This study was performed in order to hydrogeological analysis of aquifer, which is a necessary part for evaluating the efficiency of the combined well and open-closed loops geothermal (CWG) systems. CWG systems have been proposed for the effective utilization of geothermal energy by combining open loop geothermal systems and closed loop geothermal systems. Small aperture CWG systems and large aperture CWG systems were installed at a green house land with water curtain facilities in Chungju City. Aquifer tests include pumping tests and step-drawdown tests were conducted to analyse hydrogeological characteristics of aquifer in the study area. The transmissivity was estimated in the range of $13.49{\sim}58.99cm^2/sec$, and the storativity was estimated in the range of $1.13{\times}10^{-5}{\sim}5.20{\times}10^{-3}$. The geochemical analysis showed $Ca^{2+}$ ion and ${HCO_3}^-$ ion were dominant in groundwater. The Langelier Saturation Index and the Ryznar Stability Index showed low scaling potential of groundwater. In the analysis of vertical water temperature change, the geothermal gradient was estimated as $2.1^{\circ}C/100m$, which indicated the aquifer was enough for geothermal systems. In conclusion, groundwater is rich, can stably use geothermal heat, and it is less likely to cause deterioration of thermal energy efficiency by precipitation of carbonate minerals in study area. Therefore, the study area is suitable for installation of the combined geothermal system.

Recently, liquid desiccant systems have received attention for the dehumidification of air. LiCl and LiBr are widely used in liquid desiccant systems due to their excellent thermo-physical properties. In this study, dehumidification tests were conducted with Celdek elements using LiCl and LiBr. During the tests, the dry and wet-bulb air temperatures were maintained at $35^{\circ}C$ and $28^{\circ}C$, respectively. The solution temperature was $20^{\circ}C$, the solution concentration was 50%, the solution circulation rate was 50 kg/h, and the frontal air velocity was varied from 2.0 to 4.0 m/s. The results show that the amount of dehumidification increased as the frontal velocity increased. On average, LiCl showed 27% higher dehumidification performance than LiBr, which was probably due to the lower saturation of the absolute humidity of LiCl compared with that of LiBr. On the other hand, LiBr yielded 12% larger pressure drop than LiCl. In general, the Sherwood numbers of LiCl and LiBr were approximately the same, showing that the effect of the desiccant on the Sherwood number was insignificant. Existing correlations highly overpredicted the present Sherwood numbers.

