Proper handling of nonresponse in sample survey improves the accuracy of the parameter estimation. Various studies have been conducted to properly handle MAR (missing at random) nonresponse or MCAR (missing completely at random) nonresponse. When nonresponse occurs, the PSA (propensity score adjusted) estimator is commonly used as a mean estimator. The PSA estimator is known to be unbiased when known sample weights and properly estimated response probabilities are used. However, for MNAR (missing not at random) nonresponse, which is affected by the value of the study variable, since it is very difficult to obtain accurate response probabilities, bias may occur in the PSA estimator. Chung and Shin (2017, 2022) proposed a post-stratification method to improve the accuracy of mean estimation when MNAR nonresponse occurs under a non-informative sample design. In this study, we propose a double post-stratification method to improve the accuracy of the naive PSA estimator for MNAR nonresponse under an informative sample design. In addition, we perform simulation studies to confirm the superiority of the proposed method.
Proteome research in the medical field is expected to accelerate the understanding of disease mechanism, and to create new diagnostic concept. For protein profiling, this paper proposes a new methodology named CPDIB (Crude Protein Direct Blotting). In the CPDIB procedure, crude protein sample is directly immobilized on a membrane and the expression of protein molecules in the sample are analyzed quantitatively by using a special device called ImmobiChip, where the membrane is used as a field of the immune reaction. The over-all structure of the ImmobiChip is based on the conventional Slot blot device. Mechanical improvement in the air-tightness of the case holding the membrane realizes the direct blotting and results in high performance of stability in the immune reaction. In the measurement of multiple proteins, a dispensing robot is used for increasing the efficiency of handling of liquid. Cooperation of the dispensing robot with the ImmobiChip for immobilizing proteins realizes automated and stable performance of the CPDIB procedure. This paper shows the evaluation of the air-tightness of the ImmobiChip, the ability of analyzing proteins using the CPDIB procedure and the performance of the automated equipment.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the possibility to characterize and classify waxes applied on some type of cheeses to obtain good stability during handling and transportation. Generally, waxes are obtained from the petrochemical industry, nowadays there is the possibility to also use biodegradable waxes produced from microorganisms. Preliminary studies were carried out to optimize sample presentation in NIR analysis, such as melting conditions (influence of temperature) and coat thickness of wax. 12 waxes (biodegradable or not) were analysed by using an InfraAlyzer 500 (Bran+Luebbe). The sample size was performed cutting pieces of 1.5 cm (height) x 1.5 cm (width) x 1.5 mm (thickness), previously melted at 9$0^{\circ}C$. NIR spectra were collected at room temperature, and data were processed by Sesame Software (Bran+Luebbe) to evaluate qualitative differences among samples by cluster analysis. Waxes were gathered on the basis of their origin (petrochemical or microbial). To better understand the significance of the NIRS bands discriminating among waxes, a two-dimensional correlation with FT-IR spectra, collected by a FT-IR/ATR 420 (JASCO) instrument, was made using 2DCORR program (Galactic Industries). On the basis of its classification power, NIRS appears to be a promising tool when used in routine analysis for a qualitative control of raw materials.
The nonresponse in sample survey causes a problem when it comes time to analyze dataset in public-use files where the user has only complete-data methods available and has limited information about the reasons for nonresponse. Recently imputation for nonresponse is becoming a standard approach for handling nonresponse and various imputation methods have been devised . However, most imputation methods concern with continuous traits while many interesting features are measured by binary or ordered categorical scales in sample survey. In this note. an imputation method for ignorable nonresponse in binary or ordered categorical traits is considered.

Focusing on the issue that the conventional Kernel Correlation Filter (KCF) algorithm has poor performance in handling scale change and obscured objects, this paper proposes an anti-occlusion and scale adaptive tracking algorithm in the basis of KCF. The average Peak-to Correlation Energy and the peak value of correlation filtering response are used as the confidence indexes to determine whether the target is obscured. In the case of non-occlusion, we modify the searching scheme of the KCF. Instead of searching for a target with a fixed sample size, we search for the target area with multiple scales and then resize it into the sample size to compare with the learnt model. The scale factor with the maximum filter response is the best target scaling and is updated as the optimal scale for the following tracking. Once occlusion is detected, the model updating and scale updating are stopped. Experiments have been conducted on the OTB benchmark video sequences for compassion with other state-of-the-art tracking methods. The results demonstrate the proposed method can effectively improve the tracking success rate and the accuracy in the cases of scale change and occlusion, and meanwhile ensure a real-time performance.

