  • This study developed a big data-based STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) program using WWT (World Wide Telescope), focusing on content elements of 'solar system', 'star and universe' in the 2015 revised science curriculum, and in order to find out the effectiveness of the STEAM program, analyzed creative problem solving, STEAM attitude, and STEAM satisfaction by applying it to one middle school 176 students simple random sampled. The results of this study are as follows. First, we developed a program to encourage students to actively and voluntarily participating, utilizing the astronomical data platform WWT. Second, in the paired t-test based on the difference between the pre- and post-scores of the creative problem solving measurement test, significant statistical test results were shown in 'idea adaptation', 'imaging', 'analogy', 'idea production' and 'elaboration' sub-factors except 'attention task' sub-factor (p < .05). Third, in the paired t-test based on the difference between the pre- and post-scores of the STEAM attitude test, significant statistical test results were shown in 'interest', 'communication', 'self-concept', 'self-efficacy' and 'science and engineering career choice' sub-factors except 'consideration' and 'usefulness / value recognition' sub-factors (p < .05). Fourth, in the STEAM satisfaction test conducted after class application, the average values of sub-factors were 3.16~3.90. The results indicated that students' understanding and interest in the science subject improved significantly through the big data-based STEAM program using the WWT.

  • Deutzia paniculata is an endemic species, which is geographically restricted within southern part of Korea. Four populations of D. paniculata were sampled across its natural range, from the smallest population, Mt. Dalum, which held less than 100 individuals, to the largest, Mt. Unmum, over 3,500 individuals. Artificial pollination study showed that D. paniculata had an obligate outcross breeding system. Major pollinators were two bee species, Lasioglossum exiliceps and Allograpta balteata (de Geer). The breeding system and patterns of allozyme variation of D. paniculata were investigated to understand the population biology and to explain on reserve designs and management proposals relevant to this species. D. paniculata held relatively low genetic variation at the eight allozyme loci surveyed. Measures of genetic variation in this species alleles per locus ($A_s=1.33$), proportion of polymorphic loci (P=23.85%), and expected heterozygosity ($H_{es}=0.110$) were similar to values reported for endemic species. Mt. Dalum population (DAL) was composed with one clone based on allozyme data. Individuals of D. paniculata were frequently included in root connected clusters. Population genetic structure between and within four populations was probably the result of shrinking effective population size and the extinctions of intervening populations. For the conservation of genetic diversity, maximum number of different genotype need to be protected based on genetic structure and mating system.

  • To design more efficient agricultural machinery, the accurately measuring system among many other factors is essential. A light-beam oscillographic recorder is generally used in measuring dynamic strain but it is not compatible with the extremely high speed measuring system such as 1,000 m/s, also is susceptable to damage due to vibration while using the system in field. The recorder used light sensitive paper for strip chart recording. The reading and analysis of data from the strip charts is very cumbersome, errorneous and time consuming. A microcomputer was interfaced with A/D converter, microcomputer program was developed for measuring, system calibration was done and the strain generated from a cantilever beam vibrator was measured. The results are summarized as follows. 1. Microcomputer program was developed to perform strain measuring of agricultural machine elements and could be controled freely the measuring intervals, no. of channels and no. of data. The maximum measuring speed was $62{\mu}s$. 2. Calibration the system was performed with triangle wave generated from a function generator and checked by an oscilloscope. The sampled data were processed using HP 3000 minicomputer of Chungnam National University computer center the graphical results were triangle same as input wave and so the system have been out of phase distorsion and amplitude distorsion. 3. The strain generated from a cantilever beam vibrator which has free vibration period of 0.019 second were measured by the system controlled to have l.0 ms of time interval and its computer output showing vibration curve which is well filted to theoretical value. 4. Using microcomputer on measuring the strain of agricultural machine elements could not only save analyzing time and recording papers but also get excellent adaptation to field experiment, especially in measurement requiring high speed and good precision.

