The stratigraphy of the Gomso-Bay tidal flat consists of basement, preHolocene oxidized unit, and Holocene tidal sequence in ascending order. The oxidized unit is a yellowish brown stiff mud of the last stadial (or subglacial) stage before 12,000 yr B.P. This yellowish brown preHolocene unit does not contain any marine fossils, but contains plant roots, plant fragments, and also vertical and horizontal microfractures indicating soil-formation when exposed. It is regarded as interfluve deposits. The Holocene tidal sequence is composed of lower mud facies (upper-flat muds), upper sand and muddy sand facies (middle to lower-flat sands). This coarsening-upward and retrograding pattern of Holocene tidal deposits reflects a Holocene sea-level rise. The plots of $\^$14/C-age versus depth of dated samples (peats and shells) show that the sea level of 7,000 yr B.P. was located about 6.5 m below the present mean sea level, and the sea levels of 4,000 yr B.P. and 2,000 yr B.P. were also situated about 3 m and 2.5 m below the present mean sea level, respectively.
This study is aimed at suggesting ways to develop field trip or learning materials focusing on environment of Jeju seashore in order to make an effective field trip. To perform these purposes, the contents and concepts were analyzed from environment-related 'geological unit' of elementary science textbook. Afterwards, the places having the geological features in coincidence with them are chosen, and investigated, and these regions can develop into geological teaming places for field trip. Each teaming spot focuses on understanding and finding out the characteristic geological environment of rock shore, gravel shore, sand shore, shellfish shore, and tideland shore among Jeju shores. When field trip is conducted at the preparatory stage, students can get advance knowledge on geological concepts from textbook. The activity record paper is presented at the field trip stage where students observe geological phenomena on their own. After field trip is finished, the summary stage is given to solve some problems on the basis of the observed contents. The developed data from this research have its regional limits, but is surely useful for teachers who try to plan field trip when they especially choose the right field trip spots, or plan to make the process for field trip preparation of the environmental education. Furthermore, with this survey and activities, students can take the chance to improve the learning effect through their own experience on environment of Jeju seashore.
Exterior walls in buildings are exposed to various forms of thermal loads, which depend on the positions of walls. Therefore, one of the efficient methods for improving the energy competence of buildings is improving the thermal properties of insulation plaster mortar. In this study, lightweight fine aggregate (LWFA) and micro rubber ash (MRA) from recycled tires were used as partial replacements for sand. The flow ability, unit weight, compressive strength, tensile strength, thermal conductivity (K-value), drying shrinkage and microstructure scan of lightweight rubberized mortar (LWRM) were investigated. Ten mixtures of LWRM were prepared as follows: traditional cement mortar (control mixture); three mixes with different percentages of LWFA (25%, 50% and 75%); three mixes with different percentages of MRA (2.5%, 5% and 7.5%); and three mixes consisting both types with determined ratios (25% LWFA+5% MRA, 50% LWFA+5% MRA and 75% LWFA+5% MRA). The flow ability of the mortars was 22±2 cm, and LWRM contained LWFA and MRA. The compressive and tensile strength decreased by approximately 64% and 57%, respectively, when 75% LWFA was used compared with those when the control mix was used. The compressive and tensile strength decreased when 5% MRA was used. By contrast, mixes with determined ratios of LWFA and MRA affected reduced unit weight, K-value and dry shrinkage.

