In the analysis of the effects of rock tunnel blasting vibration on adjacent existing buildings, the model of simplified equivalent load produces higher calculation result of vibration, due to the lack of consideration of the millisecond delay effect. This paper, based on the static force equivalence principle of blasting load, proposes a new determination method of equivalent load of blasting vibration. The proposed method, based on the elastic-static force equivalence principle of stress wave, equals the blasting loads of several single blastholes in the same section of millisecond blasting to the triangle blasting load curve of the exploded equivalent elastic boundary surface. According to the attenuation law of stress wave, the attenuated equivalent triangle blasting load curve of the equivalent elastic boundary is applied on the tunnel excavation contour surface, obtaining the final applied equivalent load. Taking the millisecond delay time of different sections into account, the time-history curve of equivalent load of the whole section applied on the tunnel excavation contour surface can be obtained. Based on Sailing Tunnel with small spacing on Sanmenxia-Xichuan Expressway, an analysis on the blasting vibration response of the later and early stages of the tunnel construction is carried out through numerical simulation using the proposed equivalent load model considering millisecond delay effect and the simplified equivalent triangle load curve model respectively. The analysis of the numerical results comparing with the field monitoring ones shows that the calculation results obtained from the proposed equivalent load model are closer to the measured ones and more feasible.

The interest in the use of shield TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) on the tunnel excavation has been increased rapidly in Korea. The shield TBM tunnel is generally designed as non-drainage tunnel. Consequently, if water leakage through the segment joints happens, big problems on the usage and stability of tunnel can be occurred. In this study, the variation of waterproof capacity of hydrophilic rubber waterstop by the construction error and excessive displacement of segment was studied. In particular, the waterproof capacity of each of single and double layer arrangements of hydrophilic rubber waterstop was examined to verify the efficiency of the double layer arrangement. The test results show that the single layer and double layer hydrophilic rubber waterstop showed the same waterproof performance. hydrophilic rubber waterstop has favorable on the offset, however unfavorable on the gap.

To investigate major influencing factors on earth pressure acting on an arch-shaped cut and cover tunnel, Monte Carlo simulation based quantitative sensitivity analysis was carried out for mechanical properties of ground as well as excavation configuration-related design factors. From the sensitivity analysis, it was intended that effects of earth pressures from different influencing factors on a cut and cover tunnel should be numerically identified. Output factors used in the sensitivity analysis such as vertical and horizontal earth pressures at different tunnel positions were obtained from the finite element analysis. In this study, it was revealed that depending upon positions where horizontal as well as vertical earth pressures were acting, they were differently influenced by the same input factors. In addition, earth pressures acting an cut and cover tunnel depended mainly on the embankment at crown and the inclination of cut slope.

Excessive inflow of groundwater during tunnel excavation not only affects the stability and constructability of the tunnel, but is also one of the main causes of ground settlement due to groundwater level drawdown. The most commonly applied measure against excessive groundwater inflow during tunnel excavation in soil or fractured zone is to reduce the ground permeability coefficient by injecting grout material. Generally, the grouting area is assumed to be same as the plastic zone that occurs during tunnel excavation, but injecting grout material in the area of plastic zone is appropriate only for reinforcement grouting. In order to determine the thickness of cutoff grouting, the amount of reduction in the water permeability coefficient due to the application of cutoff grouting must be considered. In this study, a method for estimating the range of cutoff grouting considering the reduction in permeability coefficient was mathematically derived and evaluated through computer numerical analysis.

