  • The study was performed to evaluate the effects of chloride concentrations on the ultimate aerobic biodegradability and to use the result as the fundamental data for sea food wastewater treatment. When the organic removal efficiency by chloride concentrations (1,400~18,000 mg/L) was evaluated, microbes adapted to the saline at ${\leq}$ 6,000 mg/L of chloride but treatment efficiency was not improved at ${\geq}$ 12,000 mg/L of chloride because of delayed reaction time. Functional coefficient $Y_I$ of non-biodegradable soluble organic and inert material production coefficient Yp by microbe metabolism increased as chloride concentrations increased. Soluble organic matter ratio by chloride concentration (0~18,000 mg/L) was 10.8~13.1%, inert material production efficiency by microbes metabolism was evaluated as 7.0~24.6%. $NH_3$-N removal efficiencies were 96.2, 96.5, 90.2 and 90.3% using original wastewater HRT 18 hr, 6,000 mg/L chloride concentration HRT 22 hr, 12,000 mg/L chloride concentration HRT 30 hr, and 18,000 mg/L chloride concentration HRT 45 hr, respectively. Nitrification process was more sensitive to salt concentration than organic matter removal to salt concentration. Under ${\geq}$ 6,000 mg/L chloride concentration, conversion rate from $NO_s$-N to $NO_2$-N was low.

  • The interactions of water soluble polymers with dye are studied by ultrafiltration using a molecular weight cut off of 10 KDa regenerated cellulose ultrafiltration membrane. Two water-soluble polymers, namely Poly (Sodium-4 Styrenesulfonate) (PSS) and Poly (Vinyl Alcohol) (PVA) were selected for this study. The effects of process parameters, such as, polyelectrolyte concentrations, transmembrane pressure, ionic strength and pH of solution on dye retention and permeation flux were examined. PSS enhanced ultrafiltration achieved dye retention as high as 99% as a result of complexation between polyanion containing aromatic groups and cationic dye. This result was confirmed by the red shift. The retention of dye decreases as the salt concentration increases, a high retention was obtained at pH above 4. However, in case of PVA, relatively low retention (50%) was observed. Ionic strength and pH has no significant effect on the removal of MB. The permeate flux depended slightly on polyelectrolytes concentrations, transmembrane pressure, salt concentration and pH.

  • In order to improve the removal ability of phosphate, Spheroplast fusions were performed among auxotrophic mutants of Aeromonas hydrophila isolated from waste water, named A13 and A14, Aci37 auxotrophic mutant of Acinetobactercalcoaceticus, and auxotrophic E. coli HR262/pCE27 carring pit gene. Eight fusants obtained from this experiment showed different biochemical characteristics. When the rate of phosphate uptake among fusants (F1-F8) was investigated in Phosphate Uptake Medium (PUM), F8 strain showed the highest rate for phosphate removal, 7 times as much as control after two hours incubation. The role of cations ($Mg^{++}$ ,$Ca^{++}$ , $K^{+}$ in phosphate uptade by F8 was also investigated in PUM without each salt. $K^{+}$ seemed to be crucial. Being compared with phosphate untake rate in PUM, that in PUM without $K^{+}$ was reduced 1.5 times. Therefore, by applying F8 strain and $K^{+}$ in practical environmental system, the increased efficiency in phosphate removal can be derived.

  • The removal rate of Cl from municipal solid waste incineration(MSWI) ash(bottom ash and fly ash) by washing was investigated. The Cl contents in the bottom ash and fly ash were 2.6-3.0% and 25-30% respectively, and KCl, NaCl, CaCIOH and friedel's salt were main components. From the results on the effects of washing time and temperature, the Cl contents in the bottom ash and fly ash were decreased up to 0.3% and 2.0% respectively by using of water as a solvent within 30 min at 2$0^{\circ}C$, 300 rpm of agitation speed and 10 of liquid/solid ratio. It is expected that the removal of Cl from the incineration ash by washing could make use of the ash for a cement raw material and so on.

  • In this paper we present a generalized directional morphological filtering algorithm for the removal of impulse noise, which is based on a combination of impulse noise detection and a weighted rank-order morphological filtering technique. For salt (or pepper) noise suppression, the generalized directional opening (or closing) filtering of the input signal is selectively used. The detection of impulse noise can be done by the geometrical difference of opening and closing filtering. Simulations show that this new filter has better detail feature preservation with effective noise reduction compared to other nonlinear filtering techniques.

  • Effect of organic acid on the preparation of indium-oxalate salt from indium scraps generated from ITO glass manufacturing process was studied. Effects of parameters, such as type and concentration of organic acids, pH of reactant, temperature, reaction time on indium-oxalate salt preparation were examined. The impurity removal efficiency was similar for both oxalic acid and citric acid, but citric acid did not make organic acid salt with indium. The optimum conditions were 1.5 M oxalic acid, pH 7, $80^{\circ}C$, and 6 hours. On the other hand, the recoveries increased with pH, but the purity decreased. The indium-oxalate salt purity prepared by two cycles was 99.995% (4N5). The indium-oxalate salt could be converted to indium oxide and indium metal by substitution reaction and calcination.

  • Recently, digital image processing is applied a lot to the broadcasting, communication, computer graphic, and medical sectors. It generates noise when data is transmitted. There are many kinds of noises that add to the image such as salt and pepper noise, AWGN, and complex noise. Thus, this study divides the corrupted image into four4 areas and estimates the types of noises each pixel, and this study suggested a switching filter that separates the estimated into salt and pepper noise and AWGN. In the case that center pixel of local mask is corrupted by salt and pepper noise, it used a histogram probability weighting of subdivided area. Also, in case that it is corrupted by AWGN, algorithm that is applied to with different weights given for the distribution of each area with using subdivided area's distribution was suggested. For an objective comparison and conclusion, this study used PSNR and compared to existing methods.

  • Due to the recent progress in information technology, demand for video imaging devices such as displays has grown. In general, images experience deterioration during the process of transmission due to various reasons. Many studies have boon undertaken on ways o reduce such noise. This paper6 suggests an algorithm that makes a judgment on the noise in order to remove the salt & pepper noise and replaces original pixels if they are non-noise while processing noise according to its density. The suggested algorithm shows a high PSNR of 30.49[dB] for Goldhill images that had been damaged of a high density salt & pepper noise(P = 60%), Compared to the exising CWMF, SWMF, and A-TMF, there were improvements by 17.74[dB], 11.52[dB], and 13.76[dB], respectively.

  • With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, many new technologies are being utilized. In particular, video signals are used in various fields. However, when transmitting and receiving video signals, salt and pepper noise and additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) occur for multiple reasons. Failure to remove such noise when performing image processing can cause problems. Generally, filters such as CWMF, MF, and AMF remove noise. However, these filters perform somewhat poorly in the high-density noise domain and cause smoothing, resulting in slightly lower retention of the edge components. In this paper, we propose an algorithm by effectively eliminating salt and pepper noise using a modified weight filter using standard deviation. In order to prove the noise reduction performance of the proposed algorithm, we compared it with the existing algorithm using PSNR and magnified images.
