Objectives: This study aims to find out the association between Sasang and Eight Constitution by analyzing Sasang and Eight Constitution Diagnosis results. Methods: We analyzed Sasang and Eight Constitution Diagnosis results according to confidence, by reviewing medical records of 247 patients retrospectively whose Sasang and Eight constitutions were diagnosed by two independent specialists. We used chi-square test and Cramer Statistic to know association of two diagnosis results. Results and Conclusions: Taeumin was 49.8% in Jupita, Soeumin 65.2% in Mercuria, Soyangin 90.9% in Saturna, Taeumin was 54.2% in Jupita, Soeumin 83.4% in Mercuria, Soyangin 100% in Saturna in condition that Sasang and Eight Constitution diagnosis confidence is over Band 50 score. The higher diagnosis confidence is, also the higher association between Sasang and Eight Constitution is up to 0.414(Cramer Statistic). There is association between Sasang and Eight Constitution.

1. Objectives This study was to investigate correlation between the diagnosis of Sasang Constitutional Medicine(SCM) and the differentiation of syndromes according to the state of Qi, Blood, Body Fluid, Phlegm retention and the five viscera in storke inpatients. 2. Methods Stroke inpatients were investigated through questionaire of differentiation of syndromes and QSCC2. The results were analyzed statistically by one-way ANOVA on SPSS 12. 3. Results and Conclusions 1) Soeumin had a high grade on Qi-insufficiency than other consititutions. 2) Soyangin had a low grade on Qi-insufficiency, spleen disease than other consititutions. 3) There were not significant results in the investigation item of the sweating, constipation, diarrhea, anorexia, abdominal pain among the constitutions.

Objectives : he purpose of this study was to examine the genetic variations and changes of gene expression in the human constitutions. Methods : To analysis variations of individual gene expression, we had selected three groups of volunteers. In each group have a typical constitutional characteristics. By this rime we are analyzed their gene expression patterns by using DNA chip. Results : we can acquire a new information of standard for human constitutions. 1. The 21 genes under express and 3 genes over express in So-Yang constitution 2. The 18 genes under express and 18 genes over express in So-Eum constitution 3. The 16 genes under express and 2 genes over express in Tae-Eum constitution Conclusions : Constitution, QSCCII, Character, Genome, DNA chip.

1. Objectives The main ingredient of ephedra is ephedrine which affects on autonomic nervous system induce some adverse effects just like vasoconstriction, hypertension, tachycardia, miosis, insomnia, dizziness, headache, and etc. and heart disease. If we use Mahuang according to the Sasang constitution classification in clinic, we could not only may minimize the anxiety but maximize the potential curative value in Asthma Treatment. 2. Methods On a day three times in Mahangjungchentang taken patients who with Ventricular septal defect in the aftermath of the RBBB. We are observed that the main symptoms of change, vital sign, sleep, stool, urine, heart disease. 3. Results Teaumin with asthma, the effect of Mahuang, and the side effects are fewer. The individual effects of herbs are important. but Sasang constitutional effects are important too. 4 Conclusions Mahuang can increase heart disease. But there was a difference among Sasang constitution classification. This has no side effects from Teaumin than other constitutions. If we use Mahuang according to the Sasang constitution classification in clinic. We have an excellent effect on the treatment of asthma.

1. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to find the association between personality pattern and quality of life according to Sasang Constitution. 2. Methods: The 529 subjects whose constitutions had been confirmed by the experts on the base of drug response were recruited. Personality questionnaire was composed of 15 personal characteristics items measuring the influence of yin/yang and health estimating instrument was SF-12 evaluating the quality of life. Two-way ANOVA was conducted to analyze the Sasang Constitutional difference according to personality pattern. 3. Results: There were 5 different items in PCS(physical component summary), 7 different items in MCS(mental component summary). The individual scores of 3 items - give up easily/stand, decide easily/hard and be exited easily/rationalwere different according to the Sasang Constitution. 4. Conclusions: We suggest that psychological factors may affect the health state, especially might affect the health state of Sasang Constitution differently.

