Bending and buckling analysis of multi-directional porous functionally graded sandwich plate has been performed for two cases namely: FG skin with homogeneous core and FG core with homogeneous skin. The principle of virtual displacements was employed and the solution was obtained using Navier's technique. This theory imposes traction-free boundary conditions on the surfaces and does not require shear correction factors. The validation of the present study has been performed with those available in the literature. The composition of metal-ceramic-based FGM changes in longitudinal and transverse directions according to the power law. Different porosity laws, such as uniform distribution, unevenly and logarithmically uneven distributions were used to mimic the imperfections in the functionally graded material that were introduced during the fabrication process. Several sandwich plates schemes were studied based on the plate's symmetry and the thickness of each layer. The effects of grading parameters and porosity laws on the bending and buckling of sandwich plates were examined.
This study investigates the wave propagation in porous functionally graded (FG) sandwich plates subjected to hygrothermal environments. A new simple three-unknown first-ordershear deformation theory (FSDT) incorporating an integral term is utilized in this paper. Only three unknowns are used to formulate the governing differential equation by applying the Hamilton principle. The FG layer of the sandwich plate is modeled using the power-law function with evenly distributed porosities to represent the defects of the manufacturing process. The plate is subjected to nonlinear hygrothermal changes across the thickness. The effects of the power-law exponent, core to thickness ratios, porosity volume, and the relations between volume fraction and wave properties of porous FG plate under the hygrothermal environment are investigated. The results showed that the waves' phase velocities increase linearly with the waves number in the FGM plate. The porosity of the FG materials plate has a noticeable impact on the phase velocity when considering the high ratios of the core layer. It has a negligible effect on small core layers. Finally, it is observed that changing temperatures and moistures do not influence the relationship between the power law and the phase velocity.

Free vibration analysis of power law and sigmoidal sandwich plates made up of functionally graded materials (FGMs) has been carried out using finite element based higher-order zigzag theory. The present model satisfies all-important conditions such as transverse shear stress-free conditions at the plate's top and bottom surface along with continuity condition for transverse stresses at the interface. A Nine-noded C0 finite element having eleven degrees of freedom per node is used during the study. The present model is free from the requirement of any penalty function or post-processing technique and hence is computationally efficient. The present model's effectiveness is demonstrated by comparing the present results with available results in the literature. Several new results have been proposed in the present work, which will serve as a benchmark for future works. It has been observed that the material variation law, power-law exponent, skew angle, and boundary condition of the plate widely determines the free vibration behavior of sandwich functionally graded (FG) plate.

This theory imposes traction-free boundary conditions on the surfaces and does not require shear correction factors. The results obtained are validated with those available in the literature. The composition of metal-ceramic-based functionally graded material (FGM) changes in longitudinal and transverse directions according to the power law. Imperfections in the functionally graded material introduced during the fabrication process were modeled with different porosity laws such as evenly, unevenly distributed, and logarithmic uneven distributions. The effect of porosity laws and geometry parameters on the natural frequency was investigated. On comparing the natural frequency of two cases for perfect and imperfect sandwich plates a reverse trend in natural frequency result was seen. The finding shows a multidirectional functionally graded structures perform better compared to uni-directional gradation. Hence, critical grading parameters and imperfection types have been identified which will guide experimentalists and researchers in selecting fabrication routes for improving the performance of such structures.
The current work, present dynamic analysis of the FG-sandwich plate seated on elastic foundation with various kinds of support using refined shear deformation theory. The present analytical model is simplified which the unknowns number are reduced. The zero-shear stresses at the free surfaces of the FG-sandwich plate are ensured without introducing any correction factors. The four equations of motion are determined via Hamilton's principle and solved by Galerkin's approach for FG-sandwich plate with three kinds of the support. The proposed analytical model is verified by comparing the results with those obtained by other theories existing in the literature. The parametric studies are presented to detect the various parameters influencing the fundamental frequencies of the symmetric and non-symmetric FG-sandwich plate with various boundary conditions.