Contemporary biomedical data often involve an ill-posed problem owing to small sample size and large number of multi-collinear variables. Partial least squares (PLS) method could be a plausible alternative to an ill-conditioned ordinary least squares. However, in the case of a PLS model that includes a random-effect, how to deal with a random-effect or mixed effects remains a widely open question worth further investigation. In the present study, we propose a modified multivariate PLS method implementing mixed-effect model (PLSM). The advantage of PLSM is its versatility in handling serial longitudinal data or its ability for taking a randomeffect into account. We conduct simulations to investigate statistical properties of PLSM, and showcase its real clinical application to predict treatment outcome of esthetic surgical procedures of human faces. The proposed PLSM seemed to be particularly beneficial 1) when random-effect is conspicuous; 2) the number of predictors is relatively large compared to the sample size; 3) the multicollinearity is weak or moderate; and/or 4) the random error is considerable.
Objectives : In this study, the anti-stress effects of ethanolic extract of Opuntiaficus-indica (OF70E) were investigated. Methods : To determine the effects of OF70E on physical stress, changes in whole-body cortisol level or behavior were monitored in zebrafish. After treatment with 0.9% saline or OF70E for 6 min, all fish underwent net handling stress (NHS), which induced physical stress. And then, we conducted open field test (OFT) or sacrificed fish for collecting body fluid from whole-body. We used the cortisol enzyme-linked immunoassay kit to measure the amount of cortisol in each zebrafish sample. Results : In result, compared with normal group which were not treated by NHS, whole-body cortisol levels were significantly increased in stressed-control group. Compared with control group, pretreatment with OF70E at concentrations of 25, 50 and 100 mg/L for 6min significantly inhibited the increase of whole-body cortisol levels induced by NHS(p<0.05). To anti-stress effects of OF70E on behavior, we conducted OFT after the induction of NHS following pretreatment of OF70E. As results of OFT, compared with unstressed-normal group, distance moved was significantly decreased by induction of NHS in stressed-control group (p<0.05). OF70E-pretreatment blocked decreases of distance moved increased by NHS (p<0.05). And meandering movement, immobility and turn angle were significantly increased by NHS in stressed-control group compared with unstressed-normal group (p<0.05). OF70E-pretreatment prevented the increases of meandering movement immobility and turn angle by NHS (p<0.05). Conclusions : In conclusion these results suggest that OF70E-pretreatment may prevent stress responses.
A sensitive membrane strip assay for plasma lipoprotein cholesterol that can be performed without handling reagents has been investigated. We previously developed an assay system with immobilized enzymes (cholesterol esterase and cholesterol oxidase) on the surfaces of nitrocellulose membrane(1). In such a case, the amount of enzymes present on the membrane was limited by its surface area and, thus, the detection capability was relatively poor (> 50 mg/dL cholesterol). To overcome this problem, we devised a new system with non-immobilized enzymes by placing them within interstitial spaces of a celullose membrane pad in a dry state. Upon contact with sample medium, the enzymes were immediately dissolved and participated in the reactions with cholesterol in a liquid phase. We constructed a user-friendly system consisting of four membrane pads fro sample application, cholesterol decomposition, color development as signal, and medium absorption to invoke a continuous flow (sequential location from the bottom). A sample containing lipoproteins was added into the application pad by capillary action and transferred to the next pad for decomposition. The decomposition pad (namely, enzyme pad) contained a detergent (sodium cholate) for the destruction of lipoprotein particles, the two enzymes for cholesterol decomposition, and a chromogen (3,3'-diaminobenzidine). As a consequence of the enzyme reactions, hydrogen peroxide was produced, and then reacted in the presence of the chromogen with horseradish peroxidase immobilized on the signal generation pad. Finally, a colorimetric signal directly proportional to the cholesterol concentration was produced. The detection limit determined from this system under optimal conditions was at least 2 times lower than of the enzyme-immobilized system.

Micro-scale test methods are producing small-sample size where the conventional physical and chemical tests can not be used (high standard deviation, uncertain sampling conditions, low repeatability). Different small-scale test methods were developed recently for determination of physico-chemical, functional, rheological properties of wheat or wheat dough using miniaturized instruments with sophisticated sample preparation/handling and mechanics (RVA, 2 g mixograph, micro-Z-arm mixer, small-scale noodle maker, micro-baking method etc.). The small-scale methodologies can be used as basic research tools or as technology supported measurements and can be also essential in the early selection for quality traits in breeding programs. The milling as a sample preparation step is essential procedure providing good quality flour or semolina samples from small amount of grain (5-10 g) in a reproducible and reliable way. The aim of present study was to use NIR as quality control tool, and to evaluate the recently developed and manufactured micro-scale lab mill (FQC-2000) produced by Inter-Labor Co. Ltd., Hungary. The milling characteristics of the new instrument were compared to other laboratory mills and the effects of milling action on the chemical composition of fractions were analysed. The fractions were tested with both chemical and near infrared spectroscopic methods. The micro-scale milling resulted significantly different yields, particle size distributions and different fractions from compositional point of view. The near infrared spectra were sensitive enough to distinguish the fractions obtained by different milling procedures. Quantitative NIR calibration equations were developed and tested in order to measure the chemical composition of characteristic milling fractions. Special qualification procedure the PQS (Polar Qualification System) method was used for detecting the differences between fractions obtained by macro and micro-milling procedures. The results and the limitations of PQS method in this application will be discussed.
Objective: We aimed to evaluate the reporting quality of research articles that applied deep learning to medical imaging. Using the Checklist for Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging (CLAIM) guidelines and a journal with prominence in Asia as a sample, we intended to provide an insight into reporting quality in the Asian region and establish a journal-specific audit. Materials and Methods: A total of 38 articles published in the Korean Journal of Radiology between June 2018 and January 2023 were analyzed. The analysis included calculating the percentage of studies that adhered to each CLAIM item and identifying items that were met by ≤ 50% of the studies. The article review was initially conducted independently by two reviewers, and the consensus results were used for the final analysis. We also compared adherence rates to CLAIM before and after December 2020. Results: Of the 42 items in the CLAIM guidelines, 12 items (29%) were satisfied by ≤ 50% of the included articles. None of the studies reported handling missing data (item #13). Only one study respectively presented the use of de-identification methods (#12), intended sample size (#19), robustness or sensitivity analysis (#30), and full study protocol (#41). Of the studies, 35% reported the selection of data subsets (#10), 40% reported registration information (#40), and 50% measured inter and intrarater variability (#18). No significant changes were observed in the rates of adherence to these 12 items before and after December 2020. Conclusion: The reporting quality of artificial intelligence studies according to CLAIM guidelines, in our study sample, showed room for improvement. We recommend that the authors and reviewers have a solid understanding of the relevant reporting guidelines and ensure that the essential elements are adequately reported when writing and reviewing the manuscripts for publication.