1. Objectives This is the comparative study with hand-operated measurement method & Automatic measurement method, in order to convert the automatic measurement method. 2. Methods We measured the body of patients(hand-operated width 5 places and hand-operated circumference 8 places, Automatic width 5 places) and analyzed the anthropometric data dividing into sex, age, BMI. 1057 patients's data are used in the analysis. 3. Results and Conclusions 1) 5th Width variable which was measured during lying down was not a sasang constitutional difference. 2) Diagnostic accuracy rate of the body measurement by Width which was measured during lying down and Width which IBS standing was 40-60%. 3) Diagnostic accuracy rate of Automatic & hand-operated measuring was not a big difference.

Objective: This study examined the distribution of married couples' Sasang constitutions. Method: This study was researched clinically using medical records of 206 married couples who visited the Kyung Hee University East-West neo medical center in Seoul between May of 2006 and June of 2008. Results: 1. When a man is So-yangin, his wife's Sasang constitutional type is So-yangin 7.7%, Tae-eumin 53.8%, So-eumin 38.5%. A Tae-eumin wife is significantly more common than the other two groups. 2. When a man is Tae-eumin, his wife's Sasang constitutional type is Tae-yangin 0.9%, So-yangin 53.9%, Tae-eumin 8.7%, So-eumin 36.5%. Proportion of So-yangin wife is significantly higher than the other three groups. 3. When a man is So-eumin, his wife's Sasang constitutional type is So-yangin 61.5%, Tae-eumin 29.2%, So-eumin 9.2%. A So-yangin wife is found at a significantly higher rate than the other two groups. Conclusion: A So-yangin man is most likely to marry a Tae-eumin woman. A Tae-eumin man is most likely to marry a So-yangin woman. A So-eumin man is most likely to marry a So-yangin woman.

Purpose In Sasang Constitution Medicine, persons are divided into four types such as Taeyangin, Taeumin, Soyangin and Soeumin according to their appearance, moral nature and characteristic of constitutional symptoms. In teenager group, diagnosis of constitution based on their appearance was so difficult that we adopted new diagnostic method which measures and compares body compositions. Methods 180 middle school students who live in Pusan were studied from 20th of March, 1999 to 20th of March, 2000. After practicing Questionnaire(I), QSCC(Questionnaire of Sasang Constitution) I , QSCCII, we have measured the height and body compositions with Inbody 3.0, five times. Results 1. The results of Sasang Constitution analysis showed 91 students were classified as Taeumin(50.3%), 75 as Soyangin(41.4%), 14 as Soeumin(7.7%), and 1 as Taeyangin(0.6%). 2. The level of total body water, muscle area, BMR(Basal Metabolic Rate), BCM(Body Cell Mass), and AMC(Arm Muscle Circumference) were increased during spring and summer. That of body weight, fat body weight, fat body weight ratio, waist hip ratio, and BMI(Body Mass Index were increased during fall and winter. 3. In Taeumin and Soyangin groups, the changed capacity of total body water, muscle area and BMR were increased with statistical significance. 4. Waist hip ratio of Soeumin group was reduced more than those of Taeumin, Soyangin groups with statistical significance.

This study was performed to examine a clinical application of the QSCC II (Questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution Classification II) In this study, the subjects were 218 patients whose constitutions were differentiated at the Wonkwang Kwangju Oriental medical hospital. The results are as follows: 1. QSCC II were given to 218 patients after they were examined by the specialists in the Sasang constitutional medicine and received herbal formulas specific to their constitution. The constitutional analysis made by the specialists were then compared to the results of the questionnaire. The result showed only 51% agreement. 2. We made a frequency analysis of 121 questions and found that 85 questions had low statistical significance (P>0.2). 3. As a result, we have found that there is a limitation in differentiating the constitution by the questionnaire. Thus, in order to raise the statistical significance of the constitutional analysis, we hope that more suitable questionnaire will be developed for the future research.

Sweating is a important concept with Sasang Constitutional Medicine After studying about sweating of four constitutions, I can get a conclusion. It is summarized as follows. 1. In Taeyangin(太陽人) and Taeumin(太陰人) sweating can be explained by symptom of Kiekjiki(氣液之氣), and can be explained by symptom of Suekjiki(水液之氣) in Soeumin(少陰人) and Soyangin(少陽人) 2. Sweating of Soeumin(少陰人) is a expression of strength or weakness of Bijang(脾臟) 3. Sweating of Soyangin(少陽人) is a expression of Kangeum(降陰) and Yangyak(陽弱) 4. Sweating of Taeumin(太陰人) is a expression of Paejang(肺臟)'s function
