In recent years, it is a worldwide trend that many power utilities focus their attention to employ up-to-date communication technology to the automation of their power plants and distribution systems. Automation Systems in Korea was installed using twisted pair cable(TPC), power line carrier(PLC), coaxial cable(CA), wireless network(wireless data, TRS and PCS). Among the communication media only Satellite Communication guarantees the reliable communication in case of emergency such as a flood, a heavy snow and an earthquake. It can integrate two-way satellite systems to existent nationwide SCADA controlling points of electric power transmission & distribution system that enables real time remote monitoring and controlling automatically. This paper presents some of design efforts for the satellite communication network as the media of Automation Systems.
The Electric Power Subsystem (EPS) is one of the most critical systems on any satellite because nearly every subsystem requires power. This makes the choice of power systems the most important task facing satellite designers. The main purpose of the Satellite EPS is to provide continuous, regulated and conditioned power to all the satellite subsystems. It has to withstand radiation, thermal cycling and vacuums in hostile space environments, as well as subsystem degradation over time. The EPS power characteristics are determined by both the parameters of the system itself and by the satellite orbit. After satellite separation from the launch vehicle (LV) to its orbit, in almost all situations, the satellite subsystems (attitude determination and control, communication and onboard computer and data handling (OBC&DH)), take their needed power from a storage battery (SB) and solar arrays (SA) besides the consumed power in the EPS management device. At this point (separation point, detumbling mode), the satellite's angular motion is high and the orientation of the solar arrays, with respect to the Sun, will change in a non-uniform way, so the amount of power generated by the solar arrays will be affected. The objective of this research is to select satellite EPS component types, to estimate solar array illumination parameters and to determine the efficiency of solar arrays during both detumbling and normal operation modes.

There are several types of communication method which is used for providing the supply of electric power stably. But the communication methods used in KEPCO have weak points in the viewpoint of economy, technology and management. Therefore the power plant located in the island could not be provided the communication service because of above reasons. Because the Satellite communication systems have competitive power in price and technology nowdays, the utility could provide the communication service in even back land. This paper presents some of design efforts for the satellite communication systems as the voice network in the island.

There are several types of communication method which is used for the supply of electric power stably. But the communication methods used in KEPCO have weak points in the viewpoint of economy, technology and management. The Satellite communication systems have competitive power in price and technology for national wide utility owing to its wide area coverage and stability. This paper presents various adapted examples of the Power industry using he satellite communication systems.

A low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation could be used to provide network coverage for the entire globe. This study considers multi-beam frequency reuse in LEO satellite systems. In such a system, the channel is time-varying due to the fast movement of the satellite. This study proposes an efficient power and bandwidth allocation method that employs two linear machine learning algorithms and take channel conditions and traffic demand (TD) as input. With the aid of a simple linear system, the proposed scheme allows for the optimum allocation of resources under dynamic channel and TD conditions. Additionally, efficient projection schemes are added to the proposed method so that the provided capacity is best approximated to TD when TD exceeds the maximum allowable system capacity. The simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms existing methods.

The satellite on geostationary orbit accommodates multiple payloads into a single spacecraft platform and launched in June 26, 2010. The Electrical Power Subsystem provides a fully regulated power bus at $50V_{DC}$ in sunlight and eclipse conditions. The electrical power required to the satellite is generated by a solar array wing and the energy is stored by a Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 192.5Ah. This paper selects the main design parameters, compares and analyzes with the results at ground test and in orbit operation to apply this performance evaluation of the Electrical Power Subsystem to next satellite design on geostationary orbit. The Electrical Power Subsystem is demonstrated nominal behavior without significant degradation through the performance evaluation from design to in orbit operation.
The electricity supply industry for which high stability and quality of power are the primary aim of power company and the first order of business target. As the facilities of generations, transmissions and substations are increased every year, power system becomes more complex and hard to control. The complexity of the power system causes harmful influence on its security and power facilities. Moreover, difficulty of predicting weather condition in these days with its complexity increases the level of uncertainty of energy demand. Wide area online monitoring of power system offers lots of informations and solutions which clear the causes of insecurity in power system. In this paper, we presents the development of synchrophasor data measurement and transmission system using satellite network for power system online monitoring.

As a crucial development direction for the sixth generation of mobile communication networks (6G), Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite networks exhibit characteristics such as low latency, seamless coverage, and high bandwidth. However, the frequent changes in the topology of LEO satellite networks complicate communication between satellites, and satellite power resources are limited. To fully utilize resources on satellites, it is essential to determine the association between satellites before power allocation. To effectively address the satellite association problem in LEO satellite networks, this paper proposes a satellite association-based resource allocation algorithm. The algorithm comprehensively considers the throughput of the satellite network and the fairness associated with satellite correlation. It formulates an objective function with logarithmic utility by taking the logarithm and summing the satellite channel capacities. This aims to maximize the sum of logarithmic utility while promoting the selection of fewer associated satellites for forwarding satellites, thereby enhancing the fairness of satellite association. The problems of satellite association and power allocation are solved under constraints on resources and transmission rates, maximizing the logarithmic utility function. The paper employs an improved Kuhn-Munkres (KM) algorithm to solve the satellite association problem and determine the correlation between satellites. Based on the satellite association results, the paper uses the Lagrangian dual method to solve the power allocation problem. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm enhances the fairness of satellite association, optimizes resource utilization, and effectively improves the throughput of LEO satellite networks.
In this paper, a high efficiency satellite electrical power supply system is proposed. The increased efficiency of the power supply system allows for downscaling of the solar array and battery weight, which are among the most important satellite design considerations. The satellite power supply system comprises two units, namely a generation unit and a storage unit. To increase the efficiency of the solar array, a maximum power point tracker (MPPT) is used in the power generation unit. In order to improve the MPPT performance, a novel algorithm is proposed on the basis of the hill climbing method. This method can track the main peak of the array power curve in satellites with long duration missions under unpredicted circumstances such as a part of the array being damaged or the presence of a shadow. A lithium-ion battery is utilized in the storage unit. An algorithm for calculating the optimal rate of battery charging is proposed where the battery is charged with the maximum possible efficiency considering the situation of the satellite. The proposed system is designed and manufactured. In addition, it is compared to the conventional power supply systems in similar satellites. Results show a 12% increase in the overall efficiency of the power supply system when compared to the conventional method.

STEP Cube Lab (Cube Laboratory for Space Technology Experimental Project) is a 1U standardized pico-class satellite. Its main mission objective is an on-orbit verification of five fundamental core space technologies. For assuring a successful missions of the STEP Cube Lab with five payloads, electrical power subsystem (EPS) shall sufficiently provide an electrical power to payloads and bus systems of the satellite during an entire mission life. In this study, a design process of EPS system was introduced including power budget analysis considering a mission orbit and various mission modes of the satellite. In conclusion, adequate EPS hardware in compliance with design requirements were selected. The effectiveness and mission capability of EPS architecture design were confirmed through an energy balance analysis (EBA).