Recently, with development of mechanics of materials, as pursuing the high speed of the ships, there has been an increasing demand on the composite construction which satisfies high strength and low weight at the same time. A sandwich element is a type of composite construction, which is composed of thin, strong, stiff and relatively high density faces and a thick, light, and weaker core material. As the second moment is increased by faces separated from the neutral axis farther, a sandwich element is most effective light structural form. In this study, Rayleigh-Ritz Energy Method is adopted, which can analyze sandwich plate relatively simply and exactly. Stresses and buckling loads are analyzed exactly, when uniform lateral pressure load, inplane compression and inplane shear are acting at the sandwich plate. Including a wrinkling stress, this study can be applied to the initial design and minimum weight design of sandwich plates.
In this research work, the hygrothermal and mechanical buckling responses of simply supported FG sandwich plate seated on Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation are investigated using a novel shear deformation theory. The current model take into consideration the shear deformation effects and ensures the zero shear stresses on the free surfaces of the FG-sandwich plate without requiring the correction factors "Ks". The material properties of the faces sheets of the FG-sandwich plate are assumed varies as power law function "P-FGM" and the core is isotropic (purely ceramic). From the virtual work principle, the stability equations are deduced and resolved via Navier model. The hygrothermal effects are considered varies as a nonlinear, linear and uniform distribution across the thickness of the FG-sandwich plate. To check and confirm the accuracy of the current model, a several comparison has been made with other models found in the literature. The effects the temperature, moisture concentration, parameters of elastic foundation, side-to-thickness ratio, aspect ratio and the inhomogeneity parameter on the critical buckling of FG sandwich plates are also investigated.

In this paper, a numerical solution is presented for supersonic flutter analysis of cantilever non-symmetric functionally graded (FG) sandwich plates. The plate is considered to be composed of two different functionally graded face sheets and an isotropic homogeneous core made of ceramic. Based on the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and linear piston theory, the set of governing equations and boundary conditions are derived. Dimensionless form of the governing equations and boundary conditions are derived and solved numerically using generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) and critical velocity and flutter frequencies are calculated. For various values of the yaw angle, effect of different parameters like aspect ratio, thickness of the plate, power law indices and thickness of the core on the flutter boundaries are investigated. Numerical examples show that wings and tail fins with larger length and shorter width are more stable in supersonic flights. It is concluded for FG sandwich plates made of Al-Al2O3 that increase in volume fraction of ceramic (Al2O3) increases aeroelastic stability of the plate. Presented study confirms that improvement of aeroelastic behavior and weight of wings and tail fins of aircrafts are not consistent items. It is shown that value of the critical yaw angle depends on aspect ratio of the plate and other parameters including thickness and variation of properties have no considerable effect on it. Results of this paper can be used in design and analysis of wing and tail fin of supersonic airplanes.

In this research, a simple hyperbolic shear deformation theory is developed and applied for the bending, vibration and buckling of powerly graded material (PGM) sandwich plate with various boundary conditions. The displacement field of the present model is selected based on a hyperbolic variation in the in-plane displacements across the plate's thickness. By splitting the deflection into the bending and shear parts, the number of unknowns and equations of motion of the present formulation is reduced and hence makes them simple to use. Equations of motion are obtained from Hamilton's principle. Numerical results for the natural frequencies, deflections and critical buckling loads of several types of powerly graded sandwich plates under various boundary conditions are presented. The accuracy of the present formulation is demonstrated by comparing the computed results with those available in the literature. As conclusion, this theory is as accurate as other theories available in the literature and so it becomes more attractive due to smaller number of unknowns.

The sandwich panel is commonly used domestically because it's less costly and easier to handle. But fires have frequently occurred in buildings employing sandwich panels, such as the fires in Eecheon cold storage and in Gwangju Pyungdong industrial zone. Sandwich panels with steel plates on their surface prevent fire water from penetrating to the fire source, which makes it difficult to extinguish a fire in a timely manner. Toxic gas generated from some insulation material leads to serious loss of life and property. This study is intended to develop an extinguishing system for sandwich panels, thereby reducing the fire risk. Fire water and volume were determined in the wake of the study on the structure of a sandwich panel extinguishing system, and improvement and testing of the fire characteristics of the sandwich panel. Based on such study and test, a fire model test was conducted. Consequently, the sandwich panel with extinguishing system was proven to have a reduced fire risk, compared to traditional or fire retardant panels.