  • The ideal goal of the coronary artery bypass surgery is complete revascularization. To estimate the numerical degree of completeness of revascularization, the following formula was used in 50 patients having aorta-coronary bypass grafting for the treatment of unstable angina. myocardial perfusion score of revascularized area Degree of Completeness = ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- x100[%] preoperative myocardial perfusion score Randomized patients who underwent revascularization procedures in 19Hb were compared with the patients who received similar elective operation each year from 1988 through 1991. To obtain these data, the patients aged 38 ~ 75[mean 54$\pm$9.1years], composed of 31 males and 19 females were randomly sampled. The number of grafts per patient increased from 2.30 in 1986, to 3.07 in 1988 - 89, to 3.21 in 1990, and to 3.50 in 1991. [0.05 The degree of completeness improved from 75.4% to 81.4%, 91.6% and 88.6% respectively. It improved significantly in the last two years, [P<0.05, Mann-Whitney U test] At a follow-up of three months, 90 percent[45/50] of patients remained angina, free, 6 percent[3/50] had residual angina, and 4 percent[2/50] died. The last two patients degree of completeness corresponded to 43% and 30% respectively As a conclusion, the degree of completeness seems to improve year by year, and to have close relationship with the clinical results.

  • The purpose of this study was to find the mediation effect of job satisfaction between job autonomy and career maturity in high school students. It sampled 849 students who have experienced part-time work. Data were analyzed by regression analysis with SPSS 18.0 version. Results showed significant relationships between socio-economic variables(gender, educational aspiration) and main variables. Females showed higher level of job autonomy, job satisfaction, and career maturity than males' ones. Second, job autonomy was a significant predictor of career maturity by gender and educational aspiration. In addition, job satisfaction proved to have a partial mediating effect on job autonomy and career maturity. Based on the results, this study suggest that adolescents actively participate when they work on the field, and employers have to recognize a role of collaborator about vocational education to increase the career maturity of adolescents. Also, communities and schools have to give adolescents right information on job and make an official system to find a good job.

  • In this study, a comprehensive field monitoring was conducted to understand habitat conditions of fish species in the upper Geum river. Based on the monitoring data, riverine health conditions such as composition ratio of fish species, richness and dominance indexes, bio-diversity (dominance index, diversity, evenness and richness), and index of biological integrity were assessed, and optimal ecological flowrates were estimated using the habitat suitability indexes established for three fish species Coreoleuciscus splendidus, Zacco platypus and Pseudopungtungia nigra selected as icon species using the physical habitat simulation system (PHABSIM). The total number of species sampled was 20 species, and two sensitive species of C. splendidus (22.4%) and Z. platypus (22.0%) dominated the fish community. The estimated IBI values ranged from 34 to 42 with average being 38 out of 50, rendering the site ecologically fair to good health conditions. An optimal ecological flowrate of 9.0 cms was recommended for the representative fish species at the site.

  • As part of an air pollution epidemiological study of asthmatics residing in the Houston area, an air monitoring system provided data on the indoor and outdoor measurements of major pollutant gases sampled at selected residences during May ~ October 1981. Continuously monitored pollutant gases included sulfur dioxide ($SO_2$), nitrogen dioxide($NO_2$), nitric oxide(NO), carbon monoxide(CO), and ozone($O_3$). Outdoor levels for each pollutant were compared with their indoor levels(bedroom, kitchen, living room). Mean concentrations of each pollutant in the kitchen, and living room exceeded the mean levels outside except for ozone, while average bedroom levels for all gases except for $O_3$ and $NO_2$ were found higher than the corresponding outside levels. Indoor/ outdoor ratios for $SO_2$, NO, and CO were 1.8 ~ 2.7 times the outdoor levels, but indoor/ outdoor ratios for $NO_2$ and $O_3$ were 0.99 and 0.06, respectively. The impact of several important household characteristics (type of cooking fuel and cigarette smoking) on the indoor levels for these gases is evaluated.

  • The longitudinal trend of elementary and secondary students' science process skills were investigated to monitor the progress of science learning. Science process skill test, developedin an earlier study on developing a national science process skills assessment system, was revised and administered for the study on March, 1999. Subjects were sampled nation wide according to sex and region. The results of this assessments were compared to those administered on February, 1997. The results showed little difference on science process skills among elementary school students. However, secondary students showed marked increase in science process skills. More systematic and long-term research for assessing science process skills should be planned and performed periodically to provide empirical and foundational data for educational policy making.