Recent geomorphological changes and late Quaternary depositional sequences of Gwangyang Bay are studied based on bathymetric maps, surface sediments, and seismic profiles. As a result of the reclamation of coastal area for an industrial complex construction, the coastline of Gwangyang Bay has rapidly been changed and the area of it has now been reduced by about 25 % in the last 30 years. In addition, the bottom topography is actively modified by dredging for navigation channels. In surfical sediment distribution, the western part of Gwangyang Bay is dominated by mud facies, whereas the eastern part of the Bay is dominated by sand-mud mixing facies. Depositional sequences above the basement are divided into two units: Unit I in upper layer and Unit II in lower one. These depositional units are unconformably bounded by middle reflector-M. Unit II, mostly occupying the channel areas, is interpreted as fluvial-origin deposits during sea-level lowstand. Unit I typically shows a progradational pattern from the Seomjin River mouth to the Yeosu Strait, which is interpreted as deltaic deposits supplied from the Seomjin River during the Holocene sea-level highstand. The shallow gas within the sediments Is widely distributed in most area, and locally exposed onto the sea-bed due to dredging.
Interpretation of high-resolution seismic profiles collected from the inner shetf of the Korea Strait reveals that the shelf sequence in this area consists of three sedimentary units (I, II, and III in a descending order) formed after the last glacial maximum. Lower two units (II and III) represent the transgressive systems tract formed during the Holocene transgression, Unit III above the sequence boundary is interpreted to be the transgressive estuarine deposit, whereas Unit ll above the ravinement surface forms a thin transgressive sand which consists of the sediment produced through shoreface erosion and winnowing during the transgression. Unit I above the maximum flooding surface is the highstand systems tract consisting mainly of recent muds derived from the Nakdong River.
Raw perlite is a volcanic alumino-silicate and is used as aggregate in the construction industry. The high silica and alumina contained in the raw perlite allows the production of geopolymer mortar with the help of alkaline solutions. In this study, different geopolymer mortars are obtained by mixing ground perlite (GP), sodium hydroxide (NaOH), water and CEN standard sand and the strength and microstructure of these mortars are investigated. Mortar specimens are placed in the oven 24 hours after casting and kept at different temperatures and times, then the specimens are cured under laboratory conditions until the day of strength tests. After curing, unit weight, ultrasound pulse velocity, flexural and compressive strengths are determined. Experimental results indicate that the mechanical properties of the mortars enhance with increasing oven-curing period and temperatures as well as increasing NaOH molarity. In addition, SEM/EDS and XRD analyses are performed on the mortar specimens and the results are interpreted.

This study examines the physical and mechanical properties of the concrete using rice straw ash. Materials used for this experiment are rice straw ash, normal portland cement, superplasticizer, natural sand and gravel. Test results show that the unit weights of concrete using rice straw ash were decreased 1 ∼ 3% and the highest strengths were achieved by 5% filled rice straw ash concrete, with increase of compressive strength by 19%, tensile strength by 53% and bending strength by 16%, as compared with those of the normal cement concrete. The strength ratio of rice straw ash concrete was higher than that of the normal cement concrete. Also, the durability against sulfuric acid 5% solution was increased with increase of the content of rice straw ash. It was 1.33 times of the normal cement concrete by 10% filled rice straw ash concrete and 1.47 times by 15% filled rice straw ash concrete, respectively Accordingly, rice straw ash concrete will greatly improve the properties of concrete.

Structural lightweight concrete will reduced total loads of supporting sections and foundations in archtectural and civil structures. So, the lightweight concrete can be used widely for various purpose in the archtectural and civil structures. This paper were examined the influence of the mixing factor on the fresh and hardened properties of lightweight concrete that are used 2types of the differences properties of lightweight aggregates. According to types of lightweight aggregates, the case of synthetic lightweight aggregate are have need higher s/a; 2~4% on mixing proportion. Lightweight concrete was somewhat exhibit lower compressive strength than ordinary concrete. However it was not showed a marked difference. According to types of lightweight aggregates, the case of synthetic the lightweight aggregate are highest performance in fresh and hardened concrete.

The steel slag, a by-product which is produced on the process of manufacturing steel by refining pig iron is mainly used as road materials after aging it. It is necessary to age steel slag for long time in air because the reaction with water and free-CaO in steel slag could make the volume expanded. Due to this reason it prevents steel slag from being used as aggregate of concrete. But steel slag used in this study is controled by a air-jet method which rapidly cools substance melted at a high temperature. Rapid cooling prevents from generating of free-CaO in steel slag. In this study, it was investigated that steel slag manufactured by air-jet method affects on concrete in the freezing and thawing. As results of this study, concrete mixed with steel slag was worse in the freezing and thawing than concrete mixed with sand in spite of using air entraining agent. To obtain durability of concrete in the freezing and thawing, it is desirable to mix 50% of steel slag in concrete per unit weight of volume.

Concrete has a many problems to apply high rise building of its low strength to weight and low ductility, compared to steel products. Therefore, it is necessary to make high strength concrete for applying to night rise building. In the experiment, the high strength concrete was made in variable of unit weight of binder, water to binder ratio(W/B), and sand to aggregate ratio(S/a) using batcher plant. As a result, it was possible to make high strength concrete using only materials for ordinary concrete without admixtures such like silica fume in batcher plant.
