  • The tracking antenna system must be always pointed to a satellite for data link among moving vehicles. Especially, for an antenna mounted on a moving vehicle, it needs the stabilized the antenna system. So, software and hardware, signal processing of motion detection sensors, real-time processing of vehicle dynamics, trajectory estimation of satellite, antenna servo mechanism, and tracking algorithm, are unified in the antenna system. The purpose of this paper is to design the embedded tracking antenna control system for satellite communication. The embedded OS(Operating System) based stabilization and tracking algorithm was implemented. The performance of the designed embedded control system was verified by the real satellite communication test.

  • The land mobile antenna for two-way communication using geostationary satellite consists of a transmitting and receiving systems. The transmitting system plays the role of sending the signal to the satellite while the receiving system does the role of receiving signal from the satellite and tacking the target satellite. Especially, the land mobile antenna for satellite communication must be met with the international regulation such as antenna pattern, transmitting power and tracking error to protect the damage of the neighbor satellites. On the other hand, this paper thoroughly examined a receiving system to satisfy a stable satellite tracking performance and antenna pattern specified by the international regulation for Ku-band geostationary satellite.

  • In satellite operations, stable maneuvering of a satellite's onboard antenna to prevent undesirable vibrations to the satellite body is required for high-quality high-resolution images. For this reason, the onboard antenna's angular rate is typically minimized while still satisfying the system requirement that limits the speed of the onboard antenna. In this study, a simple yet effective method, called the ground station searching method, is proposed to reduce the angular rate of a satellite's onboard antenna. The performance of the proposed method is tested using real flight data from the KOMPSAT-3 satellite. Approximately 83% of arbitrarily selected real flight scenarios from 66 test cases show reductions in the onboard antenna's azimuth angular rates. Additionally, reliable solutions were consistently obtained within a reasonably acceptable computation time while generating an onboard antenna tracking profile. The obtained results indicate that the proposed method can be used in real satellite operations and can reduce the operational loads on a ground operator. Although the current work only considers the KOMPSAT-3 satellite as a test case, the proposed method can be easily modified and applied to other satellites that have similar operational characteristics.

  • An antenna tracking technique, referred to as "step track", is commonly used in communication applications. In this paper, an algorithm to improve the step-tracking technique for satellite tracking is proposed. We suggest a method by which the antenna scans the azimuth, detects the satellite signal without the position information, and points quickly to the direction receiving the signal of peak level. After reaching the peak level, the step-track system maintains enough signal levels to receive satellite broadcasting normally. Performance of the Tracking Algorithm proposed in this paper are verified with simulation.

  • This paper presents the development of a satellite antenna tracking control system using a plane antenna for mobile DAB(Digital Audio Broadcasting) reception. To track more rapidly in the antenna of this system, this simple tracking system only tracks a direction of azimuth using pendulum in the direction of elevation. This system should track using the AGC(Automatic Gain Control) of the signal level which can receive DAB in spite of the changing of point and movement of the mobile. The directional gyro sensor is attached to solve the delay time in the Proposed tracking algorithm. The effectiveness of both the stabilization and tracking algorithm is demonstrated through experiment measuring AGC signal level. The implemented satellite antenna tracking control system is shown to be excellent for mobile DAB reception.

  • This paper deals with modelling and identification of a shipboard stabilized satellite antenna system using the optimal neural network structure. It is difficult for shipboard satellite antenna system to control and identification because of their approximating ability of nonlinear function So it is important to design the neural network with optimal structure for minimum error and fast response time. In this paper, a neural network structure using genetic algorithm is optimized And genetic algorithm is also used for identifying a shipboard satellite antenna system It is noticed that the optimal neural network structure actually describes the real movement of ship well. Through practical test, the optimal neural network structure is shown to be effective for modelling the shipboard satellite antenna system.

  • Ku band satellite signal repeating technology just altering a polarization of the repeated signal is applicable for any kind of satellite broadcasting service in geographically shadowed area due to high-rise buildings, trees, and so on. This paper focuses on the design of high polarization discrimination antenna satisfying polarization characteristics with respect to field pattern and frequency band. Designed antenna for the enhancement of axial ratio and polarization discrimination characteristic shows good performance for satellite broadcasting service repeating system.

Therefore, positive margin of safety of the satellite system must be demonstrated for every possible mechanical loading condition during the launch period. This paper presents modal and stress analysis result due to quasi-static loads for the satellite antenna system. The failure tendency for the sandwich construction of the satellite antenna system has been studied with various lamination angles of unidirectional prepreg.

  • In this paper, satellite searching and tracking method for the satellite antenna in naval vessels system are proposed. For fast searching satellite, Wide Range Search(WRS) algorithm is proposed where the signal strength of side-lobe is utilized as well as that of main-lobe. Satellite tracking algorithm to stabilize satellite antenna is based on conical-scanning which is accomplished by the use of the sub-reflector located in front of the focus of the reflector. The sub-reflector rotates about a slightly tilted axis by means of a motor and shapes the antenna beam to utilize stabilization. To show the validity of the proposed method, an experimental example is represented.