This study was conducted in warty sea squirt farm, Jindong Bay(10 stations; July, October, January, April) for the culture period of Styela clava, Styela plicata. We utilized water temperature, chlorophyll a, suspended particulate matter, hydrodynamics, salinity and dissolved oxygen saturation for the suitability assessment of warty sea squirt farm. Newly, Life Requisite Suitability graphs were made for the correlation between the growth of Styela clava, Styela plicata and farm environment. As a result of the assessment for Habitat Suitability Index, western bay(HSI 0.32~0.41) show values higher than eastern bay(HSI 0.19~0.27). This result shows the high correlation with the unit production of Styela clava, Styela plicata($R^2$=0.834, P<0.01). This could be helpful for fishery management for the sustainable productivity through the scientific suitable site assessment.
How to stabilize wood against shrinking and swelling in variable atmospheric moisture conditions is important to the wood-using industry and a challenge to research. Polyethylene glycol stabilize wood by bulking the fiber. PEG also serve as a chemical seasoning agent, suppress decay in high concentrations, and have slight effect on physical properties, gluing or finishing. The study designed to determine the effect of PEG-400 on the dimensional stabilization of local hardwoods for wood carvings that could supply a greatly expanding tourist trade and making curved furniture parts, lamp stands and other decorative objects, and possible gunstock. The species examined were 6 species, Seo-Namoo (Carpinus laxiflora), Cheungcheung-Namoo (Cornus controversa), Gorosae-Namoo (Acer mono), Karae-Namoo (Juglans mandshurica), Jolcham-Namoo (Quercusserrata) and Sanbud-Namoo (Prunus sargentii), used as block of 5cm thick radially to the grain, 7cm wide tangentially, and 70cm long parallel to the wood grain. All these test piecies were conditioned above the fiber saturation point before impregnation. The stabilization effects were determined for PEG-400 treated woods in a 50 percent solution for 20 days. The following conclusions were obtained. PEG retentions increased with treating time. It was more effective to treat at 60$^{\circ}C$ than at room temperature. In degree of PEG-400 impregnation on species, Cheungcheung-Namoo havinglow specific gravity had the highest retentions, 68.77% but the lowest, 56.33% was shown in Jolcham-Namoo with high specific gravity. Specific gravity of treated wood increased considerably with effectiveness of polymer loading. The increases in specific gravity were 5.36 to 13.16 percent. The highest was Jolcham-Namoo, the lowest Karae-Namoo. On the dimensional stability, a 40 percent of effectiveness of polymer loading was just as effective as 60 percent in reduction in water absorptivity (RWA), antishrinkage efficiency (ASE) and antiswelling efficiency (AE), and from over 60 percent they increased more rapidly. Also species response varied considerably. ASE was 30.12 to 69.97 percent tangentially and 27.86 to 56.37 percent radially, AE 34.06 to 73.76 percent tangentially and 30.11 to 70.12 percent radially, and RWA 42.31 to 65.32 percent. No differences in volume swelling among the 6 species were observed. Its values were ranged from 14.98 to 19.55 percent and also increased with PEG retentions. On the mechanical properties, the strengths very much decreased with PEG-400 loadings as shown in Figure 12; that were 11.41 to 22.90 percent in compression, 21.61 to 34.35 percent in bending and 22.83 to 36.83 percent in tensile strength. PEG retention in cell wall was less than 1 percent and the most of PEG were immersed in cell lumen. Except for Korae-Namoo, effectivenesses of polymer loading were as much high as 61.58 to 75.02 percent. This is believed to be due to the effect of PEG-400 on excellant dimensional stability of treated woods.
We have investigated some crystallographic, magnetic, and transport properties of the first colossal magnetoresistive compounds $La_{1-x}Ba_{x}MnO_3(0\leq\chi\leq$1)$(5\;K\leqT\leq360K,-5T\leqH\leq5T$ and resistivity $(100K\leqT\leq350K$measurements. $La_{1-x}Ba_{x}MnO_3$ were found to be ferromagnetic for all x.The $La_{1-x}Ba_{x}MnO_3$were found to be insulating for x< 0.2, metallic for 0.20.5. The magnitude of saturation magnetization (Ms) increased until x=1/8 and had theoretical maximum Ms for 0.13$\sfrac{3}{8}$ and had a constant value of 335~340 K for x>$\sfrac{3}{8}$. For $x\geq0.5$ the $La_{1-x}Ba_{x}MnO_3$ samples showed a percolation-type conduction behavior and enhanced low field magnetoresistance caused by simultaneous occurrence of the chemical/magnetic phase separation.
Ba-ferrite thin films were prepared on Si substrate with ${\alpha}$-Fe$_2$O$_3$ underlayer by a pulsed laser deposition system and characterized by X-ray, SEM, Mossbauer spectroscopy and VSM. The appropriate conditions of pulsation in ${\alpha}$-Fe$_2$O$_3$ and Ba-ferrite were the oxygen pressure of 0.1 Torr at a substrate temperature of 400$^{\circ}C$. Ba-ferrite crystals had the forms of ellipsoidal or needle and the grains shaped the more lumps with increasing the film thickness. Mossbauer spectroscopy assured that the direction of atomic spin in Fe ion was not random but had the tendency of arrangement normal to the substrate. The coercive force and squareness of hysteresis were larger in normal than in plane to the substrate but, the magnetic saturation moment was contrary to them. The spin arrangement was strongly affected by ${\alpha}$-Fe$_2$O$_3$ underlayer and the high coercive force and squareness were influenced by this. The crystal structure was conformed to be a Magntoplumbite symmetry with the hexagonal unit cell and the lattice constant of a increased with increasing film thickness, while c decreased
Ba-Ferrite single crystals were prepared and characterized by X-ray, SEM and Mossbauer spectroscopy. The single crystal layers was cut in the c-axis and radiated to the surface by ${\gamma}-rays$ for Mossbauer spectroscopy. We found out that the spin states in Fe atoms were parallel to the ${\gamma}-rays$ direction. The temperature dependence of the hyperfine field is almost similar to that of powder samples. The crystal structure is a Magnetoplumbite without any other phases and the lattice parameters are found out with $a_0=5.892{\AA},\;b_0=5.892{\AA},\;c_0=23.198{\AA}$. $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectrum in single crystal have 5 sets off absorption lines in each Fe site when the ${\gamma}-rays$ have the same radiation direction with the c-axis in the crystal, which mean that the whole crystal bulk formed only one crystal and same spin direction. The hysteresis curve shows the saturation moment and coercive force of 70.71 emu/g and 320 Oe respectively.

