Space-borne Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) has been one of the most effective tools for monitoring quantitative oceanographic physical parameters. The Doppler information recorded in single-channel SAR raw data can be useful in estimating moving velocity of water mass in ocean. The Doppler shift is caused by the relative motion between SAR sensor and the water mass of ocean surface. Thus, the moving velocity can be extracted by measuring the Doppler anomaly between extracted Doppler centroid and predicted Doppler centroid. The predicted Doppler centroid, defined as the Doppler centroid assuming that the target is not moving, is calculated based on the geometric parameters of a satellite, such as the satellite's orbit, look angle, and attitude with regard to the rotating Earth. While the estimated Doppler shift, corresponding to the actual Doppler centroid in the situation of real SAR data acquisition, can be extracted directly from raw SAR signal data, which usually calculated by applying the Average Cross Correlation Coefficient(ACCC). The moving velocity was further refined to obtain ocean surface current by subtracting the phase velocity of Bragg-resonant capillary waves. These methods were applied to Envisat ASAR raw data acquired in the East Sea, and the extracted ocean surface currents were compared with the current measured by HF-radar.

We present the results of VLA $NH_3$ (1,1) and (2,2) line observations of the young-stellar object (YSO) IRAS 19550+3248. The integrated intensity map of the $NH_3$ (1,1) line shows that there are two ammonia cores in this region; core A which is associated with the YSO, and core B which is diffuse and located at the northeast of core A. Core A is compact and elongated along the east-west direction (0.07 pc$\times$0.05 pc) roughly perpendicular to the molecular outflow axis. Core B is diffuse and extended (0.18 pc$\times$0.07 pc). $NH_3$ (2,2) line is detected only toward core A, which indicates that it is hotter (~ 15 K), presumably due to the heating by the YSO. The $NH_3$ (1,1) line toward core A is wide (${\Delta}v{\ge} 3 km s^{-l}$) and appears to have an anomalous intensity ratio of the inner satellite hyperfine lines. The large line width may be attributed to the embedded YSO, but the hyperfine anomaly is difficult to explain. We compare the results of $NH_3$ observations with those of previous CS observations and find that the CS emission is detected only toward core A and is much more extended than the $NH_3$ emission.

During extreme ionospheric storms, anomalous ionospheric delays and gradients could cause potential integrity threats to users of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) augmentation systems. GNSS augmentation ground facilities must monitor these ionospheric anomalies defined by a threat model and alarm the users of safely-of-life applications within time-to-alerts. Because the ionospheric anomaly threat model is developed using data collected from GNSS reference stations, the use of poor-quality data can degrade the performance of the threat model. As the total number of stations increases, the number of station with poor GNSS data quality also increases. This paper analyzes the quality of data collected from Korean GPS reference stations using comprehensive GNSS data quality check algorithms. The results show that the range of good and poor qualities varies noticeably for each quality parameter. Especially erroneous ionospheric delay and gradients estimates are produced due to poor quality data. The results obtained in this study should be a basis for determining GPS data quality criteria in the development of ionospheric threat models.
The information of ocean topology is the fundamental source which is necessary for understanding the ocean, producing nautical charts and delimiting maritime boundaries. An echo sounder is being used generally to collect undersea bathymetric data, but an indirect method such as geophysical data acquired by satellites is being used recently. In this study, the outputs of ocean surveying for the production of the Basic Maps of the Sea in 1996 and 1997 in the East Sea and the bathymetric data produced by geophysical data are compared and analyzed. The study areas are Ulleung Plateau, Ulleung Basin and the southern area of Ulleung Basin which have different geophysical characteristics. Through this study, we found that the bathymetric data acquired by an indirect method using satellite is similar to the field surveying results in general configuration of ocean floor and average depth. However, the minimum square error is about 100m in 1700m depth, and it has been observed a local error up to 1000m. In addition, it has been found that the detailed undulation of ocean topology is shown on the gravity data which is acquired by the research vessel.

We studied a structure of the Kunsan basin in the Yellow Sea using ship-borne magnetic data and altimetry satellite-derived gravity data provided from the Scripps institution of oceanography in 2006. The gravity data was analyzed via power spectrum analysis and gravity inversion, and the magnetic data via analytic signal technique, pseudo-gravity transformation, and its inversion. The results showed that the depth of bedrock tended to increase as we approached the center of the South Central Sag in Kunsan basin and that the maximum and minimum of its depth were estimated to be about 6-8 km and 2 km, respectively. Inaddition, the observed high anomaly of gravity and magnetism was attributed to the intrusion of igneous rock of higher density than the surrounding basement rock in the center of South Central Sag, which was consistent with the interpretation of seismic data obtained in the same region.