The research deals with the measurement of electromagnetic wave propagation in subway tunnels at 2.65GHz. Measurements have been conducted in 4 different types of tunnel courses, a straight tunnel, two curved tunnels, with 245m and 500m radius of curvature, and a tunnel that has both straight and curved sections. we found that the path loss exponent for the line-of-sight(LOS) region inside all the tunnels is $1.31{\sim}2.19$. The path loss exponents for LOS regions in the tunnel is lower than $(3{\sim}4)$, which corresponds to the path loss exponent factor for outdoor cellular environments. The path loss exponents of the straight tunnel, two curved tunnels with 245m and 500m radius of curvature are 1.94, 2.92, and 4.34, respectively. This indicates that a smaller radius of curvature in tunnel results in a higher path loss exponent for nonline-of-sight(NLOS) region. The path loss exponents for the NLOS region in the combined and curved tunnel, which have the same radii of cuvature, are 5.88 and 4.34, respectively. Therefore, it can be concluded that the path loss characteristics in tunnel environments are infulenced by the radii of curvature as well as the LOS distance.
The purpose of this study is to develop a new technique to quickly assess the quantitative stability of a tunnel by using measured displacement at the tunnel construction site. To achieve this purpose, in this study, a critical strain concept was introduced for the first time and applied to an assessment of a tunnel under construction. The new technique calculates numerically the strains of the surrounding ground by using displacements measured during tunnel excavation. The techniques considering the relative displacement, shotcrete, and anisotropic characteristics of ground were newly introduced after reinvestigating the existing analysis technique. In addition, an analysis module was developed based on the proposed analysis technique in this study, and the applicability of the developed module was verified. To verify the module, first of all, the calculated excavation displacements of a cylindrical tunnel by analytic method and commercial programs (Pentagon-3D, Flac-2D) were compared for the confirmation of applicability of commercial programs. Then, the calculated excavation displacements under the same initial condition, both with and without a shotcrete lining, by two commercial programs were compared. finally, we assess the load condition and material properties of in-situ ground by inputting tunnel excavation displacement, which was calculated by a commercial program, into the developed analysis module (FAST-Ver. 1.2, feedback Analysis System for Tunneling), and checked whether the assessed results conform to the originally assumed values.
CFD is applied to evaluate pedestrian wind comfort at outdoor platforms in a high-rise apartment building. Model validation is focused on generic building sub-configurations that are obtained by decomposition of the actual complex building geometry. The comfort study is performed during the design stage, which allows structural design changes to be made for wind comfort improvement. Preliminary simulations are performed to determine the effect of different design modifications. A full wind comfort assessment study is conducted for the final design. Structural remedial measures for this building, aimed at reducing pressure short-circuiting, appear to be successful in bringing the discomfort probability estimates down to acceptable levels. Finally, the importance of one of the main sources of uncertainty in this type of wind comfort studies is illustrated. It is shown that the uncertainty about the terrain roughness classification can strongly influence the outcome of wind comfort studies and can lead to wrong decisions. This problem is present to the same extent in both wind tunnel and CFD wind comfort studies when applying the same particular procedure for terrain relation contributions as used in this paper.

The correlation and interaction mechanisms between marine debris and the vegetation zone were studied on the Jinu-do natural beach of the Nakdong river estuary. Laboratory wind tunnel experiments were carried out under the wind-field and bottom-sand conditions using wind tunnel test equipment to investigate the sedimentation characteristics of wind-drift sand deposition around marine debris and the vegetation zone. The major environmental factors/loads considered in this study were the motion of sand by wind on the beach, deposition of marine debris, and change in the vegetation zone/line. When the marine debris was installed in the wind tunnel, deposition at the front of the structure appeared first by wind action, and then deposition developed from behind at 70% of the front ground level. In contrast, in the case of vegetation, the deposition phenomenon appeared first from behind the vegetation zone/line, and was 60% higher than the front. When the height of the debris and vegetation was the same, the required experimental time to bury the vegetation completely was about twice that of the marine debris.

In this study, the 1/20 reduced-scale experiments using Froude scaling were conducted to investigate the ventilation velocity of the variation of burning rate in tunnel fires. The heptane square pool fire with heat release rate ranging from 3.71~15.6 kW were used. The burning rate of fuel was obtained by measuring mass using load cell and temperature distributions were measured by K-type theomocouples in order to investigate smoke movement. The ventilation velocity in the tested tunnel was controlled by inverter of the wind tunnel. In heptane pool fire case, the increase in ventilation velocity incresed the burning rate due to the direct supply of oxygen to the fire plume. For the same dimensionless velocity($\bar{V}$), burning rate increased as the size of pool fire decreased.
We have investigated the effect of Hf insertion in the Al oxide tunnel barrier on the properties of magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs). MTJs with Hf inserted barrier show the higher tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) ratio and less temperature and bias voltage dependence of TMR than MTJs with a conventional Al$_2$O$_3$ barrier. The enhancement of TMR ratio and the reduction of the temperature and bias voltage dependence might be due to the reduction of defects in the barrier. Al-Hf oxide was formed by depositing Al and Hf simultaneously, and oxidizing the compound films. The TMR ratio of 36% was almost the same value as that with Hf inserted barrier. This implies that the inserted Hf layers mixed with Al layers during deposition or oxidation, and they might form Al Hf oxide barriers. This compound Al Hf oxide formation may be responsible to reduction of defect concentration which enhanced the TMR ratio and reduced temperature and bias-voltage dependence.