$Ni_xFe_{100-x}$ films with a thickness of about 100nm were deposited on Si(100) substrates at room temperature by a DC magnetron co-sputtering using Fe and Ni targets. Compositional, structural, electrical and magnetic properties of the films were investigated. $Ni_{67}Fe_{33}$, $Ni_{55}Fe_{45}$, $Ni_{50}Fe_{50}$, $Ni_{45}Fe_{55}$, $Ni_{40}Fe_{60}$ films are obtained by increasing the sputtering power of the Fe target. The films of x < 55 have BCC structure and show the phase transformation after annealing at the range of $300{\sim}450^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. On the other hand, the films of x < 50 have the mixed crystalline phases of BCC and FCC after the annealing treatment. The saturation magnetization was decreased initially by the phase transformation effect but then increased again after annealing at $450^{\circ}C$ due to the grain growth and crystallization of BCC phases.

Freeze-thaw tests were performed on gneiss samples collected from Terra Nova Bay, Antarctica in order to examine the engineering properties of rocks with slightly weathered (SW) and moderately weathered (MW). The tests were conducted under temperature ranging from $20{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ to $-20{\pm}2^{\circ}C$. A cycle of test consisted of 5 hours of freezing followed by another 5 hours of thawing under full saturation. In this paper, total 200 cycles of freeze-thaw test were performed with measurements of porosity, absorption, ultrasonic velocity, and shore hardness per each 20 cycle and that of uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) per each 50 cycle. The UCS of the SW rocks approximately decreased 0.07 MPa per a single cycle, while that of MW rocks decreased around 0.2 MPa per a single cycle. During the 200 cycles of SW rocks, the absorption increased from 0.23% to 0.39%, the P-wave velocity decreased from 4,054 m/s to 3,227 m/s and S-wave velocity decreased from 2,519 m/s to 2,079 m/s. Similarly, those of MW rocks changed from 0.65% to 1.6%, 3,207 m/s to 2,133 m/s and 2,028 m/s to 1,357 m/s. In conclusion, it was inferred that the properties of SW rocks experienced approximately 200-300 cycles of freeze-thaw process become close to those of MW rocks.

The Hygrothermal aging of the laminates of $Avimid^(R)$ K3B/IM7 in $80^{\circ}C$ water was studied as a function of immersion time prior to forming microcracks. The factors causing the $80^{\circ}C$ water to degradation of the laminates could be the degradation of the matrix toughness, the change in residual stresses or the interfacial damage between the fiber and the matrix. The times to saturation in $80^{\circ}C$ water for the laminates and for the neat resin were 100 hours and 500 hours. After 500 hours aging of the neat resin, the glass transition temperature was changed less than 1% by DSC test, and the weight gain was 1.55% increase with the diffusion coefficient $7\times10^{-6}m/s^2$ and the fracture toughness was decreased about 41%. After 100 hours fully saturated aging of the ${[+45/0/-45/90]}_s$ K3B/IM7 laminates in $80^{\circ}C$ water, the weight gain was 0.41% increase with the diffusion coefficient $1\times10^{-6}m/s^2$. In 100 hours, the loss of the fracture toughness of the laminates was 43.8% of the original toughness by the microcracking fracture toughness criterion. Therefore, the main factor to degrade the microcracking toughness of the laminates could be the degradation of the matrix fracture toughness.
