we propose a filter for the identification of baro-errors. The baro-errors mainly consist of bias and scale factor errors which gradually varies as the air data varies. With GPS height measurements, the scale factor and bias estimator is designed by applying the interacting multiple model (IMM) filtering technique to the baro-error random walk model. The resultant estimates are used to compensate current baro-measurement to supply accurate measurements steadily.