Knowledge of the ionospheric peak parameter foF2 (the critical frequency of F2 layer) is one of key essential factors for predicting ionospheric characteristics and delay correction of satellite positioning. However, the foF2 was almost estimated using an empirical model of International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) or other expensive observing techniques, such as ionosondes and scatter radar. In this paper, the ionospheric peak parameter foF2 is the first observed by ground-based GPS with all weather, low-cost and near real time properties. Compared with the IRI-2001 and independent ionosondes at or near the GPS receiver stations, the foF2 obtained from ground-based GPS is in better agreement, but closer to the ionosonde. However, during nighttime, the IRI model overestimated the GPS observed values during winter and equinox months.Furthermore, seasonal variation trend of the foF2 in 2003 is studied using foF2 monthly median hourly data measured over South Korea. It has shown that the systematic diurnal changes of foF2 are apparent in each season and the higher values of foF2 are observed during the equinoxes (semiannual anomaly) as well as in mid-daytime of each season.

This paper develops a complete methodology for the mitigation of ionosphere spatial anomalies by GBAS systems fielded in the Conterminous U.S. (CONUS). It defines an ionosphere anomaly threat model based on validated observations of unusual ionosphere events in CONUS impacting GBAS sites in the form of a linear ‘wave front’ of constant slope and velocity. It then develops a simulation-based methodology for selecting the worst-case ionosphere wave front impact impacting two satellites simultaneously for a given GBAS site and satellite geometry, taking into account the mitigating effects of code-carrier divergence monitoring within the GBAS ground station. The resulting maximum ionosphere error in vertical position (MIEV) is calculated and compared to a unique vertical alert limit, or $VAL_{H2,I}$, that applies to the special situation of worst-case ionosphere gradients. If MIEV exceeds $VAL_{H2,I}$ for one or more otherwise-usable subset geometries (i.e., geometries for which the 'normal' vertical protection level, or $VPL_{H0}$, is less than the 'normal' VAL), the broadcast ${\sigma}_{pr_{-}gnd}$ and/or ${\sigma}_{vig}$ must be increased such that all such potentially-threatening geometries have VPL$_{H0}$ > VAL and thus become unavailable. In addition to surveying all aspects of the methods used to generate the required ${\sigma}_{pr_{-}gnd}$ and ${\sigma}_{vig}$ inflation factors for CONUS GBAS sites, related methods for deriving similar results for GBAS sites outside CONUS are suggested.

GNSS-Reflectometry (GNSS-R) is a technique for measuring and analyzing signals transmitted from satellites, reflecting on the surface of land or sea. GNSS-R is mainly used for measuring the water level variation, typhoon and meteorological anomaly, soil moisture, and snow depth. This paper describes the concept and measurement principle of GNSS-R technology, especially focusing on the field of marine utilization and its feasibility. In particular, it presents the applications of this technique for monitoring the safety of marine environment as well as the marine vessel and their utilization areas based on currently available infrastructure on the ground and maritime reference stations, such as the existing differential GNSS reference stations and integrity monitors (DGNSS RSIM), and GNSS reference station infrastructure, using the ground-based and the satellite-based GNSS-R approaches.

Against Anomaly of GPS, there are several projects of independent satellite navigation systems like Galileo of Europe and QZSS of Japan and modernization of terrestrial navigation system like Loran. In domestic, the need of independent navigation system was proposed and DGPS signal was nominated as the possible substitute. The DGPS signal uses medium frequency, which travels through the surface and cause the additional delay rather than the speed of light according to Conductivities and elevations of the irregular terrain. The similar approach is Locan-C. Loran-C has been widely used as the maritime location system. Loran-C uses the ASF estimation method and provides more precise positioning. However there was rarely research on this area in Korea Therefore, we introduce the legacy guaranteed model of additional delay(ASF) and present the results of implementation. With the comparison of the original Monteath results and BALOR results respectively, we guarantee that the implementation is absolutely perfect. For further works, we're going to apply the ASF estimation model to Korean DGPS system with the Korean terrain data.
The information of surface reflectance ($R_{sfc}$) is important for the heat balance and the environmental/climate monitoring. The $R_{sfc}$ sensitivity to error-induced variables for the Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer (GEMS) retrieval from geostationary-orbit satellite observations at 300-500 nm was investigated, utilizing polar-orbit satellite data of the MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and Ozone Mapping Instrument (OMI), and the radiative transfer model (RTM) experiment. The variables in this study can be cloud, Rayleigh-scattering, aerosol, ozone and surface type. The cloud detection in high-resolution MODIS pixels ($1km{\times}1km$) was compared with that in GEMS-scale pixels ($8km{\times}7km$). The GEMS detection was consistent (~79%) with the MODIS result. However, the detection probability in partially-cloudy (${\leq}40%$) GEMS pixels decreased due to other effects (i.e., aerosol and surface type). The Rayleigh-scattering effect in RGB images was noticeable over ocean, based on the RTM calculation. The reflectance at top of atmosphere ($R_{toa}$) increased with aerosol amounts in case of $R_{sfc}$<0.2, but decreased in $R_{sfc}{\geq}0.2$. The $R_{sfc}$ errors due to the aerosol increased with wavelength in the UV, but were constant or slightly decreased in the visible. The ozone absorption was most sensitive at 328 nm in the UV region (328-354 nm). The $R_{sfc}$ error was +0.1 because of negative total ozone anomaly (-100 DU) under the condition of $R_{sfc}=0.15$. This study can be useful to estimate $R_{sfc}$ uncertainties in the GEMS retrieval.
